Sometimes I'd like a subzero ambient :D
Living in Tasmania, Australia- I managed 15C on my opteron 146 @2.8ghz 1.475v 1:1
Had an ambient of about 6C-10C
I see cold weather and snow on teh tv... anyone out benching?
I might get a chance tonight, I was stuck sitting in a car for 4 hours last night coming back from the Seahawks game. It's gonna be around -8 here tonight.
Not subzero air ,yet..
Only room temp on 22C
1,59v, idle 52c load 70c temp.
Lapped cpu, Cooling: TT Sonic Tower with double 12centimetres fan.

Its 70 degrees here in Northern Jersey and its almost December, I want some cold weather now!
IT was about -12 the other day.. You all know what I did.
I took the stuff outside, and while waiting for it to boot, took a piss in the snow.
check this. It was 80* here yesterday, and 29* today. Gotta love texas. I think i may have to mount my computer on the window and bench later on when we get some low 20's temps.
It's about 32f in The Beaumont area I'd do a little ocing but I need a bigger psu.
Well here in KS, I am getting -13c atm!
Too bad my 680i is still coming back from an RMA
its about 10-15C @ 5-6am.. I m still waiting for it to go 5C :D..then i ll bench
On 5C AIR, same setup as #209

I got some competition - wait til` it gets cold here in LV ;)
LOL I'm going to try this out in the winter :D
1) vote sticky
2)tried to crack the aircooled WR ...
good news: went u12s :woot:
bad news: no WR :(

just a stupid question:
is putting a mobo (with everything on, of course) in the fridge dangerous .... for the fridge ?
Just tested what my new fridge can do. In "quick freeze mode" the temp in freezer dropped to -31C :D
The hole fridge will heat up and start to malfuntion, but that's not going to happen for the first few hours. -31°C a nice for fridge, but it will not stay -31°c for a long period. You might give it a try, but watch out for condensation ;)

Andy, you should try to run 1M @ one of those "TinyXP" kind of OS ... believe me - the result is a bit better :)
It will not help by 0.3seconds on lower cpu speed.Quote:

Secret tweak or bug ?

Andy
No secret tweaks, bugs whatsoever
Priority @ realtime and running with explorer off can`t be counted as a major tweak ;)
Just ran this CPU @ the highest freq it could go, then tried with stripped OS and tighter timings...
If you wish - I can ask local XS members like kiwi or mrlobber to come over and confirm the results
almost everything in youre result but no validation to verify timings
explorer /priority in a stripped os doesn't help that much, looks like something wrong here.
.
If you`re asking for a CPU-Z validation - tell you what - I`m banned @ CPU-Z validator :mad:Quote:

i don't say i don't believe you but for the cpu speeds its a very fast score and timings doesnt help me that much ever, and i got g.skill 8500hz memory who can do about everything i want, the 467 you where running at they can do easely . the 8000ul you got i have to , but its worse to run at c3.
The CPU-Z validation is not an issue, no problem. The cpu Mhz is a good value that can be achieved but the issue is with it not matching up to your SuperPi score and that rings alarm bells.Quote:

TaPaKaH, could you explaind me one thing please
your best Spi time 9.781s is in terms of tweaking a bit poor if compared to real Spi gurus like kaz-an, kyosen ... For that run you have 520 3-3-3 that is a lot, you also stated that you used modified Bios, professionally stripped and tweaked OS (you said you payed for it)
but this new run is time per clock far supperior that anything we have seen, even OPB's WR run ?
Heh! There is some pretty insane benching going on there :D. My dads work has a -20*C ColdRoom, and a -86*C Sanyo VP Series freezer! Would love to put it in there and see the benching I could do! It's only about 8-9*c outside at the moment, so when it starts getting colder I shall be going down to the garage and do some benching!!

Just improved the measured ambient tonight for this thread ..

For that ambient temp here is the BIOS figures

completely passive at this point, 0cfm for the last 2 minutes

Watting for real cold snap. Come on guys, all talk and no action, it's a sad state of affairs when a mere mod can get the best figures :D

Andy
Tarakan banned now...but he told me to use TinyXP when I wanted to get that OS :) FSB wall bios hack is dangerous since 2 or 3 MBs already dead from that. It obviously involves hardware mods too
Can someone point me to all superPI tweaks? :)
Somehow none of them work for me :D
Yes, I tried TinyXP, it had some tweaks - IOpagelocklimit etc but it was still worse than fresh xp SP2.
The only thing that really works is tight memory timings. Realtime priority and killing explorer does not really work or maybe very little
Ahh, I remembered, seems that copy waza worked for 32M and time improved by 10s

I should have flashed back to the old 0408 bios as it overvolts the VCore and I think that was what was holding me back. I've got a prommie here I could use, but I'm enjoying the air-cooled benching better these days, less noise and less hassle.

Not subzero for the moment, but it was around + 5°C on the open window, and i tried my best. :)

Just switched to a 120x120x38 Sunon.
Anyone with Negative ambient water cooled runs? The water shouldn't freeze because it's always moving right?
Hmmm... It's about -10c out tonight... :)
2 years ago i was outside with my watercooled system, with an ambient of around -5°C, and i had no problem! But if u want to get sure, just use a bit of "Kühlerfrostschutz" for ur water.. :D Sorry, don't know the english word for it..
Frost protection from car, not for the window-water but for the cooling of the engine.
are there any dangers when running a ducted setup bringing cold air from outside using a window fan straight into the case?
Condensation?
Moisture?
every time I see Zak's giant fan I lol...
Should be getting REALLY cold later this month across the world.
Last night was the coldest of the year here in SoCal. -1C
Sweet... Low of -16c expected on tuesday night... :)
wednesday night look promising here!!!

-26celcius GGRRRRRR!!!!
Well, normaly here in Norway we got like under -5 celsius from late october to early march, but this year it has been weary little snow. We had green christmas almost all over Norway, and that hasn't happend since 1980's... Everybody (with the OC'ers in first line) blame global warming... Yeasterday I did some good old norwegian OC'ing with a window open and around 0 celsius at the outside with a lot of ice cold wind and around +3 celsius in the room.. got some good OC'ing :D
Here is a very good page on describing what we have seen this yearQuote:

Damn I'd love a cold snap. Although this is the AIR cooling thread, my Zalman Reserator would love a frigid wind.
Global warming,it kinda freaks me out just thinking about it:(
Not that i dont like the heat.......but hey,IM a overclocker, now we also have to care for the world too...lol...
Yesterday it was cold here in norway,i dis some nice benching, but im watercooled, not allowed in here....sigh.....
...but i use cold air for it,can i show it...lol...
Now i sounds like a little cid asking mum for a icecream....the second time:D
Well, we overclocker must take some blame for the global warming, couse Dry ice IS frozen CO2, and when the DI goes over to gass, we let oute even more CO2... so somehow we are going against our own will her ;)
Hey tiduZ wtf:: you are supposed to back me up:p: ...lol...Quote:

G H Z, it hurts as a norwegian with no snow this year to see that lovely pic! ;(
Anyone had condensation problems running their systems outside?
I'm planning on running my prescott in the garage (separate from the house, not heated so temps about as low as outside, minus the wind) or something, but I dont wanna break any HW so I was wondering if there could be any problems?
//edit: damn I should have done it today! -22c -31c incl. wind
-8c here in pa, says windchill is -15c lol. Gotta spend today relearning my board then tonite she goe's out the door on a cart =)
-10c was to cold for the olde big typhoon. 4.14ghz on my e6600@1.64v and the heatpipes froze up after 45minites or so. After a reboot to go for another shot at 4.14 3dmark01 stable she wouldnt boot anymore, reset to my 24/7 settings and was idle'n at 58c, dont want to know what temp was being generated at 4.1+ 1.64vcore when the heat pipes quite working:eek:
I forgot to shoot a screen with smart guardian up unfortunatly.

I'll see ya on the other side
I don't understand why a heatpipe would stop working in cold ambient. If it started to function poorly then surely the cpu would heat up and this would heat up the base and this would make the heatpipe warmer so it started working again ?
First coldish night tonight. Ambient is 2C at the moment in the shed, in the BIOS at 1.30v and stock 11x266 2.93Ghz X6800 the cpu temp is 7C. I'll get up early tomorrow and take a picture plus a run through 8M SuperPi to show what fully loaded temps are.

Andy
I was unaware that a phase change happened in a heatpipe cooler. :confused:Quote:

Where I live right now, a military camp far north in Norway it was -30C at Wensday. To bad I don't have a computer up here. At the coldest point in the winter it can get as cold as -40C. Brrr ... And at that tempereature I've to run arround in the woods and play war.
In Bulgaria its still warm...about +5/+10Celsius...As the news say the temperature will fell this days :) It should be about -10/-15.I hope so.And i will try to make my 7years old Intel Celeron (Codename: Tualatin 1200Mhz Default) which now works at 1600mhz 24/7 to run at 2000mhz.I cant set more fsb than 166 with open jumpers....:(
