I remember reading Asus was working on a way to unlock C2D ratio.. Could be interesting.

Does someone here has problems w/P5B+DDR2 on Elpida chips like me ?
I got A-Data DDR2-800 Elpida
ASUS P5B:
1.8V 800MHz 5-5-5-15 = no go <-SPEC
2.0V 800MHz 5-5-5-15 = no go
2.0V 800MHz 4-4-4-12 = prime stable

1.8V 800MHz 5-5-5-15 = prime stable
2.0V 800MHz 5-5-5-15 = prime stable
2.0V 800MHz 4-4-4-12 = prime stable
I thought that the problem was in BIOS, but NO ...
anyone know if there will be a bios release for this board that will allow higher than 2.1v on the ram?
there is no such BIOS ... yet :(Quote:

Man this board is great! I just got it and week 26 6400. Just installed windows last night and up and running with my new apogee block and dual heatercore. just reading the threads on the p5b vanilla and took some notes. TY very helpful guys. 400 fsb no problem. Actually it's strange...when I set all the values in bios and hit f10. normally you would have a quick screen flash and post beep and os loads. in this case the board would actually shut down completely and fans stop ..etc. then the board will restart itself??? I thought my oc was bad but it boots right up into windows and I checked w cpuz and sure enough I have overclocked 3.2ghz 1st try. I just ran a 1M spi. looks good so far. I'm gonna keep going. Anyone have the same shutdown after F10 issue?
Everythink is OK ... Whenever you change sth in BIOS and apply (w/F10 or w/Exit&Change settings) - before restarting, PC completely turns off ...
BTW - did 500MHz FSB w/E6400 under water http://images.people.overclockers.ru/88915.png 501MHz - system doesn`t boot
Waiting for ClockGen ...
Nice man! what is actual voltage in bios? I am at 1.52v
Vcore = 1.575VQuote:
what is actual voltage in bios?
V(FSB)=1.4V
that 1.575V in bios only gives you 1.49 in windows under load, is that right.Quote:

Yes the board is strange where it restarts the power twice when you change an important bios setting.
509 does nothing for me -no stability improvements like 309.
And I'm almost sure unseen does not have a P5B. If i wanted to spend 60 bux more on the deluxe, I could've gotten a e6600 and overlocked it even higher on a P5B so price per clock the vanilla is better.
So, anyone tested the new bios or I will have to be the first to take the plunge again ? :p:
Already tested it on two p5b's, it works perfect :)
testing it since the hour of the release, it looks pretty good to me.Quote:

yes
WE want clockgen :D , gone test new bios on air ;) .
I'm surprised that this have not come up in all these messages. Didn't anyone try to run RAID on the P5B?
Just a word of warning for those considering he P5B (non-deluxe) as the so call RAID 0,1 support from the JMicron just does not work. It only have 1 internal SATA connector and one eSATA external connector, while theorotically you can use a eSATA multiplier board ($80-$120) to to give you up to 5 SATA connector so you can run RAID. There is an additional problem that once you set the JMicron controller to RAID in BIOS. It knocks out you primary (and only) IDE bus so you can't using any optical drives unless you get a SATA version. It really messed me up my new PC and I ended up having to spend another $70 to get a PCI-E 2 channel SATA II RAID card to get my RAID setup running. Isn't this borderline flase advertising?
i squeezed some juice out of her at the last minute but ram is holding me back.
Seems like I have to get a new board, 2.1v max vdimm just isn't enough.
My system wont boot at anything more than 410 :(
Sure, I could try a vdimm mod, but my soldering skills are crappy and I would most likely make a mess and kill the board. :---P
little test , vcore and vdimm mods ;)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../picontest.jpg
The lack of RAID on the SB is the only real downside to this board. I`m kinda tempted to buy one over the P5B DH, and put the money saved towards a HighPoint or Areca.
See the very first post of the thread. I mentioned it. There is no raid on this board.Quote:

Using the eSATA and internal SATA would have been fine if it doesn't knock out the IDE bus when you set it to RAID in BIOS. Wish they have bette documentations. :mad:Quote:

AFAIK this setup is fairly standard and my PSU should handle all that pretty easily..
Thanks
any one a oc tool for windows yet !
I have a P5B (vanilla) and E6400. I'm able to run 400x8 stable (orthos 19hr screen shot below). What I'm finding hard is to get long term orthos stability much over 400fsb, even if I relax ram timings / up voltage etc. I can run a single SuperPI fine, but Orthos isn't coming to the party (i.e. not stable). I will keep reading your site / info for tips. All in all pretty happy with this board.

Guys I have the P5B Vanilla with a 6300 running along side some cheaper 5300 Patriot 2x1gb Cas 5 sticks, and with the latest bios it I cant get any divider but 1:1....1:1 is the lowest...
Anyway to fix that?
Its greatly limiting my OC :(
Im running the 333s currently at 389...
Would be nice to have a slow divider so I can further OC because now Im just ram limited running a 1:1 divider

Hi All
As you can see from my signiture it's been a while [nForce 2 AMD] since I have dabbled with OC'ing and quite frankly i'm out of my depth.
It seems that I've bought a CPU that has one avenue [ multipler x 20] of OC'ing locked. But due to reading Toms Hardware review of the Pentium D 805 I know it's worth the effort.
The Asus P5B with it's 965 chipset was recommended as a temp non-SLi mobo before my core 2 quadra purchase next year so as you can imagine i'm eager to get the most out of the rig in the mean time.
I guess I'm asking for a Asus P5B 965 chipset bios step by step guide to OC'ing on P5B [inc Bios pictures if poss]. I managed to increase the FSB from 133 to 166 to get an unstable 3.32mhz. Due to it my lack of knowledge on memory timings I didn't successfully tie in the correct memory settings to the FSB increase so I returned the settings to defaults due to XP programs [mainly audio decoding & data recovery] failing.
I read Tony's "Asus P5B i965 secrets uncovered" post which I was googled too so I hoping you guyz and galz can teach me the ropes on OC'ing ths rig.
Any NOOB steps or basic pointers to other reading is much appreciated as my 3 days solid info gathering is getting fustrating as it seems intel, DDR2 OC'ing is specific to the mobo manu's bios options interface, or am I wrong? I'm sure with a little help I can pickup & use this glean knowledge from referance review articles like Toms Hardware.
Thanks Optical10 - Great thread - guyz'n'galz
PS. I guess the Zalman thermal paste was a bad idea, should I re-apply Artic Silver 3?

Point #3 is very interesting, seeing my board full reset at every overclock over 300 fsb.
Anyone tested it ?
^ yeah I've been using the 701 bios for a couple of days. It's greatly improved the issues I had with the P5B vanilla at boot up.
i.e. with bios 0509 when you power on, it used to power off straight away, wait for a second or so and then power on fine. The 0701 doesn't do this, 0701 will just power up from cold fine (like any normal system would :) ).
0509 when you do a reboot in windows xp, sometimes did a cold boot (i.e. powers off and then back on). 0701 is a big improvement in that sometimes (rarely) I've seen it still do a cold boot, but mostly it does do a 'warm boot' (i.e. does a reboot without powering off).
0509 in the bios when you do a 'save bios settings and exit' would often (always?) do a cold reset (i.e. power off / on again). 0701 can still do a cold boot sometimes, but from my limited experience it's been much rarer.
Anyway, this is just my experience with 0701 so far. Forgot to mention this is with an E6400 @ 3.4G (425FSB).

OR
2. At 166mhz leave CPU vCore at stock voltage & increase ram voltage up 000.01 for stability? I've read tens of OC'ing articles including Toms hardware's D 805 but until you've gain exper you feel unsure. Do I use A.I. Booster or bios for tweaking?
