Has anyone flashed with 0302 yet and if so is it any good?
That is good news. I would like to try this myself. Is it possible to install the driver on an existing Vista 32 installation? or do i need to reinstall the OS?
I tried to run the driver but it came up as "this computer does not meet the minimum requierment to install this software" error.
If i decide to re-install, how do i make a driver disk out of it?
Many thanks for your help.
EDIT: berdde, you are a STAR!!!!!! IT WORKED! Many thanks!
Just got my board from the Egg and I am priming at 3.6Ghz with the 204 bios (it was already installed), no SATA II issues at all so I am happy with the board, the thing that I like the most is the .01 vdroop =).
I have zero clue what most of the bios settings do so I am going to take it slow and learn as I go, any pointers that you guys feel like tossing my way would help alot though.
Old & worthless :rolleyes:Quote:
The beta bios 0302 for P5K Premium
Looking more like a 'hardware' fault and not a single peep from ASUS
Ready to RMA my 2nd one :shakes: One more try and thats it!
Yes I have it on, the Bios is set at 1.43v and the Asus Probe II reports 1.42v, I am not sure if that is correct or not but I'll live with .01 hehe.
Oh man I so want this board, but due to my last OCing board(DFI CFX3200) having crazy hdd issues, I will def steer clear until its fixed. I still want this board man. Hopefully the blitz doesn't suffer from this.
This board sucks really, ohhh man. Have the 0302 beta bios running now but had 2 times a BSOD today. My new XP installation took me 3 hours because the pc could not find my hd's.
Next week im off for 3 weeks to the states for a holliday, when i return and there is still no better bios update, than i will dump the board. And i will never buy a Asus again.
I am running the 302 beta bios with a Xeon X3210 G0 and this thing is great. It runs 3.0GHz (kinda like the QX6850 at stock aye?) at 1.25vcore with 3-3-3-12 timings. 3.6GHz with 1.42vcore at 4-4-4-12 timings and 3.8GHz at 1.53vcore with 4-4-4-12 timings. So far I have had no problems with this Premium board.
When it works it works great i know.. I have made great runs on the board, but for 24/7 use it has too be stable.
I run the 3.6GHz settings 24/7 with no problems so far (about 2 weeks).
Well i have just swaped out my PK5 deluxe for the PK5 premium black pearl
system is 1000w enermax Psu
PK5 premium water cooled - D-tek fuzion CPU swiftech N/B
Q6600 GO L720B058 pack date 15/08/07
4 X 1G cellshock 4-4-4-12
GTX 8800 water cooled D-tek
3 X seagate 7.10's 320g
2 in Raid O and 1 slave
Netgear N speed wireless card
X-meridian 7.1 sound
1 X 18 speed DVD-+R
Currently running 3.6g just as 100% stable as my deluxe M/B bios is the one it came with 0102 i wont bother updateing untill i see some advantages of doing so as from what i can gather the new official bios dosnt offer anything extra.
Things ive noticed diffrent with this board. it dosnt do the double boot like the deluxe did. it just boots once when the power has been off. also shutdown seems alot smoother with the premium. the deluxe would kinda shut down with a instant cut off, this board seems to shut down in a relaxed way is the only way i can describe it.
so far this seems a little better than the deluxe board but i wouldnt say it was worth the upgrade over the deluxe. great board though just like the deluxe is:)
I have my x3210 running 3.8GHz prime stable. However, I hit a FSB wall of 485 this morning trying to get to 4.0GHz. I really want to see how far this board will go on the FSB so now I guess I will have to pull my Xeon 3060 from my work rig. I know that has a FSB of at least 550.
I have P5K Premium and Q6600 G0. I also have 2x1GB DDr2 1066 Crucial BallistiX Tracer (goes 1200mhz+ with stock 2.2V).
I don't know why I cannot pass 460-470FSB for the CPU. There is a limitation in the CPU?
The CPU goes 3800mhz and maybe more, as long as I don't pass 470FSB..
Maybe there are some special settings to do in bios ?
My mobo has been send for RMA today, i have asked for a refund. No more P35 mobo in my pc, will get the DFI X38 in 4 weeks when i'm back from holiday.
