Thanks Jimmyz!
Bo fox, with regards to HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios and this guide http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...8&postcount=35 which lines in bios you editing in hex editor ?
Using Hxden my HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios is default 720/910
720mhz reverse hex = 401901
910mhz reverse hex = 786301
voltage next to these entries has reverse hex = BE04 = 1.214v
When i search for these values, there's 6 results. 1 entry at near top of file, and 5 entries grouped close together.

Thanks very useful info :)
Question do we need to edit 2D voltages for higher 3D clocks ? Or editing 3D voltages only is fine ?
I just edited my 512MB HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios (dated 29/11/07) - changing 3D voltage to 1.327v and clocks from 720/910 to 736/982 and fixed checksum to original bios (7300).
Then compared it to Bo Fox's HIS HD3850 3870 Load bioz (dated 28/11/07) which had clocks set at 736/982 with 2D and 3D voltage changes.
Attached is winrar file with my bios and bo fox's along with the differences.txt file from hexcmp2.

Bioses http://fileshosts.com/videocards/HIS...50_bioskit.rar
Weird, tried flashing my bios and it flashed but when i go into windows rivatuner is blank and doesn't report a card at all .. flashed back to original bios for now.. anyone take a look at my bioses and see what i did wrong ?
When flashed the reported device id and new bios version are also blank for me ???
thanks
edit: flashed with Bo fox's HIS 3850 736/982 with 2D/3D volt modded and that worked fine clocking to 837/1098 for 3dmark05/06 :)
Thanks use this bios http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...3&postcount=90 after unsuccessfully editing my own HIS HD3850 IceQ3 Turbo bios and happy to say I've gained some ground :)
before
2x 512MB HIS HD3850 IceQ3 default 720/910 oc'd to 783/1098mhz CF via ATI CCC.
after
1st card does 837mhz GPU
2nd card does 824mhz GPU
haven't tested max mem yet past 1152Mhz.
Gunna freeze this card tonight, hopefully I can get past that 800mhz limit I had before, otherwise I know its a BIOS issue.
strange I still seem to be doing something wrong using hxden to edit my bioses ?
I tried editing bo fox's HIS HD3850 bios from 736/982 to 810/999
hexcmp3 differences
And still when using atiflash 3.49 when i flash to 810/999 version my bios version goes blank ??? flash back to bo fox's version and fine ??Code:Different between:

attached bo fox's bios and my 810/999 and also 810/999 with same checksum as original 736/982 bios of 7500 (this one flashes with bios version intact but rivatuner shows blank device)
Stuck at 830 under dice, argh. I dunno if my card just clocks like crap or it is BIOS..
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/4561/jan43du0.jpg
i tried bo_fox's bios with 3870 voltages, flash was good and i have now 2d/3d clocks working properly, overdrive also works but somehow my core still stuck at 763mhz :(
any ideas why i can't go over 763 mhz? the card iddles at 42ºC and full load peak is 63ºC...
with 3870 voltages my card should heat a bit more but it didn't happened, weird stuff...
another question: what's the best way to find max core? how do you guys do it?
thx in advance
edit: i double checked and overdrive doesn't work, not a big deal lol

Hey.
I just bought Gigabyte's HD3850 512MB with Zalman cooler.
My cards core went up to a stable 785 core and 900 mem @ 3D Mark06. Crysis crashed with those settings.
From Rivatuner i got this info:

Is it possible for me to go for 900 core and 1000 mem. If someone is willing to mod my bios?
my bios version is: .068
But now the problem for me is to save my current bios. So far i am not able to do that. If i make a MS-DOS disk, i can access it in windows, but it wont boot up from restart. 1st boot device is put to Floppy. But it says Floppy Disk fail "40". So far i am not able to make bootable USB thumbdrive as well :(
@Viilutaja
just save your bios with Atiwinflash, open AWF hit the save button, choose a name and you are set.
Ok, thanx, i got it saved. Can anyone mod this bios for higher 3D clock voltage?
I also looked what memorys are on the PCB. There was:
Hynix
HY5RS123235B
FP-14 731A
VTFF1400G1
For me its really hard to read out what kind of ns those memory modules have :(
@eva2000, glad to hear that your card also benefits nicely from my bios. when editing, just edit the grouped-together parts, not all 6. After editing something, the checksum will need to be corrected again before flashing for better compatibility ( I think)..
@zuelber, maybe it's because HIS bios cannot change voltages with other brands? What's your brand?
in Crossfire i revert to stock bioses without voltage bios mod.. so stock bios no mods CF clocks are @783-796Mhz GPU for both cards with mem at 1098mhz all done via ATI CCC overdrive.
Oh so you only edited 5 out of the 6 entries for for 3d clocks.. wonder if that makes a difference as i have yet to be able to make myself a 810/1000 bios that works heh
How do you get so high memory clocks? Mine goes only to 880 with ATI Auto-tune. And in rivatuner the 900 seems to be as far as she goes :(
Does this Hynix memory suck.
And anybody? Can somebody help me to mod my bios, even if someone would help me to find those hex values what to change, i am up to do those myself.
no idea.. both my cards probably have samsung memory with rivatuner in single card without ATI CCC can clock memory to 1152mhz without artifacts and 1172mhz with very very minor artifacts.
I think I reached my limits. Anything higher crashes 3DMark06 halfway through the first test.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/7...rk11515hh1.jpg
I have a Powercolor Xtreme 512mb but the retail bios was a HIS 067, that's why i tried your bios. With retail bios i can't overclock 1Mhz even with CCC. Is atitools accurate for artifacts scan? Cause that's how i found a 763 mhz core limit and i didn't tried anything higher than that, should i?
I have no idea how you guys even get atitool to work. The only util I can use is riva.
I can do about 1100-1110mhz mem with this qimonda. Some say it dies at those speeds tho so I generally just run it at 1000-1030.

I had to back off to 770/1000 because the ati driver crashed every 15 minutes playing COD4. Prety stable after that.

ATI Overdrive has not worked since the flash. I can start it up and it just sits at the default clocks until I cancel.

Got a Diamond HD3850 256Mb...does it works? Some tried it?
Which voltages are changed? Core or mem o both?
Can anyone mod the 760/950 bios from this site to have more voltage on 3d only?
http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
Bios works great for me and allows ccc to overclock to 900/1150.
With that bios ive been able to pc to 770/1140 so I figured with a little more voltage I can get the core a little higher.
Thanks again.
hello, great work on these bios's guys
Could you mod my bioss with 1.33v 3d and 760mhz core and 950mhz mem please?
Is it possible to remove the 860mhz limit too?
Thanks

What's with these "Xtreme" folks that are scared of a hex editor? lol :)
i tried the hes editor and almost lost both cards. luckily i have my mx400 pci card as backup for bad flashes.
I really need a bios with more voltage, unlocked and has high ccc oc options. All the ones ive tried are only one or the other. the one from
http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
works great but im sure I could get higher clocks on the core if it had more voltage.
edit: Does overdrive stop working for everyone and these modded bios's? I really need overdrive to clock my cards in crossfire. I cant seem to clock both of them with anyother program. Im running vista 64 so only clocking with overdrive works.
edit again: I guess the bios in that link is a locked bios. all the unlocked bios's Ive tried max out at 730/1010 in ccc. is there any unlocked bios's that go higher?

You folks would be better off waiting for MVKTech to get the new version of RaBIT out so it's easy to edit the BIOS. I've had little luck getting more of an overclock by changing the BIOS voltage anyway. 770 MHz is about all I can do on my 3850 X-Turbo III, even with the BIOS set for 1.312v. It only gets you 1.28v (~ +0.06v) or so anyway.
Overdrive stops working yes. I think a checksum fix might get around that, but I haven't been able to figure out how to fix up the checksum.
Go pester the folks at MVKTech for me. Maybe they'll get more motivated to finish RaBIT. :)
They made those BIOS files with the official AMD editor. Who knows how they got that. Another 0.06v on the core might help you a tiny bit, but a pencil mod would do even better. Of course, you're getting into scary territory if you push it out of spec. I fried a Radeon 9700 doing that years ago and don't go there anymore because of that.
w1zzard on tpu said you CANNOT get more than 1.3v by a bios edit.It can only be done by hardware. The 3870 has 1.33 stock anyway, but the 3850 is 1.24v.I tried a modded bios and it was only 1.28v in 3d mode. The only way is a pencil or trimmer mod.

