looks sweet! did you ever get ahold of captain?
stuey- just you(or the camera).
thanks guys!
Jack- ah nice :) i was in the south/east end of the nederlands for quite a bit of time this summer :) (maastricht)
thanks moc :)
circaflex: cheers! :) yeah i did but he was busy and had to hang up and call me later, still waiting ~ 2-3 weeks later hehe.
Well heres another evap. thank you tuchan for your patience. My brute 2 started leaking so i couldn't leak test this. i finally had to wait so long i bought a new manifold just for leak testing this while i send my brute 2 back to yellowjacket (lifetime warrenty FTW!!!). So my friend thank you so much for your incredible patience! i will be giving tuchan a maze evap i have here and a suction line free.
here are the pics. after the wait i didn't want to have to leak test it again and risk leaks by completely getting all the silfos off.

looks sweet
Tyber your braze on evaps doesn't look like they are flowing the filler out uniformly. What rod are you using ? are you cleaning first and using flux????
Some one could teach you how to make perfect brazes in 15 minutes if you could get with someone that knows how. It's hard to explain in words, but a few quick lessons and you'll be a pro.
Good luck
Walt
ya i am with wdrzal it seems like you are not getting it hot enough but then again you real can't tell by pics. i wish you lived by me i could show you a trick or two but still looks good keep it up and you will get the brazeing before you know it. hope to here from you soon. Brad
thanks but i am happy with how i sweat. care to show the areas where it doesn't seem to flow?
OK sorry i did not say that right it just looks like ether you had to put alot of braze rod on it or that it just was not flowing right
and the other reason i would say this is because you should be able to take off all the excess braze and not have it leak as it should suck into all the joints.
and when ever this would happen to me i would just add more heat to get it to flow into all the joints.
now i am not saying you are doing anything wrong its just it takes some time to be a pro at it
not saying i am a pro as i have only been brazing/welding for 5 years and still have lots to learn.
or is this not what you ment when you said
here are the pics. after the wait i didn't want to have to leak test it again and risk leaks by completely getting all the silfos off
or did you not have any leaks last time and you are just covering your butt to make sure it does not leak. and if that is the fact i take back all i have said as now i know that you just put on more brazing rod then what you needed to make sure it did not leak.
hey i didn't take offense to it. This evap had a pin-hole leak last time and i wanted to make sure i got it this time. If you guys are referring to how much the silfos is climbing up the evap is because... i wanted to make sure i didn't have a leak heheh.
I am arrogant and still braze in a vice which im sure doesn't help. At the price of kiln brick around me or to ship it it would problably be best to just buy a cheap camping stove and braze on it.
cheers
It just looks like the braze isn't flowing out evenly. It looks like there is a lot of thickness, although a fraction of a millimeter, you might not be getting the capillary effect. This may lead to a braze that isn't as strong since the thick braze material is simply gaping across the two pieces of metal. Like ruffus said you can't really tell by a pic and if you look at the area above the red box it looks completely smooth. Either way, I think you are doing a fine job on those evaps.
Joe
p.s. Are you heating from the top or bottom?
cheers joe!
btw i found a picture on my camera from ~ a month ago with the evap just after brazing
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2647.jpg
edit: joe, i have the base facing the sky and heat the base until the evap gets very hot, then work around the sides till it glows orange
I don't mean to crap on your thread but....Your evap reminded me of Zorro.
Hehe. Nice one.
LOL!!!!! zorro!!! woosh woooshhh!!!! got my 12k btu compressor.... typer evap is about to have a home.!:yepp:
sweet!
if you have a source for those hit me up :) take lots of pics and start a thread, or post em here!
cheers
well
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2777.jpg
ruffus thanks for being patient. I didn't get to finish it today as hoped... I got in a argument with my mum so had to stop working. And had something really frustrating happen :O
only thing left to do is to paint the backplates... 1 had a bit of oxidation(steel) so i put it on my expensive belt sander, and it sucked it into the bottum of it. I really hope i can get it out... for one its my last steel backplate, second i need to use my belt sander!
So besides that its ready. ill try to tilt it upside down and get it out tomorrow afterschool.
BTW im sending ruffus 2 different evap designs and hes telling me which one gives him better core temps :)
cheers!
looks really good and can't wait to see how they work got a system i am working on now that i want to try them on heres a pic
The evaporators are looking great, Teyber, and so does the enclosures!
Greets,
Niko
Your work looks SH4RP!
thanks guys!
tiborr: thanks dude! im sure you agree with me... using your own evap is cool :)
thanks jor3lbr!
cheers ruffus :)
well i got the backplate out :)
also look what i did today. the granddaddy of all evaps :p: not including blasters hehe. its larger diameter, huge, and will be great for a cascade. its not nearly complete, got loads of machinign to do. (i.e. havn't even touched the base yet... it will be machined as thin as i can get it, hopefully as thin as the oether evap in the picture)

