Looks like the ending batch of 8FE4 are ones which are single sided Crucial PC2-5300 CAS3 modules as well ...!

DFI is the only standout and a very expensive solution. Most other great boards (such as Quantum Force) are such low volume and hard to find.

who comes next? Unfortunately Asus.

If you think Abit is any good, it took almost 2 months to get a replacement NF7-S back and bios development is just as bad as gigabyte.

Im pretty sure he just meant that he got the single sided version using the not so good D9GCT. Hence wasnt too happy he got a "inferior kit". The kit that I ordered just afther xmas was of the "16FD5" batch, which also happens to be double sided with D9GMH goodness:P

The new kits can't use D9GCT, as it's part of the D9Gxx family, which are 512MBit chips. You would still need 16 of them for a full 1GB, which means you could only build double-sided modules. There is a discussion about which chips they use in the General Memory section and in the News section too.

Your wrong here... kinda... I think.

As we now know, the 8fe5 are single sided. The 16fd3 are a double sided module as I own a set of each. Unless it is just chance, but I doubt it.

I'm sendign my 8fe5 back as at least one of them is dead, and ordered another 2gb kit. We'll see which ones they (newegg) send me now.

Has anyone seen the SPD value for these sticks?

According to SPD tool, mine should have a stock tWTR value of 3. But that's way too low.

What should the stock tWTR value really be?

Yes but your RAM also has SPD values for other timings like tWTR, tREF, tWR, etc...

These numbers really come in handy when overclocking since motherboards DO NOT set them correctly which gave me the biggest headache when OCing.

You should check them out because knowing those numbers allows you to tell which timing is WAY to tight for your RAM and holding you back from a better OC.

With SPDtool you can read it directly off the RAM. Or you can also find the numbers through everest.

Thanks, i posted a photo of my crucial's serial number and codes, are yours the same ? or the new modules ? I tested the new ones and did almost the same as mine but could not pass 1200 5-5-4-6 at stock volts...

Got my PC8500 Tracers today, also sigle sided... Ending bach .8FE5. Will try them any way... PC6400 ballistix also sigle sided in SWE know :(

I got a pair of tracer today which is also single side!

it is the worst ballistix I got, won't post on tight timing even on on DDR 800
no mood to test anymore.............................!

DDR 800 @ CL 3 With 2,44V No boot
DDR1000 @ CL 4 With 2,44V No boot
DDR 1200 @ CL 5 With 2,44 No boot
DDR1000 5-5-4-15 @ 2,33 runs.
DDR 1066 5-5-5-15 @ 2,23 runs.
DDR 1066 5-5-4-15 @ 2,44V nope...

Already requested an refound. And bought some OCZ VX2 from an local froum for cheap to play with.

I'll have my new set tomorow, we'll see if it's double. The set in my machine right now is double sided, but if I can't find another pair, I'm selling the ones I have and going for something else. These sticks are way too expensive to suck sooooooooooo bad.

I can see nothing even scratch the chip surface, it doesn't have a code on it like those D9GMH b4.

Can you take a pic of the numbers on the packaging? Maybe with enough info we can figure out how to distinguish the old from the new.

I'm guessing the batch ".8FE5" are all single sided.
