Guys...I'm gonna mod my Galaxy 9600GT OC Edition vGPU. is it possible to do 900 core for daily gaming? And how much voltage is it going to need?
Hello
i bought this card few days ago, it seems that the pcb is not the nvidia reference one. I already looked at all messages & links but this pcb seems to be new , meaning that no Palit sonic neither vanilla, Sparkle, Gainward, Asus are using it. Twintech launched 3 models on the market, mine is the 2nd version. As u can look thruth the link , these is a xxt version with 0.8ns samsung MEM & heatpipe. Mine is not this one but pcb is exactly identical.
Bzw i wonder if 0.8 ns brings more increase in freq. up coz my card with 1.0ns samsung reach already 1200 mhz (without vmod actually).
So may some1 help please ?
Thanks

I had that card for test here recently, I got around 1200MHz overclock out of it on the mems which is like what others got out of it too. 1200MHz with 1ns is quite ordinary on 9600GT's though.
When voltmodding the card, don't try too high voltages, it don't think the RAMs will like it. Didn't had time to look for voltmods though, sorry :s
Hello Wittekakker
Yes i think 1200 mhz is usual for 1.0ns, i know that MEM vmod may help just a little , but high voltage is quite dangerous.
i m modding for a long time now ,all my gfx has been , like mobo & proco. In fact i mod since my Atari 520st in '87 ,which was not my first computer (oric 16kb mem in '83..........yes im old *but* not retired:rofl:
There are few who hit over 1150MHz on there 9600GT with 1ns RAM, let alone 1200MHz ;)
Use the hwbot charts for reference.
Four other 9600GT's I had over here did not get over 1100MHz with stock volts either, so be really good for that card with 1ns RAM and 1200MHz oc since it is among the best out there :)

EDIT: ATARI ST was my very first gaming computer :bounces:
@massman
LOL. I've been scolded by master guru. Haha...
I just curious, if I make the Vmod, what core am I able to reach for daily gaming if my temp are in safe area?
so nobody knows this pcb ? any idea about a vmod for that Twintech gfx ?
chip: rt 9259 for MEM : ok pin4 = fb , so need a vr between pin04 & ground.
st l6 713a fr gpu....... = rt 8802 from other card ??
Thks for help
Dr Love
Anybody got any updates in terms of disabling the OCP circuit? I have been in contact with Analog Devices, but apparently they do not carry the ADP3208A any more and have directed me to ON Semiconductor. These guys are being very difficult however and have replied to my first request for ADP3208 data sheet by saying that ADP3208 is a part designed for Intel mobile CPU and that I need to have Intel IMVP-6 license in order to get the data sheet
found few infos on ST L6713a : 16 * 4 pins on my 9600gt , as gpu volt controler (manager !).
L6713A implements a two/three phase step-down
controller with 180º/120º phase-shift between
each phase with integrated high current drivers in
a compact 10x10mm body package with exposed
pad.The 2 or 3 phase operation can be easily
selected through PHASE_SEL pin.
FB = Pin 22
OVP = pin 33
OCP = pin 35
What else ?
Nice, hope this brings progress. I'm dying to get water blocks and vmod, then chase some 88gt scores.
just bought Gigabyte 96GT...
i see in gamer hud that the Voltage max is only 1.4..
anybody know the max voltage that 96GT get especially this GV-NX96T512H...?
i wanna try to edit it from the bios using nibitor...:D
^^^ if you get thru do post that BIOS :D
^ I edited the voltage table using NiBiTor and flashed the BIOS on my 9600GT but it had no effect. The voltages remained the same. I am pretty sure that you have to physically set a higher voltage on the cards.
yep , there is no solution except vmod
aka for Twintech 9600gt
my 96GT is Dead ! yups it end up dead :D
but i'm happy though cause i can touch 900 core... :D with 1.55 voltage (bios mod) hahaha :D
to bad it dead when i bench 0n 3DMARK2001...
times to RMA though :D
nice done ! usually keep gpu safe < 1v50. Mod the bios & all will rule
yes u can have a look at the bios with nibitor.Dump it, edit it, fix it then save it.
That s all !!! works fine with gainward or gigabyte *but* not my twintech
So is somebody confirming that this actually worked for them?
I have found that the BIOS mod did nothing for me, but maybe I was doing something wrong. Could those that are claiming to be successful please post some instructions outlining what they did and maybe a confirmation screenshot that shows the new voltage measured on the card?
i never killed any gfx or mobo or even dvd/cd writter with a bios mod
Only high vmod did.
Voilà, it s my mind 'bout it.
Salutations:welcome:
^ what?
I was asking if you can post proof or confirmation of the BIOS mod working together with the steps taken to make it work.
^ You sir are not making any sense...
Has anyone figured out how to stop OCP kicking in yet?
I know, this is the longest no-result thread in the history of mankind. Come on guys, this is XS!
+1:up:
Yes ur right , u have a nice idea about that thread.
I asked for a vmod for my Twintech, no1 answered.
So i stopped to speak about mine *but*other 9600 launched on the market.
Sure i never bought those cards to only studdy their pcb, indeed.
I never tryied bios mod for those cards i don t own but did it for each gfx i bought for 10 years. (although i doubt a bios mod could work for 9600gt , even (over)burn it.)
Anyway this no-result thread results from a real pb with reference 9600 board (vmod not stable). it seems that exotic pcb may be vmoded . My card is an 'exotic model' but am i alone around to keep a twintech ?
As conclusion im agree with u, best is to move that thread into the blablabla section (without regret).
sinceres amities
Mr Prelim
For explanation when i said dump , edit then save bios it means that u have a margin for overclocking ur gpu & mem with a modded bios , even without a vmod. But u won t get so high u could go with a real vmod.
what u can change thruth bios values are gpu/shader/mem frequencies but not vcore or vmem . And when i see some1 saying that he burned his card with bios mod.......humm....black screen, freezing doesn t mean smelling smoke. I don t believe it. Pure joke.
sincerely yours
Anyone else played about with the Asus EN9600GT? Seems as though it undervolts by 0.1v so I'm guessing at stock (didnt' measure) it's actually running at 1v!
I really wish this OCP thing was figured out since playing with 1.45v (1.4v under load) I can run at 900mhz on the core quite easily it seems.
Does anyone either have some high-res shots of the backside of the Gigabyte 9600GT or know of the vgpu and vmem mods for these cards? They are non-reference cards and utilize a different phase controller.
hey Chris, just use the GIGABYTE GamerHUD utility, it allows you to push vGPU up to 1.4 volt. this is some result from my friend, just using this utility.

