If this game is better optimized, I'll get it as I want to play their upcoming dinosaur mod. >:)
I found gauss rifle with full ammo to be pretty effective combating them buggers in zero-g...
Though, entering the mothership holding a gauss rifle isn't that simple (without cheating)... Requires some serious effort put into backtracking including visiting surface after killing the NK general.
;)
edit:
On a completely unrelated note, why is there a tag "multithreaded" associated with this thread?
Read pages 4,5,6 :)
Crysis is optimized. Some people should understand optimization is the ability a game has to run in many platforms, and give the maximum playable quality according to it's hardware ;)
If you tell me it's multi GPU implementation should have been better, I agree with you, but most people doesn't use multi-gpu so they left it apart.
largon - ooh, where do you get all your goodies from? The one thing that really irked me, was picking up the gauss rifle and only having use of it for a short period of time before its taken away....and you dont get it back again til the aircraft carrier.
The trick is to make some preparations BEFORE jumping down the very first elevator shaft inside the mine. You need to make sure you can overcome two obstacles:
1. Elevator shaft
Punch those 4 big cable spools you'll find near the elevator shaft into the elev. shaft. Two of them must fall on top of the elevator below...
http://largon.wippiespace.com/Crysis...ng_stone_2.jpg
...and the other two all the way to the bottom. Also, you'll need to pile some small crates on top of the spool to be able to strength-jump up on the roof of the elevator.
http://largon.wippiespace.com/Crysis...ng_stone_3.jpg
2. Construction-platform in the room you find Rosenthal & Kyong
After killing General Kyong DO NOT enter the elevator with Rosenthal. Instead, punch the big crate that lies around all the way near the platform you entered the room where you finally killed the general:
http://largon.wippiespace.com/Crysis...ng_stone_1.jpg
Strength-jump on the crate and again on the construction-platform. Now you can climb all the way onto the surface and loot the stuff you want to carry into the mothership. For example, the gauss rifle. Ofcourse, only the stuff you carry on yourself will transfer with you on the next level.
largon, you're sick :p::up:

Wait, was that vid composed of new material, or just some new scenes done in good ol' Crysis? Suckiest trailer/gameplay vid I've ever seen... I liked Crysis (a lot), but if they can't spark my interest for the story-line on this one, I'm gonna have to wait for the real sequal....
Best Regards :toast:
From what I have read that trailer is runned on a 652$ PCso graphic wise it isn't at a high level, some other in game screens @ higher settings down the page.Quote:
So they ran the Warhead demonstration on a $652 PC built with parts purchased online. Performance was astonishingly smooth and fluid even with a high level of graphical detail.

IGN: Is this going to be a stand-alone story?
Cevat Yerli: Completely.
IGN: There's not going to be a cliffhanger when you say that?
Cevat Yerli: Yes, and I think the ending is more satisfying than Crysis, that I can say too. [laughter]
I know that the ending of Crysis was a bit of a downer for a lot of people. Actually, it was probably one of the biggest critiques we had, in fact. And I'm sorry for that, what happened there. We really thought we contained it there, but what happened is if the time passes and you look at it again, we said, "Yeah, you know we just threw a nuclear bomb there, and are left to the island. [Then] black. And it's like, okay, to be continued."

Personally I hope they do work more on gameplay than on increasing performance :X
wonder how stressing this game will be to any gaming rig as a descendent of crysis
crysis is great , warhead looks great , cant wait to get stuck in..
I'm looking forward to it. Crysis is good, actually look forward to replaying it with my new video cards on higher res, higher settings, and hopefully jacked up AI mods. Even at that playing some of the player created levels tried one the other day and it wasn't bad for a player made level.
Even if Warhead is slightly less demanding that Crysis or even equal too then cool. If it takes even more of a system to power it well damn hate to see what happens when the next release comes out.
I'm not trying to start a flame war, but let's see how badly pirated this game gets. I'd love to see Crytek blame poor sales on pirating and then focus on the console only market. We'll then get a decent console port that'll run great on a $200 video card and Nvidia and Ati can screw themselves. I wouldn't mind playing a Crysis console port that looks and runs like Gears of War or Assassins Creed. I realize that Crysis has a totally different rendering engine and game environment. Sure, the game engine and drawing distances are different, but you can take some shortcuts and still make a decent looking game that runs well. Console ports can be done properly and they run well on budget to mid-range rigs. Who the hell wants to keep spending money on obsoleting parts....oh crap....almost everyone on this forum does. Sorry.
more then one million games sold = poor sale...?
Crytek's CEO stated quite clearly during interviews (Pcgamer, etc) that he was disappointed with Crysis sales figures. I don't believe he called it poor sales, but he expected more. So, I probably shouldn't have used "poor sales," but I think you get the point. He definitely was complaining like the game was some sort of sales flop...
I hope they designed the levels better this time. After losing all the weapons when you get captured, I just gave up and used cheat. While the game can use some optimization, I think the current gen hardware should be able to run it fine, but they really need to work on the level design.
4870x2 + Warhead = BOOM
Agreed. Though I had a harder time beating Kyong on Hard than on Delta for some reason. Come to think of it, it took me a lot longer to beat the entire game on Hard than on Delta. Could be that the learning curve isn't as significant going from Hard to Delta as from Medium to Hard. Kinda like on Rock Band, its tougher to go from Medium to Hard than Hard to Expert.
I think the entire game needs a replay with 4870x2, this time with all eye candy on and no tweaks or configs whatsoever.
I don't know man, first time I played, I did it on Hard, second time Delta, was like piece of cake, actually.
Defeating Kyong is so easy, just Maximum-Strength-Punch him 5,6 times; the aliens in the core level and the blue little ones on the snow are also easy to defeat: grab'em then throw'em away. Cloak helps a lot doing this ;)
Anyway, I am sad omega1alpha thinks ports are viable to PC Gaming. :shakes:
And I even more regret he actually wants Warhead to fail and see such a good developer as Crytek abandon PC Gaming exclusivity, maybe you want Valve and Blizzard to leave PCs too, don't you? You want to see PS3 rulling the gaming world, don't you? If so, you suck :)
Oh, annihilat0r, we all already know you are having wet dreams about HD4870X2, you don't need to mention it in your every single post :ROTF:
If Valve and Blizzard stop making PC titles, I'll punch a baby. Hard. In the chest. And if there isn't a baby within a 10 foot radius I will fly to China and make a baby with a prostitute just to have a baby to punch.
not really....
http://techreport.com/r.x/radeon-hd-...0-veryhigh.gif
Yeah, you got it kinda backwards, most cases 4870CF wins. But if your the kinda person who factors in microstutter (I am) and understand the average frame rate thrown into our faces from review sites on CF/SLI are not really representative of the actual fps, then, I agree.
ya really
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/5...152f86dxd9.png
Crysis is one of the sole games where CF doesn't win :)
and I bet Nvidia sitting aloongside Crytek for the creation of that game has nothing to do with that...
I don't care for the reasons.
that's beside the point. Somebody claiming that HD4870X2 will be "da bomb" might be surprised and disappointed in a thread about one of the games were CF doesn't stand out against single GTX 280.
carry on!
what I like the most is the DX10 bubble being burst by those companies first creating it.
:up:Quote:
- Won't require DX10 for maximum details and full effects.
<20 FPS is not what I call playable. so Very High at 1920x1200 is not feasible at this point in time
When did we start talking about playability? We were talking about 2 HD 4870's having a higher framerate. And since the last 3 generations of cards from both companies have used DX10, I think it's time we start looking at it. DX9 performance shouldn't even be considered for these cards.
o rly?
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/55419/cry1920.gif
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/55419/17136.png
and again
Doesnt even need crossfire
ya win some ya loose some , but from most of the crossfire reviews the 4870's are ahead , and even dx10 with AA the 4870 ALONE beasts a 280.
 that's why max IQ with Crysis Warhead will be possible with DX9, right?
 what good is a CF setup if it beats GTX 280 only at resolution/settings which make the game unplayable. it makes it irrelevant ;)Quote:
When did we start talking about playability?
@Papu: anandtech & firingsquad use the canned fly-over build in benchmark; techreport does the FRAPS in-game thing,
I don't know how TT does it's test, but I think it's the fly-over also.
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/2...1d8cd6acv2.png
CF fails completely :'(
setup fail tbh
You're not even looking at the other reviews.
You probably want to stick to XP for the next 10 years too, huh? I mean, since it can do anything, we should just keep it forever.
nope got ya beat, I've read them all :ROTF:
new trailer
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38396.html
"t is no surprise that Crysis has emerged as the acid test for testing new GPUs and has found itself a home in the benchmark protfolios of most websites.
Later on Crytek released the 1.1 patch which offered performance gains but the significant of those gains was on Multi-GPU configurations. As it stands today, Crysis is still a very resource (GPU) intensive game with people resorting to either lowering the quality of shaders or resolution (or both) in order to achieve playable frame-rates."
"Crysis:Warhead arriving this fall promises to fix most of these performance related issues with the CEO Cevat Yerli saying that a $650 PC will run Warhead with playable frame-rates. If we expect that Warhead runs 20% more efficiently over Crysis, that gets us close to the 50fps mark at 1920×1200 (24" LCD) with the 4870X2. Factor in some more gain by the CrossFireX team by the time 4870X2 hits retail and we're close to the magical 60fps mark. This could mean that the days of editing .cfg files for attaining playable frame-rates at the 24" LCD resolution could finally be over, ofcourse you would have to own a 4870X2 first!"
source; GPU Cafe
Cevat Yerli indicated that they could rename quality presets in crysis warhead. If thats the case than they cant be compared like this. I know they are working on several optimizations and some new features but further confirmation is needed.
"We are upset at ourselves actually, because we miscommunicated some of the things. We labeled certain things wrong inside the game, like configuration for example. We could have labeled it more efficiently, saying that very high [detail] should have been ultra high, and high should have been very high, because our high compared to other games' high was a generational difference. But the perception from the gamer was that if he qualified for medium, he said, "Hey, I'm playing other games at high. Why don't I play Crysis at high, too?" And it's a fair enough question.
It was just a naming convention issue, because our medium could easily compete with any high, and very high should have been ultra high as a means of futurizing. Then we might have received less critiquing about configuration issues, and this created the feeling of, "I will not play this game until I have the right PC because I don't want to spoil my experience." This kind of excuse happened even between my friends. I said, "Guys, play the game now. Don't wait for it like three months, six months, because it's out now."
I think we are fixing a lot of this with Warhead."

