it wouldn't need 8 slots because the 7950 has two cards in a one slot design, sou you only need 4 slots
He's talking about case-worthy Octal SLI....ATX form-factor cases only have 7 PCI 'holes'/slots. Each 7950 takes two of those slots/holes, and you'd need four, so that makes 8, one more than 7 ;)
