Where exactly is the revision located at? Down in the lower right corner it says "Rev A" only. Is it in the blank rectangle between the PCI slots? It looks like mine says "A1 something something Z something."

well that def sucks.. now im a bit disa[pointed to hear that.. i sent back one that would not post .. it was a AA1.. i got the AA0 in its place.. i guess i should have sent this one back also i have not had a chance to try this one since i got it back, so im hoping it even works now
That's where the Rev number is (3rd Slot) Pci:

I must agree with you there sam. What's the point in having the high-end equipment (with a high-end cost) and that is being overpowered by 'old' technology?!
For starters the production should be much much more reliable, no bad batches, no bad boards, no differences between revs or country they come from etc...
I will never put a DFI on my case again without a real test! I did that with my very first X38 (watercooling takes 2 day labor for prope and perfect installation), then rma came (Disk Read Errors and Bios Freeze), then came the second X38 that I didn't even mount send it right back to San Jose (just look at this soldering job and how the case arrived: http://i12.tinypic.com/7wgd9qb.jpg http://i14.tinypic.com/72105ec.jpg http://i11.tinypic.com/6q2v4gp.jpg ) ...
My third X38 Rev A01 is perfect and works flawless till this date.
But now with my X48 also mounted on watercooling I have to waist 1 more day to pull all out, 3 days till new one arrive and 2 more mounting everythingback and shipping money to rma back and then reassemble everything again.
All that if it's proven that I have a malfuction like Pinot (vcore upping = post shut down and Clear Cmos only way to get back and also frozen bios screen)... All that with STOCK (bios default loaded)...
But why do I still buying DFI since NF2?!?!?!?!
aside from the sticker, you can check your mobo revision on CPU-Z :)
I'm going to buy ATI 3870x2 DDR4 videocard, can anyone confirm that it will or will not work on DFI X38 board?
I've heard about problems with single 3870x2
my revizion is AA0
Thanks. I have mine running so the vid card is in the way and I couldn't see it.
CPU-z info is kinda messed up (manufacturer & board) but rev says "01."
I have a GDDR3 version of the HD3870X2 and I've had no problems with it that weren't fixed with drivers.
I have an HIS brand card, and my OS is Vista 32-bit.
but is the bernstein sound card always going to be the same revision as the mobo itself i would think they could be different being 2 different parts..
is it better to use the stock NB heatsink or a HR-05-IFX?
Finally got my x38 after 2 months, but i'm a newbie in terms of overclocking.
Using Q6600 + OCZ ReaperX.
Ram currently running 266/800 5-5-5-15.
Can't seem to OC the processor, Q6600 1.325VID
Tried 8X450, 8X400, 9X400. Following dfi club settings.
Use the HR, stock heatsink needs to be lapped first ;)
@nles: Try 333/800 strap ;)
I'm using TRUE 120.
Now running 8 X 400, Ram 400/800. Is it a good settings? Other ram settings also base on the OCZ ram guide at dfi club.
I tried 9 X 400, but after boot into windows it auto-restart.
what memory and NB voltage you using?
Hmm, using 2.1V memory volt, 1.504V NB Volt
Is this how you test your stability, CPU voltage seems quite high.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...ge/Prime95.jpg
Thanks for the input will try out.
Yeah you can probably step down with NB and CPU voltage. Just use 1,4V NB and 333/667 strap to test oput your FSB.
Ohh so just try step down bit by bit and try the stability is it? Cool.
Tried 9 X 400 / 8 X 450 at 333/667 or 333/800 strap, both also reboot when loading windows. It is cause by voltage?
read the thread get your gtl settings right
read this http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3129&p=1
n this http://www.edgeofstability.com/artic...fault_gtl.html
just (perhaps) a few silly questions about the hr-o5-ifx;
do you use that rubber bit to stick on the bottom?
it doesnt cover the whole NB but thats ok?
did you have to bend it for the TRUE?
lol no need for the rubber
its a waste of money just put a 120mm fan on stock cooler but if you buy one get the sli version
i moded mine a bit lol
as soon as i get my hands on another peice of copper i will make the ultimate nb cooler i will have the heatpipes touching the nb
Hey guys I am a little confused and I have a feeling that this is going to be a really dumb question but hey live and learn right =)
CPU VTT does what?
CPU VID Control is the core voltage?
The reason I ask is because when I had my Q6600 I only remember changing the CPU VID control, I dont remember changing CPU VTT and I am having to set both of these at the same value (1.26v) in order to get my X3110 stable at 4275MHz, out of all the boards I have ever owned this is the first one (in a long time) that has me confused as to what every setting does.
Dont be too hard on me, I am by no means Xtreme (yet)
Well I am running my X3110 at 4275 at 1.3v and everything seems stable thus far, I am still not 100% sure I have everything set the correct way in the bios but this seems like a good 24/7 o/c to me.
update my mb to new bios but if i set CPU VID to auto or under 1.3 volt the option to select CPU VID special add become gray and can't be selected. But if i set CPU VID to anything beyond 1.3 the CPU VID Special Add can be access again.
Anyone having this problem as well?
Still not quite understand about the GTL thingy, how to extract the bios code, so can let you guys take a look.
Prime for an hour but the vcore min and max different so much o.O
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...Prime95-21.jpg
Hey guys :D
been waiting some time for my account to get activated so I could post :P.
I'm putting a new rig together and have some questions :). I've already ordered this mainboard (lp x38-t2r) and want to pair it up with a Q9450. Will it work straight out of the box, or do I have to use an older 775 cpu to update the BIOS first? I guess I could throw on a cheap 2100 or something, might be fun to torture after the q9450 is up and running..
