Xtreme WatchDog is what all the cool kids use!
if that is true i'm sure i must allready have it somewhere :D Seriously with the help i have been getting i don't think i will be ofline very long at all. I need to ask help in in harddrive area to straighten out my drive image problem, and i'll be all set.
edit: just checked my stats, this 3.4 is doing some major crunching, glad to put it to work doing some good.
hmm ok i installed 2 nodes useing the installer. after it installed everthing was fine and i could see the 2 d2ol icons in my taskbar. when i restarted my pc they are now gone. how do i open the GUI? [/n00b]
It might show up if you go to start and then find D2OL and run it from there. Or just find the .exe in the home directory
jjcom
I have an old node (accidentally loaded D2OL twice, so one of the nodes isnt being used). When I load D2OL on another machine, would I delete that current node.prp and load mine, or do I have to do something differently.
If the not in use node has NOT been regitured, then yes do that. if it has, install D2OL on the other computer and copy over the node.prp file
jjcom
yea, the node was registered. I thought I did it wrong, so I reloaded it, and found out I had already done it correctly. So, all I do is load D2OL and then copy over the node.prp. Thanks for your help.
yep, basicly, just replace the node.prp file that is made when D2OL installs and use the "old" one
jjcom
http://tn-d2ol-stats.homeip.net/team...=XtremeSystems my stats show up on this, but i don't think it put me down as a new member. Is this because i used installer on D2OL home page (not ezinstaller). Will this not show my milestone things such as passed 500 etc.No problem as i'm on the team just curious.
It has you down as a new member... (You are only in the new member list for a week) And yes it will track all of your stats & milestones just like anyone else’s.Quote:

D2OL-ing is Crunching! :up:Quote:

how do i check if i have any candidates saved up on my hard drive? and how do i add them to be uploaded?
As long as you are on the internet your clients will auto upload every 6 hrs. They won't them unless you have your Agents set to run offline.Quote:

Not true... Your resultQueue.dat can get corrupt and you won't be able to upload... or your queue can just totally disappear! :eek:Quote:

Sorry for the PM Jeff....
D2OL uses your cpu's extra cpu clocks to help find cures for diseases. It is usually set to the lowest priority so that it doesnt interfere with other cpu intensive programs. It uploads every 6 hours. Nothing is overkill for D2OL. There is not such thing. Raw megahertz looks to be the best. DTW, I dont think we have mny people here with opterons.Quote:

Port 80 is network talk for the port that all html communications take place... it's the port you hit the internet through when you are browsing the internet or downloading a file... or uploading weather stats.Quote:

I've got a newbie question: Why just set it to download 200 tasks at a time? Why not 2000 (max) or somewhere in between? I myself am sitting on a 10/10 connection and hd space isn't a problem either. How many tasks do you suggest I enter?
:toast:
As many as you can 2000!
The more the better, because although they dont happen alot, sometimes the task servers go down, and we can be stuck with only the cands that we downloaded.Quote:

it saves the work you've done. If you exit out of the program and reenter, all the cans you had done are still there. You can run a maual update so it uploads what you have done tho.
jjcom
Ok, thanks all! Gonna change it to 2000 then.
Thanks to moddolicous and jjcom for helping out! That's what makes this team so great!
back up after reinstall. .prp backup went smooth thanks to very good guide & very helpful members. I had a bad feeling while down, kinda like sports when you let your team down.Hopefully get back to my 100+ soon.Would like to increase that. When i get this rig under water i will be able to put 2.4c@3.1 up on line.
No need to ever feel bad about your output! As long as you do what you can... and for as long as you can... we are greatfull! :up:Quote:

Started with hang on welcome screen than it would go to black no BSOD,after trying different things i was unplugging periferals & when i unpluged printer it booted fine so i thought i had a driver issue removed driver & reinstalled new driver seemed to work fine, than for no reason keyboard quit,it started working after reboot.
This leads up to the last install when i used ghost9 to image clean install with only basic drivers etc. So when it crashed surfing web i ghosted copy with no problems worked 1 day & did the same exact thing flickered & rebooted to damaged raid array. I,m on my 2nd. ghost reinstall for 3 day's now working normal? The only error message has to do with pnp windows drivers that are loaded with XP is it possible that my XP disk is some how flawed or damaged?
Sorry if this makes no sense & is long but this is just driveing me crazy not to mention my production has gone to sh##. :brick:
Are the drives still under warranty? Perhaps it is best bet to RMA. After what you've done with the fresh install and all, and then you're having the same problems with it? Sounds like hardware to me.
How does a substitute hdd work? Do you have one That way you can isolate it to the HDDs.
ter to replace them.Quote:

I'm leaning towards this PNP plugnplay issue because of the USB printer & keyboard problem, that also includes drives right?
These drives are 36g. Raptors in raid 0 with 110g.seagate for backup.I have had them in raid0 & run seperatly in past with no problems.
I use same raid driver in F6.
It seems to work now for 3 days on this ghost image(same image that crashed after 1 day). I have a 10g. partition on backup that i could install OS on & double chek drives i just thought with testing i had eliminated drives.
Yeah, I understand how they want you to run their diag. apps. But still, even if there is no problem ( according to their app ) reported, BUT the problem remains, then I'd insist on an RMA.
That is [i]if[/i/ you can isolate the drives as causing the problem. If you can do that, and eliminate the PNP driver thing as being the thing, then I don't see how they can refuse you.
Thanks Serly i appreciate your input. I agree it sounds like a drive problem. That windows error p.n.p. thing could have been caused by ghosting, the fix was slipstreaming drivers in. That error has not happened again. I will try a 30 day install on my backup & if ok will do as you suggest.
Edit The problem that Boshi caused with browser, I.E. crashing etc. Would that maybe have caused my latest problem as i was looking at old post both times. Just a shot in the dark as i assume that was cleared up and i've been fully updayed all along.
Quick question... What is buffering.and how do you set it up. Does it do anything worthwhile?
Its so you can have a backup of cans ready to go incase someone over takes you. Like you could set one rig to run offline and it would just start storing up completed cans. Then when the time is ready you dump. Nice surprise, esp. if its 2000cans :D
jjcom
thanks jj, wasn't sure kinda thought it was that. So my new op systems would be a good one for the shadows? And is there a limit of cans??Quote:

The safer way, is to have the computer crunch and upload, but not add the node to your account. Then when you want a boost, just add the node and all of a sudden cans show up :D
jjcom
Niiiiiiiiiiiice!!!! Thanks.. Ohboy this will be fun...Thanks jjQuote:

In one of the stickied topics, you can find the link to make these sigs.
Or if you click on the right person's it will link you to the place where you can make them.

No, I run 256mb in another one of my rigs, it doesn't use up all of that. So it shouldn't change anythingQuote:

folding@home vs d2ol?
I've been folding for XS a long time, but the team seems to be dead, should I change to D2OL? I like both intention of the programs, so it's no problem for me to change. Change or stay?
I vote change, the folding team doesnt really seem to be doing a thing lately, we can always use more members on the d2ol team and on this team you'll never be bored.
yeah, vote for change as well. Even if you don't end up liking something, you can always return to folding. It's all for the cause :toast:
jjcom
Yea, I think our folding team is dead. I'm all for changing. Plus, we are on our way to #1 in the world soon.
ok guys I'll start D2OL, must only look how to setup. Don't know if it is better get the original client or rodzillas ones. And if rodzillas ones the community or personal account. Do I see my own points with community account?
Which ever one would work best for you. The Community one runs under the community node, meaning that you wouldn't have your name on the team. The personal one should work fine, or the one from d2ol.com.
jjcom
seems you have new team member :toast: , I've used rodzillas personal account and created an account and joined the team. Anything forgotten? Or anything I still have to configure? Last question I've ISDN with no flatrate. Has the programm huge packets? So that it take a long time to calculate them? greetings to all team member
if you are talking about a flatrate as in you pay for internet by how long youa re on, don't worry. You do not have to be connected to the internet to run D2OL. What happens is you must connect for a little bit to download a whole bunch of candidates(you can set it to store up to 2,000 cands). This may take a bit, but probably not more than an hour at the absolute most. then you can sign off line, let your computer crunch away for several days offlines, and then sign on again and it will upload all of your results. It will download as many candidates as needed to fill back up to the preset limit, and the process can start all over again. You don't have to be connected to the internet all that much honestly.
If this isnt what you were talking about, then just disregard this. :)
yes thx I'll set the que size to 500 because I'm sometimes for days not online (or is it to much?), so last question i've rodzillas setup, how can I restart the gui, I'll see if all is runing fine?
uff this proggi uses a lot of ram:
d2oldaddy+dockwin (44 MB)+d2olprogressd uses 47.5 MB of ram :/ is there a possibility to lower it? Folding@home needs less then 10 MB if I remember correctly.
If you can, set it to 2000, its better to have too many then too few. The server sometimes goes down for D2OL, it's best to have 2000.
No, can't reduce the memory it uses. :(
jjcom
Hey!
Well just started to D2OL and I have joined the XS team, and it has downloaded 200tasks, but how can I see what it excactly is doing? Or does it everything automaticaly?
you can either keep the main applet screen open or just watch what its doing with Dspy.
You can use DSpy to watch waht it's doing.Quote:

Do you need to have Java VM set up on your system in order to run two instances at the same time? It's popping a request for it when I try to launch the second client. I didn't find any post about this problem. Maybe it's just my OS that is screwed up.
How did you do the second install?
It sounds like you tried to do a copy and paste into another directory... that won't work.
You have to run the installer 2 times to get 2 nodes running.
I got it. Thx! :brick:
Okay, thanks mates.
after stop crunching for a while
now im back to crunch again with my rig (yeah its rig, its singular not plural) :p:
:toast:
good to have u back. The more the better
i need some opinions
which one is better to get
intel celeron or amd sempron?
what's the average candidates/day i can get for sempron 2200+?
NOOB QUESTION:
How do you run 2 nodes on one computer? Do you need dual CPU/core/hyperthreading?
yeah, you need to have a dual CPU or hyperthreading to use that. Rodzilla has an installer that will make setting up D2OL easyQuote:

Yeah, Hyperthreading does improve preformance, by say...25can around that area.

Ok I reformat/change hardware A LOT... If I delete a node do all the canidates go bye bye with it or no?

explain... My 9500pro crapped its self just a bit ago and I'll be putting my bench rig in my case for gaming/D2OL and this 3000+ newcastle will be dedicated D2OL rig as soon as I get a video card for it. How do I clean install windows and keep the same node? I just replace the node.prp file on the new format with the one off the old format? Is that what you're saying? Sounds simple enough...
I ment delete it from my list at the home page.
You just take the node file off your old install and when you do your new install, replace the new one with the old one. So I think you've got it
jjcom
Alright thanks! I hope my single fan radiator can keep the claw cool at 2.7 with my 6800 in the loop...
hye guys, i may be leaving my clan wich leaves me withe a dual opteron 246 on hand. the only thing really i want outta it is the hard drives. but i also jsut for giggels want to knwo what it can do over all. before i sell that machine i want to do a month or tow of folding with it. so my qutesion is, is thers a dual thead verion fo the folding ware, and is there 64 bit verion? just to kidna look at the numbers.
no, there is no 64-bit app, but there is a dual installer. I think with a system like that, around 220-240 might be possible. I think your the only one that might be on this team with a dual opteron rig.
i have a quick question
how can i remove the dead node, without reducing my overall cands?
coz i do reinstall so many times, and i have a many nodes in my list
Pretty sure that once a node has any completed candidates, it can no longer be deleted. Just have to carry around a dead node. I've got a few of those.Quote:

ok i got hte one but my max proc usags is 61 percent so im assuming its only using the one proc o paroozed theyr site a bit and counldt find a dual installer thing-a-mah-bob.

I want to set up D2OL on some PCs at work but the network firewall doesn't allow me to download or upload the candidates. Is there a way of doing that manually?
Can you check with your boss or network Admin? They might be able to help you, but if you wanted to do this...install D2OL on them, then you can take the directory home with you and upload/download canidates. But if you install D2OL on drive C: then it *has* to be drive C: that you run the program from on your computer. Work can only be done once, so make sure that they all get different work. (You can't just upload/download on one install and copy it to all the work rigs)
jjcom
Ok, thanks for the hint, I am gonna give it a try tomorrow. This is my only choice because I will never convince the IT guys to let me have a reserved port for D2OL. First, they don't trust engineers too much, and second, there are many legitimate issues about network security.
