My board died but I couldn't rma it because I cut up the heat pipes, so beware...be sure your board is ok before modding those or get something else to cool the pwm.:fact:
I got a new one sitting here so the new pipes are going on the old board, so it looks like I'm going to have two of these now!!!:D

The simplest way to move forward with minimal frustration and get a feel for the board is to set the voltages at default, memory linked and synced. Just start bumping her up. You will hit dead spots. I learned to let it boot all the way to windows, reboot and bump. If it fails to boot at that point just power it down for 20~30 seconds (no need to remove the plug, just shut it off). Turn it back on and it "should" revert to it's last bootable state. Let it boot all the way to windows again before trying another bump. This method does not work when you bork your memory settings though :slobber: Unlinked is a little tricky and I won't even begin to try and explain how I go about it...and this is just how I have gone about, not a tutorial in overclocking :DQuote:

I went the linked and synced route also. I flashed to beta 6 on the desktop, rebooted to windows at stock levels. I then restarted to the bios, changed my ram voltage to 2.1 (even though it probably isn't necessary) then switched to the 1333 strap and then set the fsb to 1333 using auto detect ram timings. Orthos had been running for 9 hours when I woke up this morning and went to work and the cpu temp was hovering in the high 30s up to about 41 (was jumping around a few degrees here and there) and the pwm temps were hovering in the 48-49 range. If it is still going when I get home, I am going to try to bump it up to 3.2 ghz and then try to play with ram timings.
Just as a side note, the only cooling I currently have are the zalman cpu cooler on high, the 3 120mm case fans (two near the cpu corner of the mobo and one in the lower compartment with hard drive and power supply), a 40mm fan on the nb heatsink using the factory clips, and the cooling fan that comes standard on the video card. I did put thermal paste between the cpu and zalman as well as under the nb and sb heatsinks and (even against what I was told, sorry, but i had already done it before people responded) put some thermal paste in the pockets of the thermal pad covering the pwms. No other tricks to speak of.

I have had this motherboard for about a week now. Still trying to find what works and what does not.
I have one question, in the BIOS setting for Uguru for NB PCIe Clock X16. If left on Auto it sets it at 125 instead of 100. Is this correct or should it be 100? TIA

Go into advanced chipset (or whatever it's called) and disable linkboost, reboot and it will default to 100. I manually set all of those to 100, 100, 100 and 200 respectively. Gfx oc is the least of my concerns at this point (my cards usually don't clock worth a crap anyway) so I just stick with 100 for now...linkboost is supposed to help when it comes to overclocking your video card by jacking up your PCIe frequency...Quote:

Just a thought on what I am finding out. I was having stability issues at 3.215 ghz (9X357.3) with my ram unlinked and set at a 5:7 ratio (500Mhz in CPU-Z, 1000Mhz in bios) and 4-4-4-12 2T timings even at like 1.375 volts cpu and ram set to 2.1. So, I upped my ram to 2.15 and now it is more stable even back at 1.345 volts cpu. Just a thought for some of you that may be having stability issues and set your ram at 2.1 volts. (Beta 6 bios doing changes from uGuru, all other voltages standard) Cpu temps never above 43 celsius and pwm temps never above 53 celsius.
Edit: Spoke a little soon, these still fail in orthos after about 20 minutes, but I think a little more voltage for the memory will clear it up.
I'm using a 6600 & a 6400 to test this board. The 6400 has proven to be 12 hours stable 3.8 ghz+ with 1.43v @ vdroop. The 6600 has proven to be 3.6ghz @ 1.440v vdroop. Neither will pass orthos for more than fours though I haven't tried anything below 400FSB. Also I used different memory kits to rule memory problem out as well. This board seems to have the same "no orthos/prime stable over 400FSB " the AW9D- Max does with some cpus.

I upped the clock to 333Mhz, so my 3060 is now running at 3Ghz. No change to core voltage. I did up my memory to a bit below it's suggested rating and is now at 2.1V
For some reason my uGuru reports voltage errors on CPU VTT and HyperTransport. They are running at 1.2 and 1.44 respectively (I have not changed these).
Is my uGuru out of date?
My Idle temps were around 28C on the CPU and about 38C on the PWM. I'm running Orthos on it now just to make sure everything is OK. My mem is running at 800Mhz, and I'd like to figure out how to get that running at its stock 1000Mhz..but that'll be tomorrow. So far after 10 minutes my Core temp has only gone up to 37C and the PWM is averaging right around 50C.
Currently everything is linked and the memory settings and ratio are set to auto. What shall I try next?

Sorry to hear that, I did read a while back someone thought their board was slightly over-volting the RAM....
Test your memory again! I thought one of my OCZs was bad and it would not even boot when the suspect module was in there and then OCZ support asked me to test the module at really low voltage and see if it does the same. I did test at 2v and it worked! I was putting 2.4 Vdimm and had stability issues with my RAM while the same modules where working perfect @ 2.45v 3-3-3-9 800mHZ on my 975 board. Now it works with only 2.175 vdimm @ 959Mhz and I my E6600@3.7Ghz 410FSB 1.6250 (water).
Finding the proper combination is indeed a pain with this board but it is rock solid (touch wood) the last week now.
How true, how true!! I finally found a good spot and I'm sticking with it until a new beta or final bios is released. This is going to be a great board with the right BIOS update. For now I'm happy with the 3.4OC on my e6600. Leaving the memory alone for now until a better bios comes along. I have games I need to catch up on.Quote:
