Yea ..... I need to learn how to type again too I think. :ROTF:

Any pics of the hole rig yet?
Or are you still having problems?
Soon! :d
Yeh just waiting on those EK blocks to be nickel plated, then I can get it all back up and running.
I am going across to the other side of the country on Sunday however, for some job interviews (wish me luck), which means most likely no photos for another week. Depends really. But one of the biggest extra mods I've done definitely won't be ready by the end of the week, so it will have to wait until I get back before I unveil it. :)
Thanks :D i'm excited, sad, nervous and many other emotions. :O
Good luck Dream, knock em dead ;)
Well here are some updates guys!
Sorry for the crap photos, just took them last night in the bad light!

http://members.iinet.net.au/~dreamax...mosfet-n-2.jpg
http://members.iinet.net.au/~dreamax...hed/mobo-1.jpg
I'll try to get some better ones today, just trying desperately to work out a way to route the tubing without kinks! Difficult with this Tygon stuff.
What crap photos? I can only see those newly posted gems.
:)
Is that Mosfet block from the first photo seated right Dream? It looks like it isn't sitting right in that photo.
LOL your crap photo is still better than my good photo :(
You could always just use D-Plugs and hard line it. ;)
I think it's OK :S As you know I have issues with the fit of BOTH blocks.
Yeh I just hope my motherboard doesn't explode the first time I turn it on! :O
Just noticed you signature.
Very touching i must say.Quote:
I felt you in my legs, before I even met you
I felt you in my life before I ever thought to
I feel you in my heart and I don't even know you
And now we're saying bye. Bye bye!

I'm here for you girl if needed
How did your job interview go?
No picks of your completed rig yet? :p:
Haha, yeh the job interviews went well thanks, and I will be moving to the other side of the country in about a month... Hmm... Yeh I guess I am a bit sad about it, I'll be leaving behind a very special person :( But the career has to come first I'm afraid. Sucks growing up!
Hopefully can get this project finished this week!
O wow, that really sucks. Well hopefully he can follow soon  Well at least you got yourself a job. ;)
Now get us more pretty pics :p:
Where are you going?
Gold Coast Momi - won't be far from you!
D=
Yayayayayayayayay
[At least you won't have the cold mornings up here]
Haha... I do love it over there. So beautiful. Love the rainforests, and the beaches. And the warm :) Can't believe how nice the weather was there. Chilly nights, but crystal blue days. It's quite nice here in Perth now though, just to make me wistful.
Updates really really really soon guys! :D :D
Been building all night, everything is together now pretty much, just a couple more things to do (including waiting on some sleeving to arrive from Germany, which will take a week). Once the last 6 pin PCI-E cable is sleeved, there will be the unveiling :) Actually I might just put up some pics with the ugly 6 pin haha. Just so you guys can see what I've been up to.
Can't wait to show you how it is looking. IT IS SO HEAVY! I can BARELY lift it :O Feeble female.
I'm eagerly awaiting photos. Your's is one of the nicest tj-07s I've seen.
Just resizing some photos, and letting it bleed for a few hours :) Photos of the finished build up very soon! Well nearly finished, just need some sleeving to finish it off!
Sweet! Finishing photos will at least include one picture with a feline juxtaposed, right? :)
Purple Power!
First post updated! Right at the end of the very first post. TBH, I think I will put finished pics at the end, first post is wayyyyy too long :)
Do both for sure! I really like that aspect of your log (the first big post). I think it's a good idea though ban cap users would certainly appreciate both.
I was planning on eventually making my 1st posts in such a manner in addition with updating as I go along.
I thought it would be more organised, and save people having to trawl through pages and pages of posts to see how the build progresses (I know that annoys me sometimes).
But it means one giganta-post when it is the culmination of a 7mth build like this one is! And yes, I am sure the people with a set amount of quota don't appreciate it :D
it all comes together. very nice.
i like the powder coates slots and the purple fluid. the picture from the top is also a very nice view. congrats dream
Looks Good...
Any UV action shots with the lights off?
Looking good dream. That cover on the dvd-rom drive looks even better when you see it all together. Can't wait for the finished shots
I'll get some action shots tonight, I hadn't plugged the mobo in yet when I took those pics ;)
and all this time I have been looking at the most recent posts and wondering "whereare the pictures ???"  looking great dreamaxx! :)
Can anyone help me, I'm trying to find that post I think by Skinnee about series pumps? Had some good graphs in it etc. Was it comparing series versus parallel and also dual pump tops? Would much appreciate if someone could chuck me the link coz I can't find it using search :(
Purple is a nice color :D
this is coming out really nice! you are really utilizing BP fittinsg to their fullest potential, it would seem
Yep, almost as much of a BP fittings whore as shazza :) perhaps just as much in this build :D Thanks for those fittings shaz, as you can see they're very happy in their new home :D
Looks fantastic Nat!
The drivebay area is really exceptional... well done.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the final pics! :)
Must have missed this update while I was away. That looks awesome!! Will you be lighting up the top acrylic panel? I think that would make the stars stand out more.
Can't wait for the finished photos.
Ugh I have this issue right now with memory leak - this process audiodg.exe just using up ALL my ram. Something to do with Vista 64x and Xfi not being compatible coz Creative refused to make proper drives for Vista for whatever reason. So I basically have to turn all the after effects off that the sound card does in order to stop it. Super annoying :(
Does ANYONE know a proper fix for this? I've trawled through google, and the only "fix" i've found is to disable all sound blaster enhancements.
Yes. Remove card. Smash repeatedly with large hammer. :bsod:
Seriously though, use on-board sound or buy something not made by Creative. Its unlikely you can tell the difference between the on-board or the extra card. But if you must, both Asus and Auzentech make excellent sound cards that have far less issues in Vista.
BTW, excellent build.
LOL maxx, where were you during the Creative forum floods? Basically a lot of people went there and complained when Creative threatened to sue a guy who had made his own drivers to make Creative products work on Vista. The stuff was hilarious.
Solution - sell card, buy something else [that isn't Creative or based on their models]. Asus to the rescue.
Guys, Don't blame Creative for refusing to write sub standard drivers for their cards so they would work with M$'s sub standard OS.;)
Everyone else did, why can't creative? Oh that's right they want you to buy some other product blah blah blah.
TBH Creative probably didn't think it through... I wonder how many customers they lost because they were so stubborn.
FFUUUUUUUUU.... Had my first mishap... Hard gaming session, didn't realise the fans had TURNED OFF on my radiators (supposedly controlled by my scythe fan controller). Bastard thing has just randomly stopped working. Computer overheated a LOT, as in blocks too hot to touch, smelled very very hot inside the case, scary as all hell. I turned the thing off as quickly as I could (it had blue screened to warn me though) and shoved a massive fan onto the whole thing and left it for a while. That is the second time this idiot fan controller has done something bad. I have no idea why, but I can't check ALL the wiring to the fan controller very well unless I pull my entire PC apart to do so (I have all the molex cables and plugs hidden underneath EVERYTHING. From what I can see it is all plugged in as it should be, I will check the plug which goes into the PSU tomorrow but that's about it.
I have had enough of the problems this bloody scythe controller has caused me... I am going to change to something more reliable like the aquero or the bigNG or even the koolance TMS-200 if the problems have been ironed out of it... I need something that is going to TURN OFF my PC if the fans fail. The reason I had turned off the beep warning on the stupid scythe controller was because the damn thing would go off all the time even though the fans were fine. And that got incredibly annoying after a while. This has almost cost me my PC, and I hope to god there is not permanent damage. I'm not sure how to check, everything seems to be working ok, but does anyone have any ideas on how I can check. There is a yellow light on my motherboard that wasn't there before, not sure what it means, will look it up in the morning.
Anyway! What do you guys suggest I get? I really like the Aquero, but I have the koolance flow meter and a bitspower temp sensor... Not sure if they will work with the aquero, but i don't think the BP temp sensor works correctly with the TMS... Any and ALL recommendations are greatly appreciated, please send them my way! (PS, I have very limited space for this controller to sit, so if you can tell me how big they are, i.e. if it will fit in a 3.5" bay etc. then that would be wonderful too). I am off to do some research!!
PS... If everyone reckons the Aquero is the best, then I will use the koolance flow sensor in my other PC, and stick an aquero one in Pegasus...
Sorry to hear about your problem... hopefuly everything turns out of for the best. Did you have the temp shutdown setup on your motherboard..?
This example of the fan controller failing has me thinking of creating some sort or fail over system where I would control two sets of fans on two seperate controllers. Just in case on goes down the other one has the possibility of still working, instead of relying on a single unit.
I was looking into the TMS200, but from what i've seen it seems buggy at the moment and maybe waiting for it to mature. The aquaero looks better since they added that powerboost functionality to it. Can't wait to see what you choose so it at least give me more input on both. I have the aquaero at the moment , but have been able to use it and its the older revision.
NEED TO RAGE MORE. The following not for young eyes.
PIECE OF :banana::banana::banana: SCYTHE :banana::banana::banana:ING :banana::banana::banana:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better not have messed up ANYTHING or I swear to god I will KILL IT!!!!!!
In other news, I am probably leaning towards the Aquero and getting the flow meter etc that goes with it. It has hardware shut down on any kind of failures that are programmed right into it, which is definitely a win for me. The TMS is nice, but I'd love to have an LCD screen.
Sounds good....hope to see ur finalised outcome for that...
:)
Sorry 'bout the troubles. I'm happy with the aquaero. Know I won't be going back to the Scythe fan controllers anytime soon - just too delicate.
Silver TJ07 + water cooling + purple coolant = win. You just did all my favorite things in one computer. Now I'll have to copy you...
That sucks dream :( Hope everything is ok. :yepp:
Where is Shoggy :D
Ugh, my previously linx stable 20 passes overclock is now not stable... WTF, I'm so pissed off that stupid :banana::banana::banana:ing fan controller has ruined my system. does anyon know anything i can do, to check what else has been :banana::banana::banana:ed up by this? i mean, i've obviousy degraded the CPU some now because of the overheat.... what else should I check?
I just want to check what and if anything else is :banana::banana::banana:ed... I wish i could tell what temperature everything got to, but i can only tell by what i touched and the general feeling in the case (HOT). But i can imagine some air cooled systems would get that hot easily though...
From what I've read, it's not heat that kills a CPU, it's electromigration.
CPU's are faced with extreme heat at the fabrication. :)
Actually a very knowledgeable friend of mine reckons the PWMs may have been fried.... Does ANYONE else have anything they can add? How can I troubleshoot? Help!!! HALP!!!
Hey Nat ... sorry about all the issues. Okay, from what I understand, your issue is the fan controller went belly up and you didn't notice the fans weren't running until it was hot - but it didn't shut down - you got the blue screen, then all Hell broke lose (just imagining your reaction).
Now, you aren't able to get the same OC you had before? Does it run okay at stock settings? Just trying to sort out which trouble shooting steps you've gone through so far.
I know you want to know if anything is damaged ... have you definitively identified any other problems yet?
Yep, it's random as well Shaz. basically the first time I tried linx testing it after last night, it got to 18 passes, and i had just moved my mouse to click on PC probe to look at mobo temps and as I did that it BSOD again. I was like, WTF was that me or did it properly fail (CPU temps using real temp were beautiful at just over 60 degrees)? So I did it again, it didn't even finish one pass before it BSOD. So I said, WTF you have to be kidding me you got to 18 passes last time. So I tried linx again, and this time it did 3 passes and then just failed (no BSOD that time). So I spoke to my computer guru guy here, who thinks I've fried the PWMs. It would make sense if it isn't regulating voltage properly for it to almost pass linx one time, and then fail before the first pass the second right?
Anyways, it has passed linx fine at stock settings. But stock settings is not why I bought this overclockers motherboard, and the bloody Xeon CPU. I am not 100% sure the CPU is fine, but my guru thinks that CPUs can take punishment, the only thing that could possibly be damaged is the memory controller. He wants me to try putting it in a friends motherboard and seeing if I can still run it at 4.2ghz 1.28v. But I have to find a friend with i7 first, I only know of one acquaintance.
Anyways, my guru reckons I should RMA the motherboard at the very least, he reckons it is damaged, whether the CPU is also damaged remains to be seen. What I don't understand though, is that I don't reckon this stuff got as hot as it could have if it was just being air cooled. I mean, the pump was still running, it was still pushing the water round, and while the water had got hot, surely it would have been helping somehow? Obviously not I suppose, it's f*cked :( But I touched the CPU block straight after, it was bloody hot, but not burning hot, as in, I could hold my fingers on it. But as soon as I took the side off the case I knew it was ridiculously hot in there, and i was FFFFUUUUUUUUUing, and rushing around getting a big fan to blow on everything to cool it down etc. etc.
But get this, between those linx tests, I ran Vantage, and I got a higher score than the last time I ran it. WTF? I'm assuming my video cards are all fine in that case? I wasn't watching closely enough, but would I see artifacting if the vid cards were unhappy?
PS... F*CK THAT SCYTHE FAN CONTROLLER TO HELL! I wish I'd listened to you Shaz when you said you wouldn't use it again after it didn't work for you either. Ugh. Why do I never listen?
PPS... Do you use an aquero and does it do hard shutdowns if fans/pumps/flow stops?
I'm no hardware expert, but I'd guess you're friend is right. Problem is probably somewhere on the motherboard not the CPU. Sounds like the GPUs are fine, as you would see some artifacting or shutdowns if they were damaged.
I'd try the following before doing the RMA, if you haven't already:
1) Take out the memory ... reseat it. Maybe try one stick at a time.
2) Remove the CPU ... reseat it
3) And, obviously, sounds like you have already gone back to stock BIOS settings and redone your OC. Did you go up gradually in steps, or jump right back to 4.2? Just curious.
4) While this has nothing to do with anything, when I'm desparate, I always take out the Motherboard battery, let it sit for a few hours, then start over. Sounds crazy, but it's helped once or twice.
5) And finally, if you can verify your CPU is fine (even if you can't), I'd get ready to RMA that motherboard.
What will removing and reseating those things do Shaz? I don't see why it would make a difference? Sorry I'm not trying to say it isn't worth doing, just questioning what that does that's all... I hadn't tried to redo the OC, just had it at the settings that previously worked perfectly. Then just dropped it straight back to stock and haven't changed it at all since.
Wow, that is an incredible build!!...just finished looking at the pics.
btw...it is not unusual to fail linx at 18th pass once, then fail it much earlier if run quickly afterwards. Also not that unusual after a while to require 1 or 2 notches higher qpi/vtt or vcore to once again be stable after first getting cpu, then it usually stays stable, several of mine have done that, even ones I havent abused. In testing cpus for realtemp, I have had both my i7's running with nothing attached to IHS, typically it shuts itself down around 115 to 120C core and ~110C IHS. If temp rises slowly, sometimes will shut off lower temps if throttling fails. Have pretty much done that with most of my cpus without issue. Also doubt motherboard got any hotter than running on air as you mentioned. I have ran mine quite a bit without fans, crashing cpu/gpu many times...just playing with temps, and watching how cpu consumes more watts at same settings as temps increased (cpu is less efficient with power as temps increases). Never hurt anything on mine...yet anyways.
I would first try bumping up vcore couple notches and if that did not help, then qpi/vtt, before breaking everything down to rma, etc.
Also you can set real temp to shutdown pc if gpu temps or cpu temps get too high, whatever you set them at.
And I also have had issues with my scythe controller, one of the best simple feature wise and love the lcd readout, but even though it says it is rated for 1 amp, the crappy components get very hot and fry easy with much less than that. I wish sunbean's extreme reliable one came with rpm readout/lcd screen.
Interesting information there rge... Let me think on what you've said for a little bit...
LOL ... remember - I said I'm no expert. So, I can't say any of these will "fix" it. Just the things I've tried in the past when I thought I killed something (where I do have some expertise :yepp:). Also gives you something productive to do instead of sitting there fuming ;)
Thank god for mini-beast HTPC. Means I don't have to be computerless. I fly to Gold coast on Thursday, the removalists are coming to get all my stuff on Wednesday afternoon, I don't think Pegasus will be fixed for a good few weeks!
Dreamaxx: May the force be with you! :)
yes, good luck with the move. pack it up good and keep an eye on kitties
Thanks guys, will miss you when I'm internetless for a while! :)
Good luck dreamaxx on getting everything back together
thanks :)
Happy and safe moving:surf:
join us again soon.
Dreamaxx, I hope your move is problem-free. Come back when you get settled and let's figure out how to resurrect your rig, mkay?
I hate it when nice rigs go BAD !! anyway I hope for you an easy move and for your rig to come to life again :D
Hey guys, well I'm here in sunny Queensland and it is lovely. Start work tomorrow. Still trying to find a house but I suppose that'll take time to find something that suits me! Hoping that Pegasus can be up and running asap, but all depends on things getting repaired/replaced and when he arrives here! Just thought I'd keep in touch with you all!
Congrats on the move! And wait, Pegasus is a boy ????
Of course Pegasus is a boy! :) I don't like girls :D haha ;) except you of course Shaz.. us nerd-modding-girls need to stick together :D
I would like to see you keep the bottom of the Heatkiller Copper and Nickel everything else.Copper is a better heat conductor than Nickel and IMHO you take something away from it when you cover it,besides nobody will be able to see bottom of block anyway. That is one sweet rig you have and keep up the good work.
she nickel plated the bottom of the block as well. i dont think it'll make *that* much difference being nickel plated or not.
Wow, an Aussie modding girl that loves Pegasus! Peeing my pants to see more! Hope all is working out.
Soon! :) Just trying to work out what monitoring stuff is best for this build at the moment. Will be getting some new hardware for fans and pump soon regardless!
Heya Nat, hows sunny qld treating ya :P
I would reply on ocau but some little kid who can't tale any criticism for being a clone got me a 24hr ban
Ahaha some little poohead got me banned too, just for calling them an idiot when they were insulting me! Hehe :) Don't you love the immature people there?
Dream, what ever happened to the fan controller? So far the sunbeam rheobus extreme I use is running 6 high power/ cfm fans pretty good. Only problem is that it comes in blue. Which I had to mod to red.
There are several things I like about your build:
1. The name (unique and refreshingly different)
2. The acrylic plate you had made
3. The dye in your water loop -- who would have though purple could look so good?
4. your pictures really capture the spirit of the build
5. that it is taking 7 months you said? That inspires me for my build because I lost a PSU... So I'm anxious and upset that I can't show the progress off.
Edit: I noticed you have a ROG board too (sweet!). Did you turn on the CPU temp monitor in your BIOS? I think that would help if overheating ever happens again...
Hey Vinas, this build is now 9 months in the making, but only because I've moved from one side of Australia to the other right when I broke it and that has slowed me down a lot. I am still waiting for the motherboard to come back from repair so I can start putting it back together. I don't want to use fan controllers ever again! I am going to go with either the Aquaero or the Koolance TMS-200, but I think because the Aquaero has more channels it will suit this build better. It is just a matter of fitting it somewhere!
wow dont you just hate it when your inches from the finish line.... then it fails epicly.... in your case you were finished!!!! well at least we all know what company we shouldnt buy fan controllers from now... (*cough*Scythe*cough*)...
anyways looks amazing and good luck with your build and your move!
uh oh hope you knocked on wood right after you posted that!!!!! jkjk i have no beef against scythe, just me being a conspiracy theorist.... (they are out to get us if we dont use scythe fans!!!!!) haha
Hey Dream,
How did the move go? Have you got yourself settled in now?
Looking forward to seeing the rebirth of Pegasus. :yepp:
Went alright, it was just hideously expensive. Not sure how I'm going to afford the TMS-200/Aquaero but I suppose that's what credit cards are for :)
id say dont do it, but that would be horribly hypocritical of me.
well... if you have any experience in electronics, you could build your own fan controller using the parts you have from your broken scythe... linky... To make it look nice you can drill holes in a project box and holes in your drive bays then put it in there. Its a lot cheaper and you can also test it if your not sure. all you need to know is how to solder...
*edit found one a lot easier... http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2001...peed_control/1
Something tells me she doesn't want anything to do with that old scythe. :(
Could always run it with fan controllers till you get the extra money, or just break out the plastic. :)
Glad to hear the move went alright.
haha i wouldnt either. Im thinking of doing the second thing that i posted, which can be put onto a fan extension and then hooked up to a fan. that is pretty easy just a little soldering and cutting into a project box...
