Kudos to this bios! I can finally run my ram on the 667 divider rather than 533 or 400. Finally i get to use my DDR2800 at more than 711Mhz! I didnt try running up the FSB, but the ram is definately working better. I had no problems with this bios whatsoever. I simply dialed in my OC and my settings and it worked fine right off the bat.

the issue is with drive strength, my guess is you're leaving it on Auto, this will not work with some ram, you need to set it to 3x all the way down that list (just to make sure). Follow that guide to the letter and you should be able to boot up after making changes.

Would also help if you state exactly what ram/make/type you are trying as it will help others who want to try the same and we can see if this bios has issues with certain brands.....

edit: the issue here is most likely the drive strengths, the board is very sensitive to that, and you may need to type different values until it will post, I have every drive strength option set to 3x, even the ones that are probably not used.
Raju are you personally leaving VTT at 1.2 when you up the Voffset setting to produce 1.4v?
I´ve set all the drive strengths to 3x, disabled the Sata ports (this is my bench rig, i only use a 40gb ide hd) & tried all combinations of voltages.
Also i´ve tried fsb from 440 (with the 731 i can post even at 449-450) to 350, nothing. Tried all the dividers.
I´m trying with Fatbody ic´s, Micron Pc2-3200 (1gb kit) & Crucial Ballistix 6400 (2gb kits).
Will try to take pictures but i can tell you, as i said before, that i´ve set all the tiimings literally as you said, leaving the rest to auto. Yes i can try with differents combinations but with so much timmings this could be a hell, and i don´t know if it will do nothing...

i didnt touch any of the drive strengths. I just dialed in my ram timings and my OC and voltages and it worked like a charm. Great bios so far for me.
823.bin flashed from floppy. Flash complete. Shutdown. Clear CMOS 3 mins. Turn power supply back on WITH finger on Insert key and then DEL to enter bios and load optimized defaults. Rebooted fine and tweaked all but the memory timings first. Boot Sata Raid, turn off CE1, etc. Then tweaked memory and voltages. Booted 300/340 and right on back to my normal for this HOT ES6600 of 371x9 without any issues. Clearing CMOS and holding insert key down before delete key to enter bios are key to success and "raju'' has already well written how he manages the bios after that. Which by the way I was doing before he posted it since I found it necessary as well.

E6300.....
now with pqi 667 i got 420 bus (around 2.95),
with g.skill i can't get higher than 360 (at 533 or 400)...
If you have solution or definitions for my system,i be glad to hear it.....

I think they removed it because it was not working on these newer revision bios'. The issue is definatley Drive Strength no doubt, also some the the Read Delay are finnicky too, setting them manually is really tricky, I have to leave these on Auto for now for my system to boot, all others are set manually. The newer bios revisions need a master to sit down and offer some advice on every ram setting, some of the options there are completley new and don't even show in memset.
So far Kunaak has had theb best results with MUshkin 8000, I don't know what chips that memory uses though.

Looks like DFI pulled yet another bios off their download site. I love that they are still working on it, but it would be real nice if they would do some more testing before releasing the bios. I think 4 of 12 people I have seen try it on here and dfi-street have gotten it to work, and 2 needed Raju's method.
Okay I'm all done with the 7/31 bios that shipped with my board. Thanks to Dumo and others who trailed blazed enough that I didn't find the experience completely frustrating. I purchased the board knowing that it was a work in progress and I'm still hopeful that bios revisions will help break the FSB barriers on each of the dividers. Here's where those walls came up for me.
1:1 533 divider fsb wall came up at about 339. Just enough to get my Conroe over 3ghz :( Tried a lot of volts to and funky timings to push past but no go.

So of course I wanted to jump on the big 2:3 800 divider and watch my memory soar, but even loosing the memory to C5 didn't push the FSB past 323 with that divider selection. The mobo is not exactly the memory showcase I was hoping for.

The 4:5 667 divider gave me a little more FSB but stalled out at 367. Still well short of my goal of 400.

Going with the 4:3 400 divider choked off my memory performance but with a 388 Fsb wall it was enough to push my CPU to the 3.5ghz mark. Performance on SPi 32m is a push compared with the cpu at 3.3ghz on the 667 divider though. :mad:

The new bios isn't exactly setting the world on fiire so I think I'll take a small break from this mobo before I flash it. Maybe work on rigging up some water for the CPU and northbridge. Maybe try to get in on some of the x1900 deals going on right now.
Just so I don't leave the wrong impression, I should say that working with the board has been a fun introduction to the Conroe and the 975x chipset. It does have a nice "seat of the pants" speedy and powerful feel to it. I'm looking forward to getting it into a game rig. :D
BTW - I'm might jump on another board just so the Gskill and Team Group get a better chance to shine.

That 4:5 667 seems to be the best balance on the 7/31. Might I ask what you have the VID and VTT set to in your bios for that one? 0.050 and 1.325 maybe? (I'm still wondering how exactly those two work, nobody seems to give a straight answer)

You guys heard anything about downward unlocking in the new bios?
Asus have done it in a lot of their boards i was just wondering if DFI was going to follow suit.
Got my board and CPU yesterday. Havent really had time to tinker but booted it into windows at 400fsb with 400 mem divider. Didnt try and go any higher as my 6600 was getting bloody hot with only stock cooler.
Since i havent yet touched the NB voltage its looking good.
Going to watercool the CPU then see what i can do.
This is all on the 731 bios.

Well I decided to give it a try. I just upped the VID by 100mV to get 1.39 total (I left VTT at 1.20). I was able to run 9x360 with the 4:5 divider (I'm on 7/31 still) and it ran well in windows, ran a bunch of tests it was going well. Unfortunately it won't survive a cold boot. On the cold boot it takes like 45 seconds after I push the power button for the post beep and when it does it pushes back down to 266x9.
I am going to fall back to 366x9 on the 4:3 for now but I will leave the upped Vcore, maybe try and draw it back one step at a time.
i get em mixed up. But the one that goes to 1.35v ( i think its VTT) is the base Vcore. The other option that goes by Mlvt or something weird adds on top of that by smaller increments for fine tuning. I wish they would have used plain .0125v increments instead of that confusing crap.
I have tested the 8/23 bios.. these are my results.. I think its a promising bios.. thanks Oskar Wu.. were looking forward to your works.. :toast:

Havent yet tried higher as i have an exam tommorow but this one just came. Didnt have to tweak or touch NB voltage or ram settings.
This is my previous max ram clock so I cant really try much higher plus im stuck on sucky stock cooler. When my WC gear and new Ram arrives ill post some more.

Hmmm ... I hadn't thought of running a single 1gig stick of ram to see if it made a difference. We already know that 2x1gigs aren't clocking as well as 2x512mb configurations, so why not higher fsb with single channel? Makes sense no? Do you have another matching stick to run on that rig? Some SuperPi and either Sandra or Everrest bandwidth shots would be welcome.Quote:

Original 400fsb with one stick was at stock Vmch.
Ok put a matching stick in my board. Didn't spend a lot of time playing but did manage to get it into windows at 390fsb.
The funny thing was that adjusting the NB voltage didnt really seem to help the OC.
This is using the non beta bios so hopefully ill see an improvement when they finnnaly release this thing.
You guys know anything about a release that includes downwards unlocked multipliers or memtest?

It would be nice to have the memtest built in but I doubt that's on DFI's to do list. The downward multi should be, but I haven't heard even a rumor.
I just just burned the ISO images of memtest to CD (using Deepburner) and boot off of it to test for stability before going into windows so I don't bork windows and have to reinstall or repair.

ok so how many of you are running you mem in dual channle? why not put the mem in ie both 1gig sticks in single channle. Its not going to hit that much its only 5% in mem bandwidth.

Looks like you are on the newer bios too, which I'm not, so there goes my hopes that this problem would go away :( I guess I am just a lot more used to a failed overclock failing miserably, not performing great and under stress for hours then only not coming back after a cold boot.
So now the 320x9 won't boot cold. I turn my machine off when I go to work and when I came home last night it wasn't booting again. I quick hit of the reset button fixed that immediately though. You don't have a bad board is seems that the rest of us are having the same cold boot problem. Only difference for me is that my board is running at 415 fsb and about 50% of the time cold boots to a lower value. It never crashes,BSDs or screws up in any way while in windows(X64).Quote:

Back to 731, still can't get it stable with 4GB in @ stock. :(
The 8/23 has given me the best OC so far, the absolute max at 1:1 is 380 on my board and it takes some playing with the reset button to get it to boot at 380, stable as a rock once it posts.
Compared to the DS3 board I also have this board is just way too finiky, I really hope they get get the issues resolved with future bios releases. They're definitely making a little progress with the beta bios's but it would be nice to have the cold boot issues resolved and at least tweak the settings enough to help the board achieve 400fsb at 1:1.
Highoctane, you and me both are on 380 1:1, try setting read delay to 7 manually in bios. I have only cold booted once since I set this so I don't know if it'll work all the time.
For what it's worth there is definatley a bigger 'down time' period on a cold boot when you are at 370-380 fsb. It's like the board struggles to reach it's stable point before post. Let me know if read delay at 7 helps.

Great results, 5-5-5-12, giving 15.1 sec SuperPI, cpu 3.33gig.
With single 7950GX2 getting nearly 177k Aq3, and just under 55k 3dM01
Bios stable, can run SuperPI 32M, Orthos and Aq3, all at once, no stability issues. Wil piost screenies if you want.

That be Vmem or Vcore?
I am running GSkill F2-2GBHZ 6400 memory (2x 1gig), normal slots 1 and 3 on board, and have voltage set for 2.1-2.15 volts. Timings are not to tight, but I am still managing decent 15.104 or something seconds on SuperPI, which is quite good concerning 3.33gig on cpu.
I am running 667 strap, thus mem running 468mHz (x2 = 936mHz)
CPU Vcore not to bad either, came down fom 1.50Vcore on Gigabyte S3 at 3.20gig, to 1.44 Vcore at 3.33gig on the Infinity. I am still fsb limited by Bios/mem divider issues, but at least cip is performing better.
Best SuperPI was 13.8sec with same chip and memory, around 3.73gig on S3.
So, cpu and memory definately can go higher, just bios maturity issues I reckon.

Mr. Bean, is your machine able to cold boot at that speed after being shut off for awhile? Mine can't though I can get similar numbers as you,with 0.05 less vcore. It will warm boot at those speeds though.

Yes, it actually cold-boots. As I read your post, I switched on the Conroe rig, and bios goes click, click (onboard sound), then boots at 370fsb (3.33gig) and mem 468mHz right into Windows :)Quote:

Not the cpu, as this chip can Prime at 3.7gig on crappy Gigabyte S3, albeit with higher vcore.
So, still some issues with Memory controller hub I think at these frequencies....

I was thinking about trying the vmods for the chipset and see if that would help, maybe try pushing the volts to 1.8ish to see if it helps any.

I'm runnin bios 0830 no probs @ 355fsb. Can't go higher with this cooler. Seems the same as 0823 to me. I was havin those cold start issues also with 0823, i'll let ye know later if there gone with this bios.
what sig? anybody else with 0830 results, retail e6600 preferably

Get a good cooler. Should get to bout 3ghz on stock cooler. You'll need a good psu also (600w preferably). You'll aslo need a case with good ariflow. I've 2x120mm fans at front blowin in, 120mm exhaust at back & 80mm on top blowing out.Quote:
