sweet. Also gona be using water cooling. Just need to order second card now
Also which board would be best to use. I have a P5WDH , DFI RD600 or a P5K Dlx. I would think the P5K myself

First test with dry ice. Unfortunately R600 + Aluminium solid container and 1 mm copper cold plate between them is not the optimal configuration for this kind of heat load. Also adjusting the contact for perfect is really tricky.

Pretty lame clocks on Radeon HD 2900 XT so far: 950 / 1030 MHz. Positive thing is that it feels like my QX6700 week 32 ES is working ALOT better on DFI's RD600 motherboard compared to nF 680i SLI platform with 8800 GTX SLI.
Those clocks are on DI? Wow, I at least expected 1k... :(
what the better chipset for crossfire with these cards the 975 or P35.
First i have to say that your results always kick ass.:rocker: But what i really wanted to know is why are you using only 1030mhz on the mem, i know it can do more than that because mine can do 1130 with AmdGpuClockTool easy. Does the score really decrease if you go pass 1030mhz or is there something else.
malik22, i think that 975 is faster but thatīs just my opinion.
975x...
How much of a performance loss does 16x4 have compared to 8x8?
could not agree more, stability for gaming is a must vs benchmarks for like 30 seconds.8 hours of a kik ass gaming session is what u bought your video card for.just set it to safe clocks and actually enjoy it without blowing it up the second u get intro a jet at 2530x1536 and really put a load on it.u can bench on a 5200 ffs.not to many true gamers anymore around seems.i guess benching is cool but i would rather play games then try and roast my new hardware for months .set it up 2-3 days find stable\safe speeds, run some benchies for e-penis bragging rights then enjoy it by gaming on it?weird me.only seems like guys wanna bench everyday then game anymore, heh.
play some bf2 on it for 4 hours and see how "real world stable" it is.
If you guys want to game, have fun.
I like watching drag races as much as a good dakar rally, myself.
love the pink beatch toy sampsa :D
omg that quad off ure's really that bad ?
Please keep in mind that hardware I'm testing are mostly early Engineering Samples, not retails products. 1030 MHz seems to be the limit for this card under stock cooling.
It's not that bad but in this first test the focus was on GPU contact mainly and to get a feeling how HD 2900 XT behaves under cold. I can't say contact was perfect. With nF 680i SLI platform I couldn't push my QX6700 more than 4,3 - 4,4 GHz under dry ice cooling and heavily overclocked 8800 GTX SLI configuration but again, I was using early Asus and EVGA review sample boards.
Same old phrase applies here, there is plenty to improve :) I'll keep posting here when something new happens.
I have two 8800 Ultras here and new Asus Striker Extreme board so I'll give them a try also :)
Also note that this run was with default voltage :)
really strang how one week makes all the differens :p
week 33ES here 4.55ghz dice on P5W64 , should be easy 4.6+ghz on P5B dlx now .
what vcore do u need for the 4.3+ ?
How much of a performance loss does 16x4(965 P35) have compared to 8x8(975 RD600) running these cards in crossfire?
on my rig in sign ia cant run 05-06,aquamark at CrossFire its just as a bad clocked singelcard how's that 03 work just great..

it's really strange i think what could be my problem with it
I have CCC from the cd my card arrived with an 8.38 RC3 driver and i have the 2 sticks properly installed for CF and it's enabled, someone that could give me a hint of my issue..
Here are 1 run with both card and CF enabled, theres something wrong i say.

Max clocks with Watercooling (DD block) for 3DMark2001SE Nature - almost got it up to 800FPS :D
http://img.techpowerup.org/070528/798.png
Experimental version of ATITool - it can only read the clocks at this point.
Vmem was at default. Vgpu at around 1.42V.
2D temps can be seen in the pic (NOTE: 2D volts and clocks were the same as 3D clock/volt)
New test this week, this time with higher voltage. Lets see how it scales above 1 GHz :)
how high volt on all of the vgpu vmem do i dare to go on as safe volt with DI and LN2..
where is ATI Tool for everyone and not just some?
Local gas company messed up DI delivery, I have to wait till next thursday :(
Well, atleast I should be able to run with Catalyst 7.5 drivers then and get some offical results.
atitool will be released when he gets it stable i'm sure. you can imagine the difficulties in getting it to work properly with a completely new chip. and it still has to function properly with the existing gpu's. i would rather wait for it to be right than deal with all the problems of an unstable tool.
keep in mind that wizzard makes this tool for all of us for free!!!! complaining about it is just wrong!!!
does black box include Day of Defeat Source? just wondering...
If you use steam to input your product code you can download it now.
DD waterblock?.. new full cover ?
Lane-k, yes - the one you can see over at DD website.
Why wasent it just made with an IHS ?
Not very kind of AMD to produce it like that, At least not to the Enthusiats market :(
I wouldent even buy it because I have to get a NEW and specially made cooler!
Macci very high frequency for only water, good!!
Thanks Macci, but you are using a Maze 4 acetal or another cause i don't find full cover block for 2900 on their store.. (only for 19xx).. (And i like use full cover block ( core + mem + Voltage). From some shop here, i have the info DD will send them some soon...
But... Nice result MAcci
So far, i m really glad of the perf and OC of the card in bench..
I wait just a XTX or OC support for try them in Cfire ( i have kill all my score made with X1950 Cfire highly watercooled and OC with a single 2900, i will really want to see what will happend in Cfire..)
Macci, any mods on card yet? What's water temperature when GPU is +45C ?
Lane-k, its not in the shop yet but you can see the picture of the block from their main webpage. (direct link).
boble, no mods required =) didnt measure watertemp but it was probably below 20C :D
lol...when is someone gonna show 1350 mhz gpu....?:lol2: I hope you will be first, Macci.:lol2:
Awesome to see everything going so well...my ICFX3200 is beggin' for one of these beasts. :D
Updated results with dry ice and little bit higher GPU voltage:
CPU: 4379 MHz
Radeon HD 2900 XT: 1000/1020 MHz
3DMark06: 16067
I'll update some pics after the weekend when I return from Amsterdam.
Whoa nice...16k single

I got the missing FPS or so: 800FPS Nature (1050/1035 clocks - with POOR phase cooler!):

That 'crappy' cooler works pretty good :D
When will you break out the Evo ;)
Nice

macci it sure would be nice if you took a WR again. *wink*
Really? :D hmm need to think about that - one thing is for sure: I would need to go and get some LN2 in order to get there!
-80C on CPU + watercooling on GFX only gets me about this far right now (PCIe clocks would give some extra points and GFX clocks could be easily higher too of course):

Offtopic:
I just bought an Xpertvision 2900XT since i had a great deal on it and i am wondering if anyone knows if it is built by ati or did palit/xpertvision build the card?
Soz for OT again.
Those are beautiful benchmarks macci. Your runs always very clearly show that they are massaged by a very adept hand. :D
Does anything special need to be done for such nature results? I confess, I haven't touched CF yet. Any reason why the memory clock is relatively low?
timings adjust @ 1000mhz, making mem much slower.;)
yeah i know, but memory timings are driver dependant, AFAIK. Check what driver he is using in compare URL.
Also, I can overclock crossfire, when noone else can, so strange things are afoot.:fact:
lol i said it was driver-dependant...;) :lol2:
works the same either way, 8-pin or not, although I have much more luck with less crashes when overdrive is disabled.
But I'll tell ya what's different...I'm on Vista...are you?:stick: Unless you are, there are no comparisons to be made, unfortunately. That's why noone else has luck with Crossfire overclocking, IMHO, as everyone still benches in XP. I personally won't use a DX10 card in XP, but that's jsut me. ;):lol2:
Would be nice if Macci could share AMD Graphics Manager....:fact:
no i'm on xp  ,,, i have mine watercooled but not much use yet as no overclocking strangely as well on mine with amd gpu tool the 2d and 3d clocks are greyed out, is atitool any nearer, i'd even be happy to use overdrive but would need some 8 pin pcie adapters which are not available anywhere in the uk, only one i have seen is in a coolaler thread, what are you using amd gpu tool if not using overdrive
Personally i wont use Vista on my computer, and ill ban anyone who will try to install Vista on one of my computers. Benching in Vista is like trying to overclock HD2900XT without heatsink.
Enabling overdrive, and leaving clocks at default(unlocking overdrive is enabling, 8-pin alone is not enough), will result in lower scores, so, to be completely honest, I'm not using overdrive at all, just AMDGPUCLOCKTool. Unlocking overdrive has not met with much success for me either.
Yeah, people used to insist that the world was still flat too. They eventually bowed in favor of reality...times change, and so must the tools we use.Quote:

But listen...without even trying Vista, and seeing how the card behaves under DX10, there's no real way to be able to properly stress this gpu. DX9 does not use this gpu fully @ all...so I use Vista, and DX10, for stability testing.
As the DX10 API allows load balancing, you can ensure that the gpu is used to it's fullest extent, and resources aren't sitting idle...because if it always sits idle(which can be the case quite often with how the ALU's are arranged), there's no way to even know if it's stable. That's like overclocking a quad while disabling 2 cores...no different what so ever.:fact:
;)
thanks for the feedback cadaveca , aahhh i wonder if the amd graphics manager has anything to do with being able to overclock crossfired 2900s
No, it doesn't. I think Macci said he was flashing bios...probably using AGM to find good spots of each card by itself, and then flashing the bios and straight benching for Crossfire. I can only change card speeds once before getting a lock, so benching takes far more time than you'd think with these cards.
Far, far, far, from perfect.
Don't even bother using 8Pins for Overdrive in Xfire. Yes, Overdrine will O/C or seem like it but your benches and games' performance are the same. I don't think overdrive O/C at all in Xfire.

Ilkkahy is making me solid copper VGA containers which can be used with both R600 and G80. The other side of the container is flat for G80 heatspreader and other side will be machined for R600 and shim.
:)
Nice new pot. Thats true engineering :)
The score is very nice as well :D

New container design. Looking forward to these :)
That sounds like an interesting design. Have you heard anything from W1zzard recently ;)
Another container is halfway done. I have to do some finishing work (even though i think its the inside that matters ;) and drill couple of holes for mounting there but youll get the idea:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/ilkkahy/DSC00002%20(Small).JPG
http://koti.mbnet.fi/ilkkahy/DSC00005%20(Small).JPG
It weights 2380g so its kinda heavy for gpu container too (and also efficient im certain about that). Changing aluminium to copper should get load temps down about 20c. I have made identical version of Sampsas cpu container from aluminium and that was the case there.
I made very quick test (first mount, stuff in, temps, kinda bada-bim bada-bum...) in 160w bench and container gave -29c so 16c improvement to aluminium version (alu gave -13c).
I wanted to be certain that i havent made that internal cross thing too high for dryice but those are very good temps in this bench, especially knowing that with better contact it would get even few degrees lower.

Im looking forward to see these in real action but there are still lots of work to do before that is possible.
nice book with the swastika.
The book is William L Shirers Rise and fall of third reich, which is worth reading. It had the optimal thickness for this situation but i dont think my insulation job and mounting had passed in 1940 germany...
Anyway i managed to break 3,2mm drill inside the copper so which is "the old classic". The good thing is that i got container milled about 1mm from the sides so it doesnt look so brutal anymore.
But maybe enough ot about the container now.
very nice container there ilkkahy! will show pics when my containers are ready, i have my old and just work away so that the coldplate goes in against the shim to rech the core and the hole is the same as to X1900 series so it's not much of job doing that, pics will come :)