Well, I just got this baby fired up tonight and so far seems OK. Small 25% overclock on stock voltages just to break it in :) . Running 3 x 320Gb Seagates in RAID 0 mode with no problems to report also.
2 weird things though
CPUz (1.41) shows my core speed 1000 below what its actually running?? so it shows 2003.9MHz when its really 3003.9MHz and a multiplier of '6' when its really '9'??
Voltages are way off the mark!! These read +3.3 @ 3.28, +5.00 @ 5.51 and +12.00 @ 9.61!!!! WTF
I then tested in 'Everest Ultimate' to make sure CPUz and MBM weren't giving false readings and they show exactly the same figures there too??
Checking the BIOS itself shows the voltages and core speed to be what they should be and not the silly numbers above.
Any ideas??
Also disable Speedstep....
if you are running Vista go into the power management settings and set it to "Performance Mode". That should do the trick...
I have found 0302 very stable and has my Go Q at 3.6g on water 100% stable. i found the release bios 0102 really flakey. when flashing to 0302 you get found new hardware and have to re install your GFX card.
i think this beta has a major change in the bios, thats why it does the found new hardware in windows after flash. iam running 4 X 1G cellshock PC8000 at 4-4-4-12 2.2v 450 fsb 1.1 and its 100% stable with the new beta bios 0302
dont forget to load setup defaults after flash and reboot before changing anything or you could get unstabilty as the bios hasnt reset from your old settings.
use ezzy flash from bios, not the asus update. and enable USB legacy devices in bios before trying to find your USB flash pen.
i think 0302 is a great bios! even if it is beta
good to hear that its developing well. I'll wait for the official though...
Hey guys, if any of you have the SATA problem maybe you want to try the following:
1. Install 7.5XXXX SATA driver.
2. Flash to 0302 BIOS.
3. Change 'plug and play OS' to No in BIOS.
GoodLuck
The 302 BETA BIOS has more Booster Level
Enable: 1,2,3
no try level = 0, too slow ;)
266Strap, Level 1 = Performance Level 6
266Strap, Level 2 = Performance Level 5
266Strap, Level 3 = Performance Level 4 <== I think, result in no boot :D
333Strap, Level 1 = Performance Level 9
333Strap, Level 2 = Performance Level 8
333Strap, Level 3 = Performance Level 7
Hi ,do you have a link to 0302

No issues here with 0302 :) never had to install my GPU again either :D
What's this booster level thing do??
hi scara
it changes the perfomance level of the chipset which alters the internal chipset latencies to make it faster or slower
I did solve my problems with X-Fi and P5K Premium with latest intel drivers 8.40.XX drivers. The sound return to be perfect.
Any more tests with 0302?
this board looks nice, i wouldnt mind it, but the x38 has pci-e 2.0 so i would rather wait for that.
The driver name is INF_AllOS_8.4.0.1016_PV_Intel.exe.
Here is the link http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=eng&PrdMap=36
My PSU is a Bequiet Truepower 550W
Thanks. I take it you don't get the double boot issue then?
yes. never did have problems with double boot problems
Ok...got rid of the double boot issue. It was caused be my Thermalright IFX mini heatsink that goes under the mobo shorting out. Yanked it out and dropped my Tuniq Tower back in and all good.
Sound is fine again as well....
Today... sniff sniff. The problems with X-Fi are back. After a week with no problems, and i didn't change anything in the pc (hardware or software)...
I didn't had anyproblem with the Evga 650 ... :(
I used older creative drivers and it solved the issue for me. Don't use the latest WHQL driver but the one just before it. Sorry, not at home so don't know the version number...ends in .0012 if I remember...Vista btw.
Hi
Im looking to get this board for new build using PX9200 OCZ Flex XLC 4x1gb sticks, and a q6600 G0 SCLAR. Using water cooling is this a good board to hit 3.6Ghz all the time? Id love to hit higher, *cough*4ghz*cough* or would i be better getting 2gb ddr3 and X38?
I think if you have a go chip then 3.6 should be well within the limits
Got mine Thursday and thought I'd got one of the bad ones. Just had to get rid of the nvidia raid on the HD's. Not to bad of a prob.
Been playing around with the board, everything works great, going to see which size stripe is best now. But no problems with board, loaded with 204 bios, made in TW. Lost my water pump, but I have a Q6600 G0 with the stock cooler running @ 356x9 with 1.25vid. This board seems great so far.
I have the same board.
Made in Taiwan, shipped with 0204 BIOS.
And unfortunately, my P5K-Premium has that annoying abnormal SATA issue.
I'm using the 5000AAKS WD drive 500GB in AHCI mode and Vista 64bit.
The installation process took 1.5hours which was rediculous. Especially in the expanding file in stage 2.
I thought flashing to 0302 beta BIOS will somehow fix this damn problem but it's not. I get this intermittent system freezes due to the infamous mobo's SATA controller. You can identify the HDD led is on full blue means is on max loading when the system is unresponsive. You have to wait like 2-3 mins for the HDD to finish loading whatever it's loading..
Just exactly like everyone describes on every other forum, Asus support forum...not even my P5K-Deluxe does this....
I'm going to RMA this board in and get a store credit and use it towards the upcomming X38 mobo.
While the the system is running fine, the HDD is smooth and fast. HD tune reports very fast read/write/burst rate speed for one 5000AAKS HD under AHCI configuration, Avg 68mb/s and 112mb burst rate. But as soon as the intermittent abnormal HDD activity kicks in, I feel like I'm back in the P2/P3 days...OMFG....
I hate Asus's so called - 18th anniversary BLACK PEARL special edition Marketing bullsxxt crap....
Yes, I've tried everything I can to try to solve this but apparently, I think it's a hardware related issue like everyone else.
This is my 7th system I build/OC this year so I'm not a noob and I know what I'm doing...
Anyways...just to let eveyrone know that this mobo particularily, P5K-Premium is very buggy in terms of its SATA controller, other than that I belive it's a step above P5K-Dlx in its OC-ability. But it's useless to point out what good is left when the basic PC functionality fails to perform....
It seems the WD drives are one of the worst with this board. I gave up on WD 3 years ago and went with Maxtors & Seagates and I've never been happier.
The Maxtors, where the OS's and games will be
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1...ntelraiae0.png
The Seagates, backups, music & movies
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/4...ntelraibs3.png
Hope you get it all worked out for you, what ever you do. I wish I could get the new X38 DFI baby! I may for Xmas!
It's not the WD 5000AAKS 500GB fault.
Cos it's running lightning fast in AHCI configuration.
Please note that I only have ONE hard drive. Not like the RAID config u have there.
The following screen shot was taken today. It was from my P5K-Deluxe system. I've the exact same drive in my P5K-Premium system. Both have identicle HD bench results from the latest HD Tune.
While the system runs ok in the P5K-Premium, the hard drive activity and everything else are fine but as soon as the abnormal HDD activity kicks in, the system would freeze for 2-3 mins. This happends intermittently which is veyr annoying to a point that I cannot use the system and I'm using my P5K-Deluxe..
As for a single HD score, it's cosiderably higher score than a lot of other single HDD bench I've seen from others running in IDE or AHCI.
This is with the newest Intel storage manager driver. I noticed the curve and the burst rate is smoother and a bit faster than the previous driver :)
http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/1...54benchtm4.jpg
mine is a TW that came with the 0102 bios
i still got the double boot problem...
installed server 2003 x64 with no problems, besides install being really slow on my raptor. ended up running it in ide mode
i think I am also going to rma it and also just get credit aswell....
also I think my p5k deluxe is a better oc'er
I installed 0302 beta bios... but then for whatever reason, windows only saw 3 cores... could have just been a bad flash, but decided to go with 0204
Very impressed with the P5K Premium thus far
Some results to come, takes .5v less on this board for processor, as well it runs much cooler than the deluxe.
:banana::banana::banana:ty board, running mine(look @ sig) and it has the same freaking problem with HDDs.
Returning this :banana::banana::banana:, im going with DQ6 and the hell with asus.
I've had no problems. This is an awesome board! :D
Damn, just saw dq6's gimmick pipe...i cant mount my tuniq there...DAMN!
