You guys are mixing up 1Gb and 2gb sticks... I can heartly recommend the 4GB kits but will test the 2GB kit next week (those are Microns for sure) they should be able to get me up to 1200mhz 5-5-5-15 for sure...

Will try some stuff N7, but eg if you want 3.6Ghz it's better overall to do it with a lower multi as you increase the bandwith of the ram and on the cores...

Bios TRFC options for 4gb kits : 55-60-70-80-85-105-132

N7 I booted with 350FSB and 8GB PC8000 Ram at 1053 : Bios set AUTO perf level at 8, manual I could go to 6 lowest.

Bandwith test 3.5ghz - 350FSB -RAM 1053Mhz - Perf level 6

I would seriously go for 400FSB on this board... till maybe a newer bios gives a lower performance level...

AFAIK D9GMH are 512bit chips, so it's impossible to get 2GB in one module. If they are Micron they're not D9GMH. The same goes to D9GKX, just a higher binned D9GMH.

Or maybe D9HBD, like mushkin...

All current DDR2 EM2/HP2/XP2 Mushkin is Powerchips, unless you are referring to their very old 2x2 GB kits, which haven't been sold for a long time.
They ususually were D9GSV, though D9HBD was in the old HP2 kit apparently.

An FYI: basically every decent 2x2 GB DDR2 kit uses Powerchips.
The Crucial Ballistix 2x2 GB DDR2 kit is rumored to be a new Micron, but till i see ICs, it clocks just like PSC...

Well, this thread is pretty interesting besides the ram chip off topic stuff, but what I'm gathering so far is that this board isn't much of an upgrade from the P5K-Premium. Is there anyone posting in this thread that made the transition from the Black Pearl to the P5Q-D? If so, how does it stack up?

I've been asking this same questions on various forums for the last month or so and no one has really been able to give me an answer. I NEED to upgrade my system pretty soon and I want to make sure the motherboard can handle these new GPU's the are coming out.

8x 2.0 is equal to 16x 1.x.

EDIT : For my QX quad all seems to be the same... will have to try the wolfies soon... only thing I noticed is that Static Read Contol can remain on auto, while I had to disable it before to get it to post... latency on the ram is still the same and performance level manual set too...

This board is moving fast, good job PMP...will this be the new Commando ? So nice 400FSB/1066Mhz out of the box with minimum voltage settings...8Gb of ram and a Quad

Does clock skew affect perfomance or only stability and max OC?

Hence it has to do with some internal delays, overall performance is still better due to higher FSB clock. In theory :P

That's a bug in CPU-Z DDR3 at only 618mhz is so so... those are the P5Q Dlx results....

i tested both but i haven't the p5q3 dlx anymore so i cant test the new bios.

Depends on what you want to do... max overclocks this board seems sweet with the latest biosses, day to day use with same clocks... don't think there will be much that differencs from P35/X38/X48/P45...

It's not written down in the manual, it's the Coaxial S/PDIF Out Port but the tiny hole might eg just be there for connecting a jack better if it has a purpose at all... you got good eyes mate...

The chipset can support DDR2 and 3 but if Asus puts on the P5Q Dlx only DDR2 slots no way you are getting DDR3's to work... eg PCB difference between eg P5K Dlx and P5K3 Dlx was only the DDR2 and DDR3 slots ( wild guessing, just to make an example don't shoot the messenger plz )...

Some mobo's have both DDR2 and DDR3 slots onboard (MSI, Foxconn)...

I'm thinking about getting the P5Q-Pro, as it is the only board available ATM, and it costs around 100€.
Not sure if should go for it or wait a another week, before the Deluxe becomes more and more available.

I would await either the P5Q-E (same bios as P5Q Dlx ) or wait a few days mate, did you check at www.jaha.be ? Hans claims 2-3 days for them to get into stock... but I doubt for ya current setup that there would be much change... (you got such a nice combo there)

It's not for this setup, it's for another rig with a X3350 and DFI-UT P35, which is having problems getting over 445-450FSB (well known problem).
Guess I'll have to be patient a bit more, and wait a couple more days.

I have no clue where the mobo temp sensor is placed but it surely isn't the NB temp being readout... Asus knowing prolly placed near the dimms slots as usual and pretty irrelevant info to me... (but I could be wrong ofcourse)

what FSB do you guys hit primestable?

Board was here when I woke up at noon. Everything installed w/o issue. Incase anyone is wondering I can confirm that the HR-09's that fit the x38/x48 chipset also fit this board, type2. I also didn't have to reinstall windows going from x48-->P45. There was a long wait for windows to reload drivers before I had control over my keyboard/mouse and I did have to reactivate windows and reinstall my sound card driver but that was it.
Unfortunately there is no time to overclock today, it is time to go to work:mad:.

Just wanted to add that the new mounting system they have for the mosfet coolers works great for the HR-09's, no wiggle whatsoever:)

This was an insane FSB! Can anyone please send me the best beta-bios? I've only got the newest verrified bios from Asus, but now i'm done with the tests I need, and just wanna play some more with my vapo.

I have to say that im already have got some quite awesome results with my corrent bios. Max boot 45nm dual around 585FSB, and I'm also quite certain that I've broke the Q9300 world record. Hope to get even futher with a new BIOS.

If anyone takes the trobble sending me the beta-bios in a PM i would be happy.

I just withdraw my mobo to buy a P5Q deluxe. I had a problem. When I was removing the cpu of the socket, the elastomero that comes with cooler box was all broken, and fell small pieces of elastomero in the pins of socket. I withdrew the most that I got the pieces, but if it was a piece of elastomero, my friend (who bought the mobo) may have problems?

this p5q deluxe is doing real great..

does this mean that a p5q vanilla and p5q pro will do as good? why you ask?

I thought the Pro board was better then deluxe, looks to be a little different with the heatpipes and the SATA layout thats really ugly but 50.00 less.

Recommended there as a value board.

The only thing disappointing me is that there is no Xeon X3350 support listed on ASUS' site. According to their compatability list http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...odel=P5Q%20PRO , no new processors have been added since release BIOS 0205, and they are now on 0506 which is listed as "first release" in the download section. Not sure if that's a website snafu or legit, but it seems odd when previous boards out now have Xeon support. Although you also can't check for support for that particular Xeon on ANY of their boards using the reverse route with their compatability widget, as that one is strangely missing... :shrug:

Question: I bought a 40mm Fan for NB - Will it install on this board? The NB is covered with cool, albeit diagonal heat sinks. Anyone here install a 40mm fan on NB?

Also, having a Q9450, What kind of max idle/load temperatures should I keep in mind which I shouldn't exceed?

Edit: I've asked this earlier in the a different board thread - How do you set DRAM:FSB Ratio as 1:1? And is it necessary to do that for OC'ing? (Sorry for a n00b Q)

pmp: as i remember, in this thread ppl compared p45 with 965
how much better (in MHz) is P45 against P35 is in Your case?
My Q743A is hitting on DFI LP LT P35 fsb 555, on 965 about 620. So if on P45 will be fsb 600 it's worth to change it ;)
