Like i said earlier, the latest Diablo w/ GTR's are nothing like the old ones in terms of tight timings.
Try to get hold of an old pair, with the old heatspreaders.
I still got 2 pairs here, old heatspreaders, both pairs do trp 5 and trfc 48. :)
My Results:

Still Tweaking...
Looking good elloquin. Nice ram you have there, should be able to tighten those timings up a bit for some benchies if you need to.
Prepping REX for 01 benching, does pretty well on air with the new Corsair rams... fairing better than my OCZ Blades...

XP and Vista installed at 630FSB
GTX2? Me jealous...
you jealous , me poor and on water and bread...
(got a good refund for my OCZ Blades had to add 175 dollars to get the Corsairs)
Lemme buy you some vlaamse frieten met mayonaise mate. ;) Curious how the GTX2 modules will fare on the wondertull REX. 1950 6-6-6 would be awesome!
Very nice Leeg, gorgeous ram if they are the GTX2's. Nice FSB too, is that on water and what vNB?
Zeus my 1866 C7 hypers do 1900 6-6-4-X I think these should be able to do 1950 6-6-6 if the NB can handle it.
think these will work good on the REX? http://www.hpm-computer.de/product_i...-1600-CL8.html
or are these better? http://www.hpm-computer.de/product_i...6805--CL6.html
i sold my dominator 1800 cas7:(
but i got the gskills 2200 cas7
stable @ 1920mhz 6-9-8-24:up:
Just grab some D9GTR 2Gb kit (plenty of ram for Win7 or WinXp) and be done with. Plenty on eBay.
These are very high performance Elpida Hyper ICs on the gskills see this link
http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/g_ski...4gbpis_2x2gb/2
So this is where everyone got that BS from:
Don't believe what is said in this review, the G.Skill PIS aren't Hyper for sure.Quote:
If you can't read the numbers clearly, it says "XDT516A3G-A" on each IC. These are very high performance Elpida Hyper ICs,
Just FYI, this is what Hyper looks like:
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/3...dahyper.th.jpg
True that Daniel, the Pi's are just the new Samsung chips that require (very) high trcd. Hypers FTW! :)
Yeah, for the REX use some 2 x 1GB GTR (or JNL it's also very good) and for 2 x 2GB Hypers are the way to go.
Well I'm searching my F3-16000CL8T-3GBPS kit for 3 months from Japan to Alaska and no luck whatsoever...
yes zeus i was just to late to buy your ram. but i want to run 4gb of ram so i guess 2x2gb hypers is the way to go. i almost got myself the gskills as they were a lot less expensive as i tought they would be, but they turn out not to be hypers. so my question is does somebody know a good set of ram with hypers on them?
Corsair 1866C7GT, 2000C8GT, 2000C7GT, GTX1, GTX2 = Hypers
thx for the info
You know with primary timings of 9-11-9-X you could be right there, I had previously thought they were Hypers but binned a little lower than the GTX2's but I can't find what I was reading that gave me that impression.
Well even without the GTX1's, he still has a decent list of ram to choose from.
Hoping to put the REX tomorrow for the first time under LN2, hope that she's better than my first board :)
Good luck mate, have fun with 01.
Just playing with this board again since I picked up a 2 x 1GB GTS kit and 2 x 1GB JNL kit. I thought my 2 x 2GB hypers were picky but these micron sticks are insane, they just require so much more voltage compared to what I'm used to. I pulled off 6-6-4-X @ DDR3-1800 with my hypers, but that is not happening with the microns. The JNL outclock the GTS at 8-8-8-X but they don't respond the voltage well, and don't like tight timings at all. The GTS does respond to voltage, but they have very abruptly ending stability windows where it will go from stable to incredibly unstable within 20 -30 MHz or so.
I'll keep playing but this is not really what I was expecting from 2 x 1GB kits.
Some testing results from my GTS and JNL kits.
For GTS settings were:
7-6-5-15 | 1T | tRFC = 60 | subs mostly auto, some one step tighter
These don't clock on X48 as well as they seem to on 790i. At 1.95v on 790i, they out clocked this kit at 2.20v on X48.

Very nice and interesting tests CryptiK, thanks a lot for sharing! :)
Not good Board is limited to 1.9250Vcore, if I set any higher it doesn't post... did some 2D 6.3Ghz runs and 6.1Ghz 3D... Q822A435 inbound, hope it does a bit better than my current CPU. Another board i will not biuy as my previous REX wasn't Vcore limited but a far worse FSB monster (615 max stable...)
Will bench this weekend prolly with Massman some 01
Sorry to hear that....was hoping to see some inspirational numbers...:D
Quick test in the wee hours on new cascade "Deep Purple":D before I had to fly....next time NB on cold as well. I can boot @ 6 ghz no problem.....as soon as I changed memory things got better, limited with Corsair 2x1 Dom Gt's....have some Diablos to test as well....:yepp: Hitting 6 was a BIG rush for me...waited a Looooooong time!! The 1.944 not necessary but quickly tried to scale higher, no go. More testing required, hoping memory and cold NB will do the trick!!
Great cpu bro! :D
There must be more in that cpu, can't wait to see where it will land but i'm pretty sure it will be over 6.5GHz. Together with the Diablo's it should be capable of doing wicked things, the only thing needed is a REX that will do some good FSB, like the one i had for example.
Let's hope yours will be as good. ;)
Zeus..I sure hope so....being able to boot @ 6+ is a real treat. This is my original RE....I'm quite surprised the poor thing still works after all the torture I gave it on the SS and my first E8600. Was going to snag another board (but the price went up) because I never was able to do really high FSB with this one...that's the best effort yet. Too bad your board died. So, here is the plan.......
Get home....do the domestic scene...keep momma bear happy, play with the little one till she drops from exhaustion...which is hard... Format some 2D & 3D disks, XP & Win 7. Have you come down (open invitation) stuff in the Diablos and have some fun. (could really use your 2D skills) Have a new Otti pot for the NB, had it under water but hoping that cooling it right down with some LN2 will allow us some more FSB. Whadda yah think????? :D
Sounds like a plan. :)
I'd say install Vista Ultimate 32bit instead of Win 7 for 3D and things are ready to become big. ;)
I might pop by too watch the masters at work  and swap ya board Expat :D
I can't speak for Zeus but you've got the wrong guy if you think I'm in that class....:ROTF: I never thought the board had it in it.....High FSB was always a problem for me. The only reason I think its still alive is due to my OCD insulation & a dab of Owens Corning grease in the socket. Once I've got the "shed" built (thank you Belgian slow poke law makers:down:) you can come by and "contribute" :D you Belgian Team GURU!!
I know I'm a bit late to the party but I have a REX now as well.
First kit I'm testing is the blue Cellshock DDR3-1866 CL8 with D9JNL chips, it's the same kit CryptiK is using.
This is the highest 32M-stable speed I managed on CL7-7-7-14 1T, VDIMM is 2.04V:
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/3...dr31920cl7.jpg
Now I'm working on CL8-8-8-24 1T, but I can't even get it 32M-stable at 1000MHz with 1.90V, with the same subtimings CryptiK is using. Even on 2T with even more relaxed subtimings it's impossible.
The specific DRAM skews that worked well at CL7 don't work at CL8.
What's your secret? :D
Got a new one /w new E8600, can't wait to try it out.[had it for some time.] Got some Kingston 1x2 1866 cas 8, micron gts. Hope that works out.
I have the swify block for the stock board cooling. Good enough, or should I go further cooling the board?[full coverage blocks= $220]
I want to try dice on it this summer. Keeping it on a bench for a while.
Thanks Jor3lBR! :)
Leeghoofd, I'm working on it! :p:
Today I changed the thermal compound under the heatsink, the NB was only covered 1/4 by the original paste. Temps dropped about 13° C.
Some screws were so tight I was afraid of damaging some traces in case of slipping off a screw, but everything survived.
This is still the D9JNL kit, testing CL8-8-8-24 2T, 1.95V:
http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/5...dr32100cl8.jpg
32M at 1000MHz CL8-8-8-24 1T is still not possible, how high are you guys running vNB for that kind of stability? I'm at 1.44V right now. Too low?
Then I switched RAM kits for the black Cellshock DDR3-1800 CL8-7-6-21 kit, which is using D9GTR.
So far I managed a 32M run at 920MHz CL7-6-5-15 1T at 2.14V, which is not that great...
Subtimings are very loose ( auto ), more tuning and possibly higher clocks tomorrow!
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3...dr31840cl7.jpg
where did you find them selling these new? thought these boards were discontinued a while ago.
i also had the swiftech block that goes right on top of the HS assembly. although it does work somewhat, it's still not as good as putting on a block that directly cools the NB. with that sock heatsink assembly, it looks like an awesome cooling solution, but heat must still travel though several layers before it gets transferred to the water. full cover WC board is much better, although it also costs much more.
edit: here, post #38 from this thread accurately describes this lol
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...7&postcount=38
Try the new 0002 bios mate ( it has Tref values ) it could help you squeeze them few extra mhz... I never realy tried 500FSB stability on this board... but went straight for 600FSB and around 2000mhz. I topped at +/- 1980Mhz no matter what NB voltage. Memtest would always error out after a few passes...
For high clocks seems the 266 strap is favourable on my board. This REX is in 3D better than my previous one, but FSB is fully blocked at 635... bummer
Heh you mean me? Nothing really, just straight run boot from BIOS with the settings you can see. No idea what I have vNB set to for low FSB/ram around 1996 MHz, I think 1.43v for memtest stability.
I don't use ram skews though, just leave them on auto.
Where can I get BIOS 0002? It's not on the FTP. 635 FSB is pretty nice, my CPU tops out before that so I have no idea what the board limit is.
When you are running 610 FSB + what vNB are you using? Do you just have stock cooling and if so what is your NB temp at. I find it impossible to keep it under 56*C load with stock heatsink & MX-2 with a fan on it.
Yup ^^^^^ Can't find this Bios anywhere...come on Leeg....share PPPPplllleeeeaaassseeeee!!
Thanks, now my temps dropped even more, so with more vNB I'm still getting lower temps than before.
For high CL7 clocks with the D9JNL I had to tune skews manually, for the D9GTR auto works best indeed.
Today I tested my D9GTR kit a bit further, after playing with skews, GTL and DIMM Vrefs and just upping the Vdimm to 2.20V and not getting anywhere I decided to loosen the timings and it turned out one stick doesn't like tight tRAS at all.

Leeghoofd, this is for you! Any better?

It was supposed to be a testing BIOS for my ASUS Rampage Formula but they gave me an ASUS Rampage Extreme BIOS. :(
The BIOS has 2 new features. DRAM Refresh Period aka tREF and Special 133 Mode.
This BIOS should give you better stability at high FSB because I've found that FSB 465MHz is about the highest true 24/7 stable FSB for my board.
I'll share it with you guys so Leeghoofd doesn't have to do it because I don't know if ASUS want this BIOS to be released.
Hey Daniel, that's getting better on the FSB side of things but PL 10... come my friend, you have got to do better than that! :D
Shoot for PL8 and your performance will sky-rocket. ;)
Good to see the good old REX still going strong, i'd love to get my hands dirty on one again.
Thanks Alien Grey. Much obliged!!! Now Leeg...where's your manners??? You didn't say please so no way HOSE "A"!:rofl:
PS ...you will Zeus..chill brother...let me get out of this God Forsaken sand pit and then its ON!!
You could do me a favour if someone could post some screenshots with EVEREST benchmark. One at FSB 470 and DDR 1253 tRD 6 with Special 133 Mode Disabled and one with Special 133 Mode Enabled.
Edit:
I don't know if you can do that using DDR 1253MHz and CAS 5 with tRD 6 so using your own DDR speed is also good. It's just to see the difference in the benchmark.
And I would like to see cpu-z register dump with Special 133 Mode enabled and disabled.
Sorry guyz...currently floating off the coast of Saudi Arabia....won't be home till May sometime....hopefully somebody else can help you out with your requests...
