I'm actually looking at selling my 3 phenom base quad cores as gaming systems. That would get rid of my gtx 295, my gtx275 and my 2 8800 gt's. Technically I have 8 machines right now.

It's a lot for my wife to deal with when I'm away and my competitiveness is making it worse. Expect a simplification that will likely make more points anyway in both WCG and GPUgrid. That, and reduce overall heat output. Details still in work, and I really need to see what I can get for those gamers.

They are in Japan. I'm in the desert..so not exactly with me haha. Shipping is moderately expensive...70-100 bucks usally each when I order cases.

ETA: If I was to sell to someone on here, I would go half on shipping though.

Looks like my GTX260 has died. :( I have been getting errors with it the last couple of days, so I dropped it back to stock settings. Now when windows applies the driver at start up, I get a blue screen nvd blah blah blah error. It's a re-certified EVGA card that is long past the 90 day warranty. I had to take one of my GTS250's from my other rig. I'm now running one GTS250 on the grid, and the other on F@H.

First time I have had anything die on me from crunching. (not counting D9 ram, have had plenty of those die :lol:)

That really sucks; sorry about your loss. Thats the one bad thing about buying recert or used, lose out on the warranty cause you know it won't break under warranty

I just notice my prod has been down. looked and a bunch of errors. so I updated to 195.62 yesterday... dated 11/26

I have been watching a good ole fashion horse race between mikeb12 and 06F150fx4 (aka jetengdoctor on GPUGrid) :horse: ... they have been trading RAC positions non stop for the last couple of days ... I think it is so close that each time one of them returns a result they take the lead and then the other is like "I don't think so pal" and it flips back around again :rofl:

I've been remodeling my house over the holidays, so that created TONS of idle time for my box. I'm not sure how long would be sustained under normal usage. But it has been fun watching my rac climb just to know what my box is capable of.

I'll tell ya ... I looked long and hard at that EVGA 4 Way Classified and 4 GTX 285 Classified deal they ran for a while. I decided that it would be difficult for me to keep it and my existing machines running in the long term (I can only afford to run so much) so decided to stick with the hardware I have for now. :dreaming: ... can you see that board stoked with a westmere tooling along at a cool 4.5GHz :sigh:

On a brighter note ... looks like 'doc may have conquered the ghost in his machines and is starting to return some serious numbers :clap:

I updated my AV yesterday and it suddenly decided to barf out acemd ... repeatedly ... both machines ... :shakes:
I only lost about 1.5 WUs but that's enough in this crowd to make me concerned about getting me a slice.

Trying out some new settings on both cards (I'm a glutton for punishment).
My GTX295 responds really nice to more volts but I am having a tough time keeping the temps under control (fan at 86% temps at 83c).

To get a slice of the bottom you need 35k... So 2 Highly OCed 260's would get in once in a while.

An OCed 295 under water could also get you a slice according to JackOfAll's numbers... But 3 Solid GPUs would get you a stead slice I think...

I have a 295 that is currently pulling 37.5k and then a 285 that runs great for a while and then craps out again (only doing 15.5k but it should be doing 24k easy) ... I'm almost thinking there is a memory leak in the HERG WUs as that one kills me and once it starts it craps out all other WUs until I reboot. I have pulled back to <gasp> stock </gasp> on the 285 until I can figure out what is really going wrong.

So even a 295 OCed on air can get you some pie most days? huh... More powerful that I thought.

God I wanna see Fermi come to life... Or atleast get 58xx/59xx running! :slobber:

I think that a couple of the big crunchers at the very top reached their short term goals on this project and have switched over to something else ... most notably DAK and JackofAll. Road Runner was also in the top 5 for pie for a while but he has moved on also. We thank them all for getting us to number two with their awesome points production :clap:

Some people come and go between projects just to try new things or they get a change in focus like bio, astrophysics, cool science (LHC), or pure math projects). Some people start crunching and then either can't deal with the heat, electricity bill, start to get worried about the wear and tear on their components and then you have some that have OC'd so high they are actually not quite stable for 24/7 crunching so get frustrated with the constant issues that come with that territory. Have I dropped GPUGrid for periods of time ... yes ... for all of the reasons above at one time or another.

Other people have been here quite some time, come back or simply crank out big numbers without so much as uttering a peep. I admire their perseverance and humility :worship:

Because the new Nvidia cards are not out yet (and likely won't be affordable for a few more months) and we don't really know were GPUGrid is going with ATI at this moment I would go with the 275. There have been some problems with 260s and the 285 doesn't get you much more because it really is a crap shoot on the shader OC and you will pay a pretty hefty premium for this card.

I can only handle one more top end card and will likely wait it out to see what happens with GPUGrid/ ATI and the new Nvidia cards before buying.
This gives you guys an opportunity to push me out of the running for positions 4-6 on the pie. The three of us are so closely matched I think if none of us slips (I had an errant downclock the other day) then daily positions are dictated by the luck of the draw on which WUs we get.
