I found out my power company is planning a rate increase Oct. 1st and a second Jan. 1st. :shocked: I have no idea what that will do to my folding. 2 months ago I ran 6 quads and an X2-4800 full bore for a month and the bill was $500. :shocked: Cutting back to 3 rigs after 2 weeks lowered it to $300. Much more reasonable. :) I like running with the "big dogs" over here. :D I'll be contributing after the 2 week race ends too. :up:

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be folding with the system in my signature - still not overclocked until the next paycheck comes in for me to buy some WC equipment.

My mom passed away of lung cancer last December 23rd. I'm no doctor, but if I can help by doing this... well, that's what I'll do.

I'm sorry to hear. Many of us have been personally affected by cancer, myself included.

Pande is doing interesting stuff with this research. I was hoping to see more p53 studies, but maybe that'll be in the future. MDM2 as well and, I hope, more studies that involved the DNA repair pathway.

Its a small part of the puzzle, but the research in very valuable and might help open up new opportunities for distributive computing clients.

Sorry to hear about your mother Rise, mine died of liver cancer and in this team you'll find allot of people who lost loved one's and want to get even. Crunching is a nice way to do it isn't it :up:

Question: running the client under Vista x64. Is 18-25% use of one core normal? I see peeps running the same with as low as 7-9%. Don't want to pull too much from WCG if possible but will run F@H regardless. Tips or tricks?

Nice clocks on that card :up: I have 3 8800gt's and can't get over 1800 shaders on any of them.

What cpu are you using? 18-25% is about what a dual core uses, 7-10% on a quad. But it changes all the time, that should be peak usage. Most of the time it's below 5%. That's when nothing else is using the cpu. Kind of hard for me to tell though because I have WCG running along with F@H.

Three cards sitting at 14% to 22%, but peaks around 44% once in a while on a 3.2 ghz amd x2. :up:

Yeah, tbh I haven't really pushed the card yet to see exactly what it will do. F@H seems more forgiving than most 3D apps so I might gain a bit more there and use a RivaTuner launch item for crunching if it can handle higher clocks. I can run 3DMark05 through Vantage @764/1890/1167 at least. Where do I check to see if my F@H results are valid (stable clocks)?

And I'm running on the rig in my sig so the ~20% average seems about right. I didn't realize the lower CPU utilization was occurring on quads, thanks for pointing that out.

hey, i just started folding tonight. Using my new AMD 5400+ BE CPU for good and evil (folding and COD4 hehe). My mother is an Oncology Nurse Practitioner and I have a large family history of cancer. What an amazing thing folding really is.

Is that username only "game"related? Back in the day I did quite a bit of highpower and long range rifle competitions. Shooting X's at 1000 yards with iron sights is almost but not quite the thrill racing is. :up:

I've also started also as of yesterday I ran 4 WU's on my GTX260.

I've just finished fine tuning and getting this system right, and added my Q9650 at 4.0 ghz. I'm going to go up to 4.2 Ghz sometime this week, as it's stable there also. Not sure how much farther I can go. but I'll most likely be folding at 4.0 ghz and with my 260. I'll start the CPU folding on top of GPU2 as soon as my 2 new yate loons get here tomorrow in Da mail.

I'm ranked 125 already.. lol. 3 from last. but that was only after 4 hours of a single day.

Thanks for all the info to everyone that helped me get started!

You should know one thing though, the people you're passing left right and center, those with so 'few' points maybe in your eyes with now stagnant profiles, well they might have folded harder then you can imagine. The points you can make in one day, is something people folded weeks for in the past, no joke. Not saying that is bad, just wanted to tell you to respect evereyone you're passing, as they rightously deserve such.

but I do see your point. Not everyone is as fortunate as me to have a system that pushes this. Others may have folded 24/7 for a good while to get where I did in a day. I saw one guy only a few above me. with only a little more points, but he'd done over 400 WU's.. and I've done 4.. So I completely see your point on that.

and I don't think I'll be passing you anytime soon.. or will I?? ;)

We love to see you enthusiasm my friend, but if you leave it 24/7 you should get in front of us in no time I'm folding just 12 +/- / 5 , on weekends it doesn't fold it's the only time I play on the PC and when I sleep PC needs to sleep to :hehe: So basically you can make to the top fast , well you probably won't crunch over Angra and others but you can still be at the tip of the iceberg :hehe:

Just gonna let you guys know that you have my support. Im gonna set up my old socket A 1.5Ghz Athlon to fold almost 24/7 (gonna do some light gaming on it in college) :P Anyway My contribution will most likely be insignificant I have folded for about 24hrs total and have 350/1500 :ROTF:

Hey Guys and Gals,

I was wondering, how is it that some folders have only completed 150 or so WU's, but have more points than someone like me who has over 300 WU's? Am I missing something?