Well it was tricky at first with the bios resetting and the norm learning curve learning the board..but thats what patience is all about if you want to Oc.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/godsa/loveit.jpg
Not sure how good this is but looks good to me :)
Avoid WD&Samsung HD if you use P5K-Premium. Seagate works very well on this mobo.
Greetings!
No problem here with Raptor, 5000AAKS and 3200JS.
I've seen a report, I think on another forum, that the newer Samsung Spinpoint drives have firmware that is incompatible with new Asus boards. The forum member had confirmed this through extensive testing and discussion with Samsung tech support who confirmed the bug.
EDIT: Yep, here on this forum - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=156540
I'd guess none of this is relevant if you connect the drives through a hardware RAID controller, which has the advantage of avoiding the chipset SATA issues so many seem to report and allowing full portability of the RAID arrays when you change mainboard.
Yes, but i didnt pay for a top of the line motherboard, to use an additional sata controler..it has to work OUT OF THE BOX...and is not OC problems, it has problems on STOCK...so go figure.
Im not pissed cause of the problems...im pissed because Asus doesnt say :banana::banana::banana: about this problem, they are ignoring their costumers...and thats bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:.
At least for now, im not going with ASUS again...just like i did with BFG and their faulty 79s.
Finally a good one. Guess 3rd time is a charm. At least now I can find out what the boards like for real.
Just last week I got the premium and it refused to run with my WD 500gb AAKS (the only drive i have). I had no choice but to return it, and got a deluxe which works perfectly fine.
Hello all, new here. :)
I just want to report that my system is working great and Im running it on 0204 bios.
And I have no trubble whit my diskspeeds althoug Im not running RAID.
System:
[Chieftec Mesh Miditower]
[OCZ 700W GameXstream]
[Intel Core 2 Duo E6850@543x7=3,8Ghz]
[Tuniq Tower]
[Asus P5K Premium]
[2x1024 Patriot Extreme XP2-8500@1086Mhz 5-5-4-9]
[2x300GB Seagate SATA, 1x500 GB Seagate SATA, 1x400GB Samsung SATA]
[Geforce 8800GTS 640MB]
[Samsung 204Ts 20" TFT]
[Windows XP SP2]
I find the P5K Premium issues confusing to say the least.
Many say WD and Samsung have issues, many say Seagate is fine, a few say only newer Seagate Sata II's (3gb) are ok.
Some say a new motherboard fixed the problem for them, some say a new Rev 2 motherboard was the cure.
One got lucky on his third board.
Some have changed the WD or Samsung drives to newer revisions of same model, and have solved the issue.
Some took the drives that didn't work, and found they worked fine on other boards (such as Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6, or Abit IP35 Pro, or Asus P5K-E).
One had no issues, but then the problem occured despite no obvious change being made.
I'm curious to know where the issue lies, as I can't see why the P5K-E or P5K Deluxe should be any different - yet they have few issues of this type.
What perhaps we know for sure, is the problem hard drives typically work on another motherboard - and the problem Asus P5K Premium motherboard typically works with other drives (Seagate).
With all the variables, I don't see (and I'm not defending them) how Asus can take the blame or create the fix. Although I do think they have to issue a statement to give some clarity to the next step.
I'd hope it was Asus hardware design or production fault, or a bios problem - which could I'd have thought been easily defined in a consistent way, and a remedy proposed.
Could it be a heat issue that causes damage (if OC too far), loose board coolers (heat syncs), cables . . . who knows.
I was about to buy the P5K Premium (with Q6600) until XtremeTiramisu announced he was having problems . . . I wonder if others that haven't reported problems haven't yet found them, or if others are remaining quiet until they have tried every option themselves to remedy the issue..
It was enough to put me off buying the board, so I had to look at alternatives;
Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 with Q6600 - but bios ease of use is a concern
Abit IP35 Pro with E6850 (due to vdroop concerns) - but slow 1394 is a concern
Asus P5K-E with Q6600 - but the cables/brackets I'd need to buy make it as expensive as the Premium
I only have Seagate drives - lots of them - so find myself coming back to the P5K Premium, after all it's a sexy motherboard, with all the 18th Anniversary Black Pearl marketing hype.
What is it that Asus could have done to the ICH9R on the Premium to have caused these issues.
