Count me in when this gets underway :) Planning on starting to OC again once the Winter season starts here!
no kidding, that's basically what I was thinking. oh but no, i should already own the gear for it and be "experienced".:ROTF:
I think if I win, the first thing I'm doing is attatching an arctic cooling heat sink to it and posting pictures of it doing "OMG 3.8ghz!" and letting everyone feel the urge to puke in disgust for a few weeks.
i should not make comments
was my comment wrong? dont understand mass.
sorry for being an ass!
all i really want is one of the ES Q9xxx series that run on 680i's!
but then again...free stuff is free stuff! do want!
(by the way, if i win ill post pictures of the chip with some whipped cream on top if you'd like)
for all we know it might be a cherry atom like someone said above :)!

Hope I win a cherry chip!
I don't think I am going to participate, its sad to say that though everyone is nice on the forum and very friendly. When it gets down to the high end overclocking a lot of us don't have the money to throw down on LN2 and hardware to become amazing overclockers. I work for a helpdesk making decent money, but I have 2 car payments and rent that I have to pay and a child to take care of. I agree to the point that I wouldn't be able to use a cherry chip like it’s meant to be used and hell I probably couldn't afford the hardware needed to use it properly.
But what has been pissing me off from reading some of the recent posts in this thread is that by someone who could be a possible great overclocker winning a chip like this or any of the nice hardware, it would upset a lot of the extreme overclockers who have high end hardware setup just to benchmark. We are suppose to be friendly and encourage others and even help out where need be, and sometimes that doesn't happen.
Look at myself for example, I have a 6400+ BE that runs great, we know it won't work great under extreme cold but hell it barely wants to do 3.6Ghz on air. But when it comes to software tweaking and getting the best performance for my buck in my 24/7 workstation and gaming rig I feel I am up there with a lot of others.
I do have the extra time here and there to try to have some fun with overclocking and benchmarking but when it comes down to the bottom line. I don't have the money to afford pushing things way past their limit.
@BenchZowner we are only a niche of the market and there are a lot of chips that go into everyday desktops and gaming systems that are built by OEM. My best Athlon XP that I ever owned came out of a damn HP laptop. And I worked with a guy who got an amazing A64 3500+ out of an Emachine desktop. I understand where your coming from and I know you were not trying to be offensive but when comments like that from people who have great overclocking skills is a put down to those who are trying to prove themselves and don't have the money or backing for the materials to do so.
This reason here is why I wish I had more locals in my area I could get together with and at least learn and even share my knowledge and skills. I know Gomeler and XMSYellowBeard tried a while back. But again some of us aren't as fortunate as others though we try; we should be encouraged even more for our dedication.
BrokenWall just hang in there guy. Things change and some day you will be able to bench up extreme. Shoot half the time its a lot of fun pushing older equipment to the max and seeing what it can do. Thats the spirit of over clocking anyway :)
That and hanging around with other like minded people. You have some good people where you live and prolly a few more that you don't know yet. When you got time connect up with them and have some fun !
I am sure they are like me and have tons of fun over clocking with others. As I have said on other forums my lab is open for use anytime, all they have to do is pick up the phone and call.
It's more fun sharing anyway :)
Oh yeah Chris, that guy has a strange obsession with budget video cards.
@Buckeye I have no problem with my old hardware, thats what I usually do. I have a decent old AMD Skt 754 2800+ but a really crappy FIC board that a friend had left over so I could use it for a media center.
I have no problems where I am at, I got here myself and my son and family comes first. I am having the best fun with what I have.
Well I want a AM3+ Athlon XP Quad 3Ghz
Subscribed! :D
you guys are surprising me with your imagination, :P
I'll promisse something :
If I get this, my pot will arrive here even earlier than the chip, would get it through ups international, same price than the pot, \o/
Really interesting giveaway, hope it is not an ES :P
here i'am:)Quote:
I am interested into the young kid who have fun with his hardware
I am interested into the young kids :shakes:
I suspect this has something to do with this thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=229185
There's a link to this thread in Simons link madness.
Listen,
It looks like some people misunderstood what I said and didn't get the point I intended to pass.
What I meant was that if you don't have the money at the moment to buy the necessary equipment ( hardware & LN2 equipment ), experienced or not, it would be a waste, and when you eventually get the money to buy the equipment needed you'll more than likely be late to the party ( as in, the chip won't be anywhere near the top chips at the time given and even if you're a top notch overclocker & tweaker you'll be way off the top 50 because the others will have better & newer hardware ).
Another point is, if you're not experienced in LN2 OCing, or you never had any extreme overclocking experience, but you intend to "get in the game" there's a big chance of "burning" things down including the CPU in case something goes wrong insulation-wise, and believe it or not a lot of beginners had such accidents losing hardware, etc until they learned how to properly insulate their stuff on their own or guided by another more experienced extreme overclocker.
Let's ignore the "damaging" experience for a sec, and pretend that everything's gonna be ok, etc.
The "beginner Joe" will more than likely... NOT be able to squeeze out the best of the chip because ironically, he doesn't have the experience to do it.
I can give you for example a 6.5GHz E8600 and the rest of my hardware and equipment, and you ( not specifically you, generally speaking ) may get stuck even at under 6GHz.
In the beginning people make mistakes, try to learn new things, etc, there's no need for a super duper cherry-picked CPU, you may get a retail chip ( cheap or expensive doesn't matter ) and with some luck of draw it may be a crazy clocking chip, or an average clocker.Anyway, you'll be having fun and learning how to "properly" OC & bench with LN2, no matter if you're running a 6GHz E8600 or a 6.6GHz E8600 [ quite a lot E8600s nowadays hit over 6GHz ]
To compete at high levels you must master some stuff first, like Vmodding, temp control, BIOS tweaking, software & app tweaking, etc.
Benching isn't a plug 'n' play compatible hobby, you simply can't get into the top places of the "league" simply by running a cherry-picked CPU.
As for encouraging new & young people in getting into extreme overclocking, I can give you access to my inbox ;)
Sorry if I offended you.
Friendly,
Bill
Im throwing my hat in the ring, but like some others here, I bench only on air, cant afford anymore at least not right now.... cheers
I see where you coming from benchzownwer. It makes sense that people with high end gear have better chance of getting the most out of the cpu but im sure everyone will love a cherry chip :D I don't think anyone should feel offended though
I thought we have to compete so i checked if i have the right gear :
F1EE
Gigabyte board
Corsair ram
Cascade :D
Luck be with us all :)
how's it advancing? :)
I am sensing that the "annoucement" will be on the weekend sometime - probably Sunday night (when I am at 35000 feet over the atlantic.....)
From reading the post in this thread seems most people think Charles should change the giveaway to young only, experienced only and must have a LN2 pot to win a chip he is giving away, what a shame, leaves it to the people who already get cherry chips, human greed... :shakes:
Though I would love to have a cherry chip I too see a chip that was binned with a purpose of being a 5.5Ghz beast going in a 4.2 Ghz 1.1v 24/7 rig as a waste. Perhaps thats best so not to place fear of "The Nemesis" into top 25 hwbot benchers. That said this thread is getting silly.:yawn2:
I approve this thread http://www.theflipsideforum.com/Smil...c/thumbsup.gif
wait, I think I just figured it out. its a contest for cherry southbridge chips
You know what would be awesome? A cherry Pentium 4. I've always wanted to see 10GHz :p:
I just hope Dorito's isn't coming out with a new flavor...
Hey... id give that a shot :)
What if it was McCain?
This would help my plan to take over the world!:D
Should I say what the processor is?
Should I run it to show what it can do?
It should go to a member with some post count.
Would you be upset if you won an ES cpu in a contest?
obviously everyone is interested in this "giveaway"
1) yes, if you say what the CPU is, it might weed out some people that don't even have the platform
2) i'm sure we trust you when you say it's cherry chip, but you can run it anyways :yepp:
3) what post count do you have in mind?
4) nope, would not be upset since it's free. but this brings up another questions. so is this a giveaway or an OC'ing contest?
this thread has gained a lot of popularity and so many unanswered questions, so just spill the beans already!
w00000t!!!!
you are such a tease!!!!!!!!!!!:yepp:
Yes run it!!!!! That will really build the excitement. Even better if whoever wins can't match your clock with equal cooling:rofl: (Much to learn u still have. U r Not a jedi yet)
Definetly set a post count minimum. Sorry for some of you heck it may even exclude me:shrug:
Only if intel contacted me and wanted it back the first day I got it since all es cpus are intel property:ROTF:
LOL your killing us :)
I've got the exclusive CPU-Z shot of said processor that everyone's been looking for.
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gautamb/fuggercpu.jpg
I might end up getting fired from staff for letting this cat out of the bag but it's a risk I'm willing take to end the suspense.
oh man thanks for leaking that
i just couldnt hold it in any longer :D
Can I hope for an upgrade from an 6550?
This is the greatest thread ever wow LOL I love that processor. I want it!!
What no SSE5 or SSE6? :)
Post count sounds good.
Guess I gotta take out Dave though... ;)
If I win this thing, I'm going to underclock it just for spite. :poke:
I wanna Cherry CPU!!!!
bookmarked :)
haha this thread is fun to read just cuz of everyone that's already jealous when nobody has won yet!
Run it please :D
Keep to stock volts let us do the over volting,
It'll be a teaser of sorts.
:)
Allow us to find that amazing headroom.
Of course you can always do a short run of how high it can go and not tell us.
>.>
Sadly you would of popped the Cherry of the CPU,
I don't mind week old virgins they are still good.
Cherry is incompatible with my system. Do you have any Blueberry CPUs?
My post count is leet, so I win :D
Enough with the small talk - give the cpu away already!!!!
I would like to see one passed around from member to member. That would be so cool.
