The Official Dual Core Opteron Overclocking Thread

Alright, I've got an update. It seems I can run prime95 on either core by itself without a hitch. Whenever I run it on both cores at the same time, prime errors. I have ran it on core 2 for 9 hrs. and core 1 for 2 hrs. If i run it on both at the same time, the first one start fails, but the second one fails. I have followed the direction on how to prime dual core over fdrom another forum, and I even went further to create two directories and set the processor affinity both in prime and windows task manager. I've also uninstalled the processor driver. Now here is the catch, Prime works fine 8hrs on running both cores at stock speeds. I think it maybe my mb still holding me back. Any suggestions, remember 2.4 would be fine with me, but 2.7 would be perfect.

The 175 retail I ordered from mwave last week just doorstepped here.

It is a CCBWE 0534SPMW 50032.

Looks people had pretty good luck with those. Was expensive enough for sure. I don't have time to pop it in right now :(

Well my 170 retail just arrived a few minutes ago from ncix canada - here is the stepping info:

ccbwe 0541 rpmw and the batch is 0224

testing very soon....

I just got this one in today and was not very happy seeing the week 0541 on it. But right now its priming happily at 2600 w/ 1.44Vcore. I had it at 1.47Vcore, and 2700 was a no go. Not be best of clockers, but not the worst either imo. I can probably end up with it at about 2600 @ 1.41 or so. This is only one of two that im gonna test though. This one will likely not be mine as i have a CCBWE 0543TPMW coming tomorrow. Im praying that the 0530TPMW and the 0543TPMW will be similar in that they are the only ones ive seen with TPMW.

Hey Budwise,

How does the Opty @ 2.6 compare to the 3800+ @ 2.6?

And make sure to let us know asap about those 0543's.

ccbwe 0541 rpmw batch is 0096

2700@1.55 (bios setting) fully stable with water cooling
Core1 seems to be stable with 1.525 or even 1.5
Core0 is the limiting factor
Will try and cpuburn it...
2800 cannot be obtained with 1.62-1.64V

Im not sure yet. Only had it in for about 5 hours now. The 0541 is kinda a voltage pig though, so im crossin my fingers that the 0543 will kick arse. I did notice that my SuperPi 1M time dropped just from going to the Opteron over the X2. Dropped from 33.4 or so to 32.45. I guess its due to the Opty's better mem controller.

Yay, I finally passed super_pi. I moved my memory from the orange slots to the yellow slots and changed the command rate to 2. I'm ~stable 2.4x10. I'm pushing higher now.

Could be the extra cache thats helping your SuperPI score. Thats my guess anyhow.

Does not work for long and this is only one core. How do I make Windows 2000 boot the "SMP kernel" or whatever that is called in Windows speech?

I currently target dual prime95 under Linux at 1.50 V with 2.62 GHz.

Me? I've got a DFI Crossfire board sitting in another rig that's waiting for a video card and an OS. I was contemplating moving my Opty and cards & drives to that rig... Would need better memory as well though. These spectek chips just weren't made for o/cing.

Edit: anyone got any recommendations on a decent 2GB DDR kit that'll do up to PC4000 speed and 1T, preferrably at low volts? I'm not too concerned about timings, but 1T command rate is crucial.

Well I got my DFI NF4 SLI-DR back and everything is hooked up. The voltage reported in windows has always been a little lower than the predicted voltage in bios, but after the rma it seems like anything over 1.45v cpu startup it isn't even close. It scales pretty well with vid up to 1.45 and a % over vid, but after that it drops down to ~1.4v no matter what vid or vid % I put in. Anyways, I can superpi and do everything else I want with perfect stability to 2.8ghz on an opteron 170 with stock voltage except prime. I installed prime in two different directories and set the affinity... Is there anything else I need to do? I'd like to do some real testing as soon as I can.

I had previously edited my startup with the timer thing to stop it from going crazy in games but I have not yet done all of the dual core stuff listed in the thread about how to correctly install dual core drivers.

Anything I could try would be appreciated.

Get the Mushkin 2GB Redline PC4000 kit.

I am running 260HTT, 1:1, 3-3-2-8, 1T no problems... I'm sure they could do more if the CPU could... I booted up at the same settings at 270HTT 1:1 too, but the CPU can't handle it (tried a lower ratio to make sure, so it's the CPU).

