I agree so far no descriptive info and allot of b*tching!
there was some people who posted temps of some mild overclocking of the q6600.
p.s. Brother_Esau make sure you read my pm
so far it seems that there's no concrete result of G0 will be O/C better than B3
After one night of Prime95 running my G0 Q6600, it's 100% stable at 3.4 GHz, 1.375v (I raised it a bit to be sure, might be able to run at lower voltage). Temp is 52C on the hottest core with a Thermalright SI-128 and Silverstone FM121 fan. Ambient is 30C (take this into consideration).
Cannot run higher due to my Bad Axe 2 limitation so I'm looking to get a P35 motherboard and push it higher. The temps is good, a bit colder than B3 reports.
ive got a B3 stepping and im running into a problem....
my cpu is now at 2.84Ghz - x9 multi - 316Mhz Bus -
when i try to raise the bus to 333 it wont post.. even if i raise my fsb voltage much higher (to 1.375 i think) and cpu votage to 1.4..
can you guys give me voltages which you use please! also, am i able to lower the multi?
I really want to jump on this CPU but I am not happy with the board selection out now. I really wish the new DFI P35-T2R was available so I could get everything at once. The fact that I can't get the IFX-14 in Canada yet either shoots all my cooling down too. I guess I will just have to wait despite the deal of these chips probably being over by then.
Man, I can get a Q6600 B3 for $295 CDN today! But I don't know if I should wait for the G0's instead. Is there that much difference??
I got a Swiftech setup so cooling doesn't worry me. I wanna know if an extra 200 MHz on an OC is worth waiting though.....????
Any thoughts?? Anyone got definitive results of B3 vs G0 ???
Mine just arrived from NCIX (Canada to El Paso on the Texas Mexico Border) in 17 hours.
g0 Stepping, I will post results later as I am getting right to testing.
I can't imagine someone who lives in Canada not going to NCIX or ordering from them when their cpu's are $298.99 CAD & G0's. They will run cooler regardless of overclock. My B3 overclocks pretty well and that was on air. I doubt the G0 will be worse, just not maybe 4 GHZ.
bit-tech take on refreshed chips, q6600 G0

Well, nothing I tried recently - I live here in the US since late 90s. :)
However here's the main price-checking site I know (think of pricewatch or pricegrabber), you can start your search here: http://www.depo.hu
Here's a direct link for CPus: http://www.depo.hu/index.php?pn=prod...d=&start=0&o=m
Best if you use the Product Search http://www.depo.hu/img/termekkereso.gif function: http://depo.hu/index.php?pn=search&h...hcat=0&x=0&y=0 - just click on the product and you'll get a list of (r)etailers with prices...
i think b3 will do the same as g0 and to prove it when i get my q6600 i will overclock the beast to its max and give you my temps for b3 and believe me i will show no mercy :-)
^^^ I like your syle ;)
Well, NCIX's sister site, Direct Canada, has the B3's for $295 and free shipping IIRC.
I've used both retailers and I could care less who I order from if the price is right. But I am just debating whether to hold out for G0 and it's worth the hype or if it's mostly hype and the B3's will do just fine.
I got my chip, installing windows on the testbed now.
Booted at stock volts, 3.1 ghz no problem, so I'm installing windows at that speed lol
I don't think many people will see the 4Ghz on air right now. This is reminiscent to last year when the core 2 duo ES were hitting 4 Ghz on air 1.6v or so and 3.6 Ghz 1.4v or so. Then upon release most struggled to get even the 3.6Ghz stable with 1.55v. I myself went through 3 chips until I found one that would. Later when "b"s came on to the seen, some would hit 4Ghz on air but the chips ran much hotter than the "a"s. I think most of us will get oc's similar to what the B3's and some will fair a bit better. To anyone looking to purchase a Quad now & don't have one, if you can get a G0 do so as they should at least run cooler than the B3 counterpart.
i dont think the g0 quad wil git 4ghz on air =/ highly unlikely.
i just got my b3 yesturday and i'm v.happy with it. it booted straight up @3.2 with 1.34 vcore. if you are having trouble clocking up your q6600 at that speed and your cpu temps are fine, try lowering your ram speed. i would expect your cpu to boot @2.8 with that vcore but if your ram or mch was having trouble you could expect it not to boot at all.
just keep on experimenting as i'm sure you could get more out of that chip. good luck.
And now we have 226 posts with no OC results. This will be one hell of a thread once we see some test results. This could be the longest thread ever with no real information.
And I am guilty of contributing to the nothingness too :)
Preliminary results:
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/9...600loadik1.jpg
vcore: 1.2625 in bios, 1.248 real.
mine should be in by saturday.
going for sucide run @448x9 right when i pop it in
screw letting the paste set:ROTF:
i should have mine friday from ncix. im going to lap it and then fire it up and post results shortly after.
After some fiddling, I'm now set on 3.4 GHz 1.4v (F@H SMP is getting errors after a while at 1.375v). I used CoreTemp 0.95 which should be more accurate and the hottest core is 72c (28c ambient) instead of 57c from SpeedFan (5C under ambient at idle is impossible so adding 15c make it accurate enough).
Here is a screenie of the current settings :

the editor was a bit lazy and used eVGA image instead of taking a photo of the XFX mobo lol
xfx is getting their moment in the sun with beta guys at least as nvidia is sending me one of XFX boards for testing.....i assume they've sent them to reviewers as well for a bit of publicity

if you have the skill could you consolidate all the results like the conroe overclocking database so everyone can see how every go stepping is doing!!!