If you want a BIOS that removes the 730 Overdrive clock limit on the card our buddies @ MSI set try the Powercolor or Sapphire BIOS below-
http://www.mvktech.net/component/opt...tfolder/cat,1/
I'd like to find a BIOS that causes the fan speed to increase when the card heats beyond 80C. Right now my fans stay @ 25%. I can manually push them up with Rivatuner though. If they moved to about 50-55% @ 75-80C that would be nice.
Karwa, it'd be best if you flashed ASUS card with Sapphire's bios, it's in newer version (071) and lets you clock above 862MHz. They both use the same PCB and memory (I checked) and Sapphire bios works on ASUS (I checked, too)
Here's Sapphire bios modded to 1.327V and with 2D clocks disabled:
http://profide.eu/files/karwa.zip
I have measured power consumption before and after flashing, and disabling 2D clocks does nothing. Power consumption is still ~230-240W when cards are idle (cpu loaded).

with the sapphire 3850 512mb, CCC hardly allow any oc at all (720/950 lock).
is this a lock in the bios?
I found this, so I guess it is..
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/3706/bios3850zd9.jpg
is there anyone who have edited these values? and what is BE 04 doing there again? I compared the sapphire bios to a HIS oc and it is basically the same apart from the clock speeds.
I know riva works, Im just curious.
Could someone please mod my bios to 1.33V? i cant pass 770/950...
thanks.. =)

can someone modify this to 1.33v and increase the default clocks to 730/2000 thanks.
Hello people, I'm new here at extremesystems. Been waiting for like 2 weeks to get permission to start posting. I need you experts to unleash my card which has given me a lot of sorrow.
I have a Gigabyte 3850 512mb (ultra durable 2). The problem is that it has a different PCB compared to the standard one and runs at lower memory speeds aswell (700Mhz). So I tried a pencilmod by reading some threads, but it didn't work because of the different layout of the PCB.
Now what really drives me insane is the different BIOS it uses. It prevents me from using any of the modded BIOSes.
I would like to ask if someone could take a look a my BIOS and raise the voltage to 3870 levels. It hasn't been done yet for this card and there are more people around the world who are aching to get a modded bios for it.
So please anyone who feels up to it, take a shot. It would be the first modded BIOS of it's kind I guess.
Its not that hard.. Just that I dont want to be responsible för anyones dead 38xx