I have a PS3, 2 GTX260's, and a Core i7 all folding away. SMP is enabled on my i7... so what gives?

Maybe those 150 are all SMP WUs which are way higher in points per WU than GPU WUs. Your 300 WUs are mixed with GPU WUs, propably mostly GPU/PS3.

Back in the day i had a bunch of Uniprocessor Work Units, then i got my PS3. Now i reached the 1.5 million mark with this team in no time thanks to the GPU2 client and i'm sure i don't have as many WUs done as my last profile.

I signed up although Im not going to have this laptop for long and am going to have an actual rig. My parents said i had to give them my laptop to build a desktop so how long do you think that took me to answer. I will also have in my possession my old Pentium III and matrox 500 box back soon and will make that a 24/7 folding box that i can add a third 120mb SD memory stick to. i should probably also do a fresh install of XP. But i know my dad wont let me do that. I am folding as =SOC=_Phenom_II. Do you think that the Pentium III will do fine.

i just joined with my sig system but i have been running the gpu client cuz i have found it performs much better.... how do you run two seperate instances of the gpu client on each seperate card??? i know that you have to first take SLI off but the guide on the F@H website didnt work for me...

Look like your flags are wrong. Are you trying to run 2 clients on 2 card? If so you need to have -gpu 0 and -gpu 1 for your flags.

so i went into the properties for the links i used...

GPU 1

in the "start in" the address is

C:\Users\Karan\AppData\Roaming\Folding@Home-gpu
and
C:\Users\Karan\AppData\Roaming\Folding@Home-gpu2

it seems to me that that is the problem but when i try to change it to gpu0 and gpu1 or even gpu1 and gpu2 it gives me an error saying that no such file is present

::EDIT:: Maybe this is the problem... when i made shortcuts to the desktop, they were that of the F@H gpu .exe file not the F@H x86 .exe file?????

::::EDIT:::: Seems to have fixed it but now complaining that 2nd gpu's drivers are out of date......as far as i know drivers are all up to date

EDIT: Didnt see that you may have fixed it. not sure why is says driver out of date. Just reinstall driver and try again.

This is exactly how mine looks... I think I may see an issue: on your target it should have a space between gpu and #

Also, can you fold on either card right now the way you have it? Also dont forget when you initially start it; you have to config and make sure user id is different.

I am using version 6.23 too. the system tray version as well. I followed the guide on F @ H exactly, no issues. there has got to be some minor mistake you/ we are overlooking.

I personally always install into a seperate directory such as C:\FAH_GPU1 as Vista security can cause problems if you use Program Files and User files locations.

Also when you run for the first time with -configonly flag make sure that you add additional parameters -gpu 0 -local (that will ensure that all files are in one directory). Also, that way you don't need to edit command line in desktop shortcut to exe.

Ok so I ran into a weird problem with Win7. I had been folding on the Win7 Build 7000 and upgraded to build 7100. I did a clean install so I had to reinstall my folding software and I configed it to my username and team number 36362 but for some reason keeps turning WUs into Default. Anyone know why this may be happening. I mean I dont care about the points as long as I am folding and completing the tasks but I would like to help out XS as much as I can even though it isn't much right now.

well all of a sudden now both are showing the same driver issues I'll reinstall when iget home today... See if that fixes it...

I had this problem on vista on a machine a while back, but cant recall how I fixed it. I think I had left over files from another install and ati card. I think I totally wiped FAH off the machine and did a fresh install; re-setup and was fine.

I think it has something to do with the shortcut not being proper so to speak.

well that is the weird part I did a full clean install so nothing was left behind. it seems to be working now though

Just stopping by to say hello and that I'm throwing my gpus in the ring.
I have ran WCG for over a year now and am getting tired of it(No GPU client, when the gpus are far more powerful than a CPU.),but I'll leave some power there .But I have 2 4890s and a Phenom2 940 @3.6 that will be running F@H.
I know neither are stellar performers versus I7 and Nvidia but you use what ya got lol.

Made quite a difference.

Ordered 2 vf1000 zalman coolers,2 sets of copper ram sinks and mosfet coolers for the voltage regs on these cards .
one ran fine all day yesterday@925/1100 .Made my dummy plug got #2 going and error CITY on both,damn things wouldn't add 2+2 correctly.:explode::dammit:
Finally had to back the card mem down to 900 to get it stable.
Hence the ram sinks on order.

So right now I have 2 cpu clients going and 2 vga going. :yepp:

Why not run the SMP client?
Is a lot less hassle and is more stable than running multiple singles.

i've got F@H GPU client running on my 9600GT while WCG on my cpu... both run whenever im not using the computer... but i still have to play my games :)

should have a S939 A64 system running F@H soon as well.
