The Venice OC DISCUSSION Thread

Hey guys

Just thought I'd post my OC in here. Hope its the right place :)

I got 2800 @ 280 x 10

RAM: Divider :slapass: 9/10 @ 2.5-3-3-6 @ 2.9v + 1T (2.7 and 2.8v errors like a mofo)

BIOS 5/10-3 on a LANPARTY SLI-D

The RAM is sposed to be TCCD but I aint checked :rolleyes: :rolleyes: (n00b I know) and as it won't run whatever I try (apart from trying CAS 3/2T) then I am checking this weekend just in case it is TCC5 :(

Thinking of either X2 or perhaps SD 4000+ as future upgrades, but I'm happy with my little OC on air on this Venice :)

what week is your 3200 kempez? mine is an 0516 LBBLE and it can't oc fo schizzle :(. max out at 2.75. i'm also running tccd and dfi sli-d. i've tried everything that was recommended to me.

Woot! I finally broke into 29.x in super pi, see sig. :D

This CPU is a bit weird though I gotta say, 2700 @ 1.44v is 100% stable, yet 2850 is barely benchable at any voltage (tried up to 1.67v in smartguardian). Won't try to break this one for a while.

my 3000+ is burnin at 2710 1.35v :)

Well it does 300x9 at the same vcore too, im really really impressed considering its stock cooling. gonna try for 2.8 with the stock cooler later tonight

Interesting find. I've found what was causing my 4 sticks not to run and repaired the problem (some timing issue) and back in game at 2T. I grabbed another venice yesterday which SUCKED hard... however, one thing I noticed between this sucky 0518GPxx vs my magical 0515APAW is that for same volt and same overclock... my 0515 reports temp 10c higher than this 0518.... Could it be just a quirk or is it really that much hotter? I've always wondered why my temps are about 10c north of what other people says under same v-core... right now running 1.57 v-core 2.8ghz 100% stable on everything (including prime) but prime temp reads... 62c with ambient temp of 26c. (now most people report around 52c with big typhoon for similar v-core and speed)... Wierd in deed.

I have just resived my 5th 939 cpu (my 3rd venice). Last time i ordered a 3200+ (0517 GPFW) which only ran 2400 stable, on stock heatsinks and voltage.

This time i tried a 3000+ (0520 CPAW), cause I have had good experiance with the winchester 3000+. But once again I was let down. This only runs 2,3 GHz stable on stock voltage, and i can't force it over 2,6 stable, even at 1,7 v-core :stick:

Even my old mans winchester runs faster then this :(

I consider the idea, to let go of my 939 dreams, and return to my good old 1700+.

Anyone have near a 3200+ venice 0518APFW? Closest I've seen is week 17 which still seem to be doing good....I have the new DFI Nf3 socket 939 board so right now the BIOS isn't much to be desired as the voltages are completely innacurate and so are temps for that matter as well as a few other things when dealing with RAM.

I can get the CPU to 2.6GHz but it fails prime95 within 15 minutes which is at 1.50 + .5 which only reads at like 1.7 in CPU-Z....and as of yet, no ones really sure where to test with a multi to find the true reading....assuming 1.7v is correct......for 2.6GHz to not be stable at that Vcore pisses me off a tad.

I've only had this CPU running for 5 days so it does need to get some more burn in time, and I'm running it 2.4GHz stable for right now until it burns in + DFI releases a new BIOS revision.....

I surely hope I'm not limited to 2.4 or 2.5GHz OC honestly :( After seeing all these ridiculous OC's with the venice on air no less, it'd suck if that's as high as mine will go with watercooling although yes I realize OC'ing is all luck of the draw.....it seems I needed before week18 apparently.....who knows, maybe it'll shine here within a month after the BIOS is released

I'm still having temperature problems... :(

27-28C in the room at all times, unfortunately...
These temperatures are all MAX temperatures, "average load" is a bit lower.
1800 @ 0.97v - 33C max load (32 avg)
2700 @ 1.392v - 48C max load (46-47 avg)
2800 @ 1.5v - 59C max load (55-57 avg) - until it hangs

How do you people manage to run at 1.6v? It goes way past 60C even when I'm only running Super PI to 1M digits at 1.6v, which doesn't generate half as much heat as prime95 for 15 minutes does.

feeling hot hot hot ... :). j/k, that's pretty hot bro. my 3200 venice is running at 2700Mhz with vcore at 1.7. i got an xp-120 with a silverstone 12mm fan that pushes 110cfm of airflow. i ran 32M superpi and the max load gets to around 46-50. room temp is 30 and above because is the hottest spot in the house :(. the room is super hot during the summer and super cold in winter. i use mbm and smartguardian to monitor temps. they both show the same temp readings.

110 cfm is way too noisy to me. If I get an XP-120, I'd get a fan that pushes around 50-70CFM. You think that would be worth the upgrade? Seeing your temps, I suppose mine would drop a lot, though.

110 cfm 120mm fans are really not that noisy. If you get a fan controller, you can have the best of both worlds. Crank it up when you're gaming, and throttle it down when you're not. I get about 37 C load with my XP-120 and 100 cfm sunon fan.

actually it's not that loud pushing 110cfm of air. its max rpm is between 2400-2500 and a dba of 35. i love this fan, it has 9 blades and lite. i'm planning on getting more to use as front and rear exhaust fans. all these cooling and my cpu can't reach 2800Mhz :(. i guess i'll never be able to find a cpu that will run 2800Mhz on air stably for 24/7 usage :(. if anyone wanna sell me their 3200 venice that can do 2800Mhz on air stably, please don't hesitate :). thanks in advance.

What do you guys say about pretested CPU's, guaranteed to work stable at a certain overclock? Yeah, you don't get that exciting moment when trying to overclock for the first moment, and it will cost you more. But on the other hand you'll have a decent CPU from the beginning.

I'm wondering (well, don't we all?), what are the chances that you'll get a CPU running at 2.8 GHz stable? 10 %? 15 %?

I'm looking for a 3000+ now and the reports about those made week 20 makes me worried. So I dunno...

Should I go for stock 3000+, pretested 3000+ or even a stock 3200+? Tell me what you think, thanks!

I would love to grab pre-tested one warrantied to run at that speed :P That usually saves about 50-100% from the CPU price I try to buy at as long as it's retail. (15% restocking for avg and than about 4-6 chips to find one that you actually like out of them)

Well, pretested with 9 x 315 is very tempting, but it is not retail...
Whatever I get, I will not buy another one if it's not a fast one, that's for sure.

Which venice\stepping hast the best on-die memory controller that can handle 330+ HTT

My guess would be either the CBBLE 0512s or LBBLE 0517s. DPMW and EPAW seem to be doing very well for the 0517s. While the 0515s are monster clockers they are known to have a some what weak mem controller.
