I get a half chub every time I see new posts in this thread.
Charles, do you take Kidneys as payment?
just the perfect case awesom work
but why not use a quad radiator?
Thanks for the comments Guys. :)
All will be revealed... in time. :)
Sorry for taking so long to respond, I’ve been utterly swamped this past week.
I must say that what we’ve settled on to secure the faceplate brackets has as Nils said, come only after a massive amount of research an effort. For that reason we’re going to keep that to ourselves for the time being.
I can tell you what didn’t work if that’s any consolation. :)
The challenge is a result of the thickness of the faceplate – it’s too thick to bend and not thick enough to tap threads into. That being said, we’re not interested in changing the thickness because we’re happy with how it looks. The other issue is the optical drive door mechanism and the space it requires.
One test involved welding threaded studs to the back and securing brackets with nuts. This concept failed because the heat of the flash weld altered the molecular structure of the aluminum, resulting in discolored areas on the anodized front face. The discolored area was around the weld stud and was only noticed in two locations on 3 faceplate samples and only visible at certain angles. Never the less, this was obviously unacceptable. The next concept involved two part metal epoxy. While the tensile strength was satisfactory, failures came as a result of static shear. It was amazing really, you could pry on the bracket with a pair of pliers for all your worth and never pull one off yet just the slight constant or “static” load of a pound or two over time caused a few of the test samples to fail… and by fail I mean fall off.
The ultimate solution involved a mounting system that successfully absorbed static load while providing satisfactory shear resistance and permitting space for the optical drive door mechanism.
I’m sorry I’m not able to fully answer your question. I try to be as forthright as I can in sharing information about the way I do things. A few things however, we feel the need to keep to ourselves, at least for the time being. I hope you can understand why.
No but I could use an extra arm - that way I wouldn't have to lean the light reflector card on my head when I take pics. ;)
The build was using hardware that Fried Chicken already had.
Cheers. :)
I can also add some news about MurderMod for the handful who is waiting for it: Today I uploaded it to a test area. There we will work on the last little details and create the little product-descriptions. We then have to finalize the photos, fill up the database with shipping-stuff to all kind of places AND do some final testing. The local work on it "seems" to be completed :) *dance*
great news
so can clients of murderbox customize "personlise" their box the way they like.Diffrent looks, diffrent hardware?describe what they want?kind of radiators, face plates,reservoir,...etc?
you should think about the official launching of the site, with i7 and x58 around the corner many ppl may want option for mods with no hardware
i think the tj07 side panels should be the first thing to do... maybe make a waterfall res inside the side panel :)
the front faceplate is too much for some of us that like our front bays.. the back plate is pointless because no one stares at the back of their pc :)
Those little things like back plates, are the ones that make murderbox unique.
Charles took care of every little detail inside and outside the case; even the hired wires are organized. Its like perfection, there is no way to explaint it.
Charles i still think, that you and Ediejo are the most organized and perfectionist case modders on the planet :yepp: .
keep rocking :)
Hey, that's an awesome answer and I totally respect that. It sounds a lot more complicated (of course I'll be kicking myself if it isn't) than the tools I have in the cellar. No welding experience at all so I make do with drilling, glue and tape.
Thanks again for the answer and your attention to the small guys is appreciated!
Hi Charles and Nils did you guy's find any replacement for the liquid/gel that you used to remove the Silverstone logo writing from the front of the case.If I remember correctly the last stuff could kill you so was just wondering did you find anything safer to use instead.:)
I would like to remove the writing etc to keep the front end clean and sharp looking, but no big deal if you have not found anything.I dont want to try any liquids that are going top mess up the finish of the case so thought I would ask you guy's first.
I do, for the first thing I see when I enter my room is... the back of my computer ;) And I am sure that, as it has already been stated, some who don't even see the back of their comp want it to match the rest of the case ;)
After all, MurderMod is not about 'only mod what you can see'!
i assume the site will be up tommarow?
Murderbox and murderMod are two different things my Man. Murderbox is us building the whole enchilada while murderMod is us providing the case mod or case mod parts and you building your rig. :)
We'll get to side panels... once we can reliably get blank side panels from Silverstone. :) The other problem is that not all side panels fit all TJ07s properly... something about the "U" design...
Thank you Brother, I'm honored. :)
It's my pleasure. Although I'm also a small guy... I'm just trying to make a living doing what I love. :)
Oily, I'm afraid we haven't yet. I'm reluctantly still using the toxic green stuff given to me. I bought a proper respirator mask and am using lots of ventilation when using it. If you're going to test products, use the underside.