checksum fix is also explained
but if the card dies, can i recover by another vga card in pci slot (only for boot the pc)?.
Dont know how bad you can screw up the card with a faulty bios???
Otherwise, yes. Or you can do it blindly.
Thanks for your input! I've done it!
I was hoping for more than 1,28v, but this limit seems to be the same as on the other 3850 models. It runs at 800Mhz now, I was doing 756 before.
I was getting a black screen at first, had to fix the checksum :D
Although I don't understand why it won't allow more voltage. It has exactly the same PCB as the 3870 model from Gigabyte. Only the memory is different.
Anyways, thanks again.
Here it is for download (Gigabyte 3850 512MB BIOS):
Could someone please explain to me how to fix the checksum. I've read the previous pages but i couldn't fully understand. I attach you the original bios and the modded bios (changed 3d gpu clocks, mem clocks and voltage {750/2000 1.33volt}) but I get a blank screen after reboot. I think I've done it everything right except from the checksum that I don't know how to fix it.
If someone could explain to me how to fix it, or fix it by himself, I would be grateful.
My card is a sapphire 3850 512mb with quimonda memory.
You can download the original file from here http://www.megafileupload.com/en/fil...GINAL-rar.html
and the modded file from here http://www.megafileupload.com/en/fil...ODDED-rar.html
First of all, thanks to all people who have contributed to this thread. Using the provided info, I have modified my VisionTek HD3850 256MB bios to 810/1030 (1.33v) and have been enjoying it since a while ago.
Now for your checksum issue, it's very easy to fix:
Open your UNMODIFIED ORIGINAL bios in HexEditor. Click on "Analysis" and then "Checksums/digests..." and chose "Checksum-16" and click ok. Write down the value (which will be "5F00" in your case).
Now repeat the same thing with your modified new bios and write down the new checksum value (which is "5774" in your case).
The whole issue of fixing the checksum is just about doing additional changes in the file, so that the checksum value of the modified file is equal to the checksum of the original file. In your case, you have to increase it from 5774 to 5F00 (we are obviously talking about numbers here... hex not decimal, but numbers nonetheless, right?) So, you have to add values somewhere in the modified bios to make the checksum increase. In order to avoid messing up with the file, people have used the message area right on top of the bios (... YOU HAVE NOT CONNECTED THE POWER CABLE TO YOUR VIDEO CARD.PLEASE...) since this is just a warning message and changing its content is not going to affect anything. If you check other modified files, most people have changed around the "VIDEO" word. So, go to the value right before the "VIDEO" and click there and change the first number to "F" (remember that we want to increase the checksum and "F" is the biggest single digit value in hex just as "9" is the biggest in decimal). Repeat the steps above and get the checksum. If it's still smaller than your original checksum value, continue with changing next numbers to F up to the point that you exceed your original checksum and then, start changing the last digit to smaller values (e.g. if changing the last value to "F" resulted in your new checksum being "5F03" which is bigger than the original value of "5F00", change the last "F" to "C" and so forth so that the new checksum is exactly equal to the original one. Save it, flash your card with it and enjoy!
Of course, here in your case, we have to increase the checksum value to reach the original. If the modified bios has a checksum greater than the original one, it is exactly the same, but this time you want to change values one-by-one to "0" instead of "F" to make it smaller...
Hope it helps!
Thank you very much my friend. I really, really , really thank you. I have spent many days trying to figure out how to use a hex editor at first cause all the bios that i had downloaded didn't work for me. And when i did, i had a blank screen cause i didn't know what was the problem (checksum). Finally everything is ok. Again, thank you very much.
You're most welcome guys! Now it's your turn to share the knowledge if anyone needed help.
All the best!
What about Gigabyte HD3870 512MB DDR3? It uses Qimonda DDR3 memory chips, and the bios should be a solution for locked 3850 512MB eighter.
I can post this bios very soon, just need to know if Qimonda is a thrusty brand of chips to go.
I already tried the Gigabyte 3870 bios on my Gigabyte 3850 512mb. Doesn't work though. The picture I got was all scrambled. Maybe I should have waited to load windows, but I didn't.
The cards have the same PCB, exept for one tiny chip on the back side. The 3850 has 2 of those chips, but the 3870 has 3. The spot of the third is empty on the 3850 board. And the DDR3 memory is also different. 3850 has hynix.
Yes I did. I posted the modified bios on this page.
guys,,,,is there a way or a section to mod the fan speed ????
my gigabyte 3850 512mb has hynix memory on it
i pm'ed hola but never got a reply.
Ok folks, I think our HexEdit and checksum correction days are finally over. I came across this thread (german anyone?):
http://www.computerbase.de/forum/sho...d.php?t=372893
And here is the link to the ATI 85xx BIOS editor:
http://www.aledander.de/vb/ati_bios_...tibiosedit.zip
Change whatever frequency/voltage you want in a breeze. Could anyone test it to make sure it works? I'm a bit busy right now...
Enjoy!
I just tried the app. Did not flash with new bios until I can confirm the checksum, etc.
I used the HIS 3850/512 bios file that I'm currently running on my Sapphire.
There is an error in the Voltage dropdown. Instead of a dot, it is a comma (1,327 and not 1.327) and saved bios file gave an error on opening. If you type the value manually, it seems to save correctly and opens the file with set values.
EDIT
Just noticed at the bottom of the app window is a checksum display. Both the stock BIOS and the modified show value of 7500
EDIT AGAIN
Just ran this on a Sapphire bios I have on here, and noticed on the bottom of window that there is a checksum correction taking place when the file is saved.
I'm not at home now, so I can't try flashing just now.
I tryed several bioses versions to use on my PowerColor (All working) and Connect3D (more problematic). But none of them allowed me to go further than 762Mhz event with VGPU set to 1.37V
Perhaps, depending on the manufacturer, some HD3850 VGPU can be changed within the bios others not.
Other testings: I tryed also different revisons (065, 067, 070, 071 and 073).
The one giving the best score in 3DM06 is the 073 followed by the 064 and the worst is the 071. (Testings made on PowerColor and Connect3D)
The differences sometimes are huge....
has anyone tried the modded bios for the GeCube 512Mb 3850 OC X-Turbo? I have just ordered one and wanna see if what results others have had while waiting for it to turn up :)
Please, somebody mod my bios with the HD3870 voltages and correct the checksum..i can't pass 770 mhz on core  ..Thanks for all :)
I have managed to reach the 857.25mhz clock limit on by 256mb powercolor hd3850 using 1.39v (1.327v via bios and the rest using a pencilmod).
Does anyone know of an unlocked 256mb hd3850 bios?
Thanks.
this is mine Bios ,.. got the HIS 256MB
Bios Settings are : 750 - 950 @ max Voltage as the Bios settings can give.
No LOCK...
I got mine card @ 931/1026 with additional pencilmods
I tryed 1.327 too, but i only managed to get 1.23 in multimeter. Default is 1.214.
result ??
which software using for biosmode
when i press load bios...

Ive tryied 2 different unlocked bioses. And with neither of them i cant lower the 2D voltage. Ideas?
Does anyone have a mod for the Gecube version with 512 MB DDR3 and 668 , 1400 mhz clocks?
What program can i use to read the current bios settings for my card?
