New board based on Z77, the Z77RE-75K. Seems to be the same as Z77GA-70K but with additional ThunderBolt controller. Funny, it seems to lack Dolby.
Visual BIOS available on the RE-75K and the GA-70K only so far, but the rest of the 7 series mobos will also get it during 2012 - not sure when exactly though.
What ever happened to XTU anyway? No updates for the newer boards, strange! Is it dead already?!
Dear friend Manel:
I hope someone could try this MOBO DX79SR on UEFI options a lot.
This mb is superior to other two x79,IMO. Only the price near US$350.
:up::up::up:
Paty
As far as I could tell only 2 additional USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel and an additional disreete SATA 6G controller for 2 additional internal ports.
Not sure if there is something else new though.
Maybe it's a new revision of the X79 chipset, better binning and with all the SATA ports working as they should in the first place.
A new BIOS should comefor all the X79 boards I guess.
Not sure if the Visual BIOS will come for these boards as well.
BITS 750 released.
DX79SR TechProductSpec available. X79 C1 stepping confirmation. Finally Intel routed the USB 3 controllers through PCIe x1 lanes on the PCH, leaving all the CPU PCIe lanes free for multiGPU.
The rest of the Z77 Intel boards get updated with Visual BIOS. Finally.
Visual BIOS looks absolutelly amazing, very discreet yet powerful it seems. Good job Intel, finally!
That's why I love Intel over any other, good but discreet design, performance is not the best but there's always room for improvement.
I just wish they ditched legacy already!!!
Siler review:
http://lanoc.org/review/motherboards...d-intel-dx79si
BIOS 0494 for Siler out.
I wonder if Visual BIOS will come to X79 boards as well!
Still can't understand why Intel as chosen to call it BIOS still, specially from the company who started EFI some years back, to later become UEFI as an open standard. Maybe because people are still too much related to BIOS and a sudden (?!) change of designation would disrupt some people's understanding! Well, who tinkers with firmware doesn't have that problem and understands it well, I guess.
Comw on everyone, stop calling it decades old BIOS already!!!
On another note, for you early Ivy Bridge adopters, carefull because the higher temps seen on IB over SB seem to be related to the interface between the core(s) and he IHS, ony TIM on IB and flux solder on SB, at least on some ES. Let's hope Intel didn't let it go into final production. This accounts for the poorer oc on IB.
Dear friend Manel:
Here some specifications at large that you know better than me, IB better than SB.
Ivy Bridge use 22nm, and triple door design.
Integrated Graphic Solution with native support for Directx 11.
Memory Cache level 3 is greater.
TDP from 85 watts to 77 on the average SOC of the IB family.
Improvement over 20% for the global performance, and performance with Graphics the improvement is about 30%.
Thanks Intel.:clap::clap::clap:
P.S.:please more opinions on UEFI boot, thanks.
Yes, IB is indeed better but has some issues, Intel itself has already aknowledged that oc'ing on IB is not as good as in SB, but it's by design they claim.
The problem is that with the stacked 3D design the power density is greater, a lot more heat to dissipate. And since the interface between die and IHS is worst, well, oc gets worse.
The DX79SR is out finally, it's what the SI should have been in the first place.
Checked Intel's page but still not there though, but there is a review already out. 299USD retail price it seems.
Reviews of the Gasper DZ77GA-70K make a really nice board it seems, specially the Visual BIOS that some consider it one of the best around.
On a side note, what's wrong with logging in? If I try to login on the top right side of the page the password shows without hidden characters and the edit boxes aren't behaving correctly!
Thanks for all the information (as always Manuel)
So what boards are you guys upgrading to from LGA775?
I am still torn between Z77 and X79!
John
Hi John
I'm kinda playing the waiting game, see what comes up.
For one, X79 would be my first choice but there are still some issues.
Z77 looks sweet but it's not full fledged.
I'm hoping X89 will be X79 with some of the Z77 good things and without some of the X79 not so good things, or maybe X79 D0 stepping will fix at least the illnesses.
I'm also waiting for UEFI (visual BIOS) to get matured, still not available in X79 platforms - maybe it comes to the DX79SR. That would be an almost perfect board.
I see you are also facing the same quandary Manuel
It is difficult to pick between them, Z77 will give us great performance now, but I feel the platform is rather short lived. X79 (hopefully that D0 stepping is not too far off), theoretically gives us a longer living platform with OctoCore IB-E drop in at the end of this year/next year.
I just wish the X3960K was priced the same as when I got my QX9650.
John
Yes, Haswell will be here early next year with a new socket 1150 so IB will be out in a year.
If issues get fixed in X79, and with IB-E on the horizon well, it looks a stronger platform for the future. Still, quite expensive though.
Still have that QX9650? Quite a beast that one, I was going to get one as well but too expensive and since sockets were about to change I didn't. Great proc though.
Dear friend Manel:
Maybe you know when Intel could release the new BOXDX79SR, this could solve a little bit my concerns about other Platforms from this great Tech Co.as Intel is.
As far as UEFI boot hopes, this new MB could contain our problems solved,IMO.
BTW, we'll need maybe a year to get a stable & safer MOBO's with new Sockets for new CPU's to expend our money.:confused::confused:
Thanks.
Wow, a download available for the BT, after all these years.
It's available for all boards I guess.
SelfTest BIOS Test Tool.
Dear Friend Manel:
This IDU is efficient for general purposes for our MOBO's.
3.2.2.046a
P.S.: UEFI significative imrpovements on board DX79SR, IMO.:clap::clap:
Attachment 126815
The SR and 75K are already available at Intel.
Paty, I don't really like IDU, it's too old. I remember it like that for years. I much prefer IDCC.
Intel removed the BIOS Test tool from our page. What?! Why?
The SR has now the same BIOS 0494 as the Siler, I'm not sure about those improvements on UEFI support. No Visual BIOS yet, I guess it never will come to these boards.
The 75K is essencially the 70K with ThunderBolt as mentioned before.
Dear Friend manel:
Are you expecting Intel will do a Cactus Ridge Chips MOBO to be confident on that mobo?
Well, I have some info that this tech is in use in other fields as aviation and if you know some of this , you could need to study something about
AirBus above A321.
It is not Dificult to implement Light tech in a MOBO but you need to reduce costs, and to accomplish with regulations (FCC), we need more time
to fix some issues on these matters.:up::up:
I'm pretty sure the new 75K already has the Cactus Ridge chip on it, the DSL3510 controller with 4 lanes PCIe if I'm not mistaken. ThunderBolt is not essencial for me, not right now at least. It will take time for it to get mainstream and widespread.
With Apple onboard maybe it gets accelerated.
This same 75K gets a 0039 BIOS finally, which is the same as the 70K's with a lot of fixes.
I wasn't aware that this was used in aviation, specially in AirBus. Thanks for the tip. I believe you're referring to light tech, not exactly TB, right?
Correction: according to the manual, the board uses an Intel L3310L CIO 10Gb controller. Funny, this must be the same as DSL3310, but this one is a 2 lane controller as far as I know, and the boards specs claim 4 lane controller. Odd!!
Yes, confirmed. The L3310L is the same as the DSL3310 controller, a lower power and capped sibling of the DSL3510. Why Intel chose the former on a desktop board is a mistery, or maybe not, but cutting costs in this controller is stupid for an Exteme board IMO. No daisy chain possible, and only 2 lanes, and no multiple DP inputs. Bsd move Intel.
LAN drivers v17.1 released. How come they stopped supporting our boards on these drivers? Guess Intel only considers 5 series and newer for support.
New Intel USB 3.0 driver as well.
Another Intel USB 3 driver released, they're working on it hard.
Also, SmackOver gets a new BIOS 5599.
A lot of people seems to be having problems with the latest Z77 boards, Intel support doesn't seem to help much. Where have I seen this before?!
Intel has announced an agreement with Phoenix Technologies for joint UEFI development. I guess Intel can't handle the heat by itself, or maybe it's just easier to outsource development to those who really know what they're doing, and do it right. It might just be a good move, hope they keep the good work they've done with Visual BIOS - time to drop the BIOS moniker already!!!!
Dear Friend Manel :
Here one contribution from this joined & good companies:
Attachment 127510
We need more commentaries about Uefi implementation, as far as its use to boot a 3 TB Hard Drive with all alone Windows x64.
Thanks my friend.:up::up::up:
Paty
Have you not succeeded booting from your 3TB drive yet?
Intel IPT released for some boards, Identity Protection Technology.
Update to RST as well.
Dear Friend Manel:
The UEFI support to boot with an entire 3 TB is null.
You can only use 2 TB as well.
The UEFI structure needs UEFI files, and in this case I have not a Windows ultimate 64 bits with UEFI capacity to boot as UEFI with all 3 TB's.
That is one of issues to get Phoenix as partner, a good one.
The files conversion to UEFI is an Issue not solved yet, IMO.
Thanks my friend.
Yes, you will need Vista or 7 64bit to boot into UEFI.
Most boards (not newer ones based on Z77) have only a regular BIOS with only UEFI booting capability for the larger than 2.2GB disks, which is somewhat a handycap.
You will require that the disk is formated with GPT instead of MBR for UEFI boot also.
Dear friend Manel:
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
I was trying to make a boot 3 TB's UEFI HD with my w7-64 bits but It is not possible to do.
Thanks My friend.
It seems that quite a few manufacturers are not moving to the new C1 stepping X79. I asked ASUS and they said not for current boards as the new stepping only resolves SAS issues?
I was under the impression it also resolved some USB 3.0 issues too, anyone know the real answer here?
DX79SR does not seem to be in stock in the UK yet, will probably be available in July.
John
John
As far as I know, only the SAS/SATA issues were addressed here.
The funny thing is why isn't everybody happily updating their boards with the full SATA/SAS features enabled, instead of continuing with the crippled specs?! Would that be because then the people who bough the earlier versions of the board/chipset will be furious for having a sub-standard mobo?
Also, that I'm aware of no USB 3.0 support is expected for the X79 in any revision to come, maybe (hope) I'm wrong. But Intel never metioned USB 3.0 support on X79.
Another feature that should now be used is the processor uplink for storage (PCIe x4) I guess.
Dear friend Manel:
What about the 8 core cpu's, because people is waiting for these monsters then they would buy all for a new machine.
You Know something about when these 8 core's CPU's will be in the market?
Thanks friend Manel.
Hi Paty
Unfortunatelly, no word on 8 core CPUs for the desktop as far as I know.
Maybe Intel is waiting for a new stepping with better yields and electrical/thermal performance. 6 cores are already power hogs, 8 cores would only had to it.
Xeons are good for 8 core but I'm not sure that desktop parts are much needed. Of course, we all would love those in our rigs!!!
Dear Manel:
This new schocked me:
Last week an eBay auctioneer decided to buy something. This person or company had managed to acquire a Core i7 Q19D Engineering Sample Sandy Bridge chip 8 cores, 20MB level 3 cache, and running at 1.6GHz. Rather than keeping it for themselves an eBay listing appeared attempting to sell it. The listing price was $1,359.99. That’s a $360 premium over the current top Core i7-990X Extreme Edition processor with 6-cores.
The eBay listing has the seller as abeeftec_computer and a “Top-rated seller” so they won’t be difficult to find, especially with over 400 listings completed on eBay.
Anyone wanting an 8-core Core i7 doesn’t have to wait too long as the chips are expected to see an official release in the fourth quarter of this year. The $1,359.99 price point may be fairly accurate for the final chips the first few weeks they are available.

Paty
Wasn't this some time back already? I think I remember this, a lot of turmoil it caused.
Still, can't remember what happened exactly at the time.
An 8 core SB-E is not that far-fetched, they all are 8 core actually. Only 2 or 4 cores are disabled. This proc you metioned is only an ES that has no core disabled.
Also, all SB-E procs have the full cache, some lower parts have part of it disabled as well. Binning helps here, parts with bad cache or defective cores are binned as lower end parts.
Also, the reason for disabled cores in SB-E is the power consumption, these guys are already 130W parts, imagine 2 more cores heating things up. When OC'ed that would blow any PS or VR circuitry of less tha stellar quality.
By the way, if you look at it the proc is rated 1.6GHz, which makes up for the extra cores - the lower speed com, pensates for the extra consuming cores.
Don't expect 8 cores so soon, based on SB-E that is. With Ivy Bridge-E at 22nm and maybe enhanced process (3D transistors, lower leakeage..) I believe we will see them alright.
Another thing, has anyone seen the new Xeon Phi PCIe co-processor board (competing with nVidia Tesla), based on Knights Corner tech.
+50 x86 cores for HPC, over 1 TeraFLOP. Runs a Linux kernel of it's own it seems.
Siler gets a new BIOS 0515. Also Marvell SATA RAID driver updated, as well as IPT.
Z68 boards still get BIOS updates.
Z77 also get updates, Visual BIOS is now v1.0.4.
Dear Manel:
what about these news:
Attachment 128208 Attachment 128209
Attachment 128210 Attachment 128211
Attachment 128212
Well, this applies for these Chipsets:
Z87, H87 , H81 , Q87 , Q85 , B85.
I hope you have some news about x89 chipset, expected ro release next year? microprocessor -DT Haswell (22nm) for socket LGA 1150?
Thank you Manel.
Haswell is still about one year away, but looks promissing. Still, it's another socket change. No big problem there, but since Lynx Point doesn't bring anything really new to the table.
Integrated graphics seems to be another step up in Haswell, let's hope so. One day, no more discreet graphics needed!
Still, DDR4 will come much later as well as the enthusiast breeden. So, don't expect X89 anytime soon - if it comes in 2013, only in the end (Q4) I'd say.
We haven't seen IB-E yet, Haswell-E will take it's time!!
BITS goes 763.
IDU updated to 3.2.3.052. In case you use it.
Siler gets BIOS 0525.
Dear Manel:
I think this opinion is valid : Socket 2011 to become the dominant Intel high end physical format even on Xeon EX but different pin-outs,
until Haswell will appear in the market.
Thanks friend Manel:up::up::up:
If you want to go all out, get an SR-X with dual socket Xeons, that will give you some kick. Still, be aware that Xeons are still locked so no OC that you can write home about (only about 2 MHz on the base clock).
Still, 16 cores of pure power ought to be something!! Wait till Intel unlocks the Xeons!!
BIOS 0049 for the GA and RE Z77 boards.
Intel Core i7-3970X coming in Q4. It will be the top SB-E Extreme proc, socket 2011 of course. 3.5GHz clock, 4.0 GHz boost, rest same as it's sibling 3960X.
Dear friend Manel:
I have this Roadmap from Intel
Attachment 129128
Awesome, We will have these monsters on Q3 2013, the IB-E HEDT.
I hope you have some info on UEFI boot from new MB's from Intel, and because is arriving Windows 8 to the Market with UEFI improve capabilities.
Thanks Manel.

AFAIK they only have pulled the RAID drivers v11.5.0.1207, whereas the AHCI drivers v11.5.0.1207 are still offered within the Intel Download Center.
Paty
Yes, still 1 year away though!! :-(
Unfortunatelly, no news here. It stil puzzles me that Intel boards lack this support, specially if the BIOS seems to support it. Is the drive formatted as GPT?
Win8 is sort of a mixed feelings OS I guess. For me as a desktop OS I think it sucks really. Cool for mobile devices but not s good fr workstations. Scrapping the Start button and having a Start Screen is cool, I was hoping for that for as long as I remember. But it looks ugly as hell, I happen to love Aero an they ditched it - bad move.
All gaming gurus are already putting it down as a ganing OS, and I can relate to that.
The color schemes suck, the mobile oriened interface is so bad. Well, I believe I'll pass this one out.
stasio, those RAID driversare still there for the Z77 boards, just checked!! Funny, there must have been some issues. Maybe they forgot to remove it from some of the boards.
I see you're on Win8. How do you find it? On a desktop machine, I mean?
Z77 BH gets a massive BIOS update. Lots of fixes.
Siler (and the rest of X79 pack) get BIOS updated to 0537.
P67/Z68 boards also get updated still to 2209.
LAN drivers v17.2 out.
RAID enterprise RSTe out, guess these are finally the ones with TRIM support over RAID on X79.
Dear Friend manel:
What about the third generation processors(22nm) from Intel.
They've announced these could be compatible with MB's at this time.
You have some Info Manel?
I hope to install at my 3 TB Seagate formatted as GPT, to install Windows 8 Pro with WMC included, if Intel and Microsoft have improved the UEFI boot.
Thanks friend Manel for your help.:up::up:
Hi Paty
Some news here: Ivy-E will support PCI-E 3.0 out of the box of course. Quad channel 1866. It's a 22nm part 3rd gen Hi-K+ metal gate process. Socket 2011 130W TDP.
Only avail Q3'13 though.
Haswell on the other hand will come sooner on Q2'13 and has a FIVR (fully integrated voltage regulator). Top chipset will be Z87 (no surprise here). Not much different from 7 series, socket 1150 though.
IB are out and they can work with most recent SB mobos, some with firmware update. The same should happen with IB-E.
UEFI should in fact be a lot better supported in Win8. GPT should do it for you. I think I'll pass Win8, don't like the UI.
Guess Linux on the desktop will have a boost.
x6 is also loosing it, wait till ARM gets a decent desktop proc - we're back to RISC in no time.
Hi,
My friend just gave me a couple of S775 boards and one of them is the DX48BT2.
It doesn't post, though the power LED next to the RAM lights up.
When I plug in the board, the Winbond chip WPCD376I near the power button gets VERY hot. Is this a known defect of the board, and can it be easily repaired if I can swap the chip with another?
Thanks
Hi zoob
Another rig to add to your already long list?! :-)
Does the board even startup but fail to POST or is it plain dead? Does it beep? If it does the beep pattern will tell you what the problem is.
You could try to unsolder the old Winbond chip and replace it with a new (working) one, if you have an old board around. And the proper gear (and skills) of course.
That would let you know at least if the problem is there.
But is it worth the trouble? Only you can answer that, maybe you have some use for it eventually.
For me it would of course, it is a BoneTrail after all!!!
Dear friend Manel:
What about these news on HD 2500 (GT1) / 4000(GT2) class of integrated graphics, such as Khronos OpenCL FP64 support.
Awesome, now is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Manel.:up::up::up:
Yes, Intel is getting there, step by step.
I hope driver support improves though.
I guess it's official IB-E being i7-49xx now, still only on Q3'13. Only a firmware update needed for current platform.
i7-3970X coming soon, with maybe 8c 20MB cache - full config! If this is true it will be awesome. But I think they'll for i7-4990 (rumour still). Confirmed are i7-4930, 4960 and 4970.
Attachment 130045
LAN 17.3, RST11.6.0.1030 released.
DZ75ML board.
BIOS updates for Z77 boards.
Dear friend manel:
These news are right:
From the last Intel Presentation :
Ivy Bridge-E/EP die to have 12 cores, not 10?
full 12 core / 30 MB L3 cache
3.2 GHz inside the 150W TDP
300 GFLOPs in peak DP FP
I hope at least 8 out of 12 cores will be enabled, because the TDP Issues.
Thanks friend Manel.:up::up::up:
With the shrink to the 22nm node the full implementation (within TDP) should be possible, yes.
What a monster!
BITS 767 update
Finally, legacy seems to be on it's way!
Z87 for Haswell will ditch all legacy ports, even PCI. All SATA6G ports as well, no more 3G.
Great news, about time too.

Hi Paty. Glad to hear Win8 works for you. Don't like the UI myself.
I believe Intel will elease ne stuff sooner than planned, we'll see.
BIOS updates for Z7x boards.

Bad move Intel sacking Paul Otellini, good CEO I'd say.
Anyway, don't see a bright future for Intel.

Intel is too tied to legacy, keep saying this.

Z77 BIOS updates.
Merry Xmas!
Hey Stasio
Yes, some time back already, been away.
Dear Manel:
I have my machine working fine with W8 & Off.2013.
How about your experience with your Machine?
Thanks, Friend manel.:up::up::up:
Hi Paty
I'm not into W8, don't like it on the desktop.
Sad times for us all. Like I predicted, Intel officially quit the desktop board line, no more Extreme Series boards for us! :-(
I'm going ARM next time I guess
Dear friend Manel:
I have my Samsung Galaxy S III 4G LTE with 64 GB Sandisk Memory Stick but my Desktop is awesome in comparison.
Why to give up from Intel Extreme Motherboards?
I think Intel will be doing asap new xtreme boards because the world market will demand those in the near future.
Yours friend Manel.:up::up::up:
Hi Paty, long time no see.
I have a Samsung Note II and it's cool, awesome really. Also bought recently a UE55ES8000 Samsung 3D LED TV with dual core ARM proc - wow! My new toy.
I didn't give up on them, Intel discontinued the motherboard business for good. I'd buy Intel any time but they quit, too bad. Not buying any other brand soon.
No IB-E yet and Intel is already working on Haswell-E, support for DDR4 t seems.
4ch DDR4 IMC, 12 to 16 cores, 130W, late 2014
Wellsburg X99 PCH for Haswell-E. LV DIMMs 1.2V DDR4.
PCI finally gone.
40 lanes PCIe 3, 8 and 6 core, LGA 2011-3 not compatible with regular socket 2011 (usual).
Dear friend:
Intel has solve the "situation" with USB 3.0 connectors.
They are working without pressure right now, and very good.
Any news friend manel from Intel to MB for Desktop?
Thanks :clap::clap::clap:
Intel quit the enthusiast mobo segment, no more extreme series I guess. :-(
What now?
X99 was gonna be my next rig, don't know now. Visual BIOS was looking good.
Intel HEDT platform based on Haswell-E will be Lituya Bay.
X99 is Wellsurg-X.
hey i was wondering if anyone knew of any audio drivers for the DX48BT2 mobo that work on win 7 x64?
Hi skabeat
Nothing official afaik.
I heard Realtek drivers work, not sure though.
Welcome.
Dear Friend:
Very Sad discontinuation of support for x79SR MB's-
I hope Intel could give us good news on new chipsets better than any other brand as Natural.
:shrug::shrug::shrug:
Hi guys.. I don't know if this is the right thread etc.. It's pretty much my post post ever!
Ok so try give quick run down and pray please please can help sort this or point in the right direction.
I have the DX48BT2 mobo and running as a HTPC and recently bought 3x3TB WD Green HDD's and installed them into the computer in hope to use the onboard Intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM to make a RAID-5 Array!
Problem is my drives are been shown in the POST Intel (cntrl-I) utility as 746GB and cannot create the proper array??
From what I read around (which was ALOT) it seems that I may need a version of the Intel Storage option ROM higher then what my BIOS has installed.. Which I believe is the latest version on the Intel website. My BIOS version as shown in my BIOS page is version:
BTX3810J.86A.1521.2008.0138.1426
The Intel Storge Manager Option ROM version it has installed is version:
v7.6.0.1011 ICH9R wRAID5
I have installed the latest Intel RST v12.something onto windows, and it shows all the drives in their full 3TB state but there is no option to create an array (which I believe their should be a CREATE button, which is not present) only Manage etc..
I have the drives initialised as GPT partitions in Windows 7 Ultimate and am at my wits end. I could really use some help.
I was wondering if
a) if updating the "option ROM" to a versio. Later them 10.5 (which I read is the version that helps detect volumes bigger then 2.2TB correctly) would fix this, or if this would not change anything.
b) if it is even possible to update the "option ROM" only
c) is there a modded BIOS for my mobo with this updated "option ROM"
d) if its something I haven't even thought about?
Other details: my primary bout drive is a SSD with Widows 7 Ultimate x64
Hey Hock, welcome.
Sorry for the late reply.
First you need to update BIOS to the latest 2006, a lot has been fixed since 1521.
There are tools for u to modify BIOS but at your own risk.
Try 1st BIOS update, if still no luck clear it with Intel support. If they don't help (normal case) try nd edit BIOS.
Post ur results.
Sorry for short reply, my kbd is gone, using on-screen. Yaicks!