There’s nothing I’d like more than to say “we’re live” but alas, I’m afraid we’re still sorting out details. The primary reason for delays is August holidays. In some cases, whole shops close while in others, a key person is off. In a lot of what we do, we rely on key people, I’ll give you an example; I only use one guy to inline (brush) finish the faceplates. I’ve come to this through experience and I’ll explain why. To those that don’t know, inline finishing is a process where you run a piece of aluminum through a machine that has a huge belt of sandpaper (along with other stuff) that produces that "brushed" look. This belt can last a few days before needing to be replaced and frequently will get used on different jobs. The problem is that if steel is run through the machine then little bits of steel get embedded into the belt (just like on your home sander). If you then run aluminum through, you’ve got a problem and like all really good problems, this one won’t be evident till the end of the production process. In this case, after you anodize. Any steel or ferrous particles embedded in the surface of aluminum will not anodize. What you end up with are tiny dust sized silver specks or streaks. Once you’ve got them, often times even running the parts through the inline finisher again won’t remove them. Ultimately, if you’ve got ferrous contamination, the parts are hooped.
The solution seams simple; don’t run aluminum you plan to anodize black through an inline finisher with a used belt. Apparently however, it’s not so simple. In fact, I can tell you for the most part that despite indicating not to do so, most Operators will do it anyway. Why, because they’re too lazy to change the belt. This is where my sole friend in the world of inline finishing comes in – he always uses a new belt and thus joy and happiness prevail - black, spotless, anodized faceplates are produced. This is why when he goes on holiday, no faceplates get made; despite being told that they have other guys that can run the job. “That’s ok” I say; “I’ll wait for Kevin”.
There are countless nearly identical scenarios.
Essentially, the delays we’re facing are a result of the volume of things needing to be done and the fact that it's summer. Not to mention setting up the whole eCommerce website, sorting the packaging and global shipping details. Once we’re up and running, we’ll be meticulously tracking inventory and ordering parts well enough in advance to hopefully keep supply in stock, or at the very least, with very short turnaround. Truth is this venture is a lot more work than we anticipated. That always seams to be the way though, iddnnit. It’s probably for the best that we always underestimate these things. If we knew in advance just how hard things are to do that may tip the scale to not bothering. We just want things to be right. I hate that it’s taking longer than anticipated but we’re working as hard as we can to launch and hopefully, it will all be worth it.
An observation - When I came up with the name “murderbox” I was pretty much intending to build machines for my local market. I knew it was an edgy name that some may consider negative or even offensive. Anyone that knows me knows I’m a reasonably passive guy who just likes to do his thang. I figured that I’d meet all my customers in person so they would hopefully see that the name “murderbox” was not intended negatively or as a correlation to some hyper-aggressive, alpha-male type dude. This to say that despite the fact that I really like the name, it does sometimes cause problems. It seams that some people just don’t get the "tongue in cheek" aspect of it. An example of this may be the German Customs Officers holding the 25KG package of murderMod parts intended for Europe, I sent to Nils over 2 weeks ago. If any of you have any “pull” with these dudes, please on behalf of me, tell them to “unclench” and let the package through!
Cheers All. :)
p.s. I know this is an assload of text to read and what’s worse, no pics. I thought about posting pics of something… anything that I thought would be entertaining and perhaps offset this gargantuan, assload lump of text. I was not able to come up with anything worthy so I created this black box. I want you to look at this box (not yet) and imagine the hottest, sexiest bikini clad girl you can… If you’re a girl then imagine it’s you in the bikini and all us dudes are worshiping you. :D
Ok, now.

That’s the stuff. :yepp: :hrhr: :banana::banana:
Yes, I need a day off. ;)
WOW, i love the pic .. yes you need a day off, definitely
As a future customer, I am VERY impressed with the amount of work you guys have put into this. This is PASSION!
Take a week off, you both certainly deserve it!
Daniel.
P.S. Nice bikini chick!
holy crap that picture of that women is so freaking hot! i can't believe you can post that kind of smut here :o on a different note, thanks for explaining the delays and whatnot
Sounds good Charles. Do you plan to have any package deals with MurderMod or anything special like that? If you need me to beta test anything just let me know, I'd be happy to help.
Charles,
Any chance you guys are going to do a dual CD/DVD drive front plate?
TIA
+1..
Where'd the bikini girl go?
brilliant brilliant work - ive always wanted the time and money to do something like this, but alas, twas never to be!
Thanks for the comments Guys. :)
I don't know about package deals, it's certainly something to consider. The plan is to launch with murderMod TJ07 parts and add new products as we go. The next murderMod offerings will likely be for Lian Li cases.
As for beta testing, we've got that covered for the time being but you're at the top of the list. :)
Not at this time. The murderMod TJ07 faceplate is specifically designed for one optical drive. The button/logo design wouldn't function with two drives without drastic alteration and that would seriously alter the aesthetic.
A possible future TJ07 offering may be based on the pure|murderbox "toaster" concept, soon to be executed. This would incorporate two vertical slot load drives with substantial case modification. We'll have to see how complicated that turns out to be.
Mine is still there... only now she's got 3 friends.
Thank you for your generous words. :)
Charles, do you get your powdercoating and milling done in house or do you use local shoppies?