The Redline 2GB kit is high on my list, but doesn't Redline need high volts to run high clocks/low timings? The only reason I'm trying to avoid high volts is because I'm air-cooled and my current mobo only goes up to 2.75 VDimm. If low volts isn't an option then I guess I'll just have to move everything over to the other rig with the DFI Crossfire board. No biggie, but I'd like to avoid this if possible.

the old redline that was utt required high volts, but the new 1gb parts don't require high voltage. mushkin rates them for 2.6-2.9

I'm running mine at 2.8V 260HTT 1:1 3328 1T, I could prolly use less volts, but I just set 2.8 and have always had it running that way... no mem errors, and it can go higher.

I think at 2.75 you will be able to run 260HTT as well, and more, with good timings.

Since I'm low on cash until after Xmas is over I'm just a little hesitant about putting too much Vcore through it. So I forced myself to limit max Vcore for now to 1.7v :D

See sig for rig, running stock Vapochill LS and G.Skill TCCD. The IHS is still on for now (for the same reason I don't want to use too much Vcore ;) )

My TCCD maxed out at 309x10 and the chip maxed out at 3124mhz 284x11 with 1.7v in bios. This is both dual prime and SuperPi32 stable. Got into windows by accident at 3399 when I left the multi at 11x but who cares about suicide shots :stick:

I'm a happy camper so far, I've had several X2's and this dual core is best by far. Here is a list of the previous X2's I've had and max dual prime stable under the Vapochil LS:

4600 = 3180mhz "naked"
4400 #1 = 3050mhz "naked"
4400 #2 = 2980mhz
3800 = 2950mhz

So far my 24/7 Overclock on air is 2700 @ 1.48Vcore. I was able to reach 2800, but the volts needed were too much for me (1.56Vcore) although i almost broke into the 20's on SuperPi 1M (30.2 Seconds). Im idling at 27C and the picture you see below is under full load. Im using 704-2BTA bios.

I have been following this thread since it started.

I knew the opterons would dry up fast, so i bought 4x165's. 1x170 and 1x175

The 170 and 175 were the famous 530's and they are just amazing


I got a 0534 and 0541's and honestly they seem to clock about the same for me on the 165's.


I am running a DFI Expert with GEIL one W BH @ 250ish 1.5-2-2-5


The 0530's are just wow, 2900+ no problem. I have to sell the 175 because it is a little rich for my blood, and my buddy stole the 170 for his watercooled rig.

So, here i ended up with a 165 and it made its into my rig with just a stock AMD heatsink and it seems to love 2.7.

I am enjoying lower Vcore of 1.47Vcore @ 2640, 2700 took a little over 1.5vcore, and I am on a stock cooler... so im playing it safe, especially with the screwed up CPU temp that the DFI expert is reporting. I am at 38C on a stock cooler according to smart guardian lol!!!

Memory is at 240mhz 1.5-2-2-5-7


The one thing that is driving me nuts is my GEIL HATES anything above Vdimm of 3.52. Even at stock speeds, it just cant stand 3.6+ vdimm.

Any suggestions on this? I ran it at 200mhz 2-2-2-5 and it would error out.


Any suggestions to help me out here, this DFI expert board seems pretty tricky, but it has been good to me so far. I threw in two 7800gtx's and didnt have any problems with them, so that is a good sign as well.


Again, i am glad to join you guys, and any insight/advice on how to crank up Vdimm would be greatly appreciated. I love the CAS 1.5, I am hitting 38ns latency in everest! Just want something that can do 1.5-2-2-5 at 260+ and if I could use more Vdimm, I know i could do it! I am stuck at 255 :(

What a disappointment..

Im hitting a brick wall at 2450Mhz. I know overclocking isnt guarnteed, but was hoping for a little more seeing the 0530s running 2900+ on stock air.

Is there anything I can do to squeeze some more out of this, I was hoping for around 2600. Im running 245x10 with a 4x HTT. Ram is 1:1 (this stuff does 280 no problem)

Ive tried putting it to 166. At 250 x 10, Memory is running around 208.

Fails prime at 1.45 in about 15 seconds.

I think I just have a crappy proc :(
