Do you happen to know what the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is running? Their listed as 6 members and are now generating about the same amount of points per day as XS team!

Well as MM has said in the past an IBM research data center.
I must say, you new folks on the team just plain rock!
I've been reading all the new questions, your contributions, and your fresh viewpoints. The team is getting stronger with your help.
I sincerely thank all of you who took the leap of faith and joined us in this cause.
I would hope most of you noticed that this section of the forum is quite special. (I mean the entire "DC" section.) There are very dedicated folks here squeezing every single M Flop they can out of the hardware they have, and are not afraid to re-visit older systems too. Of course, some of us get our hands on the "state of the art" hardware. This task we do is becoming known as the real "crucible" of how future hardware should perform.
My best to all of you,
Bob
Well, it's a pleasure, finally I can put my pc to good use :D When buying it I thought it would be used more for private servers of various games I play but after getting hooked to WoW again that idea was gone completely and my cores were sitting idle most of the time, now they're working on hopefully finding cures :) After installing it on my pc and showing how easy it is to pauze it for a minute in case you need the power for something else my girlfriend immediately agreed to installing it on her pc too :D
I don't go on the site much to check points or anything, I just randomly check my sig to watch the rank jumps :D (no clue what rac & fdcrac mean though, lol)
Second badge and 200k :rocker:
123bob, you were saying...?? ;)
I joined today with my Asus PC-DL with 2x 2.7Ghz Xeon's. No Moosemod atm (long story). I know its not's much, but its the best i can do atm :|
Every last bit helps I think. Check out my crappy crunchers ;)

Iirc... It's Mr. Kermit is the largest contributor. He manages the campus supercomputer. He said he couldn't give out specs as a matter of competition but it's mostly core 2 quads.
Again, that's all from memory so it might not be as accurate as possible.
And on the top 500 comment - there are so many computers not on the top 500. I actually know and have seen a computer that would completely destroy the #1 and 2 spot combined. It's owned by an oil company. I had the privilege to talk to them about it - it's an amazing machine, but they don't release details as a matter of competition. They don't want their competitors knowing what they're running or that they even have it. Not exactly sure what difference it would make to know about that huge computational power, but apparently it's serious enough that they really don't want me talking about it...
Tried to get them to run WCG for us... That's still in talks but not going so well. :shakes:
Hey I gotta try right?

I'm not familiar with several of those teams ... but it looks like XS and two others blew past Easynews in the dailies!
Hi again all and thanks for having me
Ive already meet DA but Id I like share with the rest of you what Im bringing to the game.
AthlonIIx4 @ 3.4ghz
Athlon64x2 4450e
Athlon64 3200 @ 2.5ghz
And the rig in the sig. The above rigs will be dedicated while my sig will take some gaming breaks.
What kind of numbers could I expect? And better yet is it looking good for the team to take the number 1 spot?
We are currently producing a little over half as many points as the 1st place team.
So still aways away I see. Well atleast progress is being made:)

I'm harassing my facebook contacts so hopefully some join or tell their friends.
My machine is crunching away atm. I'm about to get some bfbc2 action so I'll need to remember to PAUSE BOINC! Yesterday I got in game and was like why is my machine a little laggy? Um ya BOINC was running in the background at the same time I was actually able to play Bfbc2. Laggy. Live you learn.
I downloaded the 64bit version and I'm crunching with the machine in my sig. I have forced cool air straight to the front intake of my thermaltake case. My temps peeked at around 54. I'm going to try to clock it up to 3.9 and see what my temps peek at.
Im confused.
Im guessing that wcg's program is x86 and Im getting the impression that boinc is one in the same as wcg but offers x64?
Very new at this and just having a hard time sorting all the different programs, projects, and what not all out.
Got 10 cores running right now on wcg's software and 8 of which can run x64.
Just want to make sure im getting the most out of each.
WCG offer their own, tested, vetted and badged version of BOINC, but they only offer the 32bit client. BOINC themselves offer both 32 and 64bit as well as multiple versions.
congrats guys. our daily points output nearly doubled compared to one month ago

There are many threads about this topic here. The conclusion of the team is x64 gets you about 10% more points than 32 bit on the same machine.
The only piece of hardware that really matters is the CPU and its speed, nothing else has a noticeable effect on performance.

i finally got my rig crunching and my WCing works great, but how do i stop it?i mean i dont want to lose
any WU's or screw up the ones ive completed.so i want to do it the right way.i want to stop for a while
so i can reinstall my OS to Vista x64 and then get my setup OCed to 4.2Ghz stable for more power.
So do i just click the suspend button?

This is the first team I've joined.
It was partly a fluke. I had 200hrs worth of DDDT2 work get credited that day.

2 x i7-980x @ 4GHz
1 x Q6600 @ 2.8GHz
1 x Phenom II BE550 @ 3.1GHz (unlocked quad)
1 x XP 4400+ @ overclocked (can't remember)
1 x dual X5460 @ 3.16GHz (stock)
1 x dual Xeon @ 3.2 GHz (stock)
@pirogue Ah cool. Doing a mighty fine job!
me i got the yes of my dad and my brother so tommorow i will put online a old pentium d and a core 2 duo. I have also some payback from government comming so i am looking to put up a i3 530 dedicated cruncher. After that, well i still havent made my mind with all the choice i have ( 4 socket g34, 2 socket evga sr-2, 980x) for a very big dedicated cruncher.
1,786 team members. 552 new members in less than two weeks.:)
yeah i already did know that pulsar. What i was saying is that i dunno what to get between a 980x rig, a 2 socket x5650 evga sr-2 rig or a 4 socket g34 rig andf also if i update my current rig in my sig. Need 3 rig maximun and a maximun of ppd from those 3 rig while one those 3 rig must serve me as a daily rig.
We should all recognize Rise for making a great video to further recruit for our team. Thank you!

You can download the program here, XtremeSystems WCG Data Viewer
If the software breaks any property rights of the forum or the admins have any objections (useless, etc) please let me know and I will remove it from the web ASAP!
Nice tool! Not to be picky because well I can't write programs haha but when you try to sort by run time or points it doesn't sort by total number just by the first number.
I know the Joined column doesn't sort correctly if I have Active Members disabled, the [retired date] makes it sort as strings and not by dates.
Not sure why the number columns don't sort correctly for you, I don't see that problem here. The only thing I can think of would be if the numerical data was using the period character instead of a comma to separate the thousandth place in numbers.
I was folding on another team before. I decided to join XS because this community simply rocks :)
I am glad to help crunch some numbers for a good cause.
welcome aboard!
I've got 2 machines and a core2 laptop at work crunching. I don't really like leaving my computer on at home but I may get those 8 threads going for the 1st-8th :)
I could just start installing it on all the machines here in my department... That would be like 400 core2duo's :D
Thanks for your help.:)
As long as you get permission from your department to use those computers, that's cool. Our team has a long-standing policy of not illegally borging computers.
Get permission for those 400 machines! That would be crazy!

So after months of crunching I kept wondering why I was get project errors till I checked what project and it was Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2. Thought I had it unchecked on the projects list. Wasn't this a known problem? Well now I can hope for more PPD now I was always a little curious why it was always25% lower than it should be.
Yes, HP2 has always had problems. I would recommend that unless you feel a strong need to run that project, to uncheck it in your Device Profiles.
Is HP2 a default project? I wonder how many other team users are crunching uncrunchable units.
Yes, it's a default project. There was a recent thread on this problem.
Maybe this wants flagging in "join the easy way" maybe elsewhere too....The new guys need this info....the team needs the performance
I will post a thread and include it in the guides.

So, I've been crunching for about 24hrs, and I see that quite a few of my submissions have been validated, why haven't I earned any points yet?
According to Free-DC you have started accumulating points. I think it is just taking a while for WCG stats to catch up.

Yes... I joined up and today and I'm configuring my modest few "crunchers" to help with the big push! Saturday is fast approaching.:)
I'll be happy just to break into the top 500 points wise on the XS team roster.
I am now well over 35K ppd, so i'll hold my overclocking efforts at that point until after the 8th so it can run stable during the whole event.
Ready for action ! (actually, already in action !)
