what temps do you mean? i know for example that most bartons crashed when reaching more than 40°C load temps when they were pushed to their limit. if i kept it below 40°C it was stable...

Hey Guys, The F5 BIOS for the GB K8NS Ultra 939 fixes the cold boot issue and seems to have helped th board quite a bit with a Winchester. Someone linked to it in a post. Apparently GB TW sent it to him to try :). Worked great for me.

i think its just the booster... but im not sure, check if theres a vdimm mod for the board somewhere, i dont think a vdimm mod would kill the board though... epox wouldnt be that stupid to make a vdimm mod impossible :D
they made that mistake once with the 8rda+ and it hit them bad, so i doubt they make the same mistake twice :)

Ive had no problems with undervolting vdimm up to 3.3vdimm(not tried higher as my EB doesnt need it)
This board DOES have problems with TCCD and Bh-5 as of release bios(havnt been overclocking ect. much so i havnt been keeping up with bios revisions)
256 meg sticks of BH-5 work flawlessly on this board but 512meg sticks it hates with a passion to where it will not run 1T at any voltage up to 3.3v at ddr400 2-2-2-5. It LOVES micron chips tho. my 3700EB 2x512 will run 272+ flawlessly with 3.28vdimm 3-2-2-8 1T.
It doesnt overclock my cpu as far as my asus did at the same voltage. the asus would send my 3500+ NC to a touch higher than 2.7ghz. unfortunatly im only able about 2.65ghz on the epox.
There's a post in the vmod section for vdimm/vcore mods but i havnt yet found the vdimm read point so im working off the sensor that i believe is accurate if not a tad low.

I'm having a hell of a time getting anywhere clocking this 4000+. I keep getting "NTFS.SYS" BSOD errors. My bios is 1.37 and the only thing i can think of as a problem is i am leaving my AGP locked at 66, does the MSI k8n neo need the agp set to 67 to actualy lock even with the 1.37 bios? gawd i hope this is the problem cuase as soon as i go over 220FSB it bluescreens with the ntfs.sys error even though the CPU is at -56 and the evap is at -67.

Epox ... better than the Abit AV8 and Gigacrap Nf3.
EPox does have some limitations and additions to its bios.
Mem voltages and Cpu voltages are capped at 2.8 and 1.7 if i am not mistaken.
But it have the advantage of setting the chipset voltage which the MSI can't.

There are some complains here that Epox has a narrower range of voltages (although as far as I see it is easily moddable) and some bios bugs. Assuming that I will scrap gigacrap off the list, will the AV8 remain a viable alternative for it? I've seen that it is very tweakable, Abit usually stands for "overclocking stuff" but I don't know which one of K8T800Pro or NF3 to choose from...

- could not use Zalman CNPS7000A backplate due to some resistors (capacitors?) on the back of the motherboard

Just an extreme noobie......I take it no-one uses the Abit AV8 3rd Eye very much here? I also have an Msi Neo2 plat so the tips here were useful. Any help with the Abit would be much appreciated.

It seems that dimm slots 1 and 2 dont not like 2x512MB (dual channel)...
Dual channel would give me 1000's of errors in test 6 of memtest, using 2x512MB matched modules in slots 1 and 2. When moved to dimm slots 3 and 4 all worked perfectly. More wierdness; dimm slots 1 and 2 work perfectly with 2x256 modules (dual channel), weird eh.
I have confirmed this issue with 2 other friends, that have the same board.
Tested with 1T command rate enabled and with both the 10th Nov 04 and 25th Nov 04 (beta) BIOS revisions...

Yeah, it seems that the Epox can handle higher HTTs (over 1000MHz). Its quite strange really. Run 3Dmark 01, 03 and 05 to test for HTT stability :)

It seemed stable at 11x227=2.5Ghz at only 1.45Vcore, that was with an XP-120.
He's using it at 11x219 at 1.425 Vcore day-to-day no problems.

To get the heatsink off you need to squeze the clip from the back side of the board. Squeze the clip and push the pin out, careful though, it's on a spring so don't lose it, I fired one across the room :D.
The latest official BIOS is 1.4, although a lot of people still prefer the 1.36 for overclocking.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this : with BIOS 1009.xxxx BETA if you select 5x HTT (1000) you actually get only 4x once you pass 210 MHz or so :). Not sure what happens if you get really far (like 290 or so).

-slots 1 and 2 don't work even at stock speeds has memtest problems
-Slots 3 and 4 are OK with TCCD until you push past about 230Mhz then it really don't like 1T no matter timmings...
-NO 3.3 or 12V monitoring. If you see it, the numbers will be crazy as hell.

-more Vcore options up to +.35 in .05 increments
-Posts no problem at 325HTT and works well at 315.
-Works up to 280 with 4HT!!!

