I have an infinity and the mormal hr-05 would not fit. I had to get an sli version. They are the same and cool the same. Getting one over the other is pointless. The both help you with nb temp, even if used passivly. As long as you have a fan on it, it doesn't matter what direction it is blowing. mine is blowing air toward my video card.
I have a E4300 running with this board at
3ghz
vcore 1.4
Vmem 2.19
Nb 1.39
offset auto
unlinked 1333 Qdr
I raised everything to the following just to see if i could boot into windows at higher clocks im using the 9 divider.
vcore 1.55
vmem 2.28
Nb 1.7
offset 100v
the pc will boot at qdr 1400 but wont at 1450 1500 1550 1600 what could be the problem?
Do i need to change ltd from 5? or change NB pci Mhz from 100?
I disabled everything unnecessary in bios tried my corsair 6400C4 in the yellow and black slots even loosened timings to 5 5 5 15 2t but it still wont boot at 1450 1500 1550 1600 linked or unlinked.
malik22, if you use unlinked, whats the mem freequency?
try to lower multi to see is there some FSB "wall"
my e4300 had wall on 385mhz:mad:
Could the pin mod for the E4300 help me oce further?
I cant go further than 1440 3.24 ghz It doesnt seem to like other multis im still using stock cooler on cpu and have a 80mm fan on NB maybe temps raise to fast.
You need an aftermarket HSF. Tower, infinity, ninja, gemeni, something other than the crap stock hsf. If that doesn't cure your problem, try putting an aftermarket hsf on the NB. That cured my random rebooting problem. My NB was overheating and causing my pc to freeze. I put an HR-05 sli on there and no more problems.
northbridge cooling aside form the stock heatsink is a MUST, i can not stress that enough.
if you dont put a fan on there its gunna over heat. even at stock its insanely hot.
i've said it before i'll say it again. no matter how cheap asus wanted this board they were absolutely retarded for not putting a fan on that northbridge.
and it would have costed them less than a dollar to do it.
hell 50mm fans are only like 3 bucks. go buy one, you wont regret it.
and you should seriously look into a heatsink and or heatsink/fan for the southbridge, that sucker gets hotter than hell too.
I have a half kilo brass lock sitting on my northbridge, soaks up the heat nicely though the heatsink itself is still hot enough to hurt when touched. Registered temp with a cooker thermometer is only 50c but thats likely under estimating a bit. Highest Ive seen is 150F
Got terrible vcore drops from 1.6v idle to 1.52v under load, done the pencil mod and now the vcore seems a lot more stable (1.6v in bios now shows 1.63 in software).

Currently set vcore to 1.53v in bios, shows 1.55v above under software.
just sitting in windows, my cpu is always at 50% load, usually with 1 core at 80% with the other at 20%.any reason for that? and this rig is really slow at logging of and shutting down(takes over a minute.) performs normally in all my benchmarks and games.currently on the 0401 bios.does it support the q6600?
@ RAMMAN Sounds like a software program causing that. Open windows task manager and see what all you have running. Close everything in sys tray one at a time and anything else running in the background til you find what it is.
turns out it was abit uguru still installed from my last mobo.now my cpu is back to 0% load.
is it safe to assume linked is more stable than unlinked in the bios? and is the q6600 compatible with my board?
