It can "crash" during the load of GT3 and performance is then stock / low power 3D. There is no way to get 700fps at 1650 clock. I am sorry :)
but then it also was maybe the OCP ? or ocp is directly shut down?
ah thats stock clocks for gt4 even gt2 is way low for those clocks i get same gt2 at 1150 based on sb @5.4
sucks man you done killed it...
CPU was on stock for this result... we didnt care about the performance and the card didnt switch to 2D i think, because 1700MHz where nearly stable too.
Maybe it was an temperature issue, but we just saw, that the GPU was able to handle those clocks.
And beware of the memory clocks, I think this was the limiting factor in this run beside the CPU.
However... card is dead :(
to see the scaling... CPU on Stock is the reason for low GT4

we did also a straight 1450 run in 3DMark11 what results in 9700 Points (wothout overlocked GFX Memory) but no screen from this
it`s a bullsh(i)t scores in 03.
i can hit 721 fps on stock gpu and cpu clocks
it will scale even on stock 2600k. but not 720 fps
Bandwidh very low (192gb/s.) my friend,maybe the problem pci-e speed x8 :)
Yes we just saw that we used 8x after the Testing
score is :banana::banana::banana: as well but clocks aren't ...
and with Clock Switching in the Tests I think there is no reason for the OCP to come
Hello
I have the chart that I played in the moa 2011 in Istanbul, and the results he obtained are below the other participants to have this bug in the graph,
And I thought that was trouble for other things, motherboard, drivers, bios ect ...
But that is not asymptomatic and many things have changed and I think this model can accurately esatr engineren defective when a sample,
Been experimenting with a twin 580gtx frozr2 and I found that there are some estimates that lihting 580gtx not do it right, well mine.
I have done tests and found in the 3DMark03 test very low fps GT2 780 to 820 fps instead would have to give much more from 1300 to 1500 fps in default,
What could be the problem? I believe that any calculation engine of the Gpu chiset 580gtx is malfunctioning,

I've tried everything and now I give up and I think that is defective you are saying?
Thanks
Do you use riva tuner during the test..?
We've had the same thing in Istanbul. FPS at the start of GT3 were ok, but after the bench the average was <700 fps.
Hi guys. I've been reading you several months and your work is awsome. I've boughtt a 580 lightning and I'd like ask you for some help for pushing it. First of all, I'm not planning use LN2 (my wife would kill me), but I'll put on the card an EK VGA Supreme waterblock with a XSPC RX360 rad just for the card.
I've played with it one hour this morning because I've got not much time these days, and this is the best result I've got on air:
core +200
mem +100
aux +50
fan 100%
no switches up, no unlocked bios (VID for 832mhz 0.997)
3dMark 2011 @ 990/2300: P7087 (6801 GPU score) (i7 3,8ghz HT)
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/341...5809901.th.png
I hope I'll mount the block tomorrow if I can (today is very difficult), set a pair of delta fans blowing to the PCB, and try to see how far can I push it. Any advices?
Can I turn on the voltaje switches safetly on water? what about using the unlocked 1.21v bios too?
I used 1.21v with a 470 and this block reaching 925/2180mhz (53º), but I don't know if with the switches I'll be too much volts for water...
thanks! :)
The switches just add 0,04V... so I think its safe for water :)
But first try afterburner... just to max out the card.
I think these voltage switches are good for 24/7 OC or CB/CBB issues under LN2.
Thanks for the rep.
Finally, aganist my wife's desires, yesterday I was able to mount the EK block. I just could try 1000/2300 with the MSI AB maxed out and the max temp was 53º, which it's very nice. Today after work I'll try were can it goes with the switches turned on.
I have a couple of doubts, the PWM ClockTuner and PLL switches, what are they for? I mean, would I see any improvement turning them on?
And finally, is ther any kind of pencil vmod that I can do? I did the pencil vmod for memory voltage with the 470 and I got better mem clocks, but I don't know if there is a similar "light" vmod for this card. I have no soldering vmods experience and also, I don't know if a more agressive vmod can be done just with water cooling. Where can I find tutorials about vmods for the lightning?
[sorry for my english] :)
vCPU, vPLL and vMEM Switch just add Voltage. Nothing else. 0,04V in each case.
OCP Switch increase OCP from 500A to 550A (no need for this on Water or Air)
PWM Switch changes the Frequency of the PWM (Voltage Regulation/Mosfets)
with higher Freq you got cleaner Voltage output but your Mosfets get hotter.
And even the Stock Freq of the PWM is a lot more than used on other Cards or Boards.
Extreme Cooling switch is useless on Air/Water ;)
Thanks kabauterman! :)
I'll try today just with the vCore Vmem and vPLL switches turned on. :)
I think you will see no gain from the VPLL switch... but its worth a try...
Yep but it seems that my mems won't go over 2300mhz with +100mv, maybe it's its top frecuency on air. ok I'll focus on the vcore switch and the msi AB, at the moment I can reach 1ghz with +200mv, I hope I can push a little more with that 0.04 extra volts...
Thanks guys for the help. :)
Well, it seems that no matter how much voltage I put in the card can't go over 1ghz. I've tried with the vcore switch (also with OCP switch) and an unlocked bios (1.21) and even with temps lower than 55º it can't pass the ghz. The voltmeter reads 1.26v on load.
I was expecting better OC on water :(
Anyhow, thanks to all for your help.
Fermi produces so much heat there isn't a lot you can do without better cooling, i.e., something subzero.
Lightnings aren't mate for Air or Water cooling.
Usually this cards clocks worst on Air/Water compared to Reference design cards.
Even with a good card it's hard to go over 1G on Core...
And another Point is that good Air/Water cards clocks bad on LN2 and good LN2 Cards are to hot for Air/Water
We tested one new card 2 days ago. It can run 1000/1325 3DMark11 on 100% Fan Speed with just +100 on the GPU core. But the card seems so cold that we don't realy exspect good LN2 Results.
The card still being awsome, but after seeing my last 470 with this waterblock reach 925mhz, I supose I was expecting a little bit more mhzs. Well mates, thanks for the help. :)
Hello brother,
Do as tested with normal bios? that it ends in 06?
I've been testing and with this bios gives more fps in 3dmark03 but has the problem of cool boot,
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/818...s06altofps.jpg
low fps 3dmark03
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9...wfps580gtx.jpg
It may be that?
maybe memory timings?
how much more FPS?
I will test today
better brother
Try to have such.
I left a Lightining 580gtx video is the first that I came home for moa contest in Istanbul, but died when making vmode.
This chart rose to 1.33vt 1400core -150, and 1250 core 1.23 vt.

nice work kb!
Awesome run there KB:up:
No WR now just 2nd place, but good to see the Lightning performing so well.
This run was at -160 with +475mV GPU.
We had antoher run with 1650 MHz at +525mV only problem was that the card become to hot in one second in the end of GT3. Hopefully reproduceable today.
Did you used APS software?
Because if you looked at [DRACO] youtube link, you'll see he used it
Yes, but he used a lot less voltages (I suppose you were at ~+500mV, maybe I'm wrong) so I think it would be almost the same clocks with higher voltages.
I don't know if it is the reason, that is why I asked if you used it because I wanted to know what is behind these low fps problems
im 99% sure that APS is the problem of dracos low fps...
i`ve seen nobody using this ENGERY SAVING(!) software on a extreme oc Lightning... even with OCP mod this software can kill your card!
this makes no sense at all.
You disabled OCP for 1600MHz run?
If you use APS in combination with the OCP hardmods, you'll force your card to put all power through lower amount of phases and kill your card.
Well done Benchbros, it's good to see your 2k3 FPS are on par now  Go for 1650MHz :D:D
heres the new firstever vrm+ram temp monitoring for a fermi card
that i was asking about a few monhs ago
MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 3 is ready, this version took a bit longer because many new products are included, such as HD 6790/6770/6750. And of course, the new chip from NVIDIA this month.
Changes list includes:
- Added core voltage control for alternate revision of reference design NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 series graphicscards
- Added new compatibility option to "General" tab, allowing you to select GPU
type on some graphics card models using different GPU types (e.g. low-leakage and high-leakage Cayman GPUs on RADEON 6950 series graphics cards). The option affects default reference GPU voltage and 3D voltage control path
- Added memory and VRM temperature monitoring for custom design MSI N580GTX Lightning series graphics cards with NCT7718W thermal sensors
- Added memory and VRM temperature monitoring for custom design MSI R6970 Lightning series graphics cards with NCT7718W thermal sensors
- Updated MSI On-Screen Display server:
- Fixed resource leak in desktop video capture path, causing it to start capturing plain black frames instead of desktop after a few minutes of desktop video capture
- Fixed issue causing frames in video stream to be periodically duplicated during desktop video capture causing video stream to be longer than it is supposed tobe. This could cause audio/video de-synchronization after a few minutes of desktop video capture
- Improved OpenGL On-Screen Display coordinates calculation for framebuffer
coordinate space mode
- Added custom raster 3D fonts support to On-Screen Display in addition to the previously available vector 2D / 3D fonts. On-Screen Display 3D mode rendering mode switch has been replaced with new vector 2D / vector 3D / raster 3D rendering modes switch
- Now On-Screen Display coordinates are specified in pixels instead of zoomed units
- Now it is possible to use drag-and-drop in On-Screen Display preview window to adjust On-Screen Display position
- Now On-Screen Display supports tabulation symbols for better appearance in conjunction with variable width custom fonts
- Updated Korean localization
- Added Simplified Chinese localization
- Added Indonesian localization

seems like you have just PCI-E Gen 1
coz GPUz usually say's x16 2.0
2095 pts in Heaven would be about right if you were running on a slow board (Hydra or active nf200).
Does gpuz say that under load? Could be power saving pcie link management.

getting better, top slot fixed the poor scores :X

bake it :D
fixed my issues :) this is best clocks I could pull out of it today. Could only bench half an hour before too much condensation, very humid. Pot kept popping causing crashes but still good enough for single card WR. no mods..just fun card to bench
Good job
IHS still on? what dipswitch config you used?
all on, and yes IHS still on
Any ideas on if the humidity has a cause to the popping noise during bench? Going to re tim and see whats up under there
Nice score Splave! What week is you GPU (you can find 1xxxA1 writing on IHS)?
Congrats on WR , very good GPU....
Really nice! :)
I hate to come into this fantastic thread looking like a complete moron with this dumb post, but anyway here goes;
What do you guys think are safe clocks/voltage for this card on air (stock Twin Frozr III) 24/7? Also, is there any reason to OCP mod on air? Right now I'm running it @ 952 core/+143mv, mem @ 2250 all via Afterburner. Seems to be ok but I wonder if I'm not pushing it hard enough...
I'd try to get to 1GHz, although what you have is already pretty decent. Voltages wouldn't bother me as long as you don't hard-mod and temps are in check...
Today is as hot as it gets here in New England, USA; max core reached 80C under 99% load (53C memory, 56C vrm). Should I be concerned about OCP at this level (up to +200mv) or not?
No, OCP isn't needed unless you're running LN2.
Those cards need oven treatment, I think :)
Try 1 hour at 290~300°F
170°F will help you get rid of condensation, but won't restore broken soldering.
Or let the card rest for 2-3 days at room temp. Most of the times it worked for me
Did anybody test the XE version?
There is Hynix VRAM on it like on the SOC cards and hopefully there is no CB/CBB.
Our card arrived yesterday... but no time to test it under LN2 in the next days :(
http://www.abload.de/img/foto0owa.jpg
well the oven trick didn't work, guess I'll let them sit for a while. :(
Hi to all, I'm waiting LN2 and so I decided to play with my lightning. Put on an old Vga supreme on the chip, stock cooler was already in the box, and tried. Gpu reach 990mhz with 3dmark 2005, but I have a lot of problem with memory. At default voltages max 2200/2250 Mhz. Increasing volt with afterburner the max reached was 2300, also with +100mv (1.74v on load). At 2400 artifact and freeze immediatly, on desktop, also with 3dmark2005 bench applet open and so already switched in 3d mode. Someone have noticed something similar, or can halp me to understand ? thnx in advance
Does someone have an idea why two Lightnings that where able to run 1600 03 with Heatspreader
after HS removeal no more runs 1350 ? The Cards now can run 1300 in each bench but no 1350 nevermind what Voltage or benchmark.
Replacing the Heatspreader isn't the deal :-(
at least they are still working. i took the lid off one of mine and it worked for the first session and then a week later when i tried again > GPU dead lol
strange that they dropped so much, my card did about 25mhz more delidded but still nothing i was expecting really
Hynix ICs like cold loopy and will probably bench another 50Mhz higher than air clocks but nothing amazing though, they dont really scale with volts
Ok, so HS removal prevent Cracking but you loose 300 MHz mhhhh ok let me think about what I want to do :D
I think you have a problem with contact now that the IHS is gone. Use less armaflex or whatever you use for insulation...
All my GTX580 are without IHS and I benched 3D Mark 2011 at MOA ~1450MHz with 1.48v without any problem. Smoke and slamms did the same also without IHS... so I don't think there's a problem with IHS-less cards :)
P.S: After IHS removal, it's very important to put some nail polish or vaseline on the little SMDs that are near the core. Otherwise, when you will have some water there the GPU will DIE instantly
I just believe that its only a matter of time(2~3 sessions)until a 580 dies when overclocked with high voltages and/or very low temperatures.
Now I will try another CUII witch I haven't stressed it yet(only cascade tests with and without heat spreader)and see if it will last longer when stressed without heatspreader.
The Pot has perfect contact, no Armaflex around the GPU, just some Paper Towel. I'm sure it is no contact problem but I have no Idea what else it could be. GPU runs fine, even on air, and even up to 1300 MHz with the same Voltage scaling than before. Its like a Wall
It probably has nothing to do with HS removal. As I wrote in DCUII thread, same thing happened to my friend's junior-21 card. The card had cb @-170 and run fine unigine for two sessions @1490Mhz with 1.56 vcore. The third time we tried to overclock it suddenly could only run @ 1300Mhz and the cb was gone without touching the HS.I thought something was wrong with the TIM under the HS so I removed it and tried again but nothing changed. Also strange is that I just tested it on cascade and it has lost only 10Mhz in cascade conditions(1250Mhz before-1240Mhz after/1.35vgpu@-90).
Only thing I can think of is that some contacts underneath core have problem.