Next question, are there any problems with TRUE on that mainboard? I read some older posts here that the board warps due to the mass of the cooler, do I have to keep something in mind about that?
As for the ddr2 ram, first some Cellshocks gonna find their way in, looking to upgrade to 8000 4x2gb Gskill sticks later on. The whole system would go in a Cooler master cm 690, from what Ive gathered, everything will fit in nicely :yepp:
BTW this forum rocks :)
thanks,
Nick
PS can I hope for an OC at around 3.4-3.5 for 24/7? :D
thanks zsamz, you've been a big help to me latley
i just bought the standard one and kind of tilted it backwards so it fits with the TRUE ;)
i fitted that new cooler and a new TRUE (the lap job on my old one was crap) and moved the PSU to the top of my case so i could move my GFX card down a slot ;) havn't had a chance to play with it again since i was building my bro a pc :( (he doesnt know yet  )
@nles: Set "Vdroop control" to disable in bios, you won't be having any vdroop at all ;)
ive only really had 4ghz on it... it tried 4.5 and blew up my psu and cpu before lol.
I don't really understand alot of the bios options still as i came from a 965 + e6600 and it wasnt hard to OC that so if you want to see how high a 8500 will go i dont think im the man to see - unfortunatly -
My system goes upto 70C, Is this too high? Is this the volatge regulator (black heatsink?) as this gets really hot. This too high?
How do I control the speed of fan in NB and plugged insystem fan, 1st fan etc...? as listed in manual?
First post so be kind. Buy the way, Hi all. Been reading up since Jan., received board 26Feb. and finally opened static bag today...busy. One question now is this China/Taiwan thing everyone seems to keep bringing up. My box says China, sticker on back of board says China, printed Taiwan below ATX pwr connector on edge of board, sticker on slot says R.AA1, Berstein says R.AA0. Is this a good thing or bad. Thanks.
"System" in SmartGuardian is the voltage regulation, yes. Mine is at 60C running passive, anything below 80 would be ok I guess. But if you feel uncomfortable with the temp, just put a small fan onto the black heatsink ;)
Well with 15 120mm fans in a Lian Li 343 should have good airflow, lol. Must be mounting, Im I amble to remove without removing board?
what is Digital 6+1 PWM design ?
Bikers, (sorry if I missed this) what kind of cooling are you using? We were discussing earlier in this thread how some coolers (air or water) may bend the board, which makes the heatsink on the vregs not sit right anymore. If a backplate is used with the same cooler, the problem is solved.
Naw, I have good airflow. It's just very CPU dependant. My 65nm Quad@4Ghz drains about 125 to 130A current, and that is 24/7 due to it crunching for WCG.
Now, your little 45nm Dualcore drains 40-50A at most - see the difference? ;)
Same goes for G0 Dualies.
Slap a Kentsfield in there, OC it that high and you'll be seeing that temp as well.
I still think 60C is impressive though, any other mobo would have died long since (actually, 2 Abit IX38 did...)
you sure you done mean 'W' instead of 'A'?
No, I am talking about amperes here ;)
My Q6600 drains about 125*1.45V=181W running BOINC, even more running prime or Cinebench.
I happen to know that, because my Abit IX38 had quite accurate readings for current (it was 107A at 1,32V and 3,6Ghz, go figure).
180W is perfectly reasonable for a 4Ghz Kentsfield :)
Mine has a low vid too, that means high currents from the beginning. Not all mobos can handle it, but the DFI sure can.
Just rebuilt my system. Adding a 8800GTX in and i get post code FF on monitor and no image on monitor nothing, put old cars back in and still nothing. What is post code FF on mobo? It says Boot on DFI list, is this what should be diplayed?
Cheers for reply guys replaced thermal paste and it wasnt sitting that well so added some washers, but read my post above, so cant tell u results till this is sorted. Im on W/C setup
Forgot that guys, the mrs had unplugged teh dvi cable out of back of monitor, grrrrr.
Even with new thermal paste and screwed down more its still 47C idel. Not happy. Whats the best heatsink I can get in UK that will fit it?
What's the best bios atm ?
I want to push my E2180 to the limit before getting me an Q9450 :)
Maybe some hints before i start ?
There are only two BIOS files. The newer one corrects problems with NB voltage readings on some boards.
You can flash X48 BIOS to this board, but at your own risk of course.
so 1/11 bios is better than 3/14??
i just upgraded to 3/14
also i have a little q - if my card i n pci-e slot 1 it runs as x1
but in slot pci-e 4 it runs as x16, with same settings
why?
and most important fact - 3870x2 doesnt work correct with my dfi, i've got random lockups
Would this mainboard have any problems running a x3350? I remember reading some dfi statement that there isnt an "official" support of Xeon CPUs, but maybe I was daydreaming again :D. Also, would I need a BIOS update in order to get it running? Or would it (the mainboard) work straight out of the box with the x3350?
I cant find a q9450 in stock anywhere in here :X
no i mean middle slot. in middle pci-e slot 3870x2 works as x16, and in pci-e slot near cpu as x1. i tried to increase pci-e freq and some voltages, but it is still x1. it is proven by 3dmark scores - 12000 vs 16600 regarding slots.
i'll check how 88000gts works there
good news, thx
OK flashed 111 Bios and played a little...
got me some nice results, but a a point i can't go further.
3200 are ok at 1.23 ..maybe a bit higher for the long run.
3400 not even stable with 1.4v, tried even very high vtt (1,6) and vnb (1,56) voltages, but it did not help :(
After a few mins prime i got a bsod.
Checked for fsb wall -> 8x345 no problem at all... so what's next ?
Any hints or maybe some presets to test ?