If anyone has some clarity to the numerous different experiences of (perhaps) the same SATA drive compatiability problem, I look forward to hearing them . . . so I can decided whether to buy the Premium or the DQ6 once and for all.
The way I see it, most people here when they buy a new motherboard use the same RAM they used in the last one. If it's proven good, they keep it. It's an investment. Same with a good processor, if it's a good clocker. So all I'm saying is that a good offboard RAID controller is a similar sort of investment that you can carry forward from board to board.
On top of that, it has the distinct advantages (as I said) that it not only allows you to move existing RAID arrays without problems between boards, but it totally insulates you from the regular problems being reported with chipset SATA controllers on *any* board. One rarely if ever hears of problems with particular drives and RAID controllers, as known incompatabilities are generally noted in detail in the controller manual. Perhaps the controller card manufacturers feel they have more to lose by not fixing incompatability problems with popular drives, and vice versa the drive manufacturers feel they have more to lose by not making their firmware incompatible with the popular controller cards. Maybe the torrent of new mainboards is just too hard a moving target to chase for the drive manufacturers. And if there is still a problem you've clearly got a better chance of confirming it and getting a driver/firmware fix from companies whose reputation and business is built solely on mating drives with hardware, unlike mainboard companies.
Frankly, I've heard so many reports of SATA problems with on-board chipsets (and subtle ones too, that only show up when doing high-stress verifications using software like WinRAR and QuickPAR that aren't easily traced to memory problems) that I'd never trust an onboard SATA controller anyway to attach hard drives to. From that standpoint, getting a good offboard RAID controller isn't just an investment, it's solid insurance against problems later. And the best part is that you can use the board you want and take advantage of its killer features, like the PK5 Premium which has so much going for it, without having to worry about this unfortunate little wrinkle which seems to affect people randomly and inconsistently.
Well..a lot of people here seems to use Samsund HD but are not happy with the performance but I can not use it at all! I can find the HD in bios and in some software as Everest for example but not in Vista under "My computer". I have read a lot of firmware and bios issues but will there be a solution to solve this problem??
I cant found the satadrivers some talk about on Asus homepage?
so what's the verdict? is it worth all the fuss?
rma it for a P5K-Dlx?
i'm having some issues with the SATA DVD drives and for sure i dont want to hold on to a MB that's going to give me woes down the line...
my RMA date is running out too...
My suggestion for everyone who has being experiencing difficulties with P5K-Premium's SATA issues is just RMA the mobo and save yourself the trouble and any possible grief. At least that's what I did as soon as I'm fed up with its SATA controller issue on the Premium board I had (Made in Taiwan, 0204 shipped bios).
Same system components in the P5K-Dlx setup works like a charm but in the premium it just fxxked up. Not even the silly beta 0302 BIOS update can solve it. Tired of waiting and wasting another sec of my life in putting my trust in ASUS to release a "working" bios for the Premium. I'm not alone, hundreds of ppl over at the Asus forum are also experiencing this issue.
If you can't wait, just get a P5K-Dlx as it's cheaper than we once had to pay when it first released. Asus P35 series BIOS are known to be quite mature upon release and the newest beta BIOS 0503 for P5K-Dlx has even better overclocking-ability. I couldn't even set the transaction booster to enabled and +1 even with DRAM static read control dissabled in the past with older BIOS, but 0503 has solved this issue for me. Currently has my system OC'ed to DDR2-1175, DRAM static read control dissabled, Transaction booster, level +2, 5-5-4-7-3-30-3-3-8 :)
I've find the Asus P5K series bios to be the most overclocking-friendly than other P35 mobos. It's really to get on with abundant of helpful BIOS configuration shared from the Asus OC community.
If you can just wait a bit and don't mind paying a little more $, Asus x38 mobos are just on the horizon
well, i've submitted a RMA for my P5K Premium...
contemplating whether go the P5K Deluxe or wait and see what comes over the horizon...
This mobo is almost perfect for OC. But like other ppl here i have a big problem to boot with any WesterDigital hard drivers  So i bought cheap Maxtor and now everything is fine :p:.So ppl if you want to buy this mobo and you have some WD hdds just buy Maxtor or Segate hdd and everything will be perfect
My best with WC @1.6v

Recently removed my P5W-DH and replaced it with the P5K-PRE and now happily sat at 3.6ghz with my Q6600, 1x WD RaptorX and 1xSeagate drives both picked up and working as they should. The only issue I have is now my 8800GTX squeaks when shutting down the system, I can live with this but does anyone else get this and has it made any differance using anything higher than the 0204 bios? Never did it with the P5W-DH so must be card, mobo combination I guess.
Also can anyone shed some light on some of the voltage bios settings and what the hell is vanderpool tech?
This happens on some ASUS/8800 combos, your mobo is shutting the 12V rail off a bit to early, causing the card to scream for having not enough juice :)Quote:
The only issue I have is now my 8800GTX squeaks when shutting down the system
Vanderpool Technology (VT) is Intel's virtualization technology which will let computer users operate separate virtual environments in the same PC.Quote:

Disable is best if you don't use it ;)
I decided to stay with my prem, re-flashed it with 0302... going better than before...
any ideas when the 0304 is gonna be released
As far as I know, I remember reading one person mentioned that Asus support will release a new beta BIOS which will address to the infamous SATA issue that many Premium boards are having. It's said that the new beta BIOS will be out in a couple of weeks.
However, many ppl believe that it's a hardware issue so even when the new BIOS is released, it may not solve all cases
just finished my 2nd build on a P5K premium for a customer and just like my P5K Premium, no problems whatsoever. For his i used a Raptor X and a 750Gb WD Caviar SE and both have normal performance according to HD Tune.
anyone tried this mobo with TRACER 8500, doesnt work
good evening fellow black pearl fetishists,
i recently swapped my deluxe for a premium and promptly cleaned out the gunk from under the heatpipes & lapped a fresh SLACR.
i previously had a p5w with e6600
my problem is that once I exceed 9 x 380mhz my 3D mark score drops from 13000 to just 4000.
ram is 1:1 with FSB
vcore : auto 1.40
dram voltage: 2.10
i've played around with it all day and reinstalled the drivers, it does the same under XP or vista x64.
any idea what i'm doing wrong here? i can't see anyone else complaining about a 3D wall > 380mhz.
system is as follows:
antec 900 case
silverstone st85zf powrer supply
p5k premium
q6600 g0
2 x 1gb gskill F2-6400-PHU1-GBHZ
sparkle 8800gtx
x-fi music
1 x 36gb raptor
2 x 400gb seagate
pioneer 212
thermalright t1-128 heatsink with 120mm fan
cheers, limb0
thanks wa2000, that worked a treat.
i increased the pci-e to 120 and put the nb voltage up a couple of notches and now it says x16 in cup-z instead of x1 when i'm running at 400mhz.
i'll go back and see just how much of each is required because I changed two things at once in my haste.
thanks again maaate, really appreciate it!

So, i live here in argentina, where asus is nowhere to be found...i got this :banana::banana::banana:ING PIECE OF :banana::banana::banana: BOARD, and as everyone expected...it has the freaking SATA Issue with my WD drive...so what do i do? I send it to my retailer, and OH SURPRISE, the cant do :banana::banana::banana: about it...cause? Asus doesnt respond, or say ANYTHING ABOUT THIS CRAP LOAD OF PROBLEMS WE all seem to have(or at least...a buch of folks)
So what do i do? No, im not going to buy a SATA Controller card...i paid a buch of money for this board, and i want it to work.
So im expecting some suppor from you guys...what the hell can we do to get the wheels going? Asus HAS to respond for all of us(or at least...SAY SOMETHING) WTH?
Im stuck with a faulty board right now...and, for the time being, im not buying or recommending asus to ANYONE.
Any ideas?
Is that magical bios comming or not?
OMG, my post is all bannaned (???????? JK...to ease the mods about my flamming post :P)
EDIT: NO, i dont want to read something like "Buy a cheap controller card" or "Change that HDD" I WANT it to work...i HAS to work...this is ridiculous.
http://cinemassacre.com/Movies/Nes_N....southpark.jpg
EDIT5 :Mods, feel free to edit this post...but...you know im right! I really needed to get that out of my system.
EDIT 4: This board is diarrhea coming out of my d1ck...i had more fun playing with dog turd.
lol..... I have yet to experience any SATA malfunctions on my board. Running all Western Digital drives from Raptors to Caviars with 0 problems.
New BIOS should be inbound pretty soon, whether or not it fixes these issues is TBD.
i have samsung sp2504c drives on my board and i have had 0 issues.
Mobo: Asus P5K Premium (unmodded) BIOS Rev. 0302 (Heatpipes reseated with AS5
where did you get the 0302 bios???
I don't know if this will help but I had the P5K Deluxe and experienced the SATA issues...I sold the board before newer BIOSes came out so I don't know what the situation is now with the DDR2 board(s)...but I am now using a P5K3 Deluxe and with the 604 BIOS I have not experienced a single issue with SATA or RAID...I am currently sing 4 150gb RAPTORS in RAID-0 (red connectors) and a 500gb WD HD for storage in the first black SATA connector....this set-up with my Q6600 overclocked to 3.6ghz is working flawlessly and the performance of the HDs is excellent....I'm guessing this is quality assurance issue with Asus as not all the boards seem to have the issue...they should let people RMA their boards at least...this may never even be fixed via BIOS updates...sad really because when the boards work good. they are excellent.
Vdroop control is also better on this board for me..with it enabled in the BIOS I only get .01 droop whether it's idle or load.
I've just upgraded my pc last week with p5k premium and a wd sata 2 hdd ( WD5000YS sata300) amongst other components :)
- windows install was really slow ... and after i managed to install it i had the same problems that some people have ... slow transfer rates ... even hang-ups for a couple of minutes ... i was pi**ed off after many hours of browsing the forums for the solution and reading all the manuals about jmicron sata/raid controller and trying all the possible setups for the wd drive with no success ... and tried with one of my old hdd ... ata100 model... a 250GB WD ... same problems .... then tried my other hdd ... a 250GB seagate (ata100) and everything worked lika a charm ... windows install was smooth ... and after that ... rock solid .... thought my asus has a problem with WD hdds :( ... but a friend of mine gave me a hint :
you can put a jumper on pins 5-6 and limit it to sata 150 ... after doing this the hdd is working fine ... managed to install and run win and also done a decent oc :) ...
you guys with wd sata2 drives facing same problem ... might try limiting the hdd to sata 150 ... worked for me(short-circuited pins 5-6 for my model)
hope this will help somebody else :) ...
here is the 0302 bios

Just got my pearl..
Was going to put as5 on mine but it looked like the heatpipes over the mosets weren't touching the middle mosets without that stick of gum..
Wonder how it would do if I were to just leave the heatpipes off, put a nb cooler on, sb a hs, and fans over the mosets? It seems that the heatpipes over the mosets would increase the heat by withholding airflow without having the hp touching the mosets.
For a dual core you'd probably be alright, but I wouldn't risk it with a quad. Anyway you could just as5 the south and northbridge and leave it as is, it really doesn't need any more cooling than the stock heatpipe. If you've got even the smallest amount of case airflow they'll be kept plenty cool.
also having major sata issues with mine and it's driving me nuts. have bios 302 and hasn't really helped. Don't know what to do and it's driving me nuts
odd I like many others don't have sata issues, then again, all my drives are sataI
0302 gave me a "clicking" sound with my hard drives, going back to 0204 seems to have resolved this at the expense of slightly slower HD performance.
Otherwise my four WD SATA II drives have been running well with this board.
I did however discover a new problem over the past few days (currently suffer from cold/warm boot issues), my CPU will not overclock at all!
If I set the FSB=400Mhz my CPU stay's at 3.0GHz (in fact the post will report 3.01GHz) instead of the usual 3.0GHz when not overclocked. It doesn't matter what I set in the BIOS, the board will only boot at either 3.0GHz or 3.01GHz.
I've had the same CPU clocked at 3.8GHz in a Striker Extreme.
Just for the record, my board is running fine with two 320GB Hitachi T7K500's.
4 x WD 150GB Raptors sataII in raid 0.....no issues here, both win xp and vista 64bit installed fine in a dual boot config. Using bios 0204.
