Truth is, Conroe is using very similar marchitecture to K8 but is manufactured at one process generation ahead. Talk to anyone with some decent EE education and they will tell you a 65nm CMOS gate will run faster than a 90nm CMOS gate even when the 90nm is on SOI.

Early sample? with a 6/6/06 launch, all the "samples" that the OEM/EMS have access to are the retail CPUs you will see on shelves 2 months from now.

AM2 is merely a new platform for AMD to build its future 65nm CPUs that's so far down the road. We are talking a full three quarters before you see any 65nm CPU in the channel.

Fact is most of the times first runs of cpus, which are still in Alpha and Beta stages can be significantly slower - as the same model cpu in pre - and actual production runs. We can see this over and over in Intel cpus - A0 can be quite :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty at times

But regardless, I know AMD has been all quite on the product annoucement part, but hey, it would be *extremely* amazing if they could beat a 65nm process CPU using a 90nm process CPU when both are using very similar architecture.

From what I have seen, AMD will not win the 1x/2x CPU front until they can successfully migrate to 65nm (they don't even have a non-working sample to display :(). AMD will however resume dominance in 4x/8x+ arena with HT until the next IT upgrade cycle.

seems we can throw away our watercooling/T120 and back to 7years ago just a Alu_Heatsink can solve the thermal problem of these chips in the future :D :D :D

Yeah how often do you accedently forget to turn the fan on? :D
Will be nice to see how AM2 performs also.

Oh well, looks like the $500 I have spent on good WC will be wasted if/when I migrate to Conroe (I have no preference between amd or intel, only performance :) )

Looks like my GPU will be well catered for though with just a basic heatsink for the CPU, my how things have/will change :eek: :D

Interesting, seems to be the golden season for hardware freaks. Looking forward to the AM2 results, and 'tis a shame to see stephen getting bashed again. Absolutely unbelievable what some people can do.

From what I/others have come to expect from intel in the past couple of years with preschott its not really crazy but bizzarrrrrrr :eek: :D

hmmm, does this mean there are 65nm ES around?? Thought AMD was not close to this yet?? AM2 is 90nm part, no?
