Pinotnoir is New Generation 16-Phase Power Design
no way back
@diezel ?? what happened?
For my memory and as seen in ZenEffect picture Skew needs to be normal.
With enhanced gives some errors and with disabled no boot (tested only max and min values).
Also auto gives errors again.
Seems that twister can be set strong with ease with no additional nb voltage.
But since stronger is a new option i wonder if moderate/strong is the same and stronger is the old strong option...
Well fired up 0219 last night. At first, I thought it was trash. Fact is, I just have to re-learn how to tweak the BIOS. After dedicating some time to figure out all the extra settings, I got 2x1GB 1066 Ballistix running at 1200 with a trans booster Performance Level setting of 7 so far and Clock Twister set to Stronger, Static Read disabled. Overall I am seeing a small improvement in scores. The biggest thing for me though is the stability at 502*8. When it was a Maximus, it would randomly reboot when using the 8 multi and 500+ FSB. It would be OCCT and Prime stable for hours, but every now and again while folding, it would reboot. This has not happened since the conversion to Rampage. This BIOS seems pretty good, everything runs smooth.
I've had this happen to me a few times before. I tried the clear cmos button on the back panel and also the switch just above the south bridge. Both did not work.
The only way I solved it was to release the CMOS battery, leave it about a minute, put it back in and restart. All settings revert to default of course but at least the keyboard works. I don't see why neither of the clear cmos switches work since they are supposed to do effectively what pulling the battery does.
Seems like strong is different than moderate.
So i made a mistake.
Tweaking further...
Testing between PL5 - phases disabled and PL6 - phases enabled.
All of the tests were made with identical settings of hardware and without any win tweaking..
Just configured bios and booted.
The only thing i used was setfsb cause i booted at 399fsb to see if anything changed between the 2 PLs.

man, I HATE this mobo!
Yeah, I'm a noob, but I was thinking better motherboards should make things easier, not the hell on earth!
Tried everything, can't get even some 3.0ghz. No BOOT, on ANY settings suggested here, nor even the ANANDtech suggestion.
Nothing work! I'm really pissed! Now all I want is some good, big axe, to chop it to bits.
my set should make it easy.
q6600 G0,
2x1gb XMS2 800mhz,
TRUE 2x120mm
If someone solve it for me, thanks!
just wanting some 3.4 - 3.5ghz
I think I should go back to Abit :(
Either you got a dud mobo or some other hardware is hindering ya OC, really 3ghz is a no brainer...
Secondly you give us very little input here, I too can tell ya my cat is sick and... what can you do about it ?....
We need a full list of ya hardware, bios version used, fill in the template of the bios, temps you are getting...
http://www.china-handles.com/product...andle_5788.jpg
I think this is probably your best solution :p:
But in all seriousness, list your full hardware and give us more to work with and I'm sure there are people here who can help if your board isn't a dud.
Just flashed to bios 0219. Used the exact settings that i used in bios 0207 and now it wont boot. And one more thing is that i can only boot if i leave the vcore on auto when overclocking. Have i missed something ??
Anyone here help me with Extreme Tweaker settings to mildly OC my QX9650 on the Formula with Corsair 2x2GB PC8500? Hoping to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.6GHz - 3.8GHz while on air.
Just flashed back to MF bios 1004. When I first tried this bios some days back, all overclocks reverted to stock on post. This time around, it works!
Anyway, this is 8x495, 8x498, 8x500 (E8400), with 1.51 VNB, PL7
8x505 1.55 VNB PL7
Edit: Full ram settings: 5-5-5-15-3-35-6-3-8-3-5-4-6-4-6
Could someone run this identical settings in RF and let's see what the difference could possibly be? Thanks.
in the back side (IO shield) the mobo has a green clear cmos button..
turn off your pc and push it a few times.then try again putting the settings manually.
I'm really starting to like this being a Rampage. I am getting better performance and for some odd reason I can clock the shader on my GPU higher?!?! I'm not understanding that one at all.

a possible fix on nb gtl settings might allow your video to oc higher *i believe* so with these bios' perhaps asus did something right in this aspect
a couple of things i dont understand looking @ all these pics is why is my cpu l2cache latency lower than everyone elses, even with the same cpu and why does my copy and write suck so bad?
Renegade is running 506Mhz FSB whereas according to your screenshot here...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=425
...you're only doing 437Mhz. Write and copy scores are heavily dependent on FSB speed so bump it up if you want to get closer :)
Green Button, will try that out. Seems like 0219 having problems with 0.5 multis for me. 450x9 no problem, but 450x9,5 not wanna enter windows :/
Anyone got some voltage settings they are using? I will post mine up soon, but I am still trying to get every last bit outta this board. I would really like to get 475 stable, which is getting closer.
Where can i find bios 0217 ?
Quick Q: Blue or White Dimm slots for the best OC-ability:Vdimm and stability?
well, after a bit of tweaking im relativley happy; howver i think i can get a little bit more oudda my hardware...

DDR2 Channel B REF Voltage : auto
DDR2 Controller REF Voltage : DDR2_REF
SB 1.5V Voltage : 1.5
took the template from the maximus thread but whatever
@ericab
play with the transaction booster, i was able to get pl5 out of my ram *set as 6 but pull ins are enabled to make it 5*
everything is at stock and it still happens every few re-boots
could my voltages be too high?...I have all the voltages set to 'Auto' in the BIOS but according to PC Probe my Vcore is 1.20, NB= 48C (1.36V), SB= 44C (1.07V)
what should I set my NB, SB, CPU and CPU PLL voltages to for optimal performance at stock settings?
zen, i tried playing with the booster..... ANYTHING less then what its already at, is an automatic DET RAM~ :(Quote:
@ericab

btw my ram is Crucial Ballistix PC6400....
here are my voltages also.

DDR2 Controller REF Voltage : DDR2_REF
SB 1.5V Voltage : 1.5
Same here , I'm so :banana::banana::banana:ing sick of that Det Ram. Had is sorted on the MF now its back and hard as hell to sort out.
If I run Trans Booster on anything but Auto I get the hang.
Yeah, you guys run lower NB voltage, I cant seem to get 8GB any lower than 1.61v-1.63v
Thanks for the info, I will see what I can do with it.
@Grnfinger try booster manual with dram static control disabled..
I will give it a shot
key things i noticed to get trans booster to work *for me* were
i HAVE to be at cas4 for pl below 7
i HAVE to set the fsb strap to 400
if i manually set pl to 5 i get system hang
if i manually set pl to 6 and do pull ins for pl of 5, it works.
now imma go eat some pizza
My bios settings.
No luck still get the hang
Running ram @ 5-5-5-15-3-35-6-3
Dram Static = Auto
Clock Twister =Stronger
Trans Booster =Auto
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...ger/RF_Ram.png
Not bad at all but I would like to play with the setting. Anything but Auto and it wont boot
Trans Booster only works with the 333 and 400 settings for me. Any others and I get DET DRAM hang. I also run my NB voltage higher. 1.67v or so with water cooling.
Edited my post. I left out 2 very important words: "for me".
My bad.
Keep in mind I am running 4x1GB sticks of 1066 (OCZ and Crucial) at 5-5-5-15 with Perf. lvl. set to 7. I am rather impressed overall.
I just checked CPU-Z and my memory settings look strange...why do JDEC #1, JDEC #2 and EPP #1 all have different timings and voltages?...shouldn't they all be the same/matching?...or is that normal?
also in the 2nd screenshot is the FSB.DRAM supposed to be running at 5:6?
http://img5.uploadhouse.com/fileuplo...c30eac2983.jpg http://img2.uploadhouse.com/fileuplo...c044461206.jpg
most people are posting settings for memory @ pc8500;
i wish i could attain those levels but im using pc6400.
who has good settings for ballistix 6400 ?
Flashed back to 0214 and now i finally can boot at 450x9,5 again. Found a solution also for my auto vcore, reset bios to default and change vcore from auto to like 1.125 and rebooted. Now i can boot with any vcore i will. Simple problem but hard to find sometimes :)
Running at PL7 right now ......
Has ne1 bothered with the comparison that Zucker2k was asking for yet?
If not I will try it after a fresh beverage
i could probably swap in some ocz 6400's from my gf's computer to test and have a go at those settings...
Flashed 0219 from 1004
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6...ablepq7.th.jpg
E6750 - CRUCIAL BALLISTAX 8500
I have a set of patriot 9600's that I will try out next, they were quite stable with the formula bios.
so what is my actual memory voltage, 2.1v or 1.8v?...in PC Probe my DRAM voltage shows as 1.98v but CPU-Z shows 2 other voltages
25mhz more on the fsb and the mobo is skyrocketed....
i wish i had an 8500 to test higher...
grab me a few? :ROTF:
here are my updated numbers...making good progress here.
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2...mem3rp0.th.png
thanks for your time
man, I can't believe. I've got 3.4ghz! in 10 seconds!
I was thinking that was needed to set all that strange parameters to get anything, like all of you listed in yours settings.
But so I "pretended" it was an ABIT, and made simple:
set FSB to 378x9
FSB STrap 400mhz
Vcore 1.375
all the rest on AUTO!
my BIOS is 505
just it! It's holding fine! got 5150 CPU score on 3dmark06,
and the temps are below 35ºC Idle
just can't raise the memos, but it was a nice start!
Does anyone know what the curing time is for a "fresh application" of artic silver 5
By curing time, i mean when does artic silver show its benefits
Kevin
@ giorgos th. , whats your max fsb you've managed to attain with your processor?
i cant get anything semi stable over 430 and 440 is so unstable its not funny and thats with 266 strap and its just raping my ram for MHz, no other straps will work over 430ish for me
this pic was with MF Bios, but have flashed to RF 219 nw, but still nothing very stable over 430. anybody got any ideas, i thought 450fsbQC was supposed to be a piece of cake with this board!!?
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7337/43478128eh0.jpg
i believe its 60 to 70 hours of computer usage time
i`m working 2:3 with booster - 400fsb and its the fastest combination i`ve tried so far..
3BABY both of the QXs i`m testing (L739-L740) went ~445fsb on air.
DAMN IT !
one of my crucials just POOPED on me last night.
Had feeling id get asked that, ive tryed everyhting under the sun for more fsb but the real problem is it doesnt like straps of 333 or 400, will only post at 266, at work atm but here is what i remember. with MF bios, RF or MF aside still nothing past 440, yea voltage mite be a lil on the high side on a few things, will run them down when its getting higher fsbs, ram timings and lats all auto till i can get some fsb stability, another thing is it will hang at DET RAM if the following is not like this:
DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled
Ai Clock Twister : Auto
Transaction Booster : Disabled
heres the rest
Extreme Tweaker
Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
OC From CPU Level Up : AUTO

Sorry giorgos th. i dont have the LXXX number on me at the moment, but i havent been able to get this QX posting any higher then 444.
what is your ram rated at voltage wise? those volts are nuts! the maximus over-volts the dram alot. you are probably running 2.55-56 volts right there. TURN THAT DOWN RIGHT NOW! the ram i use is rated 2.35 and i set it at 2.26 in bios which gives me 2.35 exactly *real volts*
is there a freeware program that shows all or most of your memory timings...CPU-Z shows some of them but I want a listing of more...settings in my BIOS are at 'Auto' so I want to see what values 'Auto' assigns
here is the link if you are lazy
http://www.tweakers.fr/download/MemSet35beta.exe
lol yea, as i said before voltages arent the issue and killing the hardware well..uno.. overvoltage in mind even, running kingston HyperX KHX9600D2K2 2.3-2.35V ranning at 1320+ what ram ddr2 dusnt like a few more volts. have some Ballistx 8500 and some other bits and pieces to play with..
Hi
Well I just puped 4 ballistix 1gig sticks 6400 with D9 in my Maximus so now its going in the trash can, just too much hazzle put back my P5K now everything is running smooth :), maximus is a nice mobo but just too much work.... Menty
yea have tryed the Ballistix but not much luck either, also the ballistix wont reach 1300, and for some reason if the ram cant get to 1300 the bios wont try anything lower (even with Auto) and it will just DETRAM hang, have run MF0907 & 1004, and RF0219, understandabily with the RF bios it gives better ram dividers that lower the ddr speed a lil, but still cant get the high fsb's. really got me stuck this one huh
I just updated to the 0907 bios on asus's page, and now my CPU temp in everest dropped from around 40 degrees to around 20 :o Anyone got any idea why, or is it just the 0907 bios thats flawed?
And, the 1003 bios in this thread is a beta version I guess?
Yes, I saw that recomendation :) but how is 505 bios with 4*1GB mem?
I played around with my memory timings and things have gotten much better...I manually set the timings to 4-4-4-12 (G.Skill rated specs) from their default settings of 5-5-5-15...also manually changed the tRC setting from 'Auto' to 35...I left the DRAM voltage at 'Auto' which according to PC Probe II is set at 1.98V
Do you have to reinstall Vista when going from MF0907 to RF0219 ?
Oh, and another thing. If I keep my OC Profile 1, I can use that if I wanna go back to MF0907 right?
so im testing some crucial ballistix pc-8500 right now and im quite disappointed :(
ill give it a bit more testing but things are not looking up
*edit*
im back to the mushkin memory. these crucial modules are junk, the mushkin hp-2 pc8500 are way better *tighter sub timings too*
i will be returning them tomorrow, as for now...
MORE OVERCLOCKS!!!!
also another thing ive noticed running between straps and playing while playing with new memory is when i set the fsb strap to 400, the l2 cache improved latency by .2ns, i dont know if bandwidth increased because i forgot to note that, but im pretty sure it did as well.
just my 2 cents
*edit*
durkadurka, what timings and volts would you recommend for the ballistix pc-8500 in a 2 1gb module configuration? ive got 2 gigs right in front of me now
zen,
so you dont like the crucial 8500's ?
damn too bad i was planning on grabbing a set of them for my upgrade. oh well..
i may go for those mushkins you got there, seeing as ive used mushkin many times before, and i never had a problem.
can you hook me up with a link to where you bought them ?
you should really set it to about 1.9 and re-check your volts again to see exactly how much it over volts. not only is this information good to know, but the word "AUTO" scares the shistuffingst out of me when it comes to asus + voltage. once you know how much it over volts, correct your voltage once again in bios with the adjusted value you just figured out to the factory spec. you could probably squeeze more mhz out of your ram by relaxing your timings on ram, going beyond factory spec on voltage to the ram modules, or a combination of both... in my experience i cant do this by having the voltage on auto.
@Sources:
damn that sucks! i cant believe your stick died seeing that your only pulling 912mhz and pushing 2.12 volts! i have the balistix and im pushing 2.26 volts @ 560MHz, mabye i should take a lesson from you ? :/
@Teko:
i had some nb/sb reading problems when i updated to the maximus rampage bios. a simple FULL uninstall and reinstall of everest fixed the problem. (make sure you backup your "Everest.ini" file before you do it if you have any custom settings...)
also, why not try the rampage bios ? everyone's been having amazing results...
