It only takes a little bump in volts to make a difference, and under water has little affect on temps.
My soldering skills are rough at best, but I didn't find it too difficult.
The thing that caught me out (again) is that the VR needs quite a few turns before the voltage increase starts to kick in. This had me thinking initially that the mod wasn't working. Could be down to my solder joints. I don't know.
All good in the end though.:D

RLM - what does your gx2 bench at before and after vmod ? Do you think its worth it ? Im just under 21k atm and 22k would be a gem .
Going by memory here, but before i was limited to something like 740/1856/1150. With the vmod and a modest volt boost from 1.15 -> 1.20, I was then able to hit 790/1944/1150. That's prior to watercooling. With watercooling I still think there's a way to go. I've taken it up to 803/2007/1150 so far.Quote:

As slugzkea mentioned the Q6600 is a bottleneck, and I'm at about it's limit at 4070mhz. A QX9650 is on it's way, so we'll see where we can go with that. In addition I'm on the 790i with DDR3, and pushing the ram does give a good boost to results.
Is it worth it? Not sure. I'm happy. There are however new cards on the way in the next few months, so it's whether you think you're likely to hold onto the card or not, and whether volt modding will affect re-sale. I don 't know really.
With a q6600 and GX2 the only 3dmark benches that seem to have a decent gain are 3dmark06 and 03.
Playing Graw though is sweet as a nut now. Maxed out settings 1920x1200. 778/1945/1110 and temps maxing out at 39-40c.
RLM
Ok, I'm allso asking about Vmod, its worth it?! With stock cooler my card is benching at 799/1998/1166. Now with EK-FC9800 waterblock my card is 820/2052/1206 benchable. I'm ready to go to hard Vmod if I can bench at least 870-900 (1.25-1.35v) core frequency. Will I get this frequency with hard Vmod
Nickless it looks like you already have a nice card there , so its up to you mate . If I could bench at 900 core after vmod I would probably go for it too but not for 800 .
RLM - I will probably leave it stock for the resale rason as I will I am keen on a quick upgrade with the new releases. Im not an ATI fan but the 4870x2 looks very nice (in spec).
man thats a kickass card there nickless.
not a bad q666 clock either
I have benched to about 780 but scores go backwards after 725 or so , Im assuming its cpu bottleneck. Why do my sm2 scores drop when I clock my shaders up ?
Any 1 tried the new 175.16 drivers ?
I did but DV is broken for our 9800GX2 and Vista 64....
any body have creative X-Fi working with 9800GX2
seems like i have conflict between them ?
Hi,
I have a X-Fi working with a GX2 with no problems.
A thing that many people has noticed is that in Rampage and Maximus there's an issue with IRQ's remmaping. It seems that these boards have the IRQ's from the PCI slots already shared with the USB ports, in many cases the S.O. try's to share the USB/PCI IRQ's with other components and thats when the ... hits the fan.
I have an X-Fi and a Pinnacle Tuner and if I try to assembly the PC with the VGA, the Tuner and the X-Fi all together it just won't boot to the O.S., but if I put only the X-Fi first it will boot, after that I turn the PC off and add the Tuner and everything will be OK.
Hope that this can be of any help for you: try putting the RAID+VGA card first and only later to add the X-FI.
Rgrds.
Thank you MinisterDfSound its work now
Tried the new 175.16 beta drivers and cant tell of any improvement other than all my sensors work in everest now.

so, i voted for the "drivers need work" option because my dual monitor support is lacking. sometime I use one monitor, sometimes I use two. And I don't have one that is "primary". That means I have to change control panel settings quite a bit. The problem is that the process isn't really fluid, and results aren't always consistent. results in pointless restarts to get the display(s) the way I want.
the card is great though
Well I got COD 4 today, and it is l33t!
MP frames are excellent but SP, man...40fps average? what the hell is that?
Anybody else experiencing this? and enableing "dual video cards" did nothing for a performance hit.
The fact that I'm getting higher frames in crysis kinda hints that something's wrong...
Wow - Now I don't feel so bad about my 2 3870x2s... my FPS in COD4 is well into the 100s. That game should scale very well with multiple GPUs. Something is definitely not right about that. I'll keep an eye on this one. I'm very curious. The 3870X2 shines in that game. What res and AA AF settings brother??
With cod4 mp i have it set with 2xAA 16X AF and all max settings but i have shadows off as this seems to slow it down when enabled. With these settings i get 100 - 200 fps with 1920 x 1200 res. The only time i drop below 100 is when there is lots of smoke and i get this with "soften smoke edges" on and off.
Just re-installed, with EVGA precision running in the background.
Same as Wilson except with 8xAA All bells and whistles including shadows 100-200FPS.
What drivers are you using? Best for me have been 175.16 and 175.69
RLM
i'm using 174.74
i'm playign at 4xaa full AF 1680x1050
single player frames drop below 60 and they shouldn't.
Have you disabled max fps from 91 up to 200 ??
You need to type this i think..
seta com_maxfps "200"
Is it just COD 4 that you have problems with?Quote:
I have max 95fps and min 58. I gues that in my COD 4 mutli GPU is not working. When i have this option disable i have 90fps when enable 90fps
Anyone have an idea how to make multi GPU working?
My dirvers are 175.16 from nvidia beta.
I remember reading others talking about only getting single gpu performance. I also remember thinking when taking the card apart, whether on some cards the sli bridge connections might of come loose. Maybe well off with that, but just a thought.
RLM
Didn't CoD4 have an issue with 4xAA? I believe it was resolved with newer drivers.
One more think to type is this..
seta com_hunkMegs "1024"
Default is only 512 and you should type in half the memory you have installed in your pc.
So 1024 for 2 gb and 2048 for 4 gb.
Oh and you may need to put the line in the cfg file if it does not have one .
Well done Wilson;)Quote:

So far i've noticed a major performance increase in windows xp sp3 :)
RLM - I only just got my q6600 stable enough to pass 3Dmark at 4005MHz and just managed to crack 21k . Its no biggie for you guys but it is for me , specially since I will never get the the next level without vmodding the card , or gettting a qx and Im not going to do either . While I wouldnt mind modding the card I will probably sell soon to grab a next gen card , this means Im in limbo for a couple of months ....
slugzkea - how large an increase are we talking about ?
.
Dreaming of a 280x2 :)
Loving and hating my 9800GX2, on the one hand it simply chomps through games, but on the other hand its extremely irritating that to get the benefit of SLi from games I have to do a restart when switching from my normal multi-monitor setup.
Well guys, a 20" LCD wasn't cutting it anymore, especially with the GX2 so I Got the ViewSonic VX2835wm.
The massive LCD came with a HDMI to DVI cable, and a regular SVGA to SVGA cable.
The HDMI to DVI cable does not give me any display through my GX2, so right now i'm using the regular SVGA cable with an adapter at the end going into my GX2.
I will eventually buy a full HDMI cable, anybody using full HDMI with the 9800gx2?
Any tips or opinions? Thanks
When using HDMI with this card, i can't seem to adjust my image settings manually and the main view is zoomed in too much, can't see the task bar or desktop icons, stuff like that.
help..?
What do I need to join the GX2 club?

Jeez your shaders clock much better than mine .
Hi guys!
I've read all of your posts in that topic and I must say I'm shocked how well GX2 works for you. I was wondering if you could probably help solve my problem. I have the Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 motherboard with AMD 9850 Quad Core CPU. I bought the GX2 and the overheating problems started as the card generates temperature 73C idle and around 83C at full load. Games used to crash the computer after about 1 hour.
I bought 2x 120mm fan and mounted one on the side of the case as intake and another one on the back as outtake. I also mounted an additional 60mm fan at the front of the case as an intake. I read that the GX2 card likes to heat up all motherboard components and that's why the system is unstable. This kind of solution worked pretty well for 1400x1050 resolutions I used to play in, but then I bought the 30" monitor and started playing on 1920x1080. The stability problems appeared again. I resolved the problem when I set up the fans on the GX2 at 80% and finally I can play without crashing, but the fans are loud as hell.
I read how you overclock your cards and get great results, but geez what kind of case cooling do you use? I can barely play with the heat the card generates at mere 12000 3dmark06 points.
I don't know who else to ask so maybe you can give me some ideas what to do, maybe another configuration of case fans is needed to better cool the inside or I bought the wrong motherboard to use with this card. I wish GX2 was sold with water cooling blocks :(.
Regards!
EDIT: The card is BFG 9800 GX2 and I'm using 175.16 drivers.
What case do you have? I have a Stacker 832 with 7x120mm fans which provides very good airflow. Although you seem to have a good number of fans in your case.
As for the GX2, I run my fan at 100% 24/7. This helps to keep the temps. at a reasonable level, although still quite a bit hotter than my 8800GTS ran with an HR-05GT/120MM Noctua fan combo. No such options for aircooling on the GX2, but there are waterblocks available for it:cool:
Guys i have no idea what to do with my setup i have quad sli two 9800 gx2's any guys you guys suggest i feel my system is over kill
My problem: i cant use two monitors on Evga 9800 GX2 !!!
- drivers 175.15 whql
- windows vista home premium 64bit
- two monitors turn on ( always )
- dualview function is not available in nvidia control panel
But when i mount Evga 9800 GTX KO everything is working
Some ideas ?
What rendering settings do you guys use in COD4 ?
I did have a strange grabbing on the graphics every 8 sec`s or so with the nvidia option so i changed it to AFR2 and got the same ,but with AFR1 it seems to have gone.
Any 1 else had anything like this ??
Update;
I decided to use the 175.70 beta`s and they work a lot better in COD4 than the 175.16 whql. They seem alot faster and i don`t get the grabbing when using Nvidia default or AFR2 on the rendering option.
We got some more beta`s out...

off course i'm going for nvidia top solution single GPU :p:
Does this mods work correctly?

Another 9800GX2 owner the cards great but im having some serious performance issues with Crysis.
Just got my EK block today for my BFG 9800GX2. Installed it and WOW. My first venture into GPU WC and there's a 50C temp difference (31C down from 81C under load in a quick crysis bench). Holy crap, I am amazed. Loving it. Now for the overclocking!
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the 9800gx2 cards. I am a user of the 9800gx2 Evga SSC model, and I have put modded 177.39 drivers in my system with the Nvidia Physx drivers in. I gotta say, these GTX drivers are nothing but greatness w/ the 9800gx2. The only problem I have is getting the 0x0000124 error to stop happening after I get past 3.5.
System is
Asus Maximus Formula Bios 1201
Q6700 at 3.5
4gbs of Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1066
Evga 9800gx2 SSC
WD Caviar 250/16
Cooler Master Real Power 750
I've taken out my Auzen X-Plosion 7.1.. and installed my onboard pcie sound card.. Still the same problems... Anything I should do differently?
Are the 175.19 driver just as crap 4 everyone else here or is it just me ???
As in no saved profiles and i got a dll error on both the install`s i have tried.
Do you have a link to the drivers your using ?
Cheers Paul
seems theres yet another version floating around, maybe two.
Check this You should find info on all the drivers and relevant d/l links. fwiw 177.39 has mainly had really good feedback and I can confirm that profiles are working with it.
do you have to install the physx 8.06.12 driver separately? or can you get the physx functionality with just 177.39?
do either of these need to be modded to work with the 9800gx2? if so, how? links? or should we wait for the official release supporting gx2?
I think you need both drivers and you have to add the modded .inf file to the folder prior to install.
Here is the 177.39 drivers and physx 8.06.12, and moded .inf files:)

Cheers for the link

So I go back to 177.39:)
i was only getting like 8870 graphics score in vantage :o, ur score is pro
however im rma'ing my graphics card monday becouse it keeps locking up ingame ohh the joys :/:/:mad:
There is a 177.41 out now lol all these drivers:rofl:
I know Vista works fine, but my Q6600 is bottlnecking this card during the GFX tests...
I get 18k with 776 Core 1852 Shader and 1103 Mem, increasing the CPU speed helps every time... I wish I didnt have this batch though... I can't even do 4GHz 1.68v...
Any ideas why my card is crapping out under XP but not Vista?
im running 177.40 drivers
Grid Demo running @2560x1600 does around 60fps, no AA.
PhysX works, vantage only gets 99ops in physics test.
Looks to me only 1 GPU is rendering for physX.

I found these tweaks for cod4 cfg file if anyone is interested.
seta cl_maxpackets "100"
seta com_maxfps "125"
seta snaps "30"
It seems that the cod4 engine likes fps of about 125 and with the maxpackets set to 100 it makes the hit ratio of your weapon more acurate. Not sure what snaps 30 does but its something to do with servers online. Just thought i would post this as it made my gameplay more smooth and i thought my problems where driver related.
And @ Malik that is one nice bit of kit !!
That tweak lowers ping, drops mine from 41ms to 25ms on my home server.
That is a wierd tweak that takes advantage of a quirk with the Quake3 engine the games based on, it basically allows you to jump ~9% higher/further.
And that one sets the rate at which the game updates the position of objects in the map including bullets, snaps 30 updates position 50% more often than the default of 20.
Good tweaks for that game. ;)
Love that block, would get one too, but funds are.... tight.
Anyone know why my 9800GX2 will work fine in Vista but not XP?
I'd really love to get this card working in XP because my CPU will be less of a bottleneck that way.
XP is iffy for me aswell.
For example Crysis DX9 XP runs a bit crap then I fire up Crysis DX10 Vista and it runs so much better. I think the drivers of late have really stuffed XP performance up with the card, at least in some games.
That's what I've been thinking too, because I'm getting utter bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: from my card in XP... I would like it to work in XP though, because hitting 20k in Vista is impossible with my setup... If only the SM2 and SM3 tests weren't single-threaded .

I am also getting some issues with XP. Lots of stuttering that's for sure. And I really don't want to go Vista (yet).
However, going off topic for a second, the new ATI cards are out.
and the 4870 looks quite impressive. Would the 4870 in CF mode be the 9800GX2's rival by a large margin?
or is that a pointless attempt for at least a 25% in performance gain?
Loser777 i have xp x64 and i seem to be ok with drivers 175.19 but i also have raid0 do you?.
And systemviper what v-core do you have for your E8500 @ 4.275 and also @ 4.51.
Cheers.
Ive just looked on nvidia website and 175.19 have been removed must be because of the missing profiles.
Anyway you can get them here.http://downloads.guru3d.com/GeForce-...load-1961.html
hey, even if i don't have a 9800gx2, i'm aware of this issue.
open your nvidia cp and head to the 3d settings. make sure "multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration" is set to "single display performance mode".
for quite some time this option defaults to "multi display mode", which causes this huge performance hit.
given the fact that you play games mostly only on one monitor at once one doesn't need multi display 3d acceleration.
with single display acceleration you'll only enounter problems, if you want to use a 3d application on both monitors at once, as in single display mode only the primary monitor will have gpu acceleration.
nonetheless, i'm using 2 monitors myself and have no issues with single display mode.
dunno if it was mentioned before in this thread. just wanted to spread the word in the hope it might be helpful for someone :)
I've tried that... every fix in the book... I've even installed XP 32bit to see if this would fix anything... apparently not...