This Guy hit 3.6 8 hours prime stable so far and the temps look pretty good, he is on water though.
Okay here's my preliminary results.
3.4GHz (378x9) at default voltage settings (1.360 in CPU-Z). Running dual Orthos Small FFTs for 20 minutes now. Air cooling only.
3.5GHz it immediately errors out. Looks like I'll have to raise voltages to get over that hump.
Error at about 28 minutes for one set of cores, the other one seems fine. Going back to 3.3GHz (366x9) to find the Air/Stock Voltage stable point.
GUYS GUYS GUYS
INCLUDE your CPU Batch# and VID PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE
we need to weed out the dogs from stars
Hmm, I'm a newbie at this so where can I find that out?
Well, my chip just shipped from NCIX and it's a B3. :(
that sucks
buy another one :D
On the box it'll tell you the product code. If it ends with SLACR it's a G0, otherwise not.
Anyways.
Batch# L723A930 (Pack Date 7/13/2007)
VID readout from Rightmark is 1.163 to 1.313
The shipment invoice has the product code of the chip and mine ends in SL9UM. The guys who already received G0s from NCIX verified that their invoices showed the proper SLACR product code when their chips shipped.
So be aware folks, NCIX isn't completely out of B3 stock yet!
Hmm, when did you order yours? It could be that you simply got the last of the B3's...
I ordered at 10AM yesterday after everyone started crowing about how they had only G0s left. :D
Mine just shipped also & its a G0. Tomorrow afternoon I'll post some results. Just trying to decide between air or water for my initial tests. I'll probably use the corsair nautilus with stock block or Apogee GT block. I'll go for highest suicide Pi & 3DMark 06 stable first:)
Coretemp says 1.1625V during idle. 1.3125V during Load (I have EIST on).
*edit* Hmm, wait I didn't set it properly
The multi is changing because EIST is on. So it's 1.3125V at 9X. Not great, but at least I'm getting 3.3GHz stably on Air and default voltages.
keep in mind 70 may seem hot
but this chip will handle it, that was some of the reasoning in intel lowering the power usage, so people could spin down HSF on the quad, it would run hotter, but not be noisy, the 100c tj has alot do with that.
so if mine peaks out at 70c load. i wont be worried. its within spec.
and one could enable EIST to throttle down the cpu, to prolong the proc. I have eist and speedstep enabled on my 6600 and it runs fine at 3.6.
So, where are all those peeps that told us they would be back with results
Who says I've no love for this thread, well, I'm a little late but better than never :D
You all probably have read this thread, but if you havn't, please go here to read my complete OC journey on the new RETAIL G0 Q6600:

Ladies and Gentlemen: Allow me to present you Prime Stable @ 3744mhz results !!
The system has being running nonstop for two days. So far Prime stable for 4 hours and 20mins and counting! Overall this is one FANTASTIC chip that's prime stable on air at 1.4560v and still under Intel Thermal Spec's 71c :D I can't get any happier than this. (Notice that my Ballistix Tracers 8500 are running below its stock clock? nevermind that bcos it's capable of going up to DDR2 1200 or 600mhz at the current given volt of 2.2 and timings ;) My next screen shot in the near future will show much tighter latency at the current clock and voltage, hopefully)

Show Off:D
@ ExtremeTiramisu
My VID is the same at 1.2625v on B3, wonder how they stack up :)
My B3 shows a VID of 1.2875v in coretemp... can you have a look at this thread I started about VID and see if you can answer my questions?
THanks!
i am so close i cant wait to watercool case finished im currently working on my tj07 just got two rads to sit nice in bottom look at liquid cooling section if you want but both rads will cool my b3 aka g0 killer lol
like i said on the ncix forms, nice and congrats.
All that talk about g0s, made me check my email

if I can hit 3.6, I will be happy... anything else is a bonussssssssssss!!
If I get a good G0 chip do you guys think I should be able to at least hit 3.4ghz stable using a Asus P5b deluxe board?
Just received my G0 today and put it through a quick run. I was initially disappointed at the high VID but the chip is really surprising me. I suspect the chip is capable of much more but I'm running into some funky fsb holes on my 680i as well as the fact that my tuniq fan crapped out so I'm using a really low power fan (45 cfm). With my coming Ultra 120 extreme which I intend to lap I hope to shave off another 5-10 degrees off that temp. Looks like these G0's are legit.
Edit: Ambient ~ 27 degrees

