Not sure. It depends on luck. I have a very bad winnie. And I still reached 2300 @ 1.550v (keep in mind that A8V undervlots and the voltages have a tendancy to "jump" around as well ... I usually have ~1.520v, but on ocasions it drops to 1.502v or jumps to 1.550v). As a general rule I try to keep my CPU temperature (in full-load ... I get that by running 4 x BURNK7 at the same time) under 50C. And keep the HTT under 1000 MHz. If you go beyond 260 MHz it would be wise to chose 600MHz for the HT multiplier.
You will most likely have to set higher timings for your RAM in order to go 1:1.

Have my memory set to 2:1 DDR 400. Any ideas guys/gals
What can I do now to go higher :stick:
You might have a very bad Winnie as I do. Disabling AGP Fast Writes doesn't seem to do anything for my OC. With or without it the results are about the same for me.
Your PDP is TCCD baset, so you should try setting the voltage to only 2.7v and maybe try a higher TRAS (8 instead of 7). Also I have red about people who had problems with this memory on the A8V. Maybe try HTT600 as well.
And I don't really know how you got to 2.3 GHz (what multi were you using ? 9.0 ?).

You could try to go with 9.0 multiplier. And to eliminate the memory issue set the 3:2 divider. That way you'll get 200 MHz for the memory only when you'll reach 2400 MHz with the CPU. See if this way you can push the CPU further. If not ... than you probably hit the limit of the CPU.
I made it to 2.37 GHZ with these settings. This memory must have a grace period before the loosen up or something. I say this because I tried the same settings when I first bought them and couldnt go over 2.3.
10 X 237
DDR 400 setting (2:1 in A8V bios)
800HTT
2.7Volts
AGP fast writes on
1.525 VCORE
Passed 24hour Prime95 stress test.
Everest Read 6900 Write 2800 Latency just below 40NS.
I dont think I can get it any higher. Using a lower multiplier I dont think i would be able to push it past 2.4 because this memory is only rated to do 533mhz(PC4200) so......................... 266 X 9 = 2394
Ratings are done to be broken :D ... afterall the OCZ Platinum Rev.2 with TCCD chips is rated at only PC3200 ... and there are people who run it at ~280-290 :D .. so you'll never know unless you try. If it will be able to work 1:1 with a high FSB than you'll gain more performance from the same CPU frequency.
I tried that, and meh memory wont go over 268. Oh well. I do think my processor is topped off thought. As fast as the price has dropped on these bad boys, Ill pop in a 3800+ in a few months and see how high i can go. WOooooT. Im sure my memory will enable meh to reach for the stars. On my old 2.8 prescott system, my max stable OC with some HyperX was 3.4ghz. With this PDP Patriot memory I was able to puch it to 3.6ghz on AIR(thermalright HS and Large fan) WOW! I cant say enought about this memory. It rocks, and so do these processors.Quote:

I have a problem - when I run games, mouse keybord/music playback slows down to unbearable levels(on old drivers), or just produces tons artifacts(on newest, hacked ones) or tons of BSODs. Prime95 and memtest are totally stable, I excluded faulty drivers (been reformating with different combinations for over a week). I also tried three different graphic cards, all have similiar problems, but only on my board (same drivers works perfectly on other computers). that would rule off faulty graphic card, Tested both 1009 Final and 1010.03 beta bioses aswell. Mobo doesn't have any physical damages.
Any suggestions to fix the problem?
Except trashing that f%&%&## piece of junk of course.....

It is possible. A8V tops out at ~280-290 MHz. I am waiting for the DIF nf3 for s939 to appear and depending on the results I might change the A8V :).Quote:

I cannot seem to get stable on this board when I set the memory to run any higher than 220/225 ? ? I have OCZ Platinum 3200 Rev.2 that have done 275 in a Neo2.
WHenever I set the tiimings to 2.5-3-3-10 (2.7v) at anything above 220ish I get BSOD or errors in Test #6 on Memtest (OCZ Support Forum tells me thats Mobo related).
I am using a SATA drive (Raptor) plugged into the "SATA_RAID 1" slot and have the BIOS set to Promise IDE MODE. Have I got the HD in the right slot or should it be in another one?
Whenever I get the BSOD, when I reboot, Windows tells me about my serious error and then conforms that it was a "Device Driver Error"?
Is this just the worst overclocking motherboard or does it just not like my RAM? Either way its annoying and means I cannot wait for the DFI Nforce3 AGP 939 board to arrive.. if its half as overclockable as the Nforce4 illbe happ :)
It sounds as though I dont have working locks or summat?
A8V have some memory compatible
New BIOS available : ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIO...e/1011__02.zip
Will give it a try right now :)
EDIT : The first beta bios that I am not going to use :). It doesn't boot in dual channel mode :stick: . No problems encoutnered in single channel mode.
Already try 1011_3 mem cant 200mhz
1011.004 seems to have problems with Winnies as well. I can't set the memory to work at 400 MHz from the BIOS.
new bios 1011.005
this one seems to set the Timing at 2T, regardless of what you set in the BIOS. If you set the Timing at 1T from A64Tweaker it will work fine.
But then you would have to do it every single time............ right? I hit 2.38 with my 3200+ FYI. Heres my findings..................Quote:

that newest bios does definitely help with memory problems, if certain memory doesn't work with the board, this bios may help U :)
it helped me too, but it did still something wrong because i did have to reinstall windows after i put the same settings which was with the 1010.003 bios.
and well.. its going to the right way i think :)
ps. sorry for bad english :/
Not necessarly. You can set A64tweaker to make the settings each time you start windows. And anyway I never stop my PC ;)
I just bought one of these suckers real cheap to try out. Will it run something like 275x10 with TCCD and a good Winnie which does it on other boards? I am under impression 1008 bios is the best?
From what I know A8Vs and TCCDs aren't always the best friends. Theoretically this boards can go up to ~290 MHz, but not 1:1.
Too bad. No TCCD-optimized bios?
New BIOS out : 1011.007
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIO...e/1011__07.zip
Still seems to have a problem : if you disable 2t Command Rate from the BIOS (at least on Winnies) you are still stuck with it :D ... so 2T is there to stay unless you use A64 Tweaker :)
New bios 1011 final release!
I am wondering if some of you are getting some weird freeze in win xp pack 2.
I am using the via sata controller not in raid. I have 2 drives.
Once in a while, about every 2 weeks or so, the system gets me a message like "Writing to drive r: failed" which is part of the second drive, then nothing else works, when i close the system, it takes forever and gives me many many messages stating again that writing to drives has failed.
After shutting down all power to reset the computor, when i boot the system, it does not see the 2 sata drives anymore or sees the second one as a corrupted name. After many many resets, it finally does, but then it gives me the message "overclocking error" even though i am not overclocking and the system takes many tries to finally enter windows as it stalls on that message. When it finally enters windows, my wireless mouse does not work anymore and the only way to make it work again is to install a wired mouse and reboot (the resets buttons on the mouse does not do anything). After that, if i change back to the wireless mouse, it works again and finally all is fine. This sometimes takes an hour to get the whole thing working again.
After the system is finally working, it will then work for a couple of weeks without a single hickup, until i get the same problem.
What do you think, does this problem comes from the via sata controller beeing unstable or intermittent?
Should i try to switch to the promise controller?
I generally do not overclock.
Try update bios
thanks for the answer, but i tried 1008.final. 1009.final, 1010.002, 1010.003,1011.005,1011.007 and 1011.final.
There is no change to speak of.
It happened again last night, after an hour of unsuccessfull reboots, i resetted the bios with the clear cmos jumper on the mobo, the next boot was immediately ok. At least i now know how to fix it fast, it is just a pain in you know where.
In the manual, it says that closing the machine completely resets the BIOS, and that there is no need to reset with that jumper, it is a bit false apparently.
I have a weird problem with my a8v-deluxe. I am using the 1011 final bios, although I have tried others. Whenever I kick my fsb over 262 my hard drive performance on my raid 0 array (promise controller) drops dramaticly. I can run my fsb al the way to 300 with no stability issues, prime stable etc, but the drive perfomance always drops. I run my memory sync with my fsb. I tried different memory timings, a looser memory divider, lowered the htt multi, but nothing makes a difference. I was thinking of switching my array over to the via controll er to see if it makes any difference.
Basicly i am wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I really would like to run a faster fsb (htt). Is this just an issue of the lock not working correctly, I do have a revision 2 board.
i think that this board is a :banana::banana::banana:, with a memory over 512 megs. It works only on stock clocks. Cant overclock none, it just crashes or jamms in 3D, prime will work for hours.
i thought that it could be the processors memory controller too. not sure though. Memtest86 will too run for hours with the same overclocking than with the 2x256MB memory.
any ideas?
2x512MB HyperX wont work at all. :( kinda crappy to play with 512MB(2x256MB Twinmos, 2.5GHz etc.)
now i'm running with stock clocks and 1.5GB memory...
oh and the bios is 1010.003 Beta.
ps. sorry for bad english
Change your memories :)
Only thought I*ve..