The trailer might be out but gametrailers is SO DAMN SLOW. Been waiting for it to buffer on an 8mb connection and i've given up after 20 MINUTES.
The trailer looks great !!!
The talk of piracy is common, its funny they dont know how to stop piracy, dont make it hard to crack, make it open and easy to do and make a good multiplayer and people will buy it.
oh, lower price and offer some digital download would hurt either.
Seems developers dont understand the behavioural mechanics behind piracy.
Its not gonna stop due to saying largely nonsense as they do, people are not changing behaviour based on what could happen to PC gaming.
I buy my games I play, and they are few.
Most games I see are copies of some other game idea, no innovation makes piracy thrive.
Doom, silly, quake silly, any more fps shooters made, I trow up.
The market has changed in what gamers want, the devloeprs havent got that as yet.
However the game looks good.
(not gonna buy it)
silly shooters.
I had a brief go on WarHead a preview version at i34, sadly it was running on the SCAN White Cobra (QX9770 @ 3.6, I get these to 4.0-4.2GHz routinely) and crashed within minutes. Either unstable software or a very poor OC!
Nowt like killing a rivals 'Dream PC'!
If they can make fun deathmatch + team deathmatch modes, with smaller more fun maps it would be awesome.
the new trailer is up on the site now too.

Crysis Warhead is Coming to Steam
Crytek and Valve today announced an agreement to bring Crysis Warhead and Crysis to Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC games and digital content with over 15 million accounts around the world.
"The millions of gamers logging into Steam every week to play today's best PC games are going to love Crysis Warhead," said Avni Yerli, Managing Director at Crytek. "Crytek Hungary has done a terrific job creating this new experience while optimizing CryEngine 2, and we're looking forward to delivering it and the original Crysis as our first offerings on Steam."[---]
"Crytek is one of the industry's great success stories, emerging new technology and talent," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Crysis is one of today's leading PC franchises and delivering the original and Crysis Warhead via Steam is landmark for the platform."
The follow up to Crysis, one of the highest rated PC games of last year, Crysis Warhead will take players through the parallel story of Sergeant Michael 'Psycho' Sykes as he embarks on an intense, explosive adventure on the other side of the island. With waves of more challenging human and alien enemies to navigate through, players will once again be outfitted with the revolutionary Nanosuit and an arsenal of new weapons and vehicles to help Psycho complete his critical mission.Crysis Warhead will also come with Crysis Wars, a tailor-made experience for multiplayer gamers, featuring three diverse match types and 21 maps.
Crysis Warhead and Crysis will be available for pre-purchase via Steam starting this weekend, and expected to be released in mid September. Both games are published by EA Partners. For more details, please visit Steam Games and Crysis Warhead website.

IGN said in a recent review that it runs faster while looking better. I wanna see it broken down in reviews from hardware sites.
And here comes the review from IGN:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/909/909584p1.html
It appears that Crysis Warhead is well optimized than Crysis. And you only need the old 8800GTS to play it smoothly at high settings @ 1680x1050.
Quote:
I played Warhead on a high-end machine with a quad core CPU and the latest Nvidia graphics card at high resolution (1680x1050) with all the details set to Enthusiast, which is essentially very high. It looked cutting edge and the frame rate was solid. Next, I checked the game on a slightly older PC with a two-year old 8800GTS and I was still able to crank it to Enthusiast settings and the same resolution and get solid results. Finally, I checked it out on the "$700 PC" that Crytek and EA have been touting. It really is a $700 machine built on the latest mainstream parts (the video card is a 9800GT), and I was able to play the final boss battle at the same resolution and at Enthusiast settings and get solid frame rates. I also tried it the Gamer setting, which is essentially high, and the frame rate was buttery smooth. You do lose some visual quality stepping down from Enthusiast, but even at Gamer Warhead still looks better than almost every game out there.
I still wait for this game.....:):)
Pretty excited for warhead. 4850 CF should be enough power to run a crysis game by now, especially if it's somewhat optimized for once.
I preordered it on Steam already. 8800GTX plays the original very well at 1680x1050, even with this CPU that belongs in the attic, so this should be even better.
just watched the video review. looks like Warhead will be what we hoped for int he original and then some. good thing i just got that second 8800gtx:D maybe it's optimized enough to run on "enthusiast" with 8XAA at 1680x1050 on a 8800gtx SLI? i sure hope so!
"A common theme began to emerge over the course of my conversation with Crytek producer Bernd Diemer: this company has learned a lot since the release of Crysis.
Crysis Warhead, the result of Crytek's accumulated knowledge, will be released on Tuesday, and already the game is receiving high marks from critics.
In our lengthy interview, Diemer went over the major changes made to the Crysis formula in Warhead, whether Crysis itself will be patched to bring it up to speed, the importance of the new Crysis-branded PC, and the future of the Crysis franchise. "
very nice interview with a Warhead developer; http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=999
goes on saying they MIGHT patch crysis to run like warhead!
Nice to see it on steam, hopefully they wont price discriminate as much as they do with other titles.
O.o, I was not going to buy this because of DRM and EA, but if it is on Steam...now now that might change my opinion. Anyone know if it is going to have any DRM on Steam or its just gonna be normal steam type game?
At first I wasn't very excited about this game but it gets more and more interesting, maybe I'd even finish this game, Crysis never captured me, it felt too slow paced and boring at times and the rather low fps with AA wasn't very nice either and disabling AA made the trees look like crap. Hopefully I could play this game at 1280x960 @ AA2x with still sufficient fps on a single 8800GT. And thanks for adding the grenade launcher, love this weapon.
Im going to play this at medium with some AA and enjoy the game.Couldnt be arsed watching my pc cripple again like last time.
does the retail version also work on steam? so that i could use my warhead key on steam?
e.g. dark messiah worked like that.
No more High & Very High in Crysis warhead , now is Gamer & Enthusiast !
Another review
:up:Quote:
http://www.driverheaven.net/gamingre...p?reviewid=634
My system for the review was a Q6600 with a 260 GTX and I was able to set the graphics to 1920x1200 with details at Enthusiast level (basically the same as very high from before).
The game not only looked amazing but it ran around the 35-50fps mark.
Anyone with a 8800GTS or higher will be able to enjoy Crysis at high resolution with the eye candy on full.
For those with slightly less impressive hardware, you can comfortably use Gamer setting, which increases frame rates by a good 20%. You do lose a little of the image quality obviously but it’s still very impressive.

Finally, Crysis all max @1920x1200 with 60fps is a reality. :D
Sweet sounds awesome. My archaic PD820+8800GT+3GB DDR2 can handle this latest iteration, and at 1600x1200. :D
they shouldn't disable very high settings, the game looks absolutely stunning although unplayable with anything below a 4870x2 or gtx 280's sli. Anyways the game makes consoles look like :banana:
I wouldn't be so sure!
We don't know is it all same and is it everyone cvar under previous "very High" same now with "Enthusiasts"... CryEngine 2 has hundreds of cvars and mine guess is that devs done some tweaking so that finall result is similar appearance, but with better framerate...
For example "very High' settings for the "Shaders" option is combining five or six different shaders, and apply "very High" to all of them! In the new "Enthusiasts" profile it's not necessary that all of those shaders are set up as "Very High"! Same goes for all the others options with in the graphics settings!

thats the same Fps we get in Crysis 1 with same card and same settings !
maybe the game is not well optimized for ATi cards YET (like crysis 1, only few weeks later they released a Patch with +performance for ATi cards )

ive been looking forward to this game for a while....
i'll be picking my copy up @round noon :)
Another twimtbp hack job, where are the performance gains!!!Oh I know it's only for Nvidia hardware.Ill pass:down:
Some other screens.
As for Nvidia and Crysis all I can say is congrats Nvidia!.....and this comes from a ATi 4850 user.
Well, i pre-ordered my copy off Amazon this morning :)
Plus, i'd like to see how optimised the engine is with the same custom CVAR's i'm using for Crysis...
So do these optimizations in Warhead mean the original Crysis campaign sees the same performance improvement as well?
Nope - the two are separate products, although bernd diemer said they MIGHT backport them.
Steam have it available for preinstall before it goes active in 1.4days, $29
Nomad pre-ordered the game through Steam. :D

Why do you think you have to run the highest quality settings?!
Just because the game offers the option to sport better graphics than in any other game, does NOT mean that this (or any other) game engine is able to produce processing power out of thin air!
That your system isn't able to draw a hundred trillion shaded texels with 60 Hz is not the fault of the game!
It's not been released yet for anything other than preload - so unless you've magically unlocked your copy on steam, you're talking BS. If i get 30fps avg at 1440x900 at settings BEYOND ultra high with a pair of 4850's and an E7200, then again, you're talking BS.
Damn AF and parallax on the road is still a no go :(
