nice clock you have. I can bearly make it stable to run 3.6Ghz at 1.6v in bios.
Here is mine @3.2. Will post update if i can make it 3.6Ghz stable overnight
Processor: E6400 @ 3.2Ghz (week 26)

Memory: XMS2-8500 3-4-4-8 @800Mhz

The rest all set normal voltage (first in the list)
Ambient 29-30
Idle 46 degree
Load 58 degree
Stable on Orthos for 8hrs
Orthos Stable 30 hours ... but if I turn off the LCD monitor, when I turn it back on ... nothing works... however, i can still shutdown windows, and hear the shutdown sound .... XD
Haha, that used to happen to me w/ a DFI nF4 SLI board.
My best 1M so far, but forgot to set CL to 3, will go for some better scores tomorrow. :)

I use that boxed cooler, so my CPU is running pretty hot. Also Southbridge is pretty hot. Easytune says that my CPU use 1.41 Voltage, thats too much. I dont think that I should overclock any more with boxed cooler, so I'm getting Scythe Ninja.
Change manually in your BIOS to 1.3-1.35V and try some more OC.Quote:

Sure as long as you can run some apps without the pc locking up. for exaple Orthos,etc...Quote:

Mascaras, water just isn't fair :( . Those temps are excellent.
idiotic question guys, but where the heck do I force the memory to be 1:1 in BIOS?
Upgrade to BIOS version F6.Disable automatic faw control in BIOS.Try to set memory multi @ 2,5,then drop the CPU multiplier to 6,and then increase FSB to see how far memory can go.Finally, you should have the idea of what your RAM is capable of,and then try the CPU.Quote:

My results: E6400@3.2Ghz. See signature for details. That was just too easy ;)

I'm trying to clock my Ballistix @DDR2-1000 instead, got it to work at stock vdimm once w/ 3.2Ghz, but can't anymore. Need to play with that some more later. 1:1 FSB/memory gives awesome latency results though. Is someone running the ballistix faster than 4-4-4-12@800? I might try that instead of going to 1000.
This thing is flying... I'm doing tons of photo editing and it's just awesome. It's night and day compared to my previous rig (AMD64 3000+).

Hey everyone, I've been reading these forums for a few weeks now abecause I just built myself a new gaming system with an E6400. Thanks to a thread on this board about the Gigabyte S3 motherboard, I decided to get one myself. Today, I overclocked my E6400 using the F5 version BIOS, which Gigabyte says improves Allendale OCing. Without further ado, here is my info and screenshots (keep in mind this is my first time ever OCing a CPU):
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 L624 @ 8x400 (3.2GHz) 1.32VCore
Gigabyte P965 S3 w/ F5 BIOS
2GB Patriot DDR2 667 4-4-4-12 RAM @ DDR2 800 5-5-5-15 (I have a Q about this later in the post)

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=546505
The only problem I'm encountering is if I try to manually put my RAM timings to 4-4-4-12, the computer will post and go through BIOS fine, but at the screen where it's about to go into XP, it'll just sit there as if there's no boot device (I know this because that happened before haha). Once I change it back, it goes fine. I'm not too worried about a small latency change, but I'm guessing this is just a BIOS glitch.
EDIT: Almost forgot to mention that my heatsink is an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.

Oh and another thing, when OC'ing... start out with a bit more Vcore than you really need then work your way back down. If it was me I'd be at 1.425 and 2.4Vdimm looking to identify the weak link. You could probably do 430-440ish at 1.43v... but you need to isolate if it's the ram or not.
Well everything works fine unless I change the RAM timings. I might try upping the VDIMM to 1.9, but it's pretty odd since most people dont have problems using stock voltages with this RAM. As for now, I'm going to run the comp as-is for a while and see how it does for 24/7 use. In a week or so, I'll start doing my final tweaking. Thanks for the info.
EDIT: What do you guys recommend as a max safe voltage for 24/7 use?

hey i have been stock at 422x8 for a while...Right now I am at 425x8, voltage at 1.425 (vdropp down to 1.38) and Corsair 6400 at 2v...
I think the trick was to drop my RAM timings a tiny bit - from 5-5-5-12 to 5-5-5-15. That seems to have fixed my reboot in Orthos after about 5 mins.
So if you got the cheap Corsair try loosening timings a bit maybe...
This proc is so bleeping impressive. I am stressing it by running Orthos at the same time as I play Call of Duty 2 - and guys I have NO FPS DROP!

How much Do i expect from a Week 27 E6400 cooled by Ultra-120 :D. Ambient Temp will be <20C. :slap:

I would also like to know what to expect from my E6400 - L626A293 - anyone care to take a guess or tell me what they got - I plan on getting the Vigor Gaming TEC cooler<-I Know, I Know...
@ANP and TheGoat Eater everyones overclock varies from chip+mobo+ram combinations.
But a safe bet would be 3.2Ghz to 3.4Ghz
If you take a close look you will notice what the Minimum Overclocks are.
Right now, I have 2GB of Patriot 5300 ram overclocked to 438 FSB 4-4-4-9 STABLE (for 12 hours on the ram .... CPU I did before with small FFTs) Now, when I overclocked to 3600 Mhz on my CPU, the small FFTs worked for 12 hours ... however, the RAM isn't stable at 4-4-4-9, 4-4-4-12, 4-5-5-12, or 5-5-5-10 .... what should I do? It won't boot if i increase the voltage to 0.3 (apparently 0.2 is the max now on the DS3)
I am sorry for asking a stupid question but these Intel chips are still to me and wanted to sound my question but I have booted into windows at 3.7 and am now benching at 3.5 but it likes 3.2 a lot better I think - gonna slap a silverstone 120mm fan on my scythe infinity and "GO FOR GOLD" -lol:banana:Quote:

Your using e6400 default multi of 8x right?
This may sound nutty, but, here's why, when lowering multi it affects straps in the cpu, just like when you use a ram divider e.g. 2:3 or 4:5.
Now think for a moment, the only cpu in the series x6800 (super expensive) can clock up and down whereas the others only down, So, that means with x6800 you can change multi up and down without effecting NB, SB, FSB etc.
But, the others (e6300 etc.,much= less costly) can only clock down, as well when you clock down with these chips it directly effects NB, SB, FSB etc., which means solve problem #1 ( changed FSB clock), but what about problem #2 (the change #1 changes the NB clock), which effects problem #3 (the ram clock).
So go to windows desktop and right click properties on My Computer and see what the Cpu clock is, this might surprise you.
imagine 4.5ghz (4x566Mhz in Sandra 1:1 = 4x566 = x2 = 4.528ghz)
and

HOLY CRAPPOLA!!!!!!!!!!
how do you guys think my setup will do? before i had to RMA my motherboard and RAM i got to 3.4ghz stable. You think that is the highest I should go for 24/7 or 3.2? I guess it depends on temperature but what would be a realistic limit for 24/7.

I'm debating on lapping to lower temperatures, I'm 2.5 hours into orthos and my temps are varying from 63-69, my idles are about 53-55... I have speedstep and all that enabled though. I have an electric bill to worry about :P.
p.s. how do you add volts to an ATI card? I've always used NVIDIA cards and my OC needs were met without needing it. But this card is seriously low end, I got it for 100$ from a friend... I just need something till dx10 comes around... but this thing doesnt even artifact it just turns off my computer when I over overclock it.. so I'm thinkin it needs voltage or something.. lol sorry if this is off topic.

WC wont help u much.. u need is a higher Multi cpu.. Just dump the WC, n get a E6600 or E6400 atleast.
I just ran Orthos for an hour and 40 minutes; stayed rock solid. I only stopped because I wanted to play some games :) .

Load temps stayed around 48-55C; the fan would turn up when it hit 55C, which would cool it down to 48C, then it would slow down and the temp would rise again. Just kept doing that over and over. If I run the test again, I'm gonna just run the fan at 100%. But yeah, I'm very happy with my OC. I bet I can go further too, since my vcore isn't high (I havent even found minimum required vcore yet...).
Here goes mine !
E6400 - L624A727
Max I can get for now with 1,66v BIOS air'ed with Scythe Ninja Rev.B :O

3400Mhz with 1.350Vcore also stable.
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=238723 maximum o/c for now, memory is holding this chip back. can do only 920Mhz'ish.
Must wait for my new case, mobo, wc, and memory ;]
What are you cooling that w/? I've very similar temps on a TRUE w/ Scythe 1200RPM...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/jodiuh/c.jpg
ambient 24C
3200Mhz @ default voltage
abit ip35 pro @ 400Mhz
@ Jodiuh , Scythe Ninja Rev.B, with 120mm @ 900rpm, in the rear of the case are 2x1 stacked 120mm @ 5V to pullout as a turbine , all on ABIT AB9
Kick :D !
Got a new 1M pi score

Finally sub 15 :yepp:
E6400 @ 3.2ghz
micron d9gmh 2gb @ 800mhz
gigabyte ds3 rev 1.0
vcore: 1.28v
temps: idle 43, load 55 with tuniqtower badly installed. Had 33c idle and 51 load with my e6300 3.3ghz higher vcore before, so i think i can get the temps a bit better.
this is stable on orthos 8 hours at 118 f: air cooled

This thread is for E6400
Nice OC though, they all seem to reach 4Ghz with ease
Dude! Come into our thread and wag that 4G around...
