I've had my system boot at 197 (when set at 200) quite often, not sure why but figured it was a bios issue and didnt pay any extra attention to it, havent seen it since i switched to bios 1102.Quote:

EDIT: Well got it all set up, so far I think this may be the best bios out yet. I would have issues with all the previous version with my dell perc 5/i raid card, but this bios seems rock solid with it. With older bios version sometimes windows would say that the raid card failed to start or whatever in device manager after a soft reset, even though the card was detected during post. But I have restarted windows about 20 times just trying to get it to do that again and it hasnt done it once. Also so far it was not messed up on the FSB starting below 200 yet, everytime I have booted it has been 200.7. Before I flashed to this bios it kept starting up at 193 and would not change. So far seems stable to me :)
Little update. I had been restarting my computer from within windows and my perc 5/i was detected in windows every time no problem. Then I decided to go into the bios just to see what it says the temp is, i then told it to save settings (didnt change anything though) and reboot. When my computer came to windows my perc 5/i "failed to start", so i restarted again within windows, and it would not come back. I ended up have to shut down the computer, unplug the perc from my system, turn it on and let it get back to windows, shut it down, and then plug the perc back in. So this bios is certainly better then all the other bios revisions when it comes to the dell perc 5/i, but its still not perfect. I really hope that ASUS is able to completely iron out this issue with the perc 5i/6i.
I had some time to check the voltage at the point that you specified. The vdroop is indeed massive. With a requested 1.60v I get 1.58v at idle dropping to 1.54v at the lowest in linpak. I see 1.64v in Everest at idle, and 1.60v under load, so it appears as though a correction factor of .06v can be used to determine the actual core voltage from Windows.Quote:

Hmm yah I wouldn't worry to much about that jumper unless your on LN2....the board tends to overvolt when you go over 1.635v.....1.75v is more than enough for air,water or DI.....as thats what I measured on DI with jumper off and voltage at 1.7 maxxed in bios...moving it makes not one diff, just unlocks higher voltage in bios.....up to 1.9....speaking of which I ran out of voltage under LN2 :shakes:
I'm running 1.6125 at the moment. It gets me 1.59 at idle and still 1.54 under load. The jump from 1.60 to 1.6125, in spite of not showing any higher on my DMM, did improve clocks a touch. I was able to get another 15Mhz with it at the higher of the two. Perhaps the two decimal places on my cheapo DMM aren't telling the whole story.Quote:

Yah the asus is really partial to the IC's that were used in the OCZ reaper/ plat lines and I was fortunate enough to get some failed ones in a gold kit that do very well.
i need help guys, i have the m4a79 and a PII 940, right now my best clock is 3500/2600nb/2000ht, vcore 1.475 bios /1.503 everest .
i have tried with and without acc, i have tried slowing my ram, what am i missing,
rest of the system is 8gb corsair dominator, corsair 850w psu.
watercooled at this voltage and speed my prime temp after about 3 hours is 110f.
im also wondering how the acc options work there +/- xxx %? whats all that about?

I have 8 gigs of 1066MHz memory running at 5-5-5-15 2.22V. Everything else is stock, at first I thought it might be the 8 gigs running at 1066, so I took out 2 sticks, and dropped it down to 800MHz, and still nothing, I still have to up the Vcore way more then I would like to even get it stable at 3.4GHz.
try raising the Cpu VDDA voltage to 2.7v it helped my voltage droop.

Ok I upped the vdda voltage to 2.7, and now with the vcore set to 1.4875 in the bios, everest reports that the vcore in windows is at 1.50, and when I put it under load with prime95 using all cores the vcore drops down to 1.46.
Vcore=1.4875
CPU/NB=1.3625
CPU VDDA=was at auto, now at 2.7
Dram=2.24
HT=1.22
NB=1.12
SB=1.35
as posted above raise your NB to 1.2v and if u have clocked your NB any i would run the cpu/nb to 1.2875v my NB is at 2639mhz at that voltage..
i use the turbo v to test settings in windows then run prime. after i find a setting that helps ill set it in the bios to confirm that it boots with the setting, did you turn off the c&Q in the bios? also did you turn off the secure virtual machine? might help.

Maybe your CPU just sucks. I need 1.55V to get OCCT stable at 3.6. Then again I swear I had it at 3.8 with 1.55V when I first got it... picture and all. No idea what happened.
I tried reading Vcore with my DMM and messing with the VDDA... did nothing for me.

Btw, anyone experienced random USB drop-outs on this board? It started a few days ago for me, and nothing has helped so far. That includes running stock. But when I think about it, I got a new 5.1 system recently, and running it from the onboard circuit. Could it possibly have anything to do with USB ports dropping out? I’d assume 5.1 puts more stress on the circuit than a regular 2 speaker setup. Extra heat messing up the SB? Anyone seen similar behavior in the past?
in everest ultimate my benches for memory read and write were around 8500 using a 36gig raptor...ive now used a raid 0 setup using 2 80 gig wd sata drives and hd tach reads faster but when i bench using everest my write speed drops to like 6000....
im using the asus m4a79 dlx with 7750 dual core o/clocked to 3.1 ...im using 4/1 gig sticks ocz ddr2 1066....im confused as to why write speed has dropped..all other benches seem to be at or faster than before using the single raptor...any ideas or is this normal....ive not run a raid zero setup before......
Did you try any benching with the 80gb drives before raiding them? My guess would be that the 80gb drives are just slower than the raptor, even when raided. But its just a guess :)Quote:

Just for the record my NB is totally stable with 1.16v? Even at 230+ FSB. Testing 1.14v now as i explore the minimum. Dunno where the 1.25+v came from but it does nothing for my system even heavily overclocked. Maybe its for much higher FSB's then im running?
Raid 0 working perfectly here w/o any drop in benches. 100min / 125max mbs There is a HDperformance patch at AMD one can use if so inclined.

The "cpu extra-ov" slider is sweet, helped with vdrops a lot. Have to play around with it some more, but so far it seems very promising. :)
CPU extra-OV does not work for me. It sets back to zero every time I hit apply. Also, the NB multi option is useless because it requires a reboot.
The CPU OV is in 0.1v steps, so make sure you move it far enough, or it will go back to zero :)Quote:

i tried to move the CPU OV slider too, moved to 1 and fell back to 0, then i moved it to 3 and the comp rebooted, lol

yeah when i set the CPU OV to .1 it went down to 0 when i hit apply, so I moved it up to .2 and hit apply it went down to .1 Also it doesnt seem to stay when I reboot my computer, anyone know how to make it permanent?

FoxRacR17, there should be a option somewhere that allows you to load your last settings at boot.
I think i found the setting wez, I click on preformance, then on settings, and under misc there is an option that says "apply my last settings when system boots" and I have that checked, hit apply, and then change the cpu ov so its a .1, then hit apply again, and then ok. Restarted my computer and the cpu ov is back at 0
Im running a raid 0 setup with this board and 1303 ran fine but since i installed 1402 it crashes loading vista on the raid array...tryed bios defaults and made sure all settings in bios were correct and every time no matter what the settings are i get a crask...it happens when the loading bar is running across the screen...
went back to 1303 and all is good...i o/clock using bios so aod isnt really a concern but was hoping with later bios updates the voltage settings would be more accurate as far as setting it at 1.3 and actually having it at 1.3 and having auto setting would be somewhere close to what amd specifies default voltages to be for a particular cpu...
not having owned a dfi board im considering a 790gx or 790fx board due to the fact from what ive read that they are spot on with voltage settings..anyone have any input on voltage settings for the asus m4a79 dlx and also if the dfi boards have spot on settings for voltage......
well what can i say, i am having or was having rather, major issues with 1402,
for the first time since i got this board i was getting BSOD's, when shutting down crysis and IE, also it wouldnt allow sleep mode.
it seems very rough around the edges somehow, so i lfashed back to 1303 and all is well again.
ill be sticking with 1303 util they release another :up:
Is there a Vdroop mod for this board? Voltage seems to droop real bad under Prime 95 causing the system to reboot. :(

Anyone noticed the chip to the right of the memslots (outlined red) becoming very hot?
I can only hold my finger for about 5 seconds on it at most. (60ºC+ i guess)
Also the chokes and caps outlined red in the pwm area become very hot, i have to admit i don't have any casefans though.

1402 works great here, vdroop is still present. I have to set 1.41v to get 1.36 for example. Even with really good cooling my board flakes out with anything over 1.425 as set in bios. Going water soon so ill at least then be able to see if its heat or just really crappy pwm.
I read somewhere that the heatsink is not properly attached on pwm. Does it happen on few mobos or is more common thing?

you really need to get those areas covered with a fan or two, i allways have both those areas cooled by air, especially to fetsand chokes area, heres a pic of what its doing at the moment. both areas barely get above 35 degrees C, 40 on a hot dayQuote:

1403 seems great. I can confirm cmd rate 1 is applicable now. NB is less flakey as well.

Allrighty cellshocks will not do 1000 4-4-4 with even 2.3v, couldn't even get into windows 1202 bios......My gigabyte will 32m with just 1000 4-4-4-10 set and 2.2v.......

Well I settled on 1303 myself.......1202 has issues.....will pass memtest and hardlock in windows....
1402/3 seems to have borked the timings.........and 1303 although I don't think its up to par is probably the most reliable.........1102 does not work correctly with PH II 955.........
Still can't do 1000 4-4-4, and I used this same cpu and ram on another board and it could at least pass 32mPI with just setting speed 4-4-4-10 undervolted by .1 and go..........
Get to work asus....seems you guys have a bit of polishing up to do.....
I tryed the 1403 bios after having alot of issues with 1402..
1403was better but buggy so went back to 1303 and ill have to agree with chew it seems to be the best and most stable at least on my system with the 7750be...
I sure wish asus would work on the cpu vcore voltage issue...i dont understand why when you set voltage to a certain spec its always alot higher than what ive set..
this issue dosent seem to me it would be hard to correct with a bios update....
im holding off right now to see the new dual cores and lower wattage x3 and x4's coming out next month....
living in florida heat is always an issue down here even with the air conditioner cooling things off....
ive always thought asus was the most stable of boards as the ones ive owned have been great but ill have to say this board has been a bit of a disapointment for me...
I wonder now if i should have gone with a gigabyte board as i almost did....spending 200$ on a board and having such issues for so long now dosent build alot of confidence..
wouldnt you think with the 8+2 phase control this board would have very little vdroop and voltages would be spot on......