Well, the NF3 boards are better feature-wise than K8T800, and seem to overclock better, but are more expensive. At my supplier, Abit AV8 is 20% cheaper than the board i have - the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, which is serving me well (although it has its fair share of bugs\annoyances, like dodgy readings and cpu socket placement)
I like the Abit boards that I have used but wonder about the companies future after hearing about "Enronesque" financials. I have been reading this thread and am leaning towards a revision 2 Asus Boad. I don't really want to mod it much and want a feature rich board to setup with a new Winchester CPU. I fear the Asus board won't like my RAM though?

Vcore @ ClockGen is 1.45V
It makes me very uncomfortable because I don't know if my chip (which is 0431 :( but I have some hopes on it) can do 2500mhz @ 1.4XV OR 1.50V. If it's really under 1.4v currently i'll give him 1.5v and im sure he'll do 2500mhz at least.

The Neo2 undervolts by about 0.05, so giving it more volts is fine, swing
And that is @ 1.45 Vid. Must use vid % to get higher (though I don't see why it's needed ;) (insert smirking smiley here (sig))

As far as I understand, you need to bend one of the caps to mount an XP-120, right?
So, do you think I should get XP-90 and save the "risk", if any? :confused:
Or maybe the cooling differences will be to big to lose just because of a single cap?
Also, does the MSI stock NB hsf worth's something?

The NB HSF usually doesnt have proper application of thermal paste, from what ive seen. lol. i may check my own at some point. Apparently the NB fan has a short lifespan, though its not difficult to replace. Probably better to get the smaller XP-90 rather than taking risks with the 120 and possibly damaging something.
Swing, there are pics of a mounted xp-120 with the bend cap on the internet.
Search for it and decide if you 'dare' to take that step and bend it :)
difference between xp-90 and xp-120 is undoubtly tested by someone,
just google for it ;)

I've read several posts about the MSI Neo2 nforce3 having a poor chipset fan and after about a week with this sucker i'd have to agree. It gives off a high-pitched whine during operation. I had to disconnect it, it was driving me insane. Can we list this as a con of the msi neo2?

Some more info on MSI k8t neo2-fir via k8t800pro:
- Locks don't work. Tested both VIA-SATA and Prromise-SATA My SATA RAID-0 looses 50% of it's transfer speed after HTT 265, so I am currently limited to 2620 Mhz on my 3200+ (It would run 2800 with no worries :( ) Also AGP get's corrupted.
- Very little memory settings in bios (Using 3.2, havent found any modded bioses)
+ Takes acceptable HTT, I have clean Screenshot of 365, it even did a PiFast-run with that.
EDIT: Even with Vcore-mod I couldn't get a SuperPI with 2900, 2880 being the fastest :mad: It's a pitty, 2800 with mem in 1:1 would be nice, chip could do it with a little Vcore boost.

after reading this review of the epox-9npa (nf4 ultra) at xbitlabs i have some questions...
as you can see, the performace of a a64 3800+ was tested at stock settings (12x200), and at 8x300 with T1 and nice timings
u might notice the bad speed compared to the good old msi nf3u, but i try to look beyond that ;) and notice how small the average performance jump is from 12x200 speeds to 8x300 speeds...
since i was planning to buy a winchester 3200+ and a nf4u, i was wondering, does the overall performance (not pifast and 3dmark alone ;)) improve from lowering the multiplier and increasing the fsb/mem? i know most people here lower their multiplier of a 3200+ from 10 to 9, sometimes even 8... but does that really improve things?

Anyone tested the MSI Neo2 with the new Winbond UTT memory? I have 2 gigs of that stuff (4X512) and I'm thinking of buying this board ... I must make sure first it works though :p:
Got the ASUS SLI Deluxe today + Winchester 3200+ wait till I get Xp 120 and Mushkin RAM sticks (TCCD), i will start some serious OC.
On default with Leadtek PCX6600GT Extreme version (550/1150) 8600p in 3D Mark03 almost same scores like my old DFI nF3 250GB with 3000+ (soc.754)@2.3GHz and AGP Leadtek6600GT@575/1150 :)
Just wanted to add some info on the Soltek..
vdimm mod is the same is the nf7s and A7N nf2 boards.. same IC... tried it last night and runs fine up to 3.0v until Overvoltage protection kicks in...
board has solid vcore on mine up to 1.70 although fluctuates down to 1.68 under load...
locks do work, although the board tops out at 260 and is really only stable at around 248-250....
This board would probably love BH-5 since after doing the vdimm i still can't get it to run 2-2-2... best is 2-3-3-8
this is just some stuff ive gotten after tweaking on this thing for almost a month...
its a good solid board and has never given me grief other than the lack of a high FSB...
Hey there I have close to the same set up, Winchester 3200+, xp120, OCZ Platinum EL Rev. 2, A8n delux, Pc Power and Cooling 510 express Sli, Mitsubishi 2070sb, x800xt. Not now man, one of mosfets under the ASUS heatsink was burned yesterday, so I posted the mobo for RMA. Really a big fun with this mobo, cause I was still on default (waiting for new PAPST on Xp120). :eek:Quote:
