Well, 1.15 is not default VCore for Conroe. More like 1.3v. And again, the board overvolts by about 0.05v, so you have to take that into account. Monitoring programs read temps off the same sensor chip. If that chip is not accurate, then all the readings you get will be inaccurate.

Yeah I know 1.15 isnt default vcore but that is what it shows in windows with asus probe and AI booster with auto vcore and no oc.

Ive manualy set vcore to 1.3 but I am still at 38 deg idle temps :confused:

Ive just flashed to bios 0215 and cleared cmos, and is the same as it was before.

Faulty board ?

Try raising VCore to 1.4 or 1.5 and see what happens. The bios has some sort of bug. Some of the VCore settings are not accurate. For example, if you set 1.615v in the bios, the VCore reading in Windows is actually lower than if you had used 1.6v.

That's very strange. Even with a HSF and VCore at 1.6, my idle temps don't get that high. Maybe try flashing to a different bios. See if that helps.

well ive tried with shipped bios and 0215 with the same result. :/

Im now at 1.45v in bios, 54 deg in core temp :(

When you boot into Windows, what is the CPU utilization like in the Task Manager? Is it low, or are you getting 50% or higher at idle? If utilization is high at idle, your temps are probably going to be high too. Maybe try a fresh install.

My CPU read about 10 degrees lower on the P5W-DH than on my P5W64 with the same (default) settings. Core Temp on P5W-DH was a good 10 degrees higher though, whereas on the P5W64 its actually sometimes lower than PC Probe reports.

Basically, I don't think you've got a faulty board - and I wouldn't read a huge amount into the temperature differences between the P5W-DH and P5W64. If its the same chip with the same cooling, with the same (measured on mobo) vCore then it should be the same temp, there's no reason it wouldn't be.

The only problem with ignoring high temperature readings is the board will shut down if it thinks the temps are beyond the critical point. 54C at idle with 1.45v is not normal. Under full load, the temp would probably go above 70C. And you can forget running dual-Prime.

On my P5W64, Probe/AiBooster shows aprox 6c lower than what coretemp shows.

Just got mine up and running w/ E6600.
Running Orthos now w/ stock voltage and 320x9.
AiBooster, AI Probe, Core Temp all show 51C under load +/- 1C between them.
This is with watercooling that still has tons of air bubbles in it LOL.

Mine won't do 470FSB reliably.:) But I don't really need it to. I ran 32M at 456X9 (4104MHz) last night with no problems. With higher multipliers I need even less FSB. If you want 500+ FSB, the P5B Dlx would be a better choice.

I'm having some problems myself. I updated bios to 0022, still cannot adjust ram timings manualy, tried 2 sets of ram, only boots @ auto timings.

Futhermore, i get BSODs at 3.8+ Ghz when priming. 3.9 Ghz will BSOD right after starting prime. Over 4 Ghz a 1M causes it to BSOD. This is a good CPU with plenty of volts and Vmch @ 1.8!

I'm getting the symptoms of FSB giving out as low as 422.. ><

I run 24/7 with 1.47vcore (bios) (using watercooling) @3.78.

Obviously a e6700 may exceed this, but this gives you a general idea, of how the system can be tuned for a 24/7 point which has reasonable temps and reasonable stability too..

Im going to take this back tommorrow, surely this must be classed as a faulty board? Temps are hitting 80's playing oblivion though my water block is cold to touch.

just for curiosity i ran duel prime at 1.45v and it hit the 90's in around 5 sconds and the alarm on asus probe went off.

This is hardware monitor in bios, stock everything. :(

try using coretemp, the Asus Pro boards do misreport voltage, though yours does seem excessive.

Are you sure that the contact between the ihs and block is good? I have had this problem once, applying a small blob of TIM just in the centre of the ihs and ensuring a good contact fixed it...

Your temps are way too high and consistent with bad contact. Since the same chip was cooler before and you said you have already reseated numerous times, I would try another board.

Ive reseated a few times, its always the same. Ive put my Asus P5WDH back in and temps are back to normal.

I dont think there is anything else i can do except hope for a replacement.

I posted a thread about this before. Both my retail and ES 6600 read out the same temps. The retail is lapped beautifully and the ES is one fast mofo that ran 15C cooler om my Pw5DH.P5W64WS PRO owners should watch out and monitor this, cause it seems im not the only one.

Does someone have problems with P5W64 + Fatal1ty FPS soundcard?

I have tried 0022 and 0215 bioses, both work the same --> non working properly.
For exsample Cod2 +Ventrilo sounds are lagging the computer and sometimes sounds are like *SQIIIRRK*RUTS*WIIUUUUU* and ears blows up :mad:

Is there any fixes this broblem?

On the P5WDG2 PRO Asus have fixed the temp in AI booster, so it reads the same as core temp now (core temp is completley accurate). So I'm sure Asus will fix the misreported temp on the P5W64 PRO too. It's not really anything to worry about, just use core temp to monitor your temps....

I'm puzzled @ some of the latest results in this thread.. My initial results seem to indicate that the original topic poster was spot on.

I just put a new E6700 retail (L629Axxx) in a new P5W64 WS Pro mb with retail 0116 bios, and booting up @ default cpu speed/volts under singlestage phase I got a cpu temp (in the hw monitor section of the bios) of -50°C. Now my Mach II GT is not modded, so I find this temp rather "optimistic" to be honest. That's clearly lower than any reported temp I've seen from any of my other core 2 duo cpu's (I have 5 others, various steppings) in any other 975/965 I've tried (Bad Axe rev 0304, P5WDH, P5B Dlx).

