CSX DDR3 arrived: Diablo 2000MHz & CEC 1333MHz kits first look

I ran these at 2GHz (8-7-6-19-T1) with 1.96 in BIOS, and tested them for 20- maybe 30 minutes at 2,06V in BIOS to see how high they would run at stock-latencies. That's it. Also, they weren't even getting warm, but still I had a fan over them.

How do I know it's the mainboard? Except that it's obvious, it's also a know issue with NVIDIA-chipsets.. Before it became news one or two weeks ago I was told by someone from OCZ that Asus was going to take the 790i Ultra out of production soon - supposedly for these kinds of issues.

Any problems with these Diablo's on a Rampage Extreme?

nVidia chipsets are bad, that has been known for years. If you get working sample, you're lucky. After 3 samples i get one that actually works and i use it for testing sometimes. Haven't killed anything, no data corruption, works like charm. Intel chipsets are a lot better, but takes skill, knowledge and time to tweak it.

Can things like going from 1.90 to 1.94 then 1.92 and so kill the memory? Cause thats what is happening to most boards, but this is the second or third time I hear a pair of memory died, specially Diablo, with so many reviews and people saying that even at 2.1 the heatspreaders were not even close to warm.

Ok, first 1.96 would really be 2.08 and 2.04 at load (considering your striker also overvolts), it is still under the 2.1 mark, but Im pretty sure people here would agree more than 2.0 is taking a risk (I wouldnt run my RAM higher than 1.95 anyways).

Thats the main reason why I want this kit, I should be able to run it at 1.86 BIOS (1.94 real, 1.90 in load) at 1800Mhz 8-7-6-18 with no problems while keeping the memory safe on the voltage. Just in case, Im planning on putting a OCZ Memory fan on top of them.

According to the BIOS & Everest my S2E's vDimm of 1.96V was exactly 2V, so as far as I know I always ran 'em at factory specs. Besides that they (or mine) really needed a minimum of 'real' 1.98V to run at 2GHz 8-7-6-19 T1. Though I set them to 2V 'real' just for that little bit of extra security/stability.

On the up, my problems are being solved atm; I can swap my faulty S2E for a RE at my shop, & CSX will RMA my Diablo's.. :up:

So all in all just another experience to add to the heap..

Well, I dont want to make a deal out of this, but IMO 2.00 shouldnt be a 24/7 on DDR3, specially if you have Micron inside your memory. Thats my opinion.

If I had to run more than 1.90, 1.95 would be my deadline, of course with fans on top.

Of course, I do this to avoid RMAs. Since you guys live in Europe and CSX is located there, your worries about RMAing are less than people like me who live in US and RMAing CSX would take longer than if CSX was in US.

Dude, just loading 2 X 2 Diablo's 2000 mhz in a Rampage Extreme. Had a heck of a time getting them to boot and allow me to load Vista 64. Finally went with mem at 1600 mhz, used memory feature. stock loose timings (9's, Perf Level 8). It put the E8600 @ 4.00 ghz. Temp 34 & 37 C Just going to put in the second stick now as trying to get it going with both in wasn't working. All the best with your sticks.

no its retail, GTR is out of, so new 2x1 kits has GTS now :)
yesterday tested a bit with it on P45 (P5Q3) and it goes really well...

Ordered 2x1GB kit, i hope they will be good with this Rampage Extreme, the results i see here make me drool. :)

Mine are dying on a Rampage Extreme. They did 2000+ MemTest86+ 10 passes when I got them, now they hardly hold up at 1800..

At what voltage?

Well all the ROG Motherboards are known to be overvolting the RAM, so if u put in 1.90 in BIOS, it really is 1.96. Just imagine if you think you are running your RAM at 2.00....

I ran 'em under factory-specs (2.125V) at 1.98V max 24/7.

The Striker II Extreme overvolted .04 to .05V, the Rampage X doesn't.., it's spot on.

That's what i thought, both the LCD poster and Asus Probe show about the same what i set in bios.

Didn't measure with DMM though,maybe someone can point me to the measure point for Vdimm?

Well, I know for sure I will put fans on top of them (OCZ RAM Fan)
Also, I will run them no higher than 1.90 (1.84 in BIOS)

But max cas 7 was a bit disappointed, only 1010 for my best stick ( 1003 for the other one) [7-6-6-15-1T with 2.2v] and not benchable :(

its also depending on your board tomati, you need a good board to bench 1g+ cl7

but ya the sticks are amazing

Try 7-6-5-18 not 7-6-5-15 at 2GHz+. These IC's doesn't like very low TRAS at high speeds. And yes, good board and lots of voltage for MCH is a must for 2GHz cl7.

Running 900 7-6-5-18 atm, 32M stable with 2.05V, haven't tried higher but will tonight.

Now I can bench my D9GTR kit @ 2000 7-6-6-18-1T with 2.2v till SPI 2M at 4M I got an error in a bound

Maybe some tweaking could help but I don't have the vref option in my premium bios :shrug:

I give up at 1.67v, I have a 120 mm fan over it but don't like so much voltage on NB .