&...please excuse my ignorance...but special mode 133 allows you to do??? Pretty limited connection out here and couldn't read your thread on the Asus site.
@ AlienGrey
I send you a PM
Straps...oh boy...everybody seems to like the 266 strap and here I'm on 333 if memory serves. 400 is a dud on my board. I will give it a try when I get home....more FSB will definetly be appreciated as I'll be gunning for 650+. :D
In your Asus thread (before Company filters shut me down) :shakes: you were speaking about flashing procedure....do I have to use anything special like Afudos ES?? (I think I have one somewhere from when I flashed my Max F to Ram F.)
@ Alien Grey - I missed out on the BIOS, would really appreciate it if you could relink fo a couple of hours so I can grab it to test. I know it's not official but I'm not going to bork my board and blame you heh.
I'd run a bench but I've never heard of special mode 133. Is this a new thing in the 0002 version?
Hello everybody. I'm here testing BIOS 0002. Flashing it went without problems, I used EZ flash 2.
The only changes I have noticed are "DRAM Refresh Period" and "Special 133 mode"
I focused on 133 mode and when I set it to enable the sistem doesnt boot, it says "overclocking failed", don't ask me why because I don't know.
ATM I am using the same overclock that I had in BIOS 1202 (Q9650 @ 4050 MHz)
I dont have much time to test but tomorrow morning I will continue.
If you have any question about this bios I will try to answer it.
Good night everybody!!
@Rafa91
What if you up the FSB to >466MHz and use the 333MHz FSB Strap to North Bridge.
Well, I have tried a lot of diferent things:
-Rising FSB up to 467
-Relaxing memory timmings
-Rising voltages
-Changing from 1N to 2N
-And I have tried with all posible straps and with different memory dividers.
Conclusion? WTF is "Special 133 mode" xD it doesn't work anyway!
Why was it added and what is it supposed to do? (I haven't had a moment to test it yet)
333 is nice for sub 600FSB action, you can go high on ram clocks... but for plus 600 you need to drop to a lower strap to stay high on the rams and sub 1000mhz on the rams... 400 is a no go here too... good luck on the 650FSB hunt man, I really think you got one of the good REXes...
I got a NB pot at home if you need it :p
Hey Leeg, that SS I posted a while back was with 333. So you figure 266 huh? Well, never had much luck with it but will certainly give it a whirl. Thanks for the NB pot offer but have a couple already...a new Otti NB to try, as 6+ months later...still WAITING for Duniek to make amends!?!? :shakes: Hint hint. There, had to get that off my chest.
You've played with this 0002 bios, can you shed any light on the 133 mode question??
I'm also interested in that 0002 bios, can someone please share it with me as well?
Eugene, PL8 is running perfectly stable now, required NB GTLVref +20mV.
Everest is looking better now:

nice runs CryptiK and Don_Dan
CryptiK, maybe try All pre to act = tRP +1 (bios tRP + all pre to act auto)
this should give full gain from tRP.
would like to try 0002 here .. can someone help me too please :D
We've got our own test BIOS to play with today and the Special 133 Mode isn't available in our test BIOS. The revision of our test BIOS is 0001 so I guess it would have been 0002 if it had the Special 133 Mode available.
I think that ASUS already knew that there's something wrong with it and if they didn't I already told them that it doesn't seem to work. I'll see if they have anything to say about it or make a new test BIOS that fixes the issue.
I think that everyone already knows that the old download link doesn't work anymore because I removed the BIOS but some of you already have the new download link so I would appreciate it if you share it with it eachother an give the link in a PM to who wants it for testing. I just don't want it to be available just yet for everyone so I won't post the link here and I hope you understand this and do this too.
good luck man, so Asus doesn't suck that much then :p
this is my max to 1m SuperPi on dual core, with bios 1201.
ON quad is the max 538 fsb.
MAX 32m Superpi on quad is 528 fsb

Thanks cheapseats! :)
Today I tried to make a score for the 32M low clock challenge, but I failed...
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/550...dr31900cl7.jpg
Afterwards I flashed to BIOS 0002 ( btw thanks to the guys sending me the link  ), flashing worked without a problem, but when I typed in the 32M clocks that were entirely stable in BIOS 1202, I got "Overclocking Failed", no matter if Special 133 Mode was enabled or disabled.
Having the possibility to control tREF is nice, but adding Special 133 Mode was not a good idea.
Wow, 666 FSB  Was than on DICE/LN2?
Keep at it mate, that was a very nice run. Good ram too, mine won't do tRFC 48 at that speed. Try that run again with a higher tREF (change in windows with memset) -will shave a bit more off.
Hit F1 to enter BIOS Setup and then F10 to save it again.
I don't what exactly is going on but if I change the tREF timing in the BIOS, I also get sometimes the "Overclocking Failed" message. Trying the above seems to reset it and then it posts and seems to be working.
Hey Daniel, try using the highest value for Refreshing Period (tREF), kill as many processes as possible, set explorer to low priority and SuperPi to high prio, run 2x 512k before each run and eh... don't give up!
It's been too long since i participated in the LCC, i forgot them tweaks. :)
Thanks mate! :)
The RAM is decent, I just wish it could run a bit tighter tRAS.
Thanks for the tip, I'll run a higher tREF next time, didn't know that.
Hehe Eugene, I'm doing all that already. ;)
Thanks for the hint about tREF though, didn't know that.
Using BIOS 0403 like the other guys in the LCC should help as well, at least that's what I'm hoping. :D
No more testing right now unfortunately, I'm back at university again and all my overclocking gear is at my parents' house.
can someone send me this bios in pm please, BIOS 0002 thank you.
Just doing some FSB testing. Took the CPU somewhat out of the equation by putting it on DICE. It's still not a great CPU (max SPI32M is 630 FSB, max Everest 640 FSB) but now I have a better idea of what the board can do for when I get my better chip.

Nice work, sadly when upping the CPU speed things will get ugly :p
Oh absolutely, I'm under no illusions there. This CPU won't do 6.3 2D even on LN2 I suspect, it could only do 5.8GHz on DICE. I was purely testing the board, and I should have a much better CPU in the next couple of weeks.
Just got my REX today and have a bunch of chips to run on it.
Loading my os and doing tweeks before i go SS
my first chip will be the E6400 to see what the board can do, also i will be reading this thread....
anyone still active with the REX? :surf:
Mine stop working last week without reason... :( I have sent it to RMA
+1 Zsams baby, even though my board prefers the old DGTR's for 630FSB action...
There's still a few of us still active with this board, but pretty much just benchers, not 24/7.
Anyone still have a copy of that 0002 bios they would like to share?
what is CT mod?
+1.
CT mod = clock twister moderate
I am about to get hold of one of these as a replacement for a bug ridden ASUS P5E3. (poorly designed board essentially X38 put onto a P35 board without an EPS 12V 8 pin connector)...
2 Questions.
1) How good is this board with 8GB? I remember when it first came out people had issues with RAM compatibility, but I recall since BIOS 0801 onwards ASUS have managed to improve the memory compatibility..
2) How good is this board with a QX9650 on air (Xigmatek S1284EE with Crossbow backplate (has a hole for the Fujitsu chip)) ?
Ideally (and yes this might to too difficult). I would like to run between 3.4-3.6Ghz @ 1600FSB and (if possible) 8GB @ 1600Mhz CL8/9
The RAM I have is a later revision of the OCZ PC3-12800EB RAM (8GB worth).
I have already prepared my USB stick with the 1301 BIOS to flash to the board :)
Thanks for your advice in advance guys.
John
8GB not sure, 4GB starts to load it up pretty hard, and I had trouble with 460 FSB+ stability with higher (DDR3-1500MHz +) ram speeds with my Q9650 and 2 x 2GB sticks. However if you go for 400 FSB perhaps you could get 8GB stable at DDR3-1600 MHz. It's a brilliant board though, and should be much better than what it replaced.
Asus won't repair my board, they found LN2 traces on the PCB :p
My 2nd REX I have here is a dud;, works fine till 500FSB with high ram clocks. Once I go over 500FSB I need to keep ram clocks sub 1600 :(