I want a Q6600 now :(
I........................must..................... .....resist  :(
my ambient temps are pretty high in here about 80F which is about 27C so at 3.3ghz my voltage is at 1.375 in bios, 1.33v in speedfan idle and 1.28v in speedfan under prime95 load all 4 cores.
temps are about 65-66 load under the above. all prime tests listed using small ffts.
i want watercooling or to get my new apartment soon. if i was at a ncie 21-22C in my ambient, whole nother story.
time to start researching a good affordable starter WC rig.
i ran this chip at 1.4+v in bios and ran close to 3.6ghz with prime going on all 4 cores and temps were hovering at 70c which i dont like. again ambient temps messin me up on air but the chip was plowing through prime no probs.
air is so dependent on ambient. i am measuring core temps in coretemp and voltage in the latest speedfan.
-------would the swiftech h20-120 premium help me out just to cool my quad?
i know this chip has a lot of headroom but i am limited by high ambient temps.
^^ Get a WaterKeg III.

not in my budget :(

just got my Q6600 L724A784, priming now for 30 mins @ 3.6g, 1.5 bios vdroop to 1.4v max temp is 65c in coretemp 0.95. so far satisfied and try push it more later.
Wow, another 3.7ghz Q6600! NICE! Man I cannot wait to get mine!
Good Job Denden. What was your vcore?
Them G0s are making me drool....
I have 2 on order from Tankguys and I can't wait!
i feel really left out with my new B3, i've only hit 3.8Ghz so far :( with lower temps than that last screen shot with same waterblock and 1.55v. what rad's you running. i'm in the uk, but in a room thats 3 walls in sun most of the day flat roof above, south facing and side wall, plus another overclock x1900xt/6300 rig in room and light from , well, a big hot uplighter :p
but i've got a external rad(external to case) 3x120 rad and a 2x120rad in series. two silent fans running on it at the mo, the Q6600 has a 2900xt overclocked in the loop aswell. i'd say, B3 ain't that bad. its a L717A441. not done extensive stability testing, just brief benchies as i try and find a rough maximum speed at the moment.
Q6600 G0 7/13/2007 L723A930
Boots @ 3.8ghz with 1.53V (1.5 in Windows) Not stable though.

best i can do on air with this ninja right now in summer weather.

cant wait till i have 250 or so to blow on WC just for the quad :D
nice oc's guys. you 3.6+ crew are kickin ass.
ive booted at 3.7 but it is not small fft stable without givin it more volts than i care to :(
just got mine installed
went right for 400x9, would lock up, even with 1.5vcore set in bios. Ill have to try for that later. Waiting on my ultra 120 to come in.
heres a pic running prime 95 on 4 cores.
core temp seems to be showing correct temps, but iam not certain after reading on here. Iam gonna try to lower the vcore gradually at this overclock to see if it will remain stable at 3.4ghz. I have 4gb, 4x1 installed, that could be holding me back, i was at 3.6 easy on my e6600, but never was stable past 3.7..
FPO/BATCH#L720B023 pack date 07/12/07 G0
http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/...lipboard01.jpg
2 cores are at 68c right now, other 2 63c..eekk.. should be fine, the paste hasnt settled yet.
argh.
nice clocks, i cant get mine past 3.4 right now. setting 400x9, 450x8..vcore set to 1.55 even in bios. the system will hang or reboot in prime95 on all 4 cores. Very annoying, iam wondering if my psu isnt quite up to snuff with the new quad installed. I was able to bench 475x8 on my e6600, 12hrs stable @ 3.6 easily.
i didnt really change any chipset volts with the quad, just vcore.
i guess i didnt get a nice chip.
who else has #L720B023. would like to compare...it looks like the L723A chips are doing much better than mine. i may just send for an RMA and see if i get a better chip
@strange|ife - your VID is pretty high (1.300V compared to most g0 chips that I have seen which are 1.2750 or below). Might wanna do that RMA.
i think its a real crapshoot, a few people in this thread also have 1.3 vid. and still able to obtain at least 3.6 stable it looks like. yet the guy benching at 3.8, has a very low VID
so yeah monday morning going to call ncixus, and see if they cant do some type of cross shipping. With my luck ill get a B3 LOL
It's not fair or "nice" to return a CPU just because the VID is not as low as you expected it.
My Q6600 G0 also has a 1.3 VID. I can boot @ 3.8ghz but I'm having a hard time keeping it stable.
Also, keep in mind that the best boards to overclock Quads are the ones based on the P35 chipset, followed by the 680i boards!