I even tried to relaxing the PL till to 10 but gain nothing ( error or freeze)

Some improvement but I think I have an heat issue, I was able to pass the 4M with 1.69v on NB but 8M get a freeze, I just push my fan to it's max 1350 rpm instead of 800 rpm ( yate loon 120mm on NB and an other one on the Ram)

1.75v was the max I have tried but my heatpipe was really hot and the 2M allready frozen so I slow it down to 1.71v and still failed in 4M.

Never been able to run the 8M, got freeze before end, I need to try with a powered fan on NB .

My kit is GTR but runs nicely 900 7-6-5-18 with 2.05V, will try lower voltage later. :)

The board seems to be acting up on me with high (550+) FSB and cas 7, i have to investigate what's wrong.

Succeeded on 8M now, this was with a slipstream 1900 rpm (110 cfm rated) on NB at 1.71v . It was well a heat issue .

My P5E3 premium seems to run really hot when I push the NB voltage over 1.6v / 1.65v.

impressive... i'll take 3 sets...

looks like these will become legendary... anyone able to get hold of these in the uk....

I stopped at 1.83v on NB as I didn't get much improvement (16M failed).

I didn't changed the paste as the heat transfer seems to work fine but maybe should I give it a try.

No cooler replacement as my TRUE wont let me choose other PWM heatsink as I'm running it in Push/Pull.

(Gets a panic attack after seeing these results)

okay tomati, altought swiftech mc14s will go likely anywhere and work quite awesome

I think i found some stabilty now at 600 FSB, just needed 400 strap and plenty of volts on the mem, much more than with lower FSB. :shrug:

The ram is nice though. :)

with higher fsb u will get the performance better, still if memory is running same speed, so common you need higher vdimm, because you will more burden on your memory

I'm so desperate to found them in 2gb ( 2 * 1gb) kit that I wonder if I will order them or not, Is this harder to (over)clock the 2 * 2gb kit over the 2*1gb ?

D9GTR kit ( 2*1gb) still in progress, I'm now able to pass 16M now but had to bump the Vdimm to 2.24v for that (VNB @ 1.71v , over didn't help me more)

VNB was 1.69v instead of the 1.71v showed and I had to go on strapp 400 to catch it, I'm really happy to have it succeed.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner but am stuck at work for at least another week. I received my 2 x 2 kit from this site, shipping was immediate (next day arrival and yes they are GTS.) They are a little more expensive but they are GTS. In the little time I had at home it was frustrating to say the least trying to get them above 1600 on the Rampage Extreme until I started playing with the skews, etc. (Big Thanks for the tips, Kasparz) Before I left I was stable @ 1800 mhz 2.01 V , 1.93 actual. When I get home I will be trying for 1866 which seems to be the pretty much the limit for the 2 x 2 kit.

Running 10x450 1:2 DDR1800 7-6-5-18 as 24/7 setting with just 2.02V.

Zeus; I would love to but I am currently working in Almeria, Spain and won't be home till next week!! I almost thought of packing the board, power supply, memory, etc. with me but the wife started to give me " the look".:shocked: If I remember correctly I was advancing the REF A & Ref B about 250 ms or ps (can't remember the units), NB was Advanced 12.5ms Sorry but can't be more help at the moment.

Depending on your chipset cooling and how good your NB is, i'd say somewhere between 1.4 and 1.45V should do.

So any news on when this are coming to US?
I really think this would be like Sanyo Denkis once they hit US stores...

One question for all of you with Diablos

What voltage do you use on your sticks for 24/7?
Did you change the Diablo heatsinks for a different one? Do you use fans over the RAM? Are you water cooling the RAM?

I'm using 2.05V for DDR1800 7-6-5-16.

Did not change the heatspreaders and have a dominator ramcooler over them.

Even at 2.2V under load (SuperPi 32M) they barely got warm.

I thought all the ROG boards had this problem which they would overvolt the RAM. Could you confirm to me if the Rampage Extreme overvolts or not?

According to the LCD poster and Asus probe the Vdimm is spot on.

I haven't poked around with a DMM but i think it will be a bit difficult as the heatpipe assembly is probably in the way.

I think 2.05V is pretty safe, even if it overvolts 0.05V it's still within specs of the ram.

I don't really understand the paranoia about putting some volts on DDR3, 2.3V for just benching should be no problem with a fan over them.

Haven't heard of anyone killing DDR3 with Micron chips with just 2.3V, have you?

Well couple of pages back there is a guy who had a dead pair of Diablos on his (I believe) Striker II.

I dont think it was the voltage, but probably the board. Anyways, Im planning on using fans on top of the Diablos and no more than 1.90 just to be on the safe side.

I havent really heard anybody killin it with 2.3v yet, but I dont want to be the first one to say it neither :P and like you said, as long as you are benching it fora while, its ok I guess.

about the Vdimm dont ever give more than 2.25V-2.35V if you want to keep them for a while..

1 Can you clarify this please?

2 Has an 8GB config of this RAM been tested on Striker II Extreme? If so, what timings/speed?

3 Right now I'm using 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix 2000 at 1800 8-7-7-24 1T, 1.9v D9GTS chips - Linked/synced with FSB. Can you guarantee that Diablo3 4Gb kit will also aperate at least at same speed/timings?
