Can anyone tell me if one brand or model of 7900GT has better mem clocks than the rest ? Which one would you buy ? Or move on and get something better ?

El Rolio what scores does your rig get in 3Dmark ?

hello peeps great stuff here
o.k down to the nitty gritty.i'll be hardmodding my 79 today just so i have it right remove the 'j' resister replace with 50k right?that and adding the .2 volts with paint is all i should have to do right?cus now with 1.55 mod no problums.(710/1800)me thinks i should be o.k than on stablity than right? all i should have to worry abuot is cooling it i'm i in the ballpark or what?if i have to i have a mess of res.to use but only if i need to?
Hello,
I'm new on the forum. My name's florian and I'm from france. Nice to meet y'all !
I have a forsa 7900gt and I did de 1.4v modification so it unlock the frequency (with 1.2v the maximum was 550 Mhz with an original frequency of 450Mhz).
I changed the frequency to 650Mhz and it works fine. I'd like to increase again de frequency but now I'm stucked again. The core frequency can't be increase (the software say the test doesn't pass). Is it because I have to increase again the voltage ? For 700Mhz what voltage ? 1.5 ?
Also the original frequency of my memory is 660. I increased it to 850.
I saw that some guy here have memory frequency like 1600Mhz.
Why theres is a so big difference. Can I run my memory at this frequency ?
thanks for your help.
Xcluzif, you're running ram faster than the guy at 1600 already. Remember we're talking ddr2. x2 your 850 which becomes 1700 mate :)
As for what you'd get at 1.5v on the core, you'd have to do it and find out. There's no fixed amount. I've seen people at stock 1.2v hit 600+. I've seen people on 1.4v hit 700+. Personally, at 1.2v, I got 580 max, and at 1.4v, I got 650 max. Once I get my vf900, I'll try for more volts.
I'm currently running into a problem with my evga 7900gs ko though. When it was bone stock with no voltmods and no overclocking, 3dmark loop overnight would lockup. Temps were'nt unusual, peaking around 70. Now that I do the 1.4v mod, washed the card with alcohol, and applied as5 to the core, I can hit even higher without artifacts (650/800 vs 580/800 before vs 500/690 ko factory oc vs 450/660 reference spec). However, it still crashes same way. However, ever since I've done the 1.4v voltmod, it can run reference and ko spec frequencies without locking up. I'm guessing my card was somewhat defective from the start, but I'd like to see what happens with the vf900 before I decide to rma it.
Ok thanks for the help.
I will try to set 1.5v and see if I can increase again the voltage. And ok for the memory I didn't know ;-)
And for your problem I do not know. Maybe someone else can help you (I'm not very familiar with overclocking a graphic card)
I did this modification : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...asy1-4vmod.jpg
(I add a real wire instead of using a conductive pen)
Can somebody tell me now exactly what I have to do to ad +0.1v to the 1.4 that I already have in order to get 1.5v ? I saw the first page of this thread but I'm not 100% sure of what to do and I don't want to do something wrong.
thanks every body !
Ok I found the answer by myself. I have to remove the wire I added and then do the mod found on page 22 on this thread. I will do the third alternative mod by adding the yellow and purple.
i'll have to run it and see. i forget. i think it was about average for an Oc'ed system.Quote:

I just got my 7950GT 512MB and I plan to vmod gpu and mem...
my pcb has few added parts ...

all red connection from this pic ..
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...7&d=1150787775
... are already used ... i think thats why i have 1.25v not 1.2v... but is this changing something ?
http://chaos.dracopc.com/pub/7950gt.jpg
i want 1.45 or 1.55
Will it work if I add lower yellowe and purple connections?
I have the 7950 as well, i connected the missing resistor on the second line from the bottom, and it brought my core up to 700, im not sure exactly what im getting for voltage because i dont have a multimeter...check your bios with NiBitor to make sure your card is switching VID profiles when going into 3D, my BFG didnt, so i changed that and saved the bios then flashed the card.
Also make sure, you have an aftermarket cooler before attempting any volt mod.

my card is cooled with water.. dont worry.. ;]Quote:

something is wrong with cards memory ...
its infineon 1.4ns ..
goes through 3dmarks 625/860 ..
but games like Company of Heroes and R6: Vegas .. are crushing to windows after 10-20min of playing..
when I lower mem to 700(1400)Mhz its better .. but occasionaly it also crush to windows ..
get atitool and use the artifact scanner. beta15 seems to work on our cards. It seems to be the most "strenuous" tester for my card since it artifacts right away and as long as I keep it artifact free in atitool it's fine in everything else.
The new ATI tool is out 0.26....works on our cards, but doesn't bring temps up to their max, run rhtibl (i think that how its spelled) that will give you you max temps, 860 on the RAM is a decent overclock at stock voltage, mine will only do 825, hit the thread back if you get the mod done

Hello!
Earlier in this post C-Buzz had burn his card due overvolting.
I made same mistake.
i have Club3d 7900GT. The burn mosfet is in picture below.
Its N-channel voltage regulator:
http://photo.ringo.com/176/176605473O302487267.jpg
I replaced burned mosfet and mosfet on the top of burned mosfet like T024484 advised.
What happened is exactly the same thing as C-Buzz card did.
New mosfet burned also with big fire
the upper mosfet did not get so hot and did not burn. so maybe upper one is good enought.
My question is. Is there some other stronger mosfet to replace burned one?
Mosfet what T024484 advised was IRF7821.
If someone need upper one- i have 2 of these left and i can sell them to anyone- since i bought 4 pieces.
Im willing to try some other way to repair my card. Any ideas how to do it, will be appreciated. :)
I appologise my english, im not an everyday english speaker person.
I Live in Estonia.(i hope maybe someone knows that country :p: )
PS.
I copied here story about this mosfet replacing. so you dont have to search for it again:
T024484:
The burned component is a N Mosfet.
It is used by the Vmem switching regulator as one of the two switches.
One is connected to ground and the other to V+.
The one that is burned on your board is connected to V+.
To burn out such a Mosfet means that both Mosfets are conducting at the same time, which in turn means that the voltage regulator was not functioning properly.
May be you have increased Vmem by lowering the value of a resistor, and maybe a short cicuit occured.
Anyhow, you will have to replace both Mosfet's, remove the extra resistor that increased Vmem and hope that everything is still working.
What you need are two N Mosfets with a channel resistance of 10mOhm or less, a max current of 100 Amp and a continous power of several watt.
The housing is a SO-8, but other housings can be used also.
An example is the IRF7821.
....
T024484:
The Mosfet should have a channel resistance of less than 10mOhm.
The IRF7821 can be bought from: www.farnell.com.
I also found a supplier for the original SI4420: www.elfa.se.
Both Mosfet types are made by International Rectifier.
Both Mosfets on your board should be replaced. You can use the same Mosfet.
Good Luck
...
C-Buzz:
card is officially dead ;(
replaced both mosfet's & tried to boot & the same mosfet went up in flames. When I mean flames, it burst into flames & melted my solder joints & fell onto my motherboard Was burning for about 5seconds with a nice yellow flame..
Nothing else was damaged luckily.......
Edit:
Found one mosfet what is stronger maybe: BSC032n03 Is it strong enought?
Thanx and
Marry CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
I have a nooby question:
When i overclock my xfx 7900gt (520/1500) (cooled by vf900) in atitool i get to 550 core and 1840 memory and run the artifact test i have no problemos. But when i increase a bit on the core, say to 560, then when i scan for artifacts atitool dont find any artifacts but i clearly can see yellow dots on the 3d screen. Are there artifacts or are there no artifacts, that is my question.
Will a vmod take away that yellow dots?
they are artifacts. sometimes they dont register for some reason. as about beta14, it wouldnt detect at all. 15 is fine for me.
nice result on ram though!!
what does Ati Tray Tool say ? I mean showing artifacts and NOT detecting them is a bit......odd :) Havent used AtiTool in a whole tho....
Just an update, my old 7900GT cant do 650Mhz core anymore.. i have to back down to 600Mhz core so it will be glitch free on 3dmark06 ( other 3d intensive games seems to be fine.. only 3dmark06 is affected for now )
Iam also getting 1 blue dot on my screen during POST on a fixed location.

Update:
Ok so i reverted back to 1.50v ( formerly 1.55 ) and the flashing spots are gone.. but whats strange is that now i can do 650mhz core at 1.50v, before i could only do 620
Hi I'm looking that picture, because I'm looking for a simplest method to do the vMOD, I have found this to get 1.50v on a 7900gt, I have an MSI 7900gs but i suppose it can use the same method?Quote:

Its OK the method from the picture to reach 1.50v?
I want to use that method on a MSI 7900 GS, I take some pictures from my card, tell me if I unite that I marked on the RED PCB from my MSI it's OK:
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/8114/vmod150vyk6.jpg
I also have a Zalman vf-900cu, but i wont install yet on the card.
With stock I reach a maximum of 575 core -1700 mem
One more cuestion, If I want to do 1.55v I have to unite this points right ?
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1676/vmod155vze3.jpg
I planning to use conductive paint to unite all. One more cuestion I only have to unite the points, or fill up all over the points I have to unite?
Really Thanks and sorry for my bad english
I wont advise 1.55v on aircooling at all.. if you want 1.55v you need to connect another point [Red line i added]
Also the yellow lines i added shows how all other mod guides do the connection, dunno if it would matter if point B+C were to be combine in just 1 path.

Just did the 1.4V on my 7900GS :)
Before mod: 570/1550
After mod: 690/1570
I got a Zalman7000 cu on it so the temps are low, never go above 50 degrees on fulload. Is 1.5 or 1.55V safe then? Think i could reach pretty high with 1.55 :)
One more question, I think i wiil try first the 1,50v, if the temps are ok, then I pass to 1.55v. Respecto to the 1,50v, its OK like I applied on the MSI red PCB?Quote:

Seems to be stable at around 720/1600 with 1.5 but it's artifacting in ATitool anyway, but it goes perfectly through 3dmark05,01 and 06.
Now i only got 1.55V left to try, but i dont know. Its only 0.5V extra and it shouldnt do that much. Or?
Highest loadtemp i've seen so far is 57 degrees, so its pretty ok!
I just made the 1.4vmod and hoped to get more oc then the 550/1840 i had without vmod.
But it didnt help a sh*t, cant even higher 1mhz without artefacts (atitool).
What did i do wrong?