hahaha hai bang Benny :D nice to see you here
help my RMA gbyte 96GT please, it gave me a full artifak,it almost gave a new WR i guest, to jackteam, :D
well you know the persons who can cause my card into that situation....the persons is the third winner in Gigabyte overclocking competition 2008 in Jogja back days ago :ROTF:
Any vgpu mod for this XFX?
I couldn't find anything similar to this boards design around here.
I'm posting some photos of the back of the card, maybe someone can give me a hint.

Looks to be the same as the XFX 8800GT and GS:
http://www.techzine.nl/f/g/15255php4KGpRq.JPG
You probably need a 5k resistor voor the vgpu and 15k for the vddr.
Thanks, but I'm still confused. The layout on the pic you posted it's different than on the 9600GT.
hi guys! i have palit 9600gt non-sonic, without hdmi.

Hey guys, not sure if many are still reading this thread, but I found a PDF document on a part "ADP3208-D" variant. I'm not sure how close this is to the existing ADP3208-A chip, but I bet it's close, may shed some light on the Over-Current Protection issues?
http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions...s&category=145
About half way down the list there's an "ADP3208/D" PDF link.
Not that you need it now ;) this will give you .15V over what the HUD offers.

boostedevo and I were working on VID mods, doesn't seem as pressing now :D
well i have a biostar, i bought it for 99 dollars, anyway the top overclock was 740/1900/1080, i notice if i go up on the core it will freeze in crysis, and i notice a few times i been getting black screen when go into atitool, but i been on vista and never had the problem, i did the 1.2v mod and i get 75C o, in stock cooling thats the single slot, and i have to have my fan at 100%, i now get 800/2000/1145, but i notice it seems to do better under 56C cuz i 3can get 2050 stable under that temp but crysis and atitool been get black screen and got to restart more, idk i think this might be a driver issue, im now useing 177.41 in vista and no problems, i get 13800 in 3dmark06, and 32fps in crysis on high@1680x1050

will update with better ground points  now that I am reminded of it
Hello, Big thanks for that nfo, either u did it urself or only found on the net.As u can see, this Twintech 9600gt card is not a reference pcb, & chip vcontroler neither.
Thanks again , respect :D
Ya know a check point for vcore mesure ?
For mem, no problem to vmod , chip controler is a RT 9259a aka most 9600gt card
found it my self ;). this card is fun to play with , at the back off the R68 cap u can meseur one off the legs ;). runned the card up to 1.7vgpu with no OVP atm ;).
Hi guys...:)
Yesterday i decided to give it a try with my 9600GT...It's the reference design but when i looked at it,i was a bit confused...From what i've read in this thread,it SHOULD be 0-0-0-1 (for VID2-VID3-VID4-VID5 respectively) but instead it was 1-1-1-0...You may see it in the picture below (damn 2MP mobile cameras:p:)
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSC01060-1.jpg
Does that mean that ECS provides 1.15 voltage instead of 1.1?
Later,i found out that my card does not have two different states (2D and 3D)...Clocks don't change from 2D->3D,neither does the voltage,as tested with my multimeter.I bridged VID2 and it gave me 1.2 Volts continuously...
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...h/DSC01055.jpg
So it seems that ECS has only one performance state and so it provides 1.15 by default...after the mod i managed to run 3dm06 @ 800 core 2000 shader (memory does 2.200 MHz easily without mods, these Samsung chips are great:D),but it still freezes at some games and may freeze after 4-5 loops @ 3dm06.Should i go for 1.25V?
http://www.hwbot.org/listResults.do?...plicationId=12
Thx in advance!:)
^ looks like non-reference design. You will have to ask some of the resident experts.
Now, on to the OCP and OVP issues...
With a bit of creative searching and research I managed to get some info on the ADP3208 and confirm pin assignments for reference PCB.
Pin #12 - TTSNS - Thermal Throttling Sense and Crowbar Disable Input. A resistor divider where the upper resistor is
connected to VCC, the lower resistor (NTC thermistor) is connected to GND, and the center point is
connected to this pin and acts as a temperature sensor half bridge. Connecting TTSNS to GND disables
the thermal throttling function and disables the crowbar, or overvoltage protection (OVP), feature
of the chip.
Pin #15 - CLIM - Current Limit Setting Input/Output. An external resistor from this pin to GND sets the current limit
threshold of the converter.
According to an engineer I consulted we can increase the size of the resistor to increase the current limit. Doubling the resistor would double the current limit. The resistor that is being used currently is something around 200kohm, so let's see what we can do :)
Please post pics of mods :)
Sorry,i just saw your edit...
Non-reference,eh?My bad then...
Anyone with ECS 9600GT?:p: Tomorrow i'm gonna try giving 1.25 Vcore and see what happens with the clocks...Even though with 1.2V now i must keep fan speed at least 50% in order to avoid artifacts etc...
Sorry, my bad actually. Your card is reference design, and yes you had 1.15V set by default. I had the same on my EVGA 9600 GT cards. Just follow this http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/.../vidcard/150/2 for the rest of the voltage mods. Currently I am running one of my cards at 850/2108/1100, but the other one has the dreaded black screen of death so it does not go past 740 it seems.:banana::banana::banana:ty.
Anyway, increasing resistance at Pin #15 for me did nothing. Now I have removed that resistor altogether just to see what happens. Same problem, at the same point. It does not look like it is an OCP problem. I'll keep trying stuff out with it. This card is crap anyway and I've already abused it big time trying to solder on stuff :p
I have a feeling all the black screen of death cards are faulty by design. That is really how it is looking so far anyway.
Tried grounding pin #12 as well, with no effect. This is definitely looking like an engineering fault on ref. design. One other thing I noticed, funny at that is that I can push the faulty card to the same level as the good one, but I have to start the 3D app first and then OC the card. This also works for ATITool. If I start it at 675 core and linked shader it starts fine and does not artifact or crash when I OC to 850/2108/1100. However if I close it and try to start it again it black screens. It looks like it is some sort of voltage transition issue from low power to high power when going from 2D to 3D.
thx 4 the answer...tomorrow i'll try the mod and with a bit of luck i'll post 13k results from 3dm06...:p:
One other thing I found is that touching pin #37, VCC pin, the card black screens immediately. Same happens on both cards I have. I cannot even get any measurement off of this pin as just touching it black screens the card. Is this normal?
VCC pin is specified as "Power Supply Input/Output of the Controller."
Voila!:)

1.25 Volts...60 Celcius max with reference fan @ 100%...i don't think it'll do 850-2100,nor i want to try it,not a good time for RMAs...:D I seriously need a new cooler...
guys based on my experience the Gigabyte 9600GT, this VGA just can handle 1,4V max.
i think the core is can handle the voltage more than that, but the limitation was come from the voltage mosfet for the core. the max voltage is 1,44V, i found it on the datasheet of this mosfet
Went back to my 9600GTs after trying out the 4870 XOC BE and having more problems with it than you can imagine. Anyway, I posted some new scores in Vantage under the 175.16 (FM approved) drivers, and boy did I get nice scores with my new OC at 870/2157/1100. Check it out, especially the GPU score as my CPU sucks so my overall score is not the most impressive thing around...top 9600GT and top 9600GT SLI GPU score around :D

G'day guys..
i have this card:
http://www.mpinfor.com/images/ECS9600GT.jpg
i dont have a soldiering iron oe a multimeter to measure points yet..
anyway i have also attached a fan to the cooler and im getting 25d/c idle its begging to be overclocked, my question is what can i run this card at safely without volt mods ??
my stock speeds are: 650 / 900 / 1625
from what ive heard these cards arnt all that bad for cheapies..
so any info to what i should push to would be a great help.. i'll be strapped for cash for the next few months so cant even afford a multimeter or soldiering iron
Thanks again
And will it be ok to set using Nibitor editor rather than use rivatuner to set ??
one last thing has anyone tweaked the timings of the memory yet ??
The passive ECS 9600GT is a nice card... Overclock it as far as it is stable, you have to find that point for yourself cause every card is different.
Attaching a silent 120mm fan to the sink really helps temps, and you can do 1.4v GPU no sweat :D (with a voltmod)
For the MSI 9600GT that has been used in the recent contest, you need to remove R758 and R760 and replace them with 1.5Kohm resistors (original value is ~800ohm) to remove the OCP protection; they trace back to pin 7 and pin 8 of APW7088. This allows Vgpu adjustments of over ~1.25V, i could bench at 1.65V no problem.
Guys, can you help me a bit?
I want to volt mod my card, it's an POV 9600GT EXO and I can't get the correct guide for this card as it's quite not the refference model. Pics attached...mainly I just want to increase voltage for the memory not by much, hoping for a pencil mod. Which line on the PCB that I have to alter?
http://www.pointofview-online.com/de...ontent_id=1894
It's came default OCed to (c/s/m) 700/1750/975 and it won't go much higher than that. I could live with the core managing 730, but the memory only manage 1000...
Thank you in advance, any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Anyone can give me a pointer?
Hi BlackShogun
can you post some better pics of these areas (and read the numbers from these IC´s ... when the second is an IC :D of course - I don´t see from this pic :p:) ... the first looks like he controls the vMem
I also have this graphic point of view if you can discuss how to do voltmod.:D

I have an ECS N9600GT-512MX-P-Frontline, and I saw, it is not based on default PCB.
The temperatures are below 33 º C, then a vmode to 1.35V is safe. But I can not find a vmod possible for this card.

P.S.: Sorry my bad english
Larvitar chip at mosfet "APW....."?
Hello XS, I've modded three 9600GTs. One EVGA has done well. Raising the BIOS voltage seem to let me raise voltage above 1.15v. The other two, one EVGA and one PNY gives me the voltage kick. Not -0.00v but reverting to boot voltage, default 0.945v.
I've seen a few suggestions for OVP/OCP work arounds. Wondering what I should try next.
The PNY card worked fine once the VR was removed. The EVGA doesn't render 3D images with original BIOS and no VR anymore. It folds great @ 1.16v and 820/2000/975, but black screens apon 3D rendering......
I'm having issues getting this card to render 3D. After playing around tonight I was finally about to run the card at stock core and shader, but I had to lower the mem to 450Mhz anything higher and the card kicks it black screen.....
This happened right after I added a 100K VR and flashed the BIOS to 1.2v. Flashing the BIOS in the first EVGA seemed to open up the card up to higher voltage. So I was starting with the currant successful BIOS from the first card. Flashed it and the card loaded windows with 1.36v and started going black when attempting 3D rendering. Doesn't seem to be OVP but something is wrong with the cards OCP. Card trips to .95v and goes black.
Here are some pics of my noob soldering.:D
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...l/100_1097.jpg
is there a VOLT MOD PENCIL for my video card...
below is link of my VC.. pls i really want to squeeze all the juice from my card...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...d%20-%20Retail
VID mod is the way to go. I've modded three 9600GTs so far. Only had luck with one our of the three.
Did the VID mod to 1.3v. I used a 100K VR to tuner above that. With the 1.3v VID mod OVP and OCP appear to be gone. I was able to tune up to 1.42v, but the card just didn't like anything above 1.35v. Running on water.
Currantly at 1.333v 900Mhz core 2200 shader. Memory even with 2.2v doesn't like to go higher then 1053Mhz. I even tried loosening the timings. I'm just gonna stick with the 2.0v mem and run it at 1000Mhz and 1053Mhz for benching. I might go back and try to tighten the timings.
I owe credit to CL3P20 at OCN for helping me with this mod. We used a lot of the stuff from this thread as guide lines for testing.