According to many reviewers this board normally tops between 250 to 260 fsb, it rarely works higher than that. Mine tops at 252, take whatever it gives you. 262 seems very good. What memory are you using? Is it working at 1:1?Quote:

I am using mushkin level 2 pc4400 2x512mb in dual channel. Yes I am running 1:1. It stinks because the board will do 300 1:1, but whats the use if it loses performance. Thanks for the replyQuote:

I switched from to the promise raid controller, to the via raid controller. My hard drive benches went up a little, and so did my fsb wall. Now its @ 267. I dont seem to see any difference in bios revisions pertaining to this situation either.

I'd like to know more about your system or special settings/tweaks you may have done to get to 267? I've been kind of stuck at 260 with loose mem timings so I think it's the cpu or the motherboard. I'm thinking it's the motherboard becasue I can prime for couple of hours and more at 280 if I boot from something called the Ultimate Boot CD and run prime from there rather then windows. Just looking for suggestions.Quote:

(By the way, when i checked Cpu-z, it said my motherboard was rev. 1.xx , but on the board is printet 2.0. Is cpu-z wrong or is it the board?)

The best way to update the bios is within windows with the software from the cd of the asus a8v, i think it is called update or something.
You have to unzip it first and put the file in the same folder as that software.
Use asusupdate , unzip/unrar the file if u cannot located choose all files , cpu-z is wrong
Before trying fsb270, do not forget to put the graphic bus at 66 or you may destroy the card. This is a must. It is changed in the bios.Quote:

Have any ideas why this board hit's the wall at 260-265? I've searched all over the internet for some ideas. I'd like to try something but not sure exactly where the problem is with this board. Like I've said earlier, if I boot from a utility cdrom with prime, I can run at 280 with no problems. However, with Windows I'm limited by the 260 wall.Quote:

If you have an winchester you must use BIOSes newer than 1007. Have you locked the PCI/AGP frequency (to 33/66). The locks are not enabled automatically so you have to manually enable them from the BIOS.
What cpu have you got?Quote:

If your memory can work at 240 1:1 set to looser timings in the bios ex: 3,3,3,10, and set the memory at limit in the bios, if not leave everything at auto.
Put the cpu voltage at 2.50 volts to start and the fsb at 200.
Then, enter windows, with clock generator, slowly bring the fsb up, you will automatically see if the locks are working in clock gen.
You can test every setup with superpi to finally find the highest working fsb of your system.
i have got a a64 3500+ 0.13 non caa2c
the agp is set to 66.
now i have the 1005.021 and it seems to be ok. a can hit ~280.
may be i will buy the ocz booster to my bh5
The OCZ Booster is a gamble on this board. On my board it won;t work at more than 2.7v, making it quite useless. On some boards it got to 3.0v, but that's not quite enough for BH5 as well.Quote:

any1 tested A8V1011 bios??
Damn i had this board working like a charm 300x9 with the default bios (1008.something) i flashed to 1011 to try it out and this all messed up...
Now i already tried 1008 1009 1012 and all of then detect the fans running half the speed they should be... Weird stuff... Also with the original bios i could run my mem 2-2-2-5 1T @ 2.7 now even with 2.8 i can't run 2-2-2-5 1T ! (My ram is CH-5 most likely...)
People say that the 1010.003 is the best bios for this... but i don't even find it on the net... Can anyone with it post a link ?
God_lx, are you doing anything special (besides using 1008 bios) that enabled you to hit the 300x9 rate? Any key setting or mod you may have done?
Thanks

