Trust me, the sensor in the NEX 5N, A580, D5100 and D7000 was the only reason I bought my D5100 when I did. 16.1MP full frame performance in an APS-C package, Sony is really stepping up all of their sensors in noise performance.

I'm back with a minty fresh 40D :D

Yup they are.. wait for high ISO samples from Nikon D4. :) Sony said something about creating similar camera in future, that might be quite interesting (low mpix, high ISO, full-frame).

Btw. even cheap A35 from Sony is quite capable thing (same sensor).
