setting up an AB9 Pro? with what?
Fugger
Anything bar the 800 mode on the ram will limit the fsb the cpu will do to around 300 to 320. Changing to 800 mode had me over 350fsb but the ram is crapping out due to speeds it just can not reach ;)
I have seen this on a few boards now, all have Award bios, all act the same. I now feel the bios source code may be bugged so trying to alter what is there may be counter productive...a rewrite of the source maybe needed then work off that.
I have a ton of boards here now, all have issues some way or another so i decided to do a round up on the OCZ support forum showing what boots, what runs at rated speeds etc so end users can see whats going on and make informed judgement.
I will start next week.
I'm starting to get tired of waiting on a new BIOS update from Abit. They are so slow compared to Gigabyte and Asus.
Tony your the man. i want memory that just works on my AW8D and when I buy the Ab9-Pro come september.Quote:

You and me both then, I hope it fixes what i pointed out.
Something for everyone to consider is this is new tech...there will always be bugs
if you look at the mobo and see the two small hs above the cpu. there are 3 reg per those hs. i have not checked under the back hs connect by the heatpipe but i would guess to say there is about 6-8 more regs under that one.Quote:

well if you can wait, i read over at abit forums. one user talked to a tech on the phone a new bios will be out tomorrow or monday.Quote:

We are on hold for the moment.
5 phase power for those asking.
so by looking at the board how can we tell how many phases. im just wondering by looking at boards that dont have cooling on the fets how to tell how many phases. its one thing i didnt catch onto at all.Quote:

seriously, the clear CMOS button, looks very badass. hahah. Damn, now i just want one just for the button.
though i dont get why they included headphone and mic jack. i mean my case already has those as well as front firewire and usb jacks...
i got this board with a celeron 346@4255mhurtz.
Bios 911 and 2x maxtor diamond max 10 200gb in raid 0 on the ich8r controller.
When i changes volt, divider, strap setting i got failure to 1 disk and can not boot. Looks that to much change in one time is no go..
is this a common thing?
dont know might try reading over at abit's forums...Quote:

what FSB would i possibly be able to attain using a retail E6400 and E6600 on the Pro board?
physical changes? but then mine would be out of date :(
hey may also get a c2 stepping 965 chipset. that may or may not help with the bugs currently with the boards. since i havent see/hear of a bios today i guess we are waiting till monday then.Quote:

hopefully the listen to you because they were useless during the time AN8 Ultra boards were doing the rounds...........bios updates were slow and definately didn't address any of majority of end user concerns and i had a monster thread at ABIT USA forum which was a sticky as well.............it was disappointing to say the least for 100s of Abit users which were hoping Abit would be a decent alternative to DFI NF4 UltraD and it would have been had they listened to end users :nono:Quote:

com on guys. There has to be another bios for that board around somewere.
I'm hoping they finally release the new BIOS tommorrow since someone said there would be one last Friday or this Monday. I'm getting tired of waiting though. If they don't get out a good BIOS for this board within the next couple of weeks i will certainly be grabbing the DFI RD600 and selling this board.Quote:

Its a Bios from an Abit Emplyoee provided on Thursday(08-11-2006) to a German HardwareForum. Should have more OC-options ANDOR -abilities & better RAMsupport though not perfectly working but Fugger&Co will find out^^
The provided File is named "AB9_13.bin" but a ChangeLog is missing.

Thanks S3D.
Ill give it a try
worked for me, attached it
File was incorrect - FUGGER
Real nice. Now lets see what it can do...
Im hoping this will fix it.
use the link in post 234 for the correct file. the one dice posted does not work filesize is to small.
Yep, removing dice link.
I extracted the file he had to check and it was 7k for the bin file.
On Rapidshare he right clicked to save the .bin file instead of left clicking and going to the download wait screen.Quote:

yeah sorry guys, my internet cut out when I was uploading it, my apologies. Any verdict yet?
Board still won't do crap for me on this OCZ RAM. I had to boot with one stick to up the voltage to 2.1v and the 533MHz RAM ratio still won't work. I didn't see any new settings or options at all in this BIOS. The only thing i noticed that was fixed was the CAS latency issue. It now properly detects it at CAS 4 instead of setting it to CAS 3.Quote:

what's your RAm voltage? i think i have the same RAM as yours and is rated 1.9v. I have mine at 2v and i can do 310M, 1:1. I'm running mem check now.
i was using my c4's @2.1 and then tried 2.2v. im now back to tring the ocz golds 667@4-4-4-12. least im not the only one stuck around 300mhz fsb. i am alos now using just matrox mill-2 pci vid, still the same problems as beforeQuote:

I personally believe the board will need a hardware fix to reach anything over 400FSB and another bios spin to solve the DDR2533/667 issues. ;)
well even with the bios 13 posted above no matter what i try i cant get 800fsb ratio to work. i am stuck at the 300mhz wall atm with 533 ratio.
The 13 Bios did nothing for me at all, I will give Abit another week or so and see what they can come up with, but thats about it, if this board isnt running as I expected it too then I will go with something else.
Can somebody put this thread out of it's misery by changing the thread title?
I don't know what kind of game they are supposed to be back in...
well, it was supposed to be in the game after the release of fuggers review... which is MIA...
Back in the game to get us to thinking that they had changed their ways. The proof in is the pudding though.:(Quote:

i really hope i can at least get 400 FSB out of my 6400...
More like 450+ as we know 500+ is surely possible.
on this board? <_<
I wont be using abit again, too many problems in my past.
edit: tag from css?
uh... yeah, but why? there's only like 3 of us that play CSS...
fugger did you ever get that new board from abit?
I've got the AB9 Pro to boot at around 310-320MHz now with 800MHz RAM ratio but the memory isn't stable ither because of the board or the memory being at such a high speed. I bumped the VDIMM on up to 2.3v but it didn't help at that range. I'm sitting pretty stable at 300MHz FSB right now with RAM at 900MHz 2.2v.
sounds like a problem with the bios then. i still want to know why my 6400-c4's wont boot with 800 ratio. the ocz ddr2-667's boot at ddr2-800 though i loosened the timeings to 5-5-5-14 @2v. some problems poped up but i have found the stick i have doesnt like lots of volts. im off to memtest the ram at differnt voltages and cas to see what is stable.Quote:

I'm going to try for higher in just a minute.Quote:

Evilsizer, i'm Prime'ing at 350MHz FSB now for almost 10 minutes on Large FFTs :). If it will hold for an hour then i will try for 370 and then on up to 400! One of the guys on the Abit forum is doing 400MHz FSB on his in single channel slots 1,2 but i think he said it failed Prime after an hour or so but he hadn't raised the voltage on the MCH and ICHIO.
yea i noticed that even with bios11/13 running dual channle even at stock speeds for cpu and ratio 533 i get errors in windows. if i go to single stick @same setting no problems at all.Quote:

You're running 306Mhz? ~300Mhz range is pretty easy in dual channel. Try for at least 350Mhz dual channel. I think this board has a memory controller issue or something with running dual channel. I just Prime'd for over an hour in single channel 350MHz and now running Windows Memtest and havn't noticed a stability issue yet.Quote:

i see you guys are still fighting the good fight over here in abit land.
gotta run single channel for decent speeds huh,, man your still holding on to that pile of poop ?
gosh guys let go... let goooooooooo
lol j/k or am i ?
come join the gigabyte or P5B team (i prefer the gigabyte team lol)
I'm running 400Mhz FSB now but i'm getting a few random errors in Windows Memtest after a few minutes and i think it's the NB getting too hot. It's very hot to the touch. I've got a 120mm pointed in its direction but i'm going to have to buy something smaller to fit on it i guess cause i can't get in very close for this Big Typhoon. It could also be that this board just isn't doing well at 400Mhz yet too i guess. At 350Mhz i ran Windows Memtest over 100% without an error but then when i got in the 370-400Mhz range i started to get a few. My RAM is running 1:1 and it's DDR2-800 so it shouldn't be the issue.
*sigh*.... the last minute choice between AB9 Pro and DS3 shoulda gone DS3, eh....
Tell me about it. I was going to get the Asus P5B Deluxe and then i got to looking at the Abit AB9 Pro and it was quite a bit cheaper so i thought i would try it instead as i thought it would overclock just as well. From now on i will stick to manufacturers i know are capable of quickly getting out a decent BIOS update and have more BIOS features. This board is a joke! I finally get it running stable now in single channel mode and i'm still getting some memory errors when i push towards 400Mhz and the best part is this board won't even set to 400Mhz! I set it to 400Mhz and then 410MHz and it boots into Windows at 395Mhz. What the crap is up with that!Quote:

I need to make a few changes. Yes, that is a tide water cooling the CPU. Holds about 45c at idle but I will move it over to the north bridge.
that is a classic shot of a gpu cooler on a cpu... although using uguru my idle temps are 38-40c with denki at 7v on a ninja. not sure on load since i have wasted alot of time just tring to oc the damn thing.:slap:Quote:

lol, thanks
The NB is the one with the pitiful little flat heatsink on it connected to the heatpipe and it's nither the PWM or system temp reading. The PWM is the voltage regulators and the system temp is i believe the southbridge most likely. The NB is a little cooker so it's probably like 90-100C lolQuote:

Be nice if these heatpipes go away until they learn how to make them properly.
Be nice if Abit would go away until they learn how to make a board and a BIOS for it properly. I'm counting the days until the DFI RD600 board releases and then i'll ditch this thing and never look back.Quote:
