If you read the news thread on the MSI Hawk, you will see that we think that they have better quality PCBs and cooling, however the GPUs are not cherry picked. Review samples are cherry picked, the ones that are released to the public are jut normal binned ones with the same random luck for overclocking.
So I dont think its worth buying the Hawk over the Cyclone (£40 price difference), also that I Game version would make a much better buy as it is guaranteed to run at 900 Mhz, and possibly even 5000 Mhz ram, but its only being released in Asia.
My card is pure :banana::banana::banana::banana:. It barely does 820mhz stable, and for that I need 1.062v. I tried diong 825mhz today, even with a voltage bump to 1.075 and it still locks up. I truly have the worst GTX 460 out of the hundreds I have read about all over the net. Extremely disappointed.Quote:

talking to a friend thats an Electronic Ing he said that prolly the vrm are soldered over a copper flat surface over the PCB to disipate as if you zoom that zone you can see something under the chips, i think just the problem becomes on going over 1.1+

Unsolder one of the BIOS chips :D Card will be forced to only use one then. Just make sure you can resolder the BIOS chip if the card starts getting moody.

Pimped out the VRM's with the Enzotech Ramsinks Sergio suggested, will do the other card tomorrow. The second row was a little wide to fit so it required some snipping but turned out pretty good.

Thats why i got a DirectCU, these have stock VRM sink. Even my incomming GTS450 have heatsink on the Vreg.
The 24/7 clocks for my three GTX460s. I can run furmark @ 980 core on all three but they always fail when doing F@H.

i would say that, over 80% of all GTX460s can get stable at @950 with air, but it's just a theory (my theory). Viewing from this point, 950 is not to far from 1ghz so..

Now as far as stable , everyone has their own idea of stable but , I perfer to use program that hammer an push my cards .. When I bench with vantage I do it 3 times in a row , if I see the smallest artifact or tear I will consider it NOT stable . I fold at home as well considerig my comp is OCed 24/7 and on 24/7 .. it depends on WHY you are stressing it, and what's your objective..
i like to call stable when i can play for hours like 4~5~6 without any problems or artifacts.. that's what i call stable, i really dont give a shi* about furmark/occt gpu/kombustor/etc..
sometimes i use the stress-programs but for 5 mins at top just to check the temps quickly, not an hour or 1 day... only because it's not stable on them doesn't mean that isn't stable on games too. you guys have to agree with me that any kinda of game is definitely less "heavy" than these stress programs.. so why not use a game that is the closest of 100% gpubound to test the overclock? i know this older way, takes more time, surely u will get more bsods, so what? At least you won't be hurting your vga.
some guys "play" furmark .. they have the furmark icon ready on their desktop ..im not saying you or you do it, but surely some do. the super stress abuses the card too much (it was made to do it), gpu and all components do suffer a lot when the stress is rolling mainly without pauses, it's like you contributing to kill your own vga minute by minute..
again, and just to let clear, that's MY point of view.

Vantage, no errors or artifacts. Did you bump your memory OC down some when trying for 930 on the core? I thought my core was the problem when it was actually the memory clock. So I bumped down the memory some and was able to get it stable at 930. I also made a custom fan setting through Afterburner so the fan ramps up faster then the stock, not sure if that made a difference or not.Quote:

Yes, I run the performance setting, no artifacts or lights breaking though at the top of the screen. I just tried 940 and got a driver crash during Vantage. But 930 runs no problem.Quote:
