Sometimes in long threads the good stuff gets lost. If you are new here and wondering about what temperature numbers you should believe then check out this test I did a while ago.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=573
This is definately a monster topic , infact its so big i cant really tell what should i be looking for?
So do u have any reccomendations of what batch should i seek for ?
Q807A2xx for the E8400 seems to be the best around.
Here are some results from the other week 5.6Ghz:
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4...fastestqk6.jpg
We used a Gigabyte P35T-DQ6 and the ram was Corsair Dominator 1800C7. Was held back by the mobo, this won't be a problem when the Commando arrives later this week.
Thank you very much.
if possible, can someone list out all the batch number and dates they were packed and how well each batch can OC? there are just too many posts on this topic for me to sit here and chart a table from this
my batch is i remember is Q745A356.
True, I think everyone who's been in this thread for a while has seen a bunch of good and bad. But I doubt anyone has an accurate running list of all of them. If they do I'd love to see it.
Also, the definition of good will vary - some want a stable 4ghz OC, some want sky high FSB. If you had a short and sweet set of criteria I bet people would chime in.
For example, I'd like to see like a running top ten best batch list with the following -
batch/fpo | req. Vcore for 8.5x500 | 1 - 2 hours prime & occt stable | temps | Max FSB
luck is still a factor even with 45nm parts.
True there can be range within the same batch. There was another thread recently where someone compared 30 from the same batch - Q808A314 and there were a few bums and gems. But there may be some consistencies like so many out of thirty did xxx.
i have personally compared some within the Q746A batch. some are good most are dud.
TigerDirect just got these in, nice and fresh!!!
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/packdate.jpg
4.035 @1.30 idle, 1.28 load prime and occt stable for 1 hour.
Seems to be a nice chip.
Yep,
I've seen some results from E8500 with Q807Axxx batch, and they seemed to clock very nicely (4ghz with lower 1.2xx volts)
just ordered a e8500 and was told it will be a q807a i guess ill have to wait till i get it to see for sure. but do we think these seem to be good batches or should i ask for something else?? they had i think three different ones in stock.. i dont honestly remember what the other 2 batches were.
You still didn't get one yet? Bite the bullet and go for it man. : )
I think 8500 will be pretty much a blast.
the E8500 on the X48 RF at -19C..

Testing OEM 085A246, at the moment on the P5K Dlx (0812) bios prime stable at 3.6ghz at 1.08volts, hoping to get 4ghz at 1.2 region... at the moment only boxed extreme CPU cooler so waiting to push more ,temps already around 58°C load...
You into another Striker Plunge Nugzo ? going SLI again ...?
What is a common stable setting for E8500? Can it hit 4.5Ghz stable for daily usage? I'm just wondering to see if it makes sense to switch to E8500 from my E8200.

my new 807 e8500 will be here tomm hopefuly..
Just got my new toy at my door. Gonna install it now. Results very soon, but I doubt I'll get anything extraordinary with my middle of the road P5K-E Wifi :(

Can anyone tell how are
Q808A113
I am thinking of getting the E8400, but cant find any results with this particular batch CPU, I want to order tomorrow.
Thank You.
I have a question for somebody who is watching this topic frequently. I just want to know which are the worst E8xxx CPUs in terms of max FSB, voltage needed for 3.6/4GHz and so on. And which are the best ones?
My E8400 Q745A822 goes 3.6GHz with default voltage, also max stable with 1.225V is 9x400, it needs 1.375V for 9x445, actually 1.36875V set in BIOS works fine too. I'm currently still in the phase of testing 9x467 and 9x480, but 467 should be stable at 1.4875V, and 480 is stable at 1.55V, just have to try lower voltage, though 1.525V is not enough. Max FSB is 480, sad but true.
So my guess would be average 3.6 and 4GHz capability, and below average FSB, perhaps even one of the worst.
@Tibu: Interesting, max rated voltage is now 1.25V, mine has 1.225V.
Guys I just got done installing the E8400 but I noticed that my temps as reported by the Coretemp program, went up by about 20 degrees celcius at idle (hovering around 50C). Is this normal or did I do a bad mount of my Apogee GT?
use realtemp instead of coretemp for that :yepp:
I just got my E8400 Batch #Q808A256 3/260/08
4005Mhz is the fastest I can get at 1.41Vcore 1.3Vtt and -12mv -14mv On GTL Not sure how good this is. I wanted to go 4.5 but I think I need more vcore what is the Max Vcore you think I can run ? Cooling isn't a issue for me
Full Load now 35C
testing a new E8400 for me : Q807A124 (unknown batch on google)...4 Ghz stable at 1.21 for the moment
I dont understand how some of you are running your FSB at 445 but running your memory at 534?? I have an option to set my memory higher then my rated FSB but the next step is like DDR-1200.
I want to be able to run 450 x 9 but run my memory at 534 because it can do DDR-1066.
Not sure what your bios looks like but you need to use a 5:6 divider if possible.
new test passed with success : 4.1 at 1.24 :woot:
Planing to buy one E8400 i can choose between these batches.
Is anyone good of theese ?

the 807A have been getting great results
yep of all the results i have seen the 807 seem to be pretty good most of the time.. not so good with the 808's as the rersults have been with the 807's i have seen online
still on the small SS (~ -19C)...

My 8400 only wants to run with 500FSB. Anything lower or higher, and it goes unstable. My memory can eat 533x2 (Corsair 8500C2D) so it's not a problem. Motherboard is a P5K Premium.
So far it's running at 1.400V, 500x8, stable, low temps (watercooled, so temps are not limiting factor either). I am disappointed at the voltage needed to reach that point... And puzzled at the unstable 533, 445, 450 FSB settings (i put the proper divider for memory every time to keep it under 1066).
I am positive it's a CPU problem, i tried lowering the CPU multi, the motherboard would do 533MHz FSB without any glitch.
Can anyone advise on what GTL multipliers I should be using on my P5K-E Wifi? I have no idea what to set those to.
cpu .57x, nb .61x or .61x .67x or who the hell knows...Quote:

mine needs 1.41v for 4ghz - it only bums me out when i am dinking around on these forums and see all the s.o.b.s doing it with 1.3v+/-. just to spite my stinker of a 8400, i am now running it at 4.2ghz with 1.5v!Quote:

Welp, here's my results for now. I know Superpi 1m isn't really a stability test but for me gaming is where stability matters for me. I've been playing Age of Conan beta, CS Source and Crysis for the past 3 hours without a crash. Maybe theres still some more left in the chip but frankly I am a complete noob when it comes to C2D overclocking (just came off the boat from s939 world).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v428/Tibu/4gspi1m.jpg
This isn't bad really :)
I have an important question please: can I set vfsb to 1.35 or 1.4 for everyday usage ?
Thanks in advance
After reading Anandtech's disaster, I wouldn't recommend it... I notice no difference here at 450FSB with 1.3 or even 1.4... And plester I hope ya CPU doesn't run into trouble as 1.5Vcore compares to about &.6Vcore daily for these 45nms... I would go again back to 4ghz 1.4Vcore... or sell this sucker and get another one...
Am i the only one here with Q810A076?
Only googled out another guy from some odd forums.
Volts wise i'm pretty satisfied, can get it 4.5Ghz pi 32mil stable below 1.5V for Vcore. 1.22V will take it up to 3.85Ghz orthos stable atm. Trying to get it to burn in.
Had this CPU for about a week now. Got it from NewEgg, when they had the $190 free shipping on. But due to a new PSU breaking my perfect record of no DOAs I set it aside until I got a new back-up PSU. Anyway, without further ado ... e8400 Q809A161 at the tail end of a OCCT stability check.

