can fit the original NB cooler in the SB ? t will not run into if I have one 3870x2 ?
Does the transpiper fit on this motherboard?
yes, all motherboards with that pwm sink have the gap in the moddle support the transpiper
any idea when the UT version will be available to buy?
I have this memory (G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5) have the DFI LT X48 on order will this memory be ok can't find any info on what chips it's using.......I'm a newbie at this so expect lot's of silly questions :D
man the DFI's X48 really looks awesome...but i wonder if i should give up my P35 to get the X48. i'm just running a single card tho...
I sent an email to DFI about when the FK version would be available. Got a reply today.
"Dear Customer,
The first output will be arrived on early April. Please search www.Newegg.com for availability.
Thanks
DFI San Jose"
yes you're right.
that's what i'm thinking right now. x38 & x48 looks like same fsb limit with wolfdale :(
i have the latest UT P35 AB0 Revision & has better memory handling than my previous revision. it could run my faulty mem @ 1.9v :D
on previous board it need's 2.55-2.6v to run that memory.
what is better for quads, especially QX9650?The X48 or the P35?
P35 chipset would be the better to get in single card, but you are overseeing one key point that P35 is PCI-E gen1... with new faster cards such as the 9800GX2 using PCI-E gen 2 needing more bandwidth etc
I was going to get the P35 but since prices do not differ that much over the X38 i was to get that instead but now seeing X48 does DDR2 version why not better futureproof yourself?
my Q6600 could run 480fsb on UT P35 :D
Anyone using an Areca 1210 (or similar) type of raid card in the 2nd pci-express 16x 2.0 slot with success? If so, I might give this board a shot...
Hey guys, thought you might be interested in knowing that a new BIOS has been released for this board.
Link
Can anyone give us some photos with the X48 mobo and the Transpiper 1.0 installed?Maybe the Transpiper 2.0?
Any news when the UT will be launched?I'm interested only in the DDR2 version
So whats everyones thoughts? Should i go the x38 or the x48? im not looking at OCing (much....), or should i go with a 780/790i? Im just looking for a decent high end MOBO....
Thanks.
Keep in mind the 790i only supports DDR3, the 780i supports DDR2. This particular DFI board supports DDR2. The DDR3 version is yet to be released. The cost difference is very significant, so keep that in mind.
If you want SLI, it appears, from what I've seen on this board and reviews, that the 790i is the best chipset from NVidia in a long time. Though I think it needs to be out for a bit more time to make that determination.
If SLI doesn't matter I'd go for the X48 over the X38 just as a preference. I'm real happy with DFI's P35 though.
If you really don't want to overclock, I'd wait for the DK version of the X48 board. If you are not going to use CrossFire, I'd suggest getting the DK version of the P35 board. You'll save a lot of money and get an awesome board.
The UT and LT boards are designed for OC'ing and their price reflects this. If you don't OC you are not benefitting from the extra cost of these boards.
More to come :D Hope to put it under cascade ASAP.

some people here recommend the P35 over this X48.I am planning to get a QX9650 and I heard on some forums that this CPU has several problems with the P35 mobos(configuration not booting up),so I really do not think it is a good investment
well, then the highest FSB for QX9650 is achievable with what mobo?
The only problem I have had is that I can't install Vista (32 or 64) with any bios newer then 11/07. Of course this may have absolutely nothing to do with the QX9650, it's a pain though. I can install newer BIOS after Vista is installed.
Next time I install clean I'll make sure everything is set to default.

nice!
did you tried 500mhz fsb ???
Do you think all X48-TR2 Board get max fsb around 490mhz???
Im am not sure now which Mainbaord I should buy!!! I plan to buy the new q9450 and now I am looking for a nice OC Board.
I got this board (LT X48) today in the mail from MotherBoardPro and everything looks fine except the NB cooler. It is clearly used as it wasn't in plastic wrap and already had the fan clips attached. In additions, the bottom (copper that touches NB) had some form of corrosion or something... I cleaned it with a T-Shirt and Isopropyl alcohol, but it still looks ugly on the bottom. I mounted it all the same with MX-2 and hopefully it won't affect the temps.
I still think it's rather unprofessional of DFI to include a used and clearly damaged (perhaps only aesthetically) NB cooler with a $300 X48 motherboard. Frankly, I probably won't buy DFI ever again.
In addition, I noticed when looking at the NB cooler from the side that the heatpipe+fins were off center a bit, hanging if you will towards the other side. I gently applied pressure the opposite way and got it to slide back into the straight up 90 degree position.
Is the heatpipe supposed to be able to turn like this? I'd assume it would be soldered in and couldn't move... Unless somehow I managed to bend it with very little force...
well im thinking of running a system i can OC, (haven't OCed before and im a little nervous, especially with the prices in AU$)

Anyone using the Onboard Sound, ie; Berstein module and running at 500 fsb or over without probs?
Reason I ask, is that I can run 10kfft's and blend til the cows come home at 8.5x500, but Gaming?? Uh Uh :( I thought maybe it was my 2x2gb g.skill pc8000, but they ran fine with same speeds on my P35 DFI board.
Also lowered the clocks on my vid and dropped AF to nadda, same thing. Any input appreciated.

soundcard.
Ehh, got it figured out, I needed to up the vtt to 1.114v still within reason, but it made a big difference in stability. I find it odd that the VTT on this board when set to default of 1.1v, is actually 1.08v shown under load in SG. Shrug, all good now at 8.5 x 501 so far.
The sound out of the onboard is surprisingly good, well, compared to the TBSC anyhow :D
Thanks for the replys :)
Larry
-the stock X48 NB cooler is made by Thermalright or DFI?Is it efficient under overclocking?
-if it is not with what should I change it?
-also,the SB does or does not need extra cooling on this particular motherboard?
Jor3lBR,I really like your solution with the extra copper cooling on all remaining transistors
I've been playing with this board for a few days now. I've noticed the temps of the PWM area is pretty high. I've seen 50-51C and that's with nominal voltages increases.
I'm thinking of attaching the ThermalRight HR09 Type 3 S to the board. The website doesn't specifically mention the X48 board but rather the X38 board but since the configurations are exact, I'm thinking I won't have problems putting it on. Has anyone used the above mentioned heatsink on their X38 or X48 Lanparties?
They have not even had the boards long enough to send out and get a return at the time the OP was receiving his and then posting. Everything seems geared to being a conspiracy of sorts and I got my board right out of the shipping container and sent to me and the fan retainers are on the NB chipset fan and the heat tube fins were about 85 degreee from perpendicular on the LT X48 as they were on my previous X38 board. And no plastic packaging on my NB sink either.
Old OEM type 70mm fan cable tied onto the NB sink aimed so it blows at the video card results in NB temps that so far are never over 42C on my board when loaded. Wait until summer hits. Hehehe.
Can anyone please confirm which type of Thermalright mosfet cooler does fit on the DFI X48 model?
Also, has anyone tested the IFX-10 on this mobo?Does it fit in a Coolermaster Stacker 830?
true, but I was asking if it fits in the CM 830
Unless you have about 3 inches of top clearance from the edge of your motherboard and the top of the case ... it's too tight of a fit ... I have the Antec P182 and with my X38 board and the ThermalRight IFX-14 and its backplate (similar design) it would NOT fit!!
Did someone has the new Q9450 CPU??? Would be interesting how OC on the DFI x48 works with them!!
@ Forsaken1:
did you get FSB 500x 8 stable for some hours??
Rebel2k,did not run orthos/prime on that oc.Will try and run it by this weekend. There are alot of eager people wanting to see what this board can do with a 45nm quad.I just posted to show it will be possible to run 500x8 with similar setup to mine.Note ymmv. This Q6600 is average at best.
Still looking for a 45nm quad:) .
Got my board today aswell. Did a quick check and i got 505 MHz FSB on my E8500. And that was with 1,55V NB. I havent been able to test mutch more.
By the way. Im trying to get my new Dominator 8500 2Gb sticks, to work. They are running good now but there are so damn many timings in teh BIOS to set. Anyone have any tip on what timings i should use?
mine arrived today also. ordered enzo stuff for southbridge and mos, plus cleaning my DD block for the NB.
It should go under water next week when the Q9450
arrives....:woot:
What BIOS settings are you guys using for x3350s? Im having trouble getting to 3.6ghz, but im not very experienced. still not sure what GTL means.

Seams like my gamble didn't pay off.
Finally fired the X48 today and out of the box with same settings as X38 (low volts Q6600@3600Mhz and DDR2 @1200) the mobo doesn't boot at all with my 4 vs 1gb sticks of Ballistix...
Tried a couple of different things raising volts but it's a no go. When it boot's it freezes on Windows Screen or Memtest loading dos screen. Looks like it can't handle 4 sticks at that speed at all.
I get lots of frozen bios screen when hitting Del to get into bios (black screen with a small blue stripe on the bottom) and sometimes funny noise with a biosprotect error, detecting drive a to flash etc...
So I took 2 sticks out and board works normally with any combination of the 4 but only if using them in single pairs (all the sticks are fine)...
:shakes:

Finally finished setting mine up!
So far I'm on stock settings w/ RAID 0 on 3 raptors :) + 500GB 7200.11
my x3350 works like a charm!
Can't wait to tweak it tomm after work.
Good night!
Yeah, I can do that :yepp:
CPU-Z reported 1.05 vcore  @ 333 FSB
Forgot to mention that I'm using 8GB of ram!
I love the Diagnostics LED! Tells you exactly what the machine is doing.
I had a funny moment when it read, "FF" I was like -- 'Oh shiz! What's wrong?!'. Looked up the codes online and it means 'posting' :ROTF:
So I finally worked it out, I couldnt boot in at 3.6 for the life of me, I thought it was my Ram, but i didnt realize NB voltage needed to be so high in order to get high fsb. Now I'm purring along at my goal of 3.6.
Screenshot:
http://www.exoid.com/R1F/x3350.jpg
Now I need to tone down my voltages on everything that doesnt need it. And tighten up my memory.
Still a lot of work to do... Learning all the stuff in the bios...
400x8 with everything stock and auto.
450x8 posts... starts loading windows and crashes. vcore 1.3, nb 1.5...
Since i've been reading about the settings in my bios this morning I apparently need to disable the power saving features of the chip and i might be able to get into windows @ 450x8. The goal is still 4ghz.
Didn't have much time to play with it last night took awhile to get everything in my case... The IFX-14 barely fits and I couldn't get the HR-05 SLI/IFX to fit on my SB.
More to come tonight.
You don't have to disable the power saving features, I have all that enabled in the bios and im doing 3.6 just fine. I think if you are going all out on your overclock you would want that disabled, but for casual everyday use at a decent overclock, you can let your cpu cool down a bit every once in a while and get some power savings too.
Got it stable at 520x6 today on my E8500 :)
I know its not the same thing om Dual Core but it seems like this board can get some nice FSB clocks.

I'm having a real :banana::banana::banana::banana: of a time with this board. I have 4 1gb sticks of Tracers 8500 and I cannot get these stable. I am down to one stick and I can get into windows but forget about trying a fresh install. Just BSOD on me. I also think its a possibility my board is not a good one. First off my battery was crap. I replaced the battery and the board started booting better. What do you guys think would be the best 2x2 gb kit for this board?
@Jor3lBR
thx :)
nice - 4x1GB @ 1203 @ 2,1 very nice :)
Got my board today DFI LT X48 and have decided to go with water after looking at all the  rigs. Can you guys advise on what parts/water blocks to go for with this board? Currently using an E6600 will be getting an Intel E8400-Wolfdale.
Ok, So I didnt throw up pictures yet of the x48-t2r and how it comes all packaged and such.

Got mine yesturday, BIOS options are amazing (have had ASUS, Abit, Gigabyte, and Intel 925XE, 955X, 975X, P965, P35) compared to other motherboards I have used.
My X48 chip says:
NU82X48
SLASF
L746A792
Intel 07
Board seemed to be all new and not tampered with. The NB heatsink did have a "rainbow" stain on the bottom, but I think that is caused by the production process.
cbutters -- OMG your rig is VERY similar to mine!
I have it setup in the same manner. ~Seasonic PSU, x3350, x48T2R, 8800GT, TRUE, P180, and all!
I'm using a Scythe 3000RPM 120x38 mm fan on the TRUE, though. I also placed an Accelero S1 rev2 w/ another 3000RPM 120x38 mm
(sounds like a jet in my home :ROTF:)
My NB cooler came with that exact fingerprint too. Mischevious person put their fingerprint in the mold, maybe?
Thanks for the idea to place a fan before the HDDs. I removed the divider in the middle, BTW.
Here's what my stock settings looks like:

Not to argue, but it is my understanding that both the CPU and NB GTL settings are a % of the VTT. Is that not correct?
According to the Chart it is true.
http://www.edgeofstability.com/artic...fault_gtl.html
Larry
I see what you mean Sam:
So you calc like this:
For CPU GTL 0/3&1/2 = 0.69*VTT voltage
For NB GTL = 0.69*NB voltage
The original way of making those calcs are always to use VTT as reference in percentage, like Praz said. So all variables must come from VTT and none from VNB (so always apply 0.69*VTT voltage for CPU GTL and NB GTL) - it's strange I know
But for some like you seams to be the case that a stray NB GTL works better.
I will try both ways and see if I can get those 4 sticks running 1200Mhz 2.1v again.
yup thats how i do it works for me maybe i'm wrong
i run 4x1 @ 1200+ easy should be same or better on x48
edit: you right i messed up all gtl is related to cpu vtt pl voltage
back to drawing board for me i be makin some new tests
maybe i pass 555fsb lol
but funny how my settings workin for me
From page 24 of the X38 datasheet.
As it pertains to the chipset in this intance VTT is taken from the same source that supplies the processor.Quote:
Note: Unless otherwise noted, the voltage level for all signals
in this interface is tied to the termination voltage of the Host Bus (VTT).
From page 284 of the same datasheet.
http://www.edgeofstability.com/download/x38gtl.jpg
Notice inside the red boxes? 0.666xVTT_FSB. Northbridge GTLREF is set from VTT.
When it's all said and done all that really matters is one comes up with settings that work.
Guys I think I screwed up: I bought ram too slow for my goals. For some reason the only factor I weighed once the 2 diff ram types were in my newegg basket was price. I bought 8GB (2x2x2) of DDR800. Instead of the 1066
Right now I'm at 1.2vcore 3.2Ghz (all else stock; vcore could be potentially less)
I tried to isolate the ram and couldn't go much further than 800Mhz.
When doing 901 (for 3.6Ghz), I gave the NB 1.4 and the ram 2.25v (6x multi) and boot process gets hung @ first prompt. I've gotten REALLY rusty -- any ideas on where to go next? I would apprecite a good plan of attack to see if it really is my ram
Thanks
I'm using 2x of these:

I'm going to turn in, though -- enough for today. 3.2Ghz stable @ 1.18vcore all else stock -- not bad:D
QUICK EDIT:
I tried 450 FSB; NB:1.5v; 5-5-5-15 @901mhz ram...any suggestions on some timings? I'm thinking 2.20vdimm cos of all the ram?
I just got my system built this afternoon with an E3110 and i'm posting 9x445 (4005) at stock volts right now but i have yet to run any real tests. I'll report back tomorrow with some real results if time permits.
How did you guys mount a Thermaltake Ultra 120 Extreme on this board vertically, and cooling the NB too?If you mount the original cooler from the box,the TR 120 Extreme has to be mounted horizontally to fit,and this is very bad for the power supply if you mount it this way because all the hot air from the CPU,NB,goes there.
Does this problem dissapear when you mount a Noctua U6 NB cooler,if you have a TR 120 Ultra Extreme?
mrcape
what model exactly is this heatsink

Hey, for some reason when I have Logitech Setpoint set to it's own mouse driver as opposed to "OS's" I get complete system freezes when left clicking from time to time. I have to hard shut down when this happens.
Only component I've changed today has been the motherboard and PSU, this mouse worked fine before. Issue with X48? Or what?
Anyone else with a Logitech G5 mouse (or other I guess) had this issue?
no idea why u guys running so high for 1600fsb at those nb voltages
here is mine
everything at stock
just increased the fsb to 400 .. rest all at default
