Ah I see, well I won't be much help there since I haven't had a reference design since my old eVGA 680i? I do however remember that I always flashed using a floppy (which unfortunately doesn't help you much), sorry Furious!

of course XFX does not have the new P05 BIOS available yet (at least not on their UK site).
I have read many times, that some are thinking of flashing the EVGA BIOS unto the XFX board...can anyone confirm that this will work?

Hi guys , I am looking for the next step beyond my RF but these issues have me concerned , do the xfx have a better success rate than EVGA ? Have they corrected any of these issues ? Should I avoid these and get something else (P45) ? What will be next for nvidia ? Is the next step after 790i too far off ?

is there even going to be an "after 790i"? the move to nahelm is upon us and seeing how well Nvidia and Intel are getting along right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see Intel hold out on R&D neccisary for Nvidia to put together Intel based mobos

NVIDIA was made aware of a possible corruption issue reported by Anandtech. NVIDIA has determined corruption was possible in isolated non-stock FSB/DDR3 frequencies under certain conditions near 1600 MHz. A BIOS has been released on May 21st that corrects the issue. Users can obtain the BIOS directly from their board vendor.

it sounds like only anandtech had this problem, and it sounds like it only happens if you try really strange fsb/dram combinations that dont really make sense to run... and they say 1600 is out of spec? but at the same time they advertize 790 as ddr3 2000 capable? :mad:
and they say a bios was released that fixed the problem.
thats not true... they make it sound like the issue was fixed a long time ago, when its still happening! the situation has improved, but the problem is not solved! :mad:
I'm using awdflash and a USB key. Easy.
Edit: A bit sketchy, but I believe I used this tool HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to setup my key.
I'd still like to know what's actually been changed in P05 from P04. After a months wait it's a bit of an anti-climax.

I am not sure if I understand 100%? Does the PO5 bios not fix the corruption issue? Or is the problem that EVGA is the only company that has a bios that officially fixes the issue while XFX and Asus Striker don't have one yet?
XFX & eVGA share the same BIOS with every reference board.
It's just 1, 2 changes for them to "integrate" the "fix".
Asus has got to "make their own" BIOS because they're not using the reference design.
So wait, are you guys saying that even with P05 people still getting corruption problems?
Is people formatting their drives and doing a fresh installation of everything after they install P05? Because as we all know, corruption might have left some trace in their HDDs causing them to corrupt even with P05.
I was refering to how the latest BIOS releases doesn't exaclty cure all these corruption issues despite their claims. I was probably a bit harsh in my post because Nvidia only claimed that "possible isolated non-stock cases of FSB/DDR3 corruption near or at 1600Mhz was fixed", they didn't say that all corruption issues were fixed. But they do make it sounds like the issues has been taken care of like saaya mentioned.
well for them, ocing corruption doesnt matter it seems...
they probably only cared to fix the issues at around 1600 cause thats what system integrators want to be plug and play-able.
and if that doesnt work, then they would lose a lot of sales to system builders who want to build systems with fsb 1600 and ddr3 1600 and up...

if it has not been resolved and i can and will also confirm this when i get a chance....it will be reported to nvidia MCP guys direct from my end
i cannot report results without proper testing and feedback so no point just saying it's still there as we have to get them to replicate the problems in the labs
Good point Dinos22 but its difficult when it seems so very easy for many of us to replicate this "issue" and have been for some time now? However I have no idea how they or any other vendor handles this kind of research (I always assumed they have a handful of people actually using the motherboards they sell, and using them outside of stock settings? Once again however, the handful of us having "issues" probably represent a fairly small percentage of overall users (and although I assumed they had a handful of people testing I don't think they can test thousands of motherboards to replicate "issues" only a small percentage of us are having)? Hopefully that makes some sense, lol! With that all said Dinos22 do you actually know how this kind of research happens at a place like Asus given your relationship with them? Do they actually setup a handful of motherboards and just try as many different settings and configurations as possible to try finding as many "issues" as possible and then prioritize the problems? Just curious as I haven't really thought about this stuff until reading your post.