I have bought a second a8v just for testing. With this new board, there seems not to have any wall. I can easely set this board at 300*8 and even 310*8 using clockgen. I am only limited by my cpu maximum clock which is 2520 at 1.45 volts. I am now using 250*10 with my memory at 1:1 2.5-3-3-7 1T with absolutely no problems. This new board came with the 1010.003 BIOS. I am certainly not going to try another one.Quote:

What BIOS version are you using ? For BIOSes newer than 1010.003 I have to set 1T Command Rate from A64 Tweaker. Disabling 2T Command in BIOS does absolutely nothing. I tried it with some Winbond UTT, Samsung TCC, Transcend Jetram and some Hynix D43. With all of them the same result : the BIOS refuses to enable 1T Command Rate.Quote:

is this thread still alive?
just bought an a8v deluxe rev 2.xx some time now..
paired with a 3000+ winnie..
512mb value ram
and 9550xt..
help me on these..
So what do you need hel for ? You didn't mention any problems in your post :)
owww..sorry..
max FSB for this thing?
and wen wil u know dat lack of voltage(or too much of it) is causing stability problems?
in my BIOS(1011.xx.xxx.xx), since my 512mb geil VR sucks, went for dividers..
went for 4:3, that is, fsb = 266 and dat shud have ram frequency of approximately 200mhz.. but what i get as i view cpuz is fsb = 266 and ram frequency = 177.333..
and dat goes for 3:2 ratio too --> displays 5:4
how am i going to fix this? new BIOS version?
thanks

I never used dividers for my OCs from BIOS 1010.003 :) ... so i'm not sure if they fixed them. The best results on this MB were obtained with OCZ Platinum Rev.2 (the TCCD ones, not the newer TCC5 ones). With my Geil UTT I have managed to reach 235 MHz 1:1, but I couldn't go higher beucase of the low memory voltage ... and yeah : teh DDR Bosster on this MB doesn't always work (in my case it goes up to 2.7v after which it locks the MB). Most people ussually get stuck ~260 - 265 MHz and regardless of what they do they can't go higher.
I've been stuck at exactly 260Mhz FSB with the LDT multi set to 3. The other day I changed the LDT multi to 4 and I was able to up the FSB to 270MHz. I haven't had time to test for stability for any extended period of time but I was able to Prime for like 40 min. when at other times at 270 I would error out like in 4 to 5 seconds or BSOD. You would think that running at 4*270=1080HT would be worse but it seems for now to run better for me at a higher HT. Anyone else notice this behavior?
I tried 280MHz FSB but that BSOD very quickly. Also, I was using Clockgen to change the FSB from windows so I haven't tried booting with the 270FSB setting yet.
@scorp
thanks for the input
is this ultra x? or VR?Quote:

i also got winnie 3000 275 x 8 = 2.2GHZ(default Vcore=1.45V) 5:4
got 287 as highest fsb(287 x 5) havent stress tested
VR, but they have UTT BH5 chips.

FSB x LDT x 2
shud be less than this value
200(default fsb) x LDT x 2 ???
I just forgot to add the extra 2 multiplier. Your correct it should be 270*4*2=2160. What I mean by worse is from a stability point a view since 2160 is greater then 2000 which is what the board is advertised to run at.

mine wont boot at all..so i have to manually adjust it to 3
(275x3x2 which is less dan 200x5x2)
1009 auto-adjusted 5x to 4x if you set the FSB at more than 220 MHz. But from 1010 upwards if you set 5x it really stays at 5x :D ... got to 2300 HT with no problems, althrough that didn't gave me any performance boost (not that I would have expected one) :)
@scorp
howd u get 2.0 and 1T?Quote:
2 x 512 MB Geil Value PC3200 (2.0-3-2-5-1T)
i got 1013.007 BETA and 1 x 512 MB GeiL VR (2.5-3-3-6 2T)
if i tighten it more, wont boot and have to clear cmos.
any special settings?
