PM sent for mod instructions
nice :p
can i have the mod kit..or mod instructions..thanks :)
Any one here kind enough to tell me what ohm the resistor next to the one that has to be removed is? that would be resistor nr 6. thanks in advance.
I'm in the middle of modding it right now...I hope I don't kill it.
thats measured with the board off right?
Does anyone have links to this hardmod?? Or is it the same for all X58 boards???
hardmod for x58 xtreme pls :)
Finally got it! I really was worried I killed for a bit.
So far I have only got to 225 without it locking up, but I am just happy to be booting up again at this point.
Using F8 final bios
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/s...g?t=1250827241
ditchmagnet only F8 BIOS without hardmod?
F8 final WITH hardmod (my crappy version of it anyways)
Keep pushing, glad to see you finally got it buddy!!
Higher IOH then you are used to may be needed for high Blck, at least that's what I find. I have no clue how others get high Blck's with stock or little IOH, I seem to always need it.
You can use any BIOS you like, you just will have to use SetFSB to change the PCIE inside windows if you do not use the Fxx versions.
I might switch to F7 till I get a fan controller as F8 just runs my fans at full speed
Try the latest Beta instead I think that is fixed now.
I find PCIE 106-110 to be best myself
Man, is this "mod" a "state secret" or what??? Those that have done it, where did you get the pics/info from, besides Hicoockie?? Or is he the ONLY source for this info??
you answered ya own question there...
can i have the hardmod instructions/pics....PM.....pls
very nice this GB mobos. we do not need classified. What is classified?????
Ok, wtf is a F8x file extension?? Looks like this is only the mod bios??? I seem to find no documentation/pics of hardmod process???
Look harder and more outside the box, the documentation IS posted here in this thread. It's just not obvious as a link or anything, but think along those lines
Qflash or SPIFlash will read any extension, you can name it .F132 if you like. The x just notes that it is a special BIOS for something particular is all.
And just so you know, you need the F9x for UD4P not the F8x
Thnx, am searching now....
WOOT!!! Found it, little hinting helped!!! Now, about that mod bios........
So, the latest f10 bios has the ability to unlock the pcie then??? If so, all i'll have to do is the hardmod correct??
Yes, special Fxx BIOS versions are needed ONLY to allow you to set PCIE freq in the BIOS higher than 103, you can just use SetFSB in in windows to change the PCIE with any BIOS.
So it is wise to use the latest BIOS and just do that
I made it to the 230's! really stuck at this point though...I am thinking I will have to wait till winter for some cold air and try again.

Hey cookie :) can i please get the mod instructions for the UD5 please :D
cheers :)
cheers, got the instructions :) ive got SMD irons but for these little guys i usually opt for a nice width tip that can heat both ends at the same time :)
OK - I have stared at that first post for over an hour now; I have 'moused over' every single element in it; I have plugged in numbers that look like they 'might' be thread numbers into "http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=xxxxxxx", and I'm feeling really stupid here; I've read and re-read the 'hints' that seem to have pointed some people to this mod... HELP! Can someone PM me??? Before I completely lose what's left of my sanity?
How to make mod pci-e???
read this thread !
That's exactly what I'm saying - I have read this thread, until my eyes are ready to bleed (already have an eye infection, anyways... salve in 'em, four times a day!) and I just am not seeing it! Tell me this - is it somewhere in hicookie's first post??? EEEKKK!
See page 4, think "Fire" and see the link..... Then think hard and outside the box
That's about as good of a hint as I can offer
lol
Uhh ohh!
Hopefully you intended that Pyro whether intentionally or not, otherwise all hints may be null and void now :D
:ROTF: 'Fire' indeed - the funniest part, LSD, is that I finally found it about two minutes before your post! I thought "geez, that's awfully deeply nested to just be a 'file hosting thingie'... Hmm..." Thanks all, now I gotta find a bunch of suckers to send to the first post so I can enjoy the fun...
Bill
hehe was a fun mod :)
just fired the board back up and it still works, i can set the PCI-E to 106 or whatever now no problems, still hardlocked in Linx at 219 BCLK though :( guess i need to keep playing and see what i come up with :)
hopefully i got a good connection with the resistor, so hard to tell with those tiny solder points... but i imagine it wouldn't post if it didn't connect anyway?
Hi all.
I Need help.
The MoBo is not started if temperature below 27 degrees.
Who can make BIOS which on 25 degrees will shift temperature of NB?
It is necessary to receive at 27 degrees 50.
It to make really?
thanks hicookie , you rock !
Just wanted to give a thank you to Hicookie, got my ud5 modded & getting some nice overclocks & better benching. Finally getting extreme enough I don't feel too slow for this site...
Man, I wish that I knew someone that could do this hardmod for me.. I wouldn't even dare to attempt soldering something as small as those resistors.. :(
I can hardly see them, nevermind solder them!
hehe, tell me about it! I have the shakes and stuffed mine...
Hopefully they can fix it for me with the RMA, if not I will just buy another one or wait and see if the ex58a models will be released.
A quick question, would there be anyway of just using wiring and a hot glue gun to attach the wire to the solder points on the board then soldering the resistor to the actual wire?
Just trying to think of a more 'safe' way of doing it for next time.
Thanks for the e-mail hicookie ;)
I was wondering, could you just solder another resistor into the space, or do you have to move the one from the board?
Cookie can you send me the mod instructions and bios please? :D
I am not sure about Hot glue, I think that would not work. But you can solder wires then attach a resistor. I have seen it done here >>
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=789406
It could be any 1K ohm resistor, I found many 0402 exact ones on eBay if you wanted a exact replacement, but I think any would do if you connect it properly as seen in the above link
Thanks for that. I wasn't too sure if it would work or not but worth a shot.
Apparently my board has been sent overseas to Gigabyte according to the place I purchased it from...
Would you know anyone that works in the RMA section hicookie that could be able to repair at my cost?
Hi all.
hicookie, can you send me PM hard mod instructions/pics for the Ex58 Extreme
thanks
sorry for my bad english
Hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here.......
Bear with me this is my first few hours on an i7 rig....this is the max I can pull on stock cooler.
Modding board tommorow.
I noticed someone mentioned PCI E frequency? this is 104 PCI E.....no mod.....you have to boot 100 then reboot 101 then reboot......baby steps. No diff then my AMD giga ;)
here's a couple before mod shots.

good work
very nicely done for your first session on new gear
hey dinos22
do you have the pci mod? :D chew and i need em :D
you'll need to ask hicookie
he's the man heh
I just got an email from Gigabyte about my board.
$80 to fix
:D
Cannot wait to get it back!!!
Thanks for the PM to you know who :)
MOTHER FUKCER...those are so fukcking small..
hey [200] was that done in gigabyte usa?
hello guys!
I have problem with oc-ing my UD5, i7 920 D0 + TRUE, both lapped and OCZ 3x1GB 1600MHz Intel XMP LV.
There's no way to push bclk above 200MHz, no matter what i do. it just freezes at post screen or it won't boot at all. i crossflashed ud5 with EXm bios from page 4, but no luck, same problem. when i set pcie clock 105 or higher it also won't post with "6F" message on diag. gpu is ga 8800gts 512MB and psu ga odin pro 800w :)
PS I know my english sucks
enyone?
High IOH voltage can help push things as well demios, so try 1.3-1.4+ and see what you can get.
But as hicookie said it may be your CPU, if you can't do 222 without the mod then the mod wont really help. You need a good CPU to start with, before you even need to mod things
tnx guys, but no luck. 1.3v+ for IOH results in no post, or freezing the screen in win when using ET6
it looks like cpu has bclk wall :( so I'll ask my friend to bring me his D0 which works fine on 215 bclk on MSI x58 Pro E
but strange thing is that i owned C0 rev of cpu + also UD5 (not the same sample) and had the same problem. 200MHz works like a charm, but anything above...
My MoBo work 226 & 102 pci-e
228 & 103 pci-e
i swapped ud5 and d0 for ud3r rev 1.6 and another D0, and solved my problems, for now stable bclk is 225, pcie 103, me happy :)
Hello friends is a pleasure to share with you much I love this forum I now have X58 platform. But I'm stuck with bclk I failed to overcome the barrier of 222. Via air and reaches the ceiling, I'm ready to get started with extreme cooling with dry ice, I'm studying such as Isola besides plaque components using

Just ordered the UD3R and superbiiz confirmed all they have is revision 1.6 boards.
So, will I gain anything from the special BIOS posted earlier, or will the normal get me around 230BCLK?
I havent modded my board yet, but it can do 228 with pci 102. With ioh clock skew at 650 max was 226, increasing it to 750 got me to 228. Anyone else using this much ioh clock skew ?
(PM sent to hicookie)......does this hard mod work on ex58-ud3r "rev 1.0" my board wont stay stable above 200mhz bclk...i have a 920 D0
I guess superbiiz are liars. It came and is rev 1.0, and not only that, the box is beat up. Looks used, or at the very least, a refurb or returned.
your doing better then me i can boot up @ 210mhz bclk x20 multi "21x with turbo enabled"...but nothings stable above 200mhz (4.2ghz)....so im still waiting on hicookie to send me hard mod directions and bios..hopefully i have the luck others are having with the mod :) id be thrilled to get 4.4ghz stable on my 920 D0 to feed the HD5850 i plan to get soon when overclocked editions with better heat sinks hit the market and drivers mature a little...not to mention no one has one in stock
Still can get vcore lower, at 1.36 in BIOS, about 1.33 actual. VTT wont go under 1.395 though. Ive gotten 4.3HT stable as well, but Im waiting for my ram fan to come so I can get my ram over 2050Mhz, as they wont do it at 1.65V.

Hi all......
remove only resistor and not resolder my mainboard ud5 x58 work or not.????????
THX.....
Sorry for my bad english....:(
http://pic.ipicture.ru/uploads/091018/1VxnSv5ORV.jpg
Many thanks, really work. Today has made it, 238 on the bus mother could take, before only 228 and all.
Is that the same mod for the UD3R revision 1?
hicookie please check your PM. thanks
Is that mod possible without any risks, I mean for normal using the board after benching?
Does it influence anything?
Is anybody here, who could explain the mod?
Sure. But what do you mean with explain? I think the above images speak for themself
How did you push the solder out and how in?
