Bugger, we've got guests staying this weekend, which means HTPC has to be shutdown each night (it's very noisy because I still haven't replaced the HSF and performed intended quietening mods)... they're sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room where HTPC lives. They're young too, so they sleep forever :mad:

To make matters worse, Main was 97% through a 1167/494pts and got a 'File I/O' error. It restarted the WU from scratch... Argh!!! :upset:

@Sparky/Jimwah, sorry to hear of your woes too. Folding does seem to be a little taxing on our components...

@Jimwah, re 'Paddy', I figured as much but I wanted to be sure to be sure ;)

@Sparky, true true. Hopefully will get to some more modding over the Xmas break. On another note, I have to share my new pleasure... :slobber: Dell 24" LCD (2407FPW) coming my way soon for my birthday/Xmas pressie care of my darling wife (with a little additional monetary input from me, of course ;)) .

Well according to the stats you are still a "threat" (in a good way). What I think we should be both worried about is ShootStraight is set to smoke both of us in only a couple weeks here! This is a good thing for XS F@H team though so it is all good. But still....

Yep, noticed ShootStraight too, but there ain't nothin' I(we?) can do when he/she's averaging 3000+ppd!!!

Very nice GAM, I picked up a Dell 17" LCD for £40 a few weeks back & have ended up using it on my main rig it looks so nice (compared to my horrible iiyama 19"). I have my chance to finally sort this PSU out tomorrow (powers my x1900), but I've made up for it by hijacking the Gf's A64 Clawhammer to fold in its place for now - and with a bit of luck it'll stay on even after the PSU is sorted ;)

The modding skills of jimwah strike again - 580w Hiper PSU...dead! :p: hobbling along on a cheap 350w psu for now...not good.

Was that the PSU with the bad fan? How did you manage to kill it by changing a fan? :confused:

Yup the one with the bad fan. Honestly I have no idea why it died, I've done the same to 3 Antec's without a problem - when I pressed the button there was a flash of light & a puff of smoke, must've shorted something in there :shrug: Nevermind eh, I'll get another PCP&C next time if I can find one :)

Did you have to solder the fan to the PCB? If so that could have been the spot of error. I have always been too lazy to do that, so I've just cut the wires, spliced the new fan on, and taped 'em real good :D

Nah the fan was actually on a 2 pin header in there, with a sense cable on a seperate header... pulled the plug on both & then just poked the 3pin connector (from the new fan) through a gap in the casing & plugged it into 3-pin to 4-pin molex adapter. Should've been straight-forward enough even for me - if it had involved soldering I'd probably in hospital right now somehow :p:

Well your PPD isn't suffering yet so I guess that 350W is doing OK for the moment, but I would replace it soon ;)

damn my rig keeps on crashing when doing folding for over ~11 hrs; i think the voltage droops too much under load and it crashes and restarts. time for voltmods...
any other ideas?

Try dropping the overclock a little first, it aint stable if it dosnt fold 24/7:D But seriously f@h stress a cpu like no other program.

Did I get it straight... you shorted the sense cable of the fan to normal 4-pin molex (->12V)... :nono: cut that sense cable off next time...:toast:

Why don't you mod wcing to the psu also... no worries about fans...:D

:hehe: Can you imagine me setting up a water cooled PSU... I don't know what I shorted but I wish I'd had a video of when I switched the thing on *FLASH* :D I'll pop it open later & see what I burnt..

BTW: the fuse just blew up... replace it and connect that fan correctly :stick:... and try it... :sofa: :explode: :rofl:

Post mortem revealed nothing spectacular, considering the bolt of light that came out I'm quite disappointed really :p: I honestly think some of the casing must have shorted something out, 'cos the fan should've been fine. the fan I put in wasn't reconnected to PSU circuitry, it was hangin from an adapter of the 3pin to molex type, same as the 2x 120mm in the case already :shrug: It was an expensive experiment, but it made me smile regardless :D