Deactivated item? If it was out of stock it would just say out of stock wouldn't it? Was just about to buy one, too.
I got 3.8ghz on my Q6600 stable, but any more and the system temp gets too much, CPU fine as in under water and only needs 1.44V for 3.8ghz
Hello gents (I would say ladies and gents, but let's be realistic),
Just curious- how high of a memory clock has anyone achieved with 2x2gb ram on this board? Most of the benchmarking I've read in this thread seems to (understandably) be with 2x1gb sticks. I'm running 2x2gb gskill 1066 sticks on the X48 board, and I can run the memory at 1128mhz semi-stable; can't seem to push beyond that no matter which strap I use. Haven't gotten crazy with the ram volts though...
Thanks for any input
I'm using the corsair ram cooler to actively cool. Stated manufacturer's volts are 2.1 for the sticks; I think at 1128mhz I set ram at 2.15 volts (my board undervolts a bit). I think I've gone as high as 2.3 volts but was leery of going any higher as I'm not sure what the memory chips are in this RAM and how well they tolerate overvolting...
Hey guys, a buddy of mine is having C1 Error read out on the mobo. He can't get any video signal or get it to boot at all.
DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (PC2 6400) GeForce 8800GT 512MB PC Power & Cooling S610EPS EPS12V 610W PSU hec RA455A00 4U chassis
We can't figure out what the C1 error is... searching leads me to believe it's either video or RAM (which doesn't narrow it down much). DFI's site is having problems (under construction)
Thanks guys.
Hello everyone. I have a quick question. I'll be getting my UT X38 this afternoon, ordered it from NCIX, and I was wondering if anyone here is using an Areca 1210 controller?
Does it matter which slot you use and is there anything I have to enable in the BIOS in order to get the card recognized?
Thanks.....
C1 is a memory problem. This board seems very picky with ram, wont boot with my OCZ ALpha no matter what you do, 1 stick, up volts nothing, just C1's so got some G skill now.
TouGe - 9 X 400 is 3.6 not 3.8.
I've been running this mb throught the ringer, for some "forumwars", and when I get the c1, due to too much or too little of something, I just turn it off/ restart it. Goes through a couple of startups then boots sometimes. If it doesn't, reset the cmos, and reload one of the "saved" bios configs.
Sometimes it hangs on "52", then I have to reset/cmos.
Hey all. I just got a second 3870x2 that I installed on my DFI X38 mobo. With one card installed I got between 13300 and 13400 3DMarks. With the second card my score only went up by about 500 points.
Is there any way I can make sure both cards are working? I ran the Shader Mark test with both cards in and got around 1275 fps. Under "Details" in 3DM06 under "System" I saw this:
Unfortunately, I never noticed if it was on for one cards, but IIRC it was on for dual 2900XT's.Quote:

Are you oc'ing any at all? I have a Q6600 at 3.5GHz and both my X2 gpu's at 860/955 and I am getting 18K in 3DMark06.
whats your oc u need a high clock to feed the cards since the grafix benches are single threaded
No OC yet. I played around with the CPU @ 3 GHz, but a jump to 3.6 GHz was not stable. I haven't been able to get it stable with multiple setups copied from this thread. :(
set memory subtimings dont assume auto is ok
in fine delay set timings dont use auto use relaxed n work your way up
i found clunk's gtl setting way better board is more stable n more responsive but gets hotter
for 1.52 cpu vtt
gtl1:125
gtl2:120
gtl3: 95
heres another chart
The best way to know if they are working is to run GPU-Z and see if XFire is Enabled and then toggle between both cards on the sign...

What you mean?! As soon as you hit 1.30vcore the vid option will work.
As for C1E function combined with Special Add it won't work below a certain voltage (when undervolting)... It assumes your cpu already has the minimal amount of vcore to work.
If you unhappy why don't you just use the older bios that suited your needs?