First impression is that it is slightly better better than my Q746A510 with slightly less voltage for 4ghz and more room for FSB getting weird at 550 instead of 538. Am I imagining things or has Intel adjusted temp sensor? I'm testing on a mild Swiftech H20-220 Compact kit for my bench set-up but temps seem suspiciously low.
So bumping it up just 200mhz is pretty much another .1v to the vcore which seems to be about where most people have decided to stop fearing for the long term health of their 45nm CPUs.
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/4...8x9occtec8.jpg
I'll probably start goofing around with the memory set-up now.
What is your Step man? It is not bad. I had a Q805A465, demanding lost of vcore, and I did my learnings on those 45nm fragility with it... now R.I.P.
I stood too long at 1.72vcore idle and POUF! no more cpu
Now I got a favor from the shop where I bought it: they replaced it, and gave me the opportunity to get another stepping :p: I really had to keep quiet when the person asked me if a Q807 was ok for me !!!!!!!
Man, I almost jumped over the bureau to catch all cpu's they had in store :D
Ok, wPrime1024, 3DM03, and Occt priority cpu 1h stable at the program. This can from now be tweaked ;)
http://pix.nofrag.com/c/1/5/f7c4468b...58c17e73tt.jpg I opened Setfsb machinally :p: didn't used it I booted with that fsb, to test a bit with lowest possible tensions.
http://pix.nofrag.com/1/4/9/40287a3b...faabba42tt.jpg
http://pix.nofrag.com/3/e/b/d83ead0f...0412664att.jpg The droop is too much, no mod at all on my X38T-DQ6 (rev 1,1 and bios f7b beta).
I think I reached the limit for voltages...this cpu is not a king, but no complain at all, as I should test it with another mobo. That one for example http://www.jmax-hardware.com/forum/i...ic,2213.0.html
Regards, Toy
The higher values should be more aggressive.
As long as your FSB is 500mhz or lower Just keep it at cpu .57x, and NB .61x.,
and and keep FSB Term (vtt) @ 1.10v (actually it's 1.20v real when set to 1.10v in bios).
And FYI, set your PLL to 1.6 in bios, because 1.5, and auto in bios sets it to 1.8v real, not good!
Does the VTT makes a difference for these 45nm's?
ı guess ı've found the most stable setting with this batch q802a570
How far have the E8400's gone on stock vcore? Here's mine running @ 3.6 on 1.080, but past 3.7 it requires more. I'm sure 4.2 is at least within reach and maybe more. But all my volts on the board are minimum and I can physically feel the heat of the case on low. I'd actually like to see how low I could go on volts and keep 3Ghz, heh.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e8400_3600.jpg
well im pissed. the promised 807a i was told i would recieve was a lie.. i got a Q805a500 from what i have read these 805's suck.. anyone have any luck with them or should i send this back to get a different one?? pack date is 4/15/08
not gonna open it to check vid in case i decide to send it back.. what should i do??
Zfactor I have an OEM 805A246, does 3.6ghz at 1.08, 3.8 at 1.17 and 4Ghz at 1.25Vcore OCCT 1H stable... pretty happy with it compared to my other E8400 I had (4Ghz at 1.39Vcore)... pretty a hothead though temps ( with Intel Extreme cooler) at 4ghz going up to 70°C on the cores...
Now testing FSB and it's priming away at 7 x 500 now at 1.1volt... if it can do 4ghz at 8 X 500FSB at 1.3volts I'm pretty pleased...
is ti a e8400 or 8500?? also im on air though.. not going to water this one.. i was hoping for a bit over 4 with this.. i know someone with a 807a at 4.3 24/7 without a single issue.. i doubt ill be able to do that seeing your temps at 4
seems you are one of the few with this batch that are having luck though most i have read around here and other forums hate their 805's.. ?????
just ticks me off since they said they had a 807a held for me and they would send that.. arghhhhh i always get crap for chips..
giorgos th.: what GTL's and vtt you have on 580 fsb?
mine is a e8500 and i cant find anything anywhere from real tests on it.. im afraid it will suck if i open it and use it.. ruined my day after awaiting a nice new 807a..sucks
what were your last 2 batches that sucked??
I just got my E8400 running, 445x9 prime95 small stable at 1.312v. I have a big problem though, idle temps in RealTemp are 51C! while load is 60C. How come my idle is so high and it only goes up by 10C at load? My Q6660 had much lower idle temps than this dual core. Last week I lapped my TRUE 120 because the surface had scratched my Q6660 a little bit and I wanted it to be smooth, did I mess it up or is it just a bad mount?
idle:
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/1734/idlepx9.th.jpg
load:
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/9130/loaddt4.th.jpg
What could lead to such a high idle but small delta to load?
Tomorrow i will recieve my new E8400 Q807A097 . Hope it does a great job :)
Here was my max on air with my E8400 Q745A357. I didnt want to go any higher than 1.39V with air, even though it had more left in it:up:
My 24/7 speed is 4.1Ghz @ 1.34V
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...lant05/122.jpg
yeah i hear those suck pretty bad i guess im lucky i didnt get a 808. were they really that bad??.. just wish i had more info on this thing.. exact number is q805a500...im torn on if i should rip it open and check it out.. guess i could always ebay it..
so what would you guys do?? keep it or return it and hope to get a 807 or better?? seems these are getting a bit worse with the newer batches like 808 up??
also where is everyone getting these older chips the q7xx stuff?? i cant find them anywhere.. ??
I have an e8500 q807a. Max stable on air is 4200 MHz 1.375v in bios 1.41v in everest and asus pc probe.
on another forum a guy has a q805a e8500 at 4.1 with 1.31volts.. so it appears maybe they are about the same or close to it.. not sure..
I have a question and in fact I still don't have an idea what is the solution.
My E8200 does 505x8 Prime Stable (Small FFT) but failed Blend after 30 minutes.
When I do a Blend for 505x7.5, it works perfectly fine.
Now, what's wrong? it looks like the RAM, etc can run 505FSB stable because on multiplier 7.5, every tests (Small FFT, Blend) passes but the moment I use default multiplier, it is screwed.
I've seen questions concerning same issues and have experienced it myself. I haven't heard a good answer and never figured it out. My system was completely stable other than blend. If i were you I'd run a few hours of OCCT, if it passes, then I wouldn't let that blend bother you.
Thanks nugzo but I tried OCCT and it failed too. Well, these chips are weird and despite failing Blend, I could still play COD4 and other games without problems for hours. In fact, Windows never crashes. I tried upping VTT and Vmch without any luck. Perhaps these stress test softwares is not the best to use for our 45nm's?
so where can i find one of these glorious 807's? i was about to order from the egg but i figured i would check here first on what batches to get.
where is everyone getting theres from?
thx
Here's my chip, got it couple months ago.

I've gotten 4.6 at just under 1.4v on watercooling
Can someone make a spreadsheet with a breakdown of the max OC's,
Can say that E8400 @ Q807a097 isn´t so good. Need like 1.35v for 4ghz stability. Was hoping for lower vcore but that seems to be a BIG dream :(
EDIT: About PLL Voltage, is there any risk of frying the cpu over 1.6v or is it safe ??
I can say that E8500 Q809A655 is very good under aircooling.
i have 4ghz 1h occt for only 1.2v vcore :)
i m still testing it.
Q816A on the way to me... will post hopefully next week some results
Guys not orthos stable basically superpi run and thats about it.
Dont think it was stable.... will be benching it again to see if i can get higher, just awaiting to order DICE and get a pot from Flytek.