So IF the P5WD64 temp readings are off, they are too low IMHO, at least on my board.

Board is unmodded, but I've put a ThermalTake Extreme Spirit II chipset cooler on it. Running a single 7950GX2 card, the system is actually 3d stable @ 440 Mhz fsb (cpu @ 4.4 Ghz 1.55V, mch @ 1.80V, FSB term @ [auto]). So it'll handle quite a bit of power IMHO.

I'm having an agonising nightmare deciding which board to buy at the moment, budget isn't really a concern (though I don't like paying top whack lol) I just want one with minimal bugs and good features that is going to deliver a good overclocking experience without modding.

Well im sending mine back as I cant deal with the very high cpu temp it reports. Im thinking about the P5B Delux now.

Hmm can you not add your own temp monitoring sensor to the CPU to take your own approximate readings? If you can ascertain by how much the reported temp is off by then surely you could just use that to get the approx reading.

Or if you know from experience what temps the CPU is at a certain voltage at a certain speed on another board then you can translate that to the ASUS 64 Pro and use that to help calculate temps?

Not saying any of that is particularly desireable, but... :)

NOW, version 0215 starts at 1.40 vCore.

I lost the 1.35v setting somehow.

Yes, I pulled the battery and jumpered the CMOS reset. No change.

What happened??

0209 is the faster BIOS - You can try it Yourself. Keep all defaults and run 32M with 0215 and then 0209.

0209 gave me ~5sec better, tried two times.

In case anyone is interested (though this applies to the other boards as well I guess) but sticking a JingTing Forcetake cooler on my Southbridge on this board dropped my motherboard temps by over 10 degrees. :D

Do you know why I lost the 1.35v vcore setting switching from 0116 to 0215 and back to 0116?? As I said, I pulled the battery and jumpered the reset CMOS jumper, so I have no explanation as to why a setting option would disappear.

When I flash my bios I lose all Vcore below 1.4. If you reboot, they will reappear in the bios...at least it does on mine.

Yes, Beta 0209. After you flash and change all your settings, set Vcore to 1.4...save and exit. Then the next time you enter the bios, the lower Vcore's show up...again, it does on mine.

i did a vmch and vdimm mod for this but i got overclocking failed sometimes if i set the voltage too high.

Anyone know how to prevent this instead of restarting the PC again for your overclocked setting? Do you face the similiar problem? ;)

If you meet high fsb fail, I think it's chip problem. Not of all 975x can oc to 450+, even though high voltage.

Apart from the issues that the mobo turns off on reboot if a FSB over 315MHz is set and it overvolts by about 0.05V (Vcore), I'm very satisfied with it. No problems here.

I'm very happy with it too. Not being funny but it's not a SLI-compatible motherboard. The fact hacked SLI drivers work is just good fortune, assuming that Quad SLI will "just work" is a bit silly.

You can flash under DOS using afudos.exe.

Copy afudos.exe and the BIOS file to a floppy disk, create a startup disk, boot from it, insert the disk containing the flash tool and the BIOS file and type: afudos.exe /ifilename.rom

Ive got an iATX case, so i had to mod out the heatpipe, replaced it with a thermalright HR-05 and modded off the mosfet heatsink from the heatpipe, AS5ed everything nicely.

Only problem is, HR-05SLI wont fit on southbridge, theres either caps in the way, or sata connectors. So i may run into heat issues with the southbridge when i OC. (Got a B1 ES e6600 coming in, so im planning to push 4 or more)

Whaddya guys think?

Nice photos. I wouldn't worry too much about the southbridge. Cooling the northbridge is much more important for OC'ing.

The P5W64-WS is not the first board with this setting. I think I read that people with other boards with the VID CMOS in the bios saw no noticeable difference when they changed this setting.

VID, by the way, stands for Voltage Identification (Code).

With 1.528Vcore (measured) VID CMOS Setting from 2-62 no affect

Unless you are running a 64 bit OS, you will probably have to put the /3gb switch into your boot.ini file.

Quick Newbe OC question RE P5W64-WS

I've had some experience successfully OC'ing an AMD 4800+. I realize OC'ing the Conroe is a different process. Can anyone out there refer me to a good, basic primer/guide on OC'ing the Conroe (I have the 6700)? I've tried playing around with FSB and multiplier -- making slight changes -- and am not able to get the computer to boot. Never had the problem with the 64 X2 4800+. System specs are in footer.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems this board cannot clock anywhere near as highly as the P5B. :confused:

P5Bs are hitting around 500 FSB, even unmodded. But I like the quad core readiness and the multi PCIe slots of the P5W64, plus the 975 chipset doesn't hurt.

About to pull the trigger here...

975X performance is better than 965. 975X is hard to over FSB 500+, but many people still like to use 975x.

and that url says in fact that the performance of p965 and i975x are almost identical .... ( look @ the 1M pi, Sdumper and ncsa are having the same chipsets with almost the same clocks, and they share almost the same 1M pi time )

I use the same CPU, Ram, power and vga card, only different from mobos.

In your setup the i975x is better,

maybe your differences is because you used a c2 stepping of p965 chipset wich has loostened timings? Curious how a c1 stepping wil do the 32M pi, I think it`s quicker. Also, the timings and subtimings are also diferent between the chipsets. Ah well...

C1 and C2 performance is the same. I test them a month ago, but my C1 mobos already refund to ASUS.

The timming is almost the same. Which is different?

I am very happy with my ASUS P5W64. This is a Test @ 100% Aircooling no mods and no AC Ambient Temp is around 20-21 Degres Celsius !!
