Hottdamn my x2 4200+ chip is a freak. im at 2803 mhz on watercooling with an fsb of 295mhz :banana:
getting a 4800+ seems to be a waste of money since they dont go much higher. better invest the money in some good memory.

well, My 4200+ is liking The OCZ PC3500 Gamer Extreme :)

Specs:

AMD 4200+ @ 270x10
DFI NF4 SLI-D (704 Bios)
1GB OCZ PC3500 GX @ 1.5-2-2-0, 3.2V, 9/10 divider (245 FSB)
Aircooled with XP120..

Need More Vdimm to get Ram higher. This Bios only goes to 3.2V :(

I've seemed to hit a brick wall with this chip(X2 4400+), its stable with 1.53v @ 2.71ghz the thing won't go past that point even with @ 1.7v. I'm using watercooling though(6mm tubing Koolance at that) so it looks like I'm at the end of the road here. :(

have you tried playing with the 10x multi and see what results you get there?
I find it quite alot easyer/more stable on lower vcore to OC from there on my x2 4400 ;)

Smids and LV 88 you really found that 10x multi was more stable? I found the opposite trying to run 270x10 vs 246x10 resulted in many different issues, most of which prime was not as stable. Maybe you suggest I should revisit my testing perhaps?

I'm currently at 11x245, 1.53V are needed. Just using cpu burn in to try and go higher will no vcore increase. Current load temps are 45C but ambient air is quite toasty :(

Happy with my 2GB of ballistix tracer. Haven't messed with the timings but it is fine at 265/3-3-3-8-1T/1:1

Certainly. It showed in how long it took prime to fail (all at same Vcore/Vdimm, only change was multi @ 2.6ghz) 11x - prime failed after 11 minutes, 10x prime failed after 5 hours, 9x prime failed after 17minutes. This repeated for a lower vcore at the same 2.6ghz. 11x - instant, 10x - 20 minutes, 9x - 3 minutes. I know if it's unstable it can fail at any time but this is quite indicative of stronger stability on the 10x multi. Also, at my current stable clock with the different multis - 11x = 1.51V, 10x = 1.48v, 9x = 1.50v

Very interesting, I am also curious what your ITE sensors report when you are doing dual core prime, I am between 54-56'C, which seems a bit high 47-49'C single core prime and about 38-40'C Idle, with XP-120 and 104CFM 120mm fan blowing air down.

Case has a 120mm 104CFM blowing cold air in, 120mm rear to exhaust heat, and 92mm 74CFM Delta on side panel to bring more cool air onto CPU and MB.

I guess I will try to revisit the 10x multi again to see if I can do better at 2.7ghz, currently I can run all night with 246x11 (2.7) dual core will occasionally fail though random hours later.

Well my X2 seems to need a load of voltage to get over 2.6Ghz - IMO the extra voltage/heat isn't worth the extra Mhz so looks like 2.6Ghz for my everyday setting. this is 10x260 1.5V dual core load is around 40C.

Now just need to get to work on my graphics card...

The 10x multi still doesn't help me break the 2.71ghz barrier : / Anyone have some more suggestions? I need to get this baby higher to feed my 7800s more power :)

A single 7800 GTX will not require over 2.7Ghz and that's just fact. I have many tests that confirm it on my own box but there are also plenty of articles out there with the same information. Going from 2.5 to 2.7GHZ gave me less of a result in 3D benchmarks and real life gaming than 490-500 on GPU (single 7800GTX)

SLI 7800 GTX (waste of $$$ in my opinion for 30-50% increase at 100% increase in card) will probably take some more CPU power unless you run >=1600x1200 with 4xFSAA etc any high res with high quality pushes the card more than CPU

Hey guys just a got a new 4400+

Initial overclock without diddlng around very much im in windows at 11x240 gaming doing whatever, I am at 1.5 vcore, is that high for this cpu?

what should I expect on air cooling with this proc?

Some games are more CPU depending than GPU and vice versa. CS:S (source engine) seems to be more CPU demanding than GPU while BF2 is more GPU demanding. Also, keep in mind there are plenty of people playing game with 1600x1200 with all settings up :) I find about 2.7-2.8ghz with 7800gtx to be sweet spot for 1600x1200 with all settings up. In CS:S, I do notice bit of diff on lowest FPS with about 3ghz while in BF2, its more of eyecandy on FPS meter going up slightly in general :P If they make very CPU bound game based on source engine... my guesses are even 7800gtx can use faster CPU.

OH NO!

i restarted tried to bring my cpu into windows at 260 fsb and everything was going normal, windows loading screen...then POOF

system instantly powered down, then dead.

I have been trying to fix it for the last hour, when you hit the power button, the fans and led's on the sli-dr light up for about half a second and then it cuts out again.

I popped the 4400+ out and tried to power up, same problem, i tried using an older 20 pin 470 watt PSU, same problem...

i have a 3000+ kicking around, but i dont think that it would make a difference right, if the board wont do anything with no CPU in socket, ity has to be the board right?
Did i FRY MY PSU, MOBO, or new cpu!!!

all three maybe?

I had the same thing when my CPU got too hot. Try resetting your CMOS so it selects low voltage again, this might help.

Heres my first impressions with a 3800 x2 processor...www.overclockers.co.uk were doing them for £270 on Friday

10 Hours PRIME stable @ 2.6ghz with 1.30v ! For the first couple of hours of PRIMING, I was also running SuperPI 32m over and over again. Max temp seen was 44 Degrees

Very stable with highest temps 38-45 Degrees LOAD, and low to mid 20's IDLE. This Vapochill Extreme HSF is the best air cooling I've used.

Just enjoying playing with apps and seeing if 2 cores are noticably better on performance than one !

That's on air? That would make this 3800 better than 95% of all X2's including the 4800+. Fluke or trend? What is the new stepping?

I've got an X2 3800+ coming today via fedex, I should have results later tonight. I'm hopeing that it's NOT a fluke ! lol