so, i have an EVGA 9600GT, i believe it is reference
is there any known voltmods here for these cards?
i see some of you mentioning you hit high core clocks etc with vmods, but you get the boot once you hit 3d mode?
i'm really wanting to get a nice cooler for this card, pick up another and SLI them
but idk if i want to without vmods lol
so any verified success with vmods?
(for 24/7 use on a good air cooler)
edit:
i forgot, i saw these http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/.../vidcard/150/2
a while back, has anyone here tried this with any success? or does this still trip the OVP?
That's the mod that worked best for me. I've modded 3 9600GTs and only had sucess with one card. the other two had a OCP that wouldn't allow the card to go over 1.2v.
VID mod!
I would say. ~1.22v with stock cooler, ~1.28v with an after market air, and 1.33v has worked well with me on water for 24/7 settings.
To get above ~800Mhz keep temps below 55c with air.
ok, so i just reverse the mod if i get OVP problems or is my card borked?
and why 55c? thats awfully low lol
my card does 710/(linked, i forget)/1100 i think
(its been in my buddies pc as of late, long story short we temporarily traded cards because of PSU issues)
so you're telling me, i will only be able to hit 800mhz with a 1.28ish vmod on the core?
oh, and what about the mem? you have any expertice there?
I didn't say 800 was the limit with ~1.28v, just getting above 800 will require low temps. At ~1.28 you should be able to reach ~860 with good cooling.
As far as memory goes, I'm not having luck with my card. I think the increased heat on the PCB is holding me back. I also have a 780i NB fan blowing hot air on the back of my card. I've seen a few run 1200 with 2.2v. You have put a VR or use the pencil mod. Both work great, just be careful with the pencil mod. It doesn't take but just a small touch of graphite.
hey guys can anyone help me?!?! i seem to be missing something here as this card is nowhere near reference.

anyone ever see this card layout before?
I'm haven't found a VID mod for the xfx design yet.
Same here im looking for the xfx 9600gt 512mb v.core volt mod , same card as punx223 on his pictures , any guidance or help with the voltmods will be really apprecaited.
chispy.
the chip looks to possibly be the same but it is a richtek rt8841
http://www.richtek.com/product_detail.jsp?s=448
but with the design im having a lil trouble figuring out hat i need for it.
Im wondering on this design if a soft mod would work?
has anyone tried?
I've not tried the BIOS mod on an XFX card yet. I can tell you on the EVGA, BFG and PNY cards that voltage increases in BIOS made no change in voltage except for one randum EVGA card. When the BIOS was set above 1.2v it took the card up to 1.39v. You can always try. Odds are it will act like most 9600GTs, but you might be lucky. One was to find out.
If you need info on how to flash in Windows let me know. I have a nice guide with pics.
hello all
i am italian boy:D
i read this fantastic post and i have made my vmod with a little
edit.
I can choose the voltage when i want by a little micro switch:)
what do they think about it?:)
http://www.justoverclock.net/out.php/i5656_0001149.JPG
http://www.justoverclock.net/out.php/i5666_core.jpg
the frequency core max is 880mhz to 1.40. The temperature is
too high
and the vga does not rise beyond.
At future i must use phase change on the vga for 1.5v.
Hmm, I can hit 925Mhz with 1.40v. Also you can add a VR to the vGPU point and increase voltage a bit above VID before hitting OCP. If you notice OCP being a problem increasing the BIOS voltage can help.
Love the switch for VID though. I bought one of those, but didn't take the time to solder each wire. Just to lazy. Very nice work!
thank you.
i think that the problem is the temperature (about 36°C full load 1.40).
if i can, i use my phase on this vga but it is very difficult because my phase is for cpu:ROTF:
scuse me but what is OCP:D?
and how can i improve max core?
Well, since your not using a 100K VR on the vGPU mod then 1.4v VID comes to ~1.35v idle and ~1.3v load. Add a VR and you'll have 1.38v idle with VR set to max (100k) value. You can then adjust the idle voltage to 1.45v. 36C is fine for up to 900Mhz. I can run 900Mhz with 1.38v idle voltage with my cards running 40C load. You can just chill your water by moving your rad to an AC duct blowing cold air and easily get some benchies over 900Mhz. I was able to run 3Dmark06 with 925Mhz/1.4v load temps @40c.
OCP is over currant protect. If you get black screens while increasing voltage with VR and your card defaults to ~.95v then you've hit OCP. If card goes to 0.0v then you've hit OVP (over voltage protection). I've yet to hit OVP on any of the 9600GTs I've killed so far. The VID mod takes care of the OCP for the most part. Only had a couple cards that actually needed the BIOS mod to get past OCP.
ohhh,
Perhaps I understood:asd:
o stabilize the voltage should I use this additional mod?
