hi i have measured it using a multimeter and have found that in 2d its 1.2v and in 3d ie playing a game is 1.45v :( ,i wish it wasnt so coz even with 1.45v my core can only do 650mhz stable.Also urs was a 256mb card and mines a 512mb variant although i'm not sure if that makes any difference ,but look at the pic except the yellow line -purple and red lines are already joined.I have tried using a pencil twice and couldnt connect the points so far,i'll try once again.Quote:

Hmmm, I could have been mistaken. The 7950GT I was working on was a 512MB version with the Infineon 1.4ns ram. I could have sworn when I checked it stock it was only 1.35v. Maybe eVGA is volt modding on their own to get some bad cores to bin with the higher end cards...unlikely.Quote:

yes that probably would be a likely ans,givin more voltage to make sure the core remains stable at those clocks.Well after using riva tuner and quitting on ati tool i'm able to go up to 670Mhz with my stock 1.45v ,that aint great but aint bad either,i mean i'm sure this chip would do a 700Mhz core stable with 1.55v (i hope)

I havent been able to do this with a pencil and i'm still lookin for a conductive ink pen.
Guys do u know of ny way to do the vmod without pencil/conductive ink pen/solder :p: if yes please post,so that till the time i find a pen i can do the mod and see how far my chip goes .

i connected all the colors together and all the points with a B4(very strong pencil) pencil and its working fine.. i think im limited by the cooling..
im on 1.5V core and 705mhz stable on the core.. my memories is just as good as someone can get - 1780 fully stable and 1800mhz benchstable...
so the mods everyone is talkin about here, the simple connect point mods with pencils: am i NOT to do this with the ink? i have a brand new conductive ink pen and i figure if im cleaning the card and redoing the mod, i should try out hte simple connects instead of the big arc on the top of the card.
but i want to make sure doing it with the ink pen instead of the pencil is ok.
The conductive ink will be more permanent than using graphite. I prefer to solder the connections. I desoldered the bridges that EVGA used and removed the J resistor and replaced it with a 50k resistor and used the bridges to get my target voltage. At 1.6v I would get OCP so I used a 47k resistor on the OVP to get a .3v drop in vcore. Loaded vcore came out to 1.58v with the core at 751mhz.Quote:

Btw, just to confirm (Sorry!!!) you for 1.4V you connect purple ONLY on the third line from the top? Everyone keeps saying "read" but honestly it's not clear anywhere sicne the picture has 3 sets of lines.

man, i redid the mod and still cant get past 560. is active cooling necessary for this thing to scale clocks? my buddy got 630 easy on these cards so im wondering if i need to throw a fan in there somewheres
well, bought a multimeter today, learnt how to use it, foundd hte points to test and see that im STILL at 1.2v. so i shall clean up and try the mod again, this time shooting for the simple 1.4v mod. i have conductive ink pen and will try to do it as best as possible.
does the pen have to be pointing straight down? does using a tooth pick help? would love to get this right this time.
I like the toothpick method because you can really control how much ink you get on the card... the pens can kind of be erratic in how much shoots/oozes out of the tip.. also, once you get the ink pooled in a spoon or something you have to work fast because it congeals very fast.. you should only need about 2 layers for a good conductive strip.. or one layer with patches in the thin areas..
can't wait to try it tonight!
as far as putting mini heatsinks on spots. i have the one on the top side (like you had it) but nothing on the backside. did i read correctly that that actualy hurt performance sometimes cuz of heat pooling? so leave the bakside of the cards where we do the mods SINK-free?
got to 1.4v finally. MM confirmed. clocked to 650 via ATI tool. even messed with gettin mem from 407.5 stock to 450. but its not as stable up there so im gonna see if 420 or 430 can work.
also got a nice lil 80mm low speed fan zip tied to the ends of the cards. but my oh my how the increased voltage spiked temps in the cards. and there is an effect on my cpu too, the increased heatdump IS notciable. but is'nt that why i have the expensive pump and expensive radiator?
so yea, thanks for all the help voltmod thread! i hope to learn more. oh and 7400 in 3d06 so thats a nice decent score reflective of my speeds now.

Hi.
I've just read and read, to make sure, that i didn't burn off my card when starting modding. So I decided to start with the 1.4v mod (connecting one of the purple on page 22). Using my multimeter, I can see that there IS a connection between the 2 points, but my knowledge in using the multimeter to measuring when the computer is on, is equal zero. How do I see that the core gets the 1.4 v, because it don't get any higher clocks at the core using ATITool.

Can anyone tell me if there is one brand of 7900GT that clocks particulary well ? My Calibre hits a wall at around 750/830 but quite a few of you guys have passed 1000 on mem , what would you buy ?
Also , can you tell me what cards have 2d/3d switching ? I believe the EVGA SS does , but what others ? Can I still volt mod a SS ?
Any help would be great .

also, my XFX 7900GS had stock volts of 2.15. the stock volts for this 1.4ns speed bin is 2.0v. hence why people getting good mem clocks.
even though my mem seems to clock like crap.
