Foxconn Quantum Force Black Ops X48 OC Guide (56k Warning)

Question I just received a new set of G Skill 12800 so now I have 4 x 1gb sticks. My current sticks are D9GTS, but I tried to check to see what these new sticks where but I didnt see any numbers like before. I took out my old set and installed new set and I tried with stock setting and ran Memtest with no errors. After that I tried with my old setting which where 7-7-7-18 1T FSB 1800 strap 400 and ran Memtest but received many errors within seconds. So I am guessing the set are bad? And my next question is with 4 x 1gb sticks where should I start looking for a stable FSB and with what strap? 333/400? Thanks

Hi , I was wondering what could be the source of this problem :
At first I was an AMD fan , and for the first time tried to go with Intel. I hot a Q9550 , Asus Rampage Extreme , mushkin ddr3 1600 4gb 2x2 kit , and a sapphire 4870x2 . on my CPU a had a Zalman 9700LED , all that junk was powerd by OCZ 850W PSU .
Well after a week of trying to get my rig stable ( random frezzes , failure to boot , with BIOS putting some crazy volategs on NB ,CPU , RAM and SB ) my PC started to do a weird thing : start for couple of seconds with oll leds on and fans spinning , and shut down , and then start itself again , ok tried to reset comos , swith to BIOS chipset n2 , tested my 4870x2 and PSU on my AMD rig ( worked fine) - nothing hellped.
Replaced my RE and mushkin ram to Foxconn BlackOPS , g-skill ddr3 1600 2x2gb ( the one that is in the list of ram for blackops at this forum) , got ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 120mm 2-ball UFO Bearing / Transparent CPU Cooler , yesterday recieved all that stuff , and ... same problem , ony this time MB shows FF on post-led ( yeeey Foxnonn special thanks to that nice post-led) .
So I'm gessing my CPU is dead , is that a right guess ? (it's a C1 stepping SLAWQ ).And if that's the case , I hope it didn't do any harm to my MB , because I accidantly pushed the comos reset button when the power was on insted of just reset button X_X .

Sounds like a dead cpu indeed. And no a dead cpu can't really harm a motherboard. The other way around it's a problem but dead cpu won't kill your board.

Take the cpu and reseat it. Check for bent or broken pins and thermalpaste on the bottom of the cpu. Try a different psu(just use 24 pin and 8 pin) as well as clearing the cmos with the battery out.

Check for bent or broken pins - done , no pins borken or bent one either of MoBo

Check for thermalpaste on the bottom of the cpu - none

Try a different psu(just use 24 pin and 8 pin) I am using a 24 pin and 8 pin ( OCZ 850W =) ) , and so far i worked well on my second rig , that should require more W power than this one ( thanks to Phenom and two 4850 ) .
clearing the cmos with the battery out - done , didnt help.
Well I've sended my Q9550 back for replacement , maybe they will sand me back an E0 stepping :)

Has anyone achieved 2000MHz stable with black ops? I just cant reach it...

yep i remember doing lil bit over 2000mhz with cellshock (14400) sticks it took little over 2.2v to reach it.. the settings with this board are very tricky but once you get everything working its extremely stable.. you will just have to test a whole lot of settings until you find the stable ones :up:

I can bench at higher than 2000,but cant get it prime stable at 2000

I would like to show you guys what the North block will look like using the metal block (black) vs a copper one. I ran 1 loop for about 3 months using the following parts. Distilled water, Swiftech Hydrx coolant, Pentosin antifreeze (G001100) I am hopping Foxconn did not skimp with the new X58 board BloodRage North Block? The sad thing is I was given a NEW all Copper block for a replacement, but I was to lazy on switching them. :ROTF:

thx for posting that im getting my board monday and dont want to spend the extra 40 on a cover or wait for sniipe to mill me one, so if they are sending replacements ;)

Because I like simpicity, I'm hoping Saaya can find the time to follow-up on this post. I would much rather have a loop that can be easily removed and installed again. Being able to remove the stock 3n1 cooler, install a 3rd party NB waterblock and still use the heatpipes would be sweet.

Them pictures are SCARY, Im glad I changed my NB top for Delrin 3weeks after buying my Black Ops. The B ops NB set up under water is great very good temps for all in one solution, Much better than the ASUS equivalent.
Can anyone link me to the thread where a guy takes the NB,SB & Mosfets off & files the heat pipes down for a better contact with the chips, I cant find it anywhere but I definatley saw it on xtreme.

Ratty, I cannot find that post for the life of me. I thought I had read something similar regarding the BOps, but that series of posts eludes me. I've goolged the heck out of it and still no luck. I think that post had some great picks as well.

Yeah Bummer, I have spent a full night searching without any luck, I was thinking of performing the mod myself next time I clean my loop. I dont think it will be to hard. My temps are very good anyway but I should imagine a new application of tim will help temps even more

@Zanzabar, No the one we are after shows how to take the whole heat pipe and water block off the black ops and file down the heat pipes for a better contact on the chips , If you find it please let me know.

i had reached 4Ghz on my cpu and 2000 on my memory but could not get it stable no matter what. the main problem is, when the nb is cold it works fine but when the nb gets hot - could harldly leave finger on it even though i have a cooling fan on it- the board would become so unstable it was impossible to do anything. it seems the nb needs an etreme cooling solution

you can click on the link in my sig for my bios settings for 4Ghz cpu and 2000 memory and go from there, but do it soon as i have dropped my pc down to 3.6Ghz And 1800 memory and will be updating the bios settings to reflect this soon, and it is a lot more stable and i can leave my finger on the nb without getting it burned

Water will keep the NB under 40 c with a single loop and a 240 radiator

At the moment I run 24/7 with 1,49v on NB
and 4Ghz

Can I get higer shure, one step a the time

I had mine apart yesterday, had I seen this earlier I would have taken pics, I was looking into fabricating a custom NB block for air cooling as my TRUE120 negates the use of any of the NB cooling solutions in its current orientation so I stripped the 3 in 1 off my board to have a look see.

The NB pot is connected to the heatpipe plate assembly by four screws, when assembled this in turn is fixed to the board with the two "legs" you can see on the NB pot.

The mating surface on the bottom of the heatpipe assembly (the one that contacts the NB chip) has quite pronounced milling marks so I will disassemble it again next week and lap the surfaces (I'll lap the pot bottom and heatpipes as much as I can as well) at which time I'll take pics for you guys. I only decided to have a look late saturday afternoon and there were no shops open to secure the supplies required to do it there and then so the project is deferred until next week.

The TIM on the NB was well spread but the SB looked like the cooler wasnt making contact at all as the TIM "appeared" to still be in its original condition and not spread. I applied MX-2 to them both. I didn't do anything to the mosfets as I didn't know whether to apply MX-2 to the thermal pad or not and by the indentation in the pad it appeared to be making solid contact with the mosfets so I left well enough alone in this instance.

Undo eight screws and the 3 in 1 assembly is off the board and then a further four screws to release the pot from the heatpipe assembly, it really is quite easy.

Hi, I just got this board recently and I thought that foxconn had used some kind of special coating on that top to prevent galvanization(hope I spelled
that right).

Thanks Wotcher, Looking forward to seeing them pics. I was hoping to be able to file/lap the heat pipes without draining the fluid from the system, What do you think?

Nope. It's anodized, but that isn't going to stop mixed metal corrosion. Get the brass top from Petra's if you want to use the stock NB cooler for water. Otherwise, BOps is a very good board. It has the voltage stability and BIOS options to allow me to push my hardware to the limits of my cooling system. I just need to upgrade my water system to allow me to push along a bit further.