i think it will be sweet for a cascade LOL! its priceless... its taken me many hours to get where i am
looks good keep up the good work
Damn that thing looks like it eats CPU's for breakfast.
Good Job.
O ya and, Any particular reason for thin channels but thick copper in between?
Looks great and if the new trend catches up (bigger cpus) you are future proof!
My box of goodies rocked up over here in Australia only a week after shipment in very good condition. http://img26.exs.cx/img26/2245/thumbsup8de.gifThumbs up to teyber and his great work, cheers mate. Will get to this cooler ASAP, even if I have to quit my job to get it donehttp://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/dirtbox/pics/muttley.gif I will grab some pics for ya:)
awsome thanks dude!
i was amazed at the shipping also. i shipped a oil sep to the UK and it got there in 6 days :) USPS is stepping it up!
Well glad it all came and thanks for your patience dude
hmm a hint at my next project?

can't wait to see what you do with these i read over the hole pdf and it sounds like you could have lots of fun with thoses
Ohh CNC, wish I had the space for a CNC milling machine. :(
Good luck with the project.

Look what picture duniek just sent me :) mine are on the right. Cheers dude!
HAHA mine are on the left :)
ya well mine just showed up today
Teyber how are the evap tests coming along?
hey man its me that is doing the testing on the evaps
right now i just got the evaps today. I do have the test system almost all together but i am still waiting on ASUS to ship me back my MOBO so i can do some testing with a mobo and cpu as well as a 300watt load tester. so hopping to have some results by the end of the month i hope
thanks man :)
btw ruffus is the man. he sent me some pics today, he offered to bead blast the evaps so i took him up on it. I can't believe how they look, just by the picture too. Thanks man!
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...eadblasted.jpg
They really look 100 times better!
thanks dude! :)

Woo very nice Teyber. So suction will be out the side then for the gpu blocks. Thanks again for the exchange.:toast:
cant wait to see how well they perform ruffus should be setting them up soon this new one looks great
thanks neil :)
ozz- Same! :) hope these give ya good results. ruffus works fast too, im eager as well.
jon- thanks dude. where the hell are you these days, besides enjoying your new pad
I've been really busy with paperwork and work is actually busy too. Trucks are breaking down plus it is the peak season being the holidays and all.
Not enjoying the house yet. We get the keys some time this month. My mother-in-law is going to be moving back in her house.
I got a 5000 btu window ac for free. Maybe I'll put the maze evap that I got from you on it for chits and giggles.
nice :)
btw this will hopefully ship monday.

just need to paint the other side of the backplate and i can't find something i was going to include in this package -_-
Coming along nicely the SS me and ruffus are working on is getting closer we pressure tested the condensor all seems well made fan shroud for it and mounted to condenser next we need to make mounting holes for the compressor and a few more tidious things before we put the evap on.
sweet bro can't wait to see it done :)
well look what i got in the mail from duniek :)
my custom designed mounts!
had a small confusion and they are quite late, but im very happy with them and the price i paid for it all.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2885.jpg
Plus in the backround alu pot :)
they look good im guessing those two holes overlapping are for I7
:eek2:
They are so beautiful I cried a little......
 :D
Those look real Good
props on the new mount.... i still have not gotten around to putting this 12k btu unit and your evap together... soon im hoping..:yepp:
Thanks so much guys!
gosmeyer, that means so much coming from the king of evaps :)
I have made 3 evaps in the past couple days, i sent the pics via a pm to the customer, more of the same but i guess this section doesn't have a ton as of late so if you want i can post up some pics :)
Some stuff i have been working on lately and 3 evap kits, the other evap is for sdumper :)

Hey Teyber looking at the design again I have a couple of questions:
1) The cap line goes in the top spraying refrigerant onto the top circle and then pulls down to the suction at the bottom at the cut edges correct?
2) Are the circles angled downwards to aid in the flow and suction or are they straight?
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN2926.jpg
hey!
1) no the cap tube goes to the base layer then the suction is at the top.
2) i would need a 5 axis cnc mill or a lathe to do angled slots.
cheers!
Gotcha...
Any results from Ruffus yet?
When the refrigerant is at hundred psi I think the refrigerant will find its way, angled or not, but this would be kinda interesting to see if it does make a difference. Maybe increase the velocity of the refrigerant? But also maybe thats bad because it doesnt absorb as much heat while in evap?
Hmmm......
well guys i just got my 100 foot roll of cap tube just the other day and i have 3 systems on the go but i will get u guys some info by the first week of the new year as i will have the time right after x-mas to get it finished
When I recieved my first Chilly1 Evaps they had the Cap tube coming in at the top, suction line feeding at the bottom.
I thought that was strange and just the reverse of what I thought it should be.
I had a long talk with Jinu one day about that and he said that he tried them both ways and it didn't make any differance in performance.
Thanks bill!

do u have a gpu mount yet???
looks really good tyber keep up the good work:up:
hey man that looks good. should have the test rig up and running in the next couple of days
hey guys i was going to wait till ozzfests evap shows up to braze them all at once but i think that i am just going to get the test evaps brazed up and hopfully i will have the system together today and vac'ing down overnight will let u guys know more as i get it done. as well i will post some pics when done brazeing the evaps as well as cleaning and laping
Dang Teyber that is sweet !!
Me needs your machines !
nah- here is my x-mas gifts
http://www.cncfusion.com/images/X3mo...s/CIMG4961.JPG
(with helical couplings for the x/y axis)
which is $650.
then a face mill, inserts for it, a .0002" 6" digital caliper, and some more cnc parts:up:
I realized with those tools i just wouldn't be able to pay them off. Maybe one day ill try to get a small 7x12, 9x19, or similar lathe and convert it myself with a spindle encoder:up:
whats on your list walt? anything fun?:)
^^^^^^^^ No more room in the toy Box!
Do you have a good dial indicator and Base ? You hould check all the table slide runouts and spindle so you know where you started before you start putting the new lead screws in.You'll need it for the retrofit too.
can't wait to see how it all works out for ya as u do good work without the cnc
thanks man! :)
look what showed up, this wasn't supposed to come for 1-2+ weeks!

ok guys i have the test rig all brazed up just need to put leak lock on the 2 flares. then i can evac it down and get to tunning it
Nice counters dude.
<------ I'm seriously jealous now Reed. Let me know when you have a batch of evaps and if they are i7 compatable (mounts).
That is so sweet. Hardware :banana::banana::banana:
Nice one Teyber !!
wtf
this did not come up in the "threads with new posts"
so sorry for the late reply :(
thanks jon! Btw did that firm screw you on that house you were going to buy?(where they wanted you to fix everything and they didn't guarantee the house to you?)
matt- Look up :)
thanks bill!
so guys last night i stayed up late to see if i could get the test rig up and running. so after i got it charged with r290 it was running just great i was getting -33c at 200 watts then all of a sudinht e low side sucked into vacuum as well the high side droped as well. so i was thinking at frist muck i have a leak. so i shut it off and looked for any leaks with leakdetector stuff and could not find any. So when i found there was no leaks i got down to thinking what could cause this to happen. now does anyone have a idea what might be happening here. as at first i thought maybe it was a blocked cap tube but if it was that the high side would have gone up instead it got lower.oh ya as well after it does this and i shut it down the sides don't equlize. here i will give u guys the model number of the compressor maybe there is something i am missing
not to sure what is up with this thing as i get up this morning and now it seems to be working so i am going to leave it running and see if it does this again
finally invested in a blaster. not perfect but here is try #1 wit a totally ghetto setup :) (no cabinet, not enough air, too fine of grit)
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...t=59173&page=2
btw why does xtremesystems never let my upload pics to the site
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN3085.jpg
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSCN3086.jpg
all previous blasting was done by ruffus(better then me lol) but shipping was starting to add up
so this is the first blasting done by yours truly :)
she look great teyber work of art mate well done
see teyber I told you some sand blasting equipement is cheap make yourself a ghetto blaster cabinet and after a while you will have it down
good job man
Sorry, I didn't see this before so I am really late, but this is definitely from a blocked cap tube, most likely from moisture. Been there more times than I'd have liked! When this happens, both high side and low side pressure will drop exactly as you have described and it won't equalize or it will equalzie slowly. If it doesn't equalize even after giving it time to warm up, then it's probably something plugging the capillary that the drier didn't catch.
If it keeps doing it and you are sure it's water because it equalizes after warming up, then recover your refrigerant(since it's R290 I guess this doesn't really matter so much) and vacuum it out while heating the drier. Heating everything would be even better if you have a small space heater you could turn on low just to warm things up a little bit to speed up the process. After that you should be good to go. :)
thanks man ya i had ended up getting it there was a leak or 2 i had to work out then i evaced it down 3 times and left it on over night for each run and it worked just great well enough that i got another compressor the same and i am building a couple of cascades with them as my first stage compressors and 2 danfoss sc18clx.2's for the second stages. but thanks for the help.
Good, glad to see you got it working.
im thinking about getting this lathe this weekend
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=45861
as i have a 20% off coupon. sure the grizzly 10x22 is a 3x better lathe, but $1100 is a lot of money when you already have a mill
I want your garage :(
