Interested in 1Gb (2x512Mb) and 2Gb Kits (2x1Gb) and maybe somebody knows some cheap value RAM too so i can just try and make sure it's mem. incompatibility issue or not ?
Thank you :)

The board needs Vcore and Vdimm mods to up Vs from 1.5/2.15Vs.
For cold boot Tcoremod will help....http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...t=95411&page=2

Tried this 9541XX recommended for 975...
So it seems to me that all these mobile chips, whether Yonah or Merom, have an FSB wall that no cooling will get past (unless you hit the lotto like Tyrou). So is it the chips or the board (e.g., chipset)? And why would one want to drop $300 on this board under these circumstances?
Is there some reasonable expectation (i.e., evidence) that this FSB issue will go away with some future CPU stepping or bios revision?
I love the idea of these low-wattage (lower than Conroe) chips under extreme cooling, but I also love the idea of cold fusion.
Extreme cooling and voltage mods will help with the FSB. But those things are not going to turn a so-so CPU into a great one. There are various theories about the FSB. Some say it's the board, while others think it's the CPU. I think most people who've actually used Yonah have concluded the CPU is more likely the culprit. At least that's my conclusion. I have two different Yonah chips. Same board, same BIOS, same RAM, same settings. One CPU overclocks much better than the other.
So those getting 225 FSB on air are getting considerably higher higher on phase?

From my point of view, the way to work out the FSB issue is by getting a better chip which is what a number of people have done.Quote:

As long as you have a good CPU, the board is pretty easy to work with. However, some people are having trouble getting Crossfire to work properly.
Having had 4 2500's it think it's a cpu issue not mb. This board is like most(not all) in that there is just not enough Vcore and Vdimm. :)Quote:

The T-mod will allow you to enter the BIOS when the CPU is frozen. Your only other alternative is to power on before the temperature gets too cold and enter the BIOS then.
what tool do y'all use for BIOS flashing? (floppy)
I just flash in Windows using the EzWinFlash utility. Simple and fast.

Thanks. Ugh, reminds me of the horrors of phasing Dothan. Hard to do that without chipping the core.
The more I learn about this business, the more I want to just get a rev 304 D975XBX and wait for Conroe.
But if you could get this to config work... :slobber:

Yes! Exactly the news I was dreaming of hearing!
Edit: Not the no windows part. :(
dont forget that ive got a GIMPED (CPU or mobo) that i couldnt run with >1.28V last week on air.... im just trying this under phase for "fun" ;)
its booting/installing @ 1.2V (BIOS) :rocker:
looks like the cold just made MY volt-bug worse
:( Sorry to hear that bud, hopefully on the flipside the cold will help the clocks more than enough to compensate.
Kyosen T-core mod will help you run w/out problem, no matter how cold is the evap. The only thing to be carefull is Core temp in bios will depend on the resistance you set the pot. Mine set @ 17Kohm before soldered to mobo shows 11/12C core temp. in bios regardless of evap. temp. and the mobo's ability to shut off power when core temp. hits the limit will be gone:) :(
The 4 holes on the mounting are the same as S478..
Same problems I had under phase change, :slapass:  .Quote:

and has nothing to do with the phase cooling, it acted similar on air last week

Was having a problem with my PC restarting after a couple of minutes of heavy load at ~3.4Ghz and over. Anyway, to cut a long story short, fitting a heatsink and pointing a fan at this:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../pllmosfet.jpg
seems to have fixed it. I guess its for the PLL?, and may just be running hot because my 3.3v rail is at 3.55v (never got round to 'un-modding' it). Either way I'm now rock solid at 3.45Ghz so if anyone else has a similar problem give it a try :)
Interesting. Why are you considering unmodding your PSU? I was just getting around to doing a vsense to boost the +3.3v rail. Did the vcca not help?
I only really did the 3.3v rail mod for running my BH-6 and UTT in my old motherboard. It's not really necessary here, and while a little extra wouldn't hurt I think 3.55 may be a bit high. I think maybe I'll try putting it down a bit to ~3.4 and see if it makes any difference for stability. The VCCA mod didn't help me much unfortunately, just a few extra Mhz at 2.3v. At the moment though i'm just trying to get fully stable at the FSB I already have. The reason I thought maybe the 3.3v PSU mod wasn't helping is because quite a few guys here have run much higher clockspeeds than me but have not reported having stability issues like mine, and also that my fets are getting hot.
EDIT: Okay, dropped the 3.3v rail from 3.55v to 3.46v and it HAS helped. I can now select max northbridge voltage in bios without getting stability problems and with that am now more stable at higher clocks :D
WATCH out guys!!!
getting a good seal seems to be a problem.... i just pulled the chilly1 and look @ what i found: (WATER!!!)
ive had NO PROBLEMS mounting this thing to 3 different mobos for a total of about 15 mounts....(no n00b)
http://img471.imageshack.us/img471/5...02652hn.th.jpg
Are you mounting the evaporator head directly onto the core? If so, that's a bad idea. You may end up chipping the core. You need to get an IHS.
i popped the top on my FX-57 just so that i COULD mount direct to core....thats not the point... the WATER (condensation) IS....
The core on mobile chips is usually much smaller, so you're comparing apples with oranges.
Regarding condensation, yes, that does appear to be an issue. I usually let my board dry out for 24 hours before using it again.
ok.... i popped the top on my Venice just so that i could mount direct to the core (similar size to this Yonah)...and have been "bare-die mounting" since the AMD 1700+ days...this is NOT the point!
im NOT disputing the *serious hazard* when mounting to a bare die... im simply pointing out that the insulation on my chilly1 unit, that worked great on 3x different mobos, DIDNT work on this one...
Well, I don't know what to tell you. A number of people are using sub-zero cooling on Yonah. Obviously condensation can be a problem. I will be trying dry ice in the near future, so I'll let you know what happens.
These are my results so far with an unmodded board and the IHS that I got from Tyrou. Works for me.

No problem. :) I hope your CPU is okay.
I have Chilly1 and had no problems with condensation except frost appearing at yellow jumpers near cpu area. Then I sealed it too and no probs after that. It was mounted on naked core and I have to say Yonah core seems to be much better than Dothan core. And I always use pads but no IHS at this time. I used custom screws though for better convenience.
OMG you must use pads!!! Hope your cpu is fine
use pads or ihs.. had no problem mounting my ln2 tube 10 times.
good to hear others not having (all) my problems....
what to use as a "pad" ? "thin" neoprene?
(not that it really matters @ this point...but for future (Merom) chip ;) :hitself: )

BIOS 1.3C update... the CPU temp reads 1 ONLY when -0
i have a "normal" reading now that im (back) on air
EDIT:
back to my "On Air" volt-bug (> 1.3V = BSOD) which is even more confusing if one assumed the bug was due to the chipped die .....
o yonah, dear sweet yonah, please put me out of my misery. im tired, so tired....
.
Was the same bug before?
Anyway, I am using either k-flex (armaflex) or similar pads. Neoprene also works :)
yep, exact same "V-wall"
looks like it survived... Dual 32M @ all default:

I had no problems with insulation, take your time to take a look at all the sides ;).
Only problem is a "no boot issue" when going subzero :/ .

Hello all.
Does the Yonah Chip have slightly chamfered corners on 2 sides? I am asking as I bought a ES chip and it does not seem to boot. I cannot make out if it has been damaged or it is made this way.
Anyone in London UK that can help me test will be great! I do not have any spare Yonah CPU/board or ddr2 memory to swap around.
Thanks in advance.
No, yonah should have all sides equal. Can you post high quality pictures of core?
Is it possible to have a wall as low as 216 or 217 MHz FSB? It seems to be my case :( I'm using a T2300 ES stepping 8 revision C0, maybe it's not enought...

Thomas
I'm in UK but not in London (am in Shropshire)... doesn't sound right though, chamfered corners. Pics would help. I'll gladly test it for you though if you wanna post it, can provide references etc. By all means PM me about it.Quote:

Hmm, I did vcca mod but I can only decrease voltage from 1.5V to lower lol
What did I do wrong?
Mod is here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&postcount=54
Without VR I am getting 20ohms, but with a 100ohm VR I can only decrease resistance to around 16ohms or less thus voltage only lower.
Use the remote control or clockgen when in windows. I take it you didn't read the Aopen + Yonah guide. Using the remote control or clockgen will allow almost 20mhz more on the FSB.Quote:

Hi,
Sorry I haven't read the thread, but are you guys using any protection when you mount heavy heatsinks on your Yonah/Merom chips? Sort of like a shim or anything? If not, how do you prevent core-crushing accidents?!
I wanna use a Zalman 7000 with a Merom on an MSI Speedster board. I have some little foam pads (like there used to be on the corners of Athlon XP's) so I was just gonna place these around the core. Will that be ok?
Thanks,
Suman
Pull out some scotch tape. ;)

Though the foam pads should work fine too for a Zalman.
